If the looping theme music is bad, imagine how the part-timers working there cope with it lmao
Worked there for a few weeks a couple of years ago, can attest :(
pt for 4 days, gg wan die listen to the song
HAHAHAHAHHA…I worked there 3 months listening to that damn song
can confirm
muhakim don don don
don don donki is like a "cheaper" casino, once you get in there's no way out.
At least, you get goods in return, instead of losing it all
stolen comment
@@bangbangsussybaka12345 this comment itself has been stolen more times than anything in the world
this is why i put on headphones when shopping, the music drives me insane so i have my own music that keeps me focused
Then you just seem like the weird antisocial social reject weirdo walking around with his headphones on.
@@vrattawork who’s to say i’m not?
*Don Don Don donkiiiiiii.... Don Don Don donkiiiiiiiii*
@@vrattawork sounds like a win to me
Sounds like NTUC paid for this advertisement 😂
How about mothership keep promoting restaurants and activities for us to spend money ?
@Trung Nguyen nice one
Video: Don don donki and their ways to make you spend more
Me who bought nothing walking out of donki for the fourth time this month struggling to find a exit with no cashier
It sounds like a casino - can go in but can't come out easily.
Great comparison
@@TheReal_Popming Ikr
But in Singapore before we go in we lost 150 dollars
so true. i still prefer a structured layout. thats i don't shop at Don Don Donki
@@kennytan5055 I usually frequent the same supermarket as I’m in a hurry and I’ll go to the one where I’m familiar with how the things are placed so that I need not have to hunt for them.
I usually came out empty handed. Would enjoy the atmosphere but brain will calculate if it worths it.
Same
Same. Strangely, I am not at all tempted to buy what I wanted in the first place, I guess the music was irritating enough to drive me out before I could browse around longer! 😂. The colourful posters and ‘haphazard’ location of items are side irritation, which drives me out faster 😵💫
Nope. I just get in buy the 1 or 2 items that i want and get out. If there’s something interesting I just window shop that’s it. Otherwise my house will be like a junkyard. I wonder how many people actually have so little impulse control that they fall into the shop’s tactic
and then there’s me, so overwhelmed by all the signs that my brain assumes everything is in Japanese and I block them all out 😂
Same, Then my brain tunnel visions into what i actually wanna buy when I get there
@swdwe21 I wont call it that way tho. It feels constricting for me rather than feeling superior about it 😥
Don Don Donki is a discount stall???? Oh shit. Thank God it wasn't a premium retailer.
Yep, in Japan
Yes
definitely not here.
Definitely not DDD. The original DQ in Japan is basically Japanese Mustafa. Some stuffs are cheaper, but some are regular prices. But the main attraction is that you can find EVERYTHING.
@@c247478426 Accurate description
its not new, CostCo, ikea, casinos, and countless other companies use the same strategy and have been doing so for decades. Stay home measures kinda mitigate all these, but it still does work.
Actually no the queue makes me decide not to buy anything lol
As my older sister working as an intern (and myself formerly as a Part-Time Sales Associate) in Don Don Donki, I really approve this video, a video that will show all the evidence. Her working experience is just fine. But she seriously dislikes the time (and the one single rule that is arriving late or clocking very early means you’ll be working the minutes you are late, as don’t know why they reduce their pay when she’s late or clocked out early) That incident occured in 2 July 2024 where she has to work 10 to 15 minutes late on 3 July 2024! Her supervisor is a jerk (just like Madame de Bossé from Barbie and The Three Musketeers, like adding remarks “working late for the upcoming event”) for her and added 10 to 15 minutes *JUST BECAUSE SHE WAS LATE OR SHE CLOCKED OUT TOO EARLY!* This is an outrage to my older sister.
She’s not gonna work at Don Don Donki if she had choice to work if the more mistreatment she has.
Attack me, my older sis or both of us if ya want if y’all seeing this, Don Don Donki staff. Be scared and cope harder as I was one of the victims that my supervisor scolded me over a small matter.
Also, this is meant to be their experience working as an intern in Don Don Donki.
Therefore, I’m Xinying’s older sister. I copied and pasted it.

(“I did not type this. I am the one who is typing it.” - Kastying)
Edit: Thanks for the likes. I, Kastying aka Hatchi actually wrote this comment. It’s really not Xinying. Xinying told me first, then follow by her “so-like girlfriend” and best friend, Lapis.
Edit 2: Yea, you heard that. I know that I got caught using my phone during working hours. It sucked so much. Xinying doesn’t have these types, therefore she deserves better. Don Don Donki’s strict rules are sh*t asf.
Adding new reply:
I have to seperate this because of its length.
I forgot about s*xism in the Jem outlet from my sister’s workplace. There were 2 sales associates sometimes interacting each other, literally letting my older sister act up like a servant, doing all the things that she can while they chit chat and work together. I can’t believe how angry I am seeing this things all scattered in the place, even I am even a victim of s*xism from a few years ago!
Pretty much not fair for me and my sister (who, we are considered females and non-binary).

Edit: Forgot my signature.
Edit 2: Fixed some errors
Also another thing is you cannot use ur phone except for break.
Like WTF??? I agree sia
Who is this brave professor assuming we have a list of stuff to buy in Dondon Donki? The store is the list.
I went there a few weeks ago and the store made me angry for no particular reason. I left without buying anything
Username checks out
This has VOX vibes but I love it
omg thats what i was thinking too! the vox vibes are immaculate lol
I'm actually lovin the Vox vibes lol
I actually hate the signs. Just totally avoid areas with signs cluster lol
I only see the signs for the cute art lol if not yeah too many signs
A bunch of these opened up around KL in the last 2-3 years. They seem popular enough - the problem is the prices. They're astronomical. I can see the average person visiting once in a while but I don't think they'd make it their everyday grocery store. I guess one good point is they've expanded their halal items a lot, and they helpfully label the non-halal items - "contains pork", "contains alcohol", etc.
the more confusing i get, first thing i do is to find the exit door.
want to spend less in the store: remember how much money you have in the wallet. You might even spend less :P
the layout is simply frustrating, all that clutter makes me feel so overwhelmed that I won't even bother looking for things anymore😳 to each their own
Doesn't work on guys who usually go into a store, get wat they want n get out.
Amen brother.
Yeah I understand went straight to get 1 or 2 items I need and gtfo.
Doesnt work on people who despise clutter..
I will not shope in this DON DON Donkey
mothership rly be pirating the vox and washington post vibe rn
Honestly I rather they try and do that than watch a bunch of cringe Singaporean youtubers act out repressed sexual fantasy. This is the first video I actually want to watch that is from a singaporean based channel
Need more local content like this its actually amazinh
go watch any vox video
I was lost trying to find the spicy snack section and noticed I was running around circles.
I finally figured out what the OTHER song that they play all the time is about. You know, the one that goes "Jonetzu Jonetzu jonetz kakaku".. It turns out Jonetz is their house brand. I notice they recently added a few Malay lines to the song.. "Dan harganya berpatutan".
Entered the shop once. Narrow and crowded lanes with products shouting at you from left right and centre. Too much clutter, no structure, didn’t buy a single item. The music is…. I have no words to describe. Is it the same in Japan?
Still spending my pay at Don Don Donki tomorrow 😜
Overwhelming is the word.
Nowadays when I go Donki I just want to enjoy the atmosphere lol
Im glad I aint the only one 😂
Me too...
Just wanted to say interesting video. And actually investing time into creation content that dives beyond the surface. Thank you @Mothership team. Keep this up
They forgot that Japanese are smart in making their product attractive through eye catching packaging too.
Nah. For first time shoppers, yes. But for me that goes multiple times to Donki in Orchard, if you know the layout, come in with a firm plan what to buy, and where to look for your shit, you're good. Get in, grab need, get out. That works for me.
Same with my Japanese friend who was also used to buy at the Donki in Osaka. He said to me, never go into a Don Quijote without a plan, or else be in deep trouble.
The jingle don’t work on me, told my hubby to meet me at Daiso 😂🤦🏻♀️
I've seen their strategy, cuz of covid, they divert all shoppers in a 1 way 1 direction route where you pass through every shelf! then by the time you reach checkout, more snacks and drinks tempt you to buy them.
*DON DON DON...DON DOOOOONKI....*
CRAP and their CATCHY TUNE!
actually main reason is because made in Japan, the different variety is awesome! can't wait to travel to Japan again!
So basically the same as IKEA?
Exactly.. Everytime go in sure spend $200. Lucky for Grab now, able to vet through before purchase.
Don Don Donki Da Don Donki. Same bastard looping that eventually deterred me from going inside Daiso “London bridge is falling down falling down falling down falling down…” works both ways to lure & deter.
Main reason why i spend so much at DondonDonki: 1 Melon cost $47
But their melon taste really good from japan. Although isetan's one is more expensive.
Might be because in Japan fruits are for gifting to others
Basically it's the SCP IKEA
Come in, buy frozen simmered beef/hayashi beef/pork balls for emergency rice companion, stock up on frozen abura agetofu, see if there's any crazy discount on meat and food stuffs (mille crepe is nice and cheap), pay and get out.
TBH, going to Singapore DDD only make me miss the original Don Quijote in Japan.
Tips: just buy what u wrote on ur list and wear a headphone when u go to donki
The real underlying reason why this confusing layout works and why people spend alot more is because Donki sells "QUALITY" products and people will go there regardless.
Try this with the more household names. You'll not see anyone go there anymore.
Ok great now the song is stuck in my head
I like the analysis.. 🙂
DON DON DON DONKI IM IN PARADISE ITS A WONDERFUL WORLD FOR ME
Doesn’t this look like vox … even the thumbnail
The music there is pretty good
"Scattered across the island" ? More like scattered across downtown.
After went to a Donki Shop for the 1st time.... 1st thing comes to my mind when I see the products and prices .. "Don't go in... Stupid & expensive .. Can only bluff small kids and ladies" and since then, whenever i see a Donkey Shop, I will run far far away.
im here because i stepped into dondon donki at jewel on my way home.
it was both a bad and great idea to go inside.
I love that catchy Don Don Donki song~
I go there cos I miss Japan
You are weak if you spend more than you wanted to at Don Don Donki.
I am weak too.
Same as IKEA/daiso
And thank god for airpods Pro
Imagine this video is sponsored by.... that packet of caramel corn 3:56
I feel bad for the cashier working here…hearing DON DON DONKI DON DON DONKI everyday 🥲🥲
vox but ✨minus the quality ✨
I save money as I have 0 idea of what the products are. Clear deterrent for the uninformed customer 😁
Scandalous, but also I want don don donki in Sydney 😤
Please lah! DON DON DONKI sell so many things we can't afford to buy and eat everyday and not many things we need to buy... I mostly walk in walk out empty handed.
Don Quijote is actually a character in a Spanish Novel which is considered one of the greatest Spanish Novels of all-time and is one of the most translated books all over the world
Won't get lost if you see where the people exit hahaha
I have never spent any money in Don Don Donki lol I just window shop 🤷🏻♂️ it's all about self-control.
I think you have not seen Mustafa Center yet
Imma just go to the chocolate section, get brainwashed by the song and exit out with with more than I want to purchase, without the product I really want (because its out of stock)
Still 10/10 would go back.
The confusing layout is nothing compare to IKEA anyway, almost pissed my self because I can't find the exit. Damn nightmare.
Not to mention in IKEA there are toilets everywhere that you can’t use 😂
@@AwesomeRara who says you can’t use them?
This tactic doesn’t work to me… their price stopped me from buying!
To be frank, if I have something on my TO BUY list, I won't go Don Don Donki cause a lot of our time and effort will be wasted due to the cluttered store layout. Will only go there when I wanna look for something new or "treasure hunt". But I prefer Japan's Don Don Donki a lot more, I spent at least 3 hours there just exploring new stuff there.
Donki stuff are ridiculously overpriced. It wasn’t so expensive when they just opened in sg.
This is why i hardly ever shop there. Only when i crave the hamburg or ramen or hokkaido milk. The potato also getting shittier that i don't really get them anymore. Last time starting so big size now so tiny. Buy from other place better.
@@RonLarhz exactly. We should boycott donki. Their profit margin should be very high. Milking Singaporeans like crazy.
I’m still gonna buy from them
Daiso is very addictive to shoppers as well, and its much cheaper.
Why is it a discount store? Things are expensive leh
This is so deceptive and manipulating of Don Don Donki! How outrageous!
... I'm going back there this week
Been there a couple of times. Total spend: $0. Because I'm broke as fuck. Just in to enjoy the aircon
the similar marketing tactics like how mothership click bait viewers. 😏
Similar to trader joe’s in the US, treasure hunting concept
Cheapest bar you can ever think of when you are in town
i must be the weird one, this place is the only supermarket that makes me not want to buy things
I mean, if you have a list why would you go there to shop? You go there because you want to spend money.
Until now, i have not spend a single cent when i went to don don donki... guess their tricks didn't work on me...
Not me eating a snack i got from donki while watching this lmao
Errr now then u know ah? IKEA has been doing this long ago....zzz
It's like our old people park centre shops all squeezed together, all rojak items except neatly decorated & nothing fancy me. I'm bad.
Copium lol, I only go there for the glass bottle $9.5 Aoyama apple juice and I only buy that when I go there. The real reason people spend so much there is because their prices are high, three apple cost $13.50 how to not spend a lot?
This video format is like business insider haha
So this 4 mins video is about customers are idiot and easily brainwashed. Cool i like it.
I’m telling you it’s the music
i literally avoid it because of how messy it is
Repeat saying this causes me to block it out or rush through the store or leave that annoying store or person. I barely shop there 1-2 times in 2 years. Ironically my wife sings there song and doesn’t stray from the few items we came to buy. The only reason we buy 1-2 items not on our list. Well that’s simple we rarely go there.
"DISCOUNT" chain store are u sure about that 🤣 the stuff there is quite ex
That theory on having a catchy jingle encouraging greater expenditure by "distracting users" is just subjective deduction and bears no form of proper reasoning. Just let the Professor do the analysis
oh dear, go to Don in Haneda, 7th floor to go.
But i never leh, go a few times then fewl like nothing to buy already
Who brings list in don don donki? When i go there, its because i have budget for impulse buying
this video's vibes are so similar to vox! so cute
I already knew donquixote from Yakuza ps2. Really. Is it only me?
I just go there cause I like Japanese products LOL
haha, I managed to go into the store and come out without buying anything!! 🤣
this simple thing is that I DON’T HAVE DEEP POCKET! AND IM SUPERB THRIFTY!! 🤪
