-- NEW HERE? --
Hi! My name is Lashan, and I moved 16000km away from my home in Sydney Australia to try and make a life in my favourite city in the whole world - Montreal, Canada. Follow me on my journey making a life on the opposite side of the planet! I share my life as an expat trying to make a life here, guides on how to do it, travel videos, travel stories, lifestyle stuff and vlogs as well. I love travel, photography, video and just creating stuff in general, so come join me as I try to smash it all together.
Wow, this is really frustrating. It's sad to see when people genuinely want to stay in Canada and have a happy life here, but bureaucracy gets in the way. If I were you I'd expand your search to here in Toronto. There are a lot of architecture and construction firms in the city.
Maybe try applying to other universities, or colleges. It's probably too late to start in the winter term (Jan-Apr) but you could start studying somewhere in the summer term (May - Aug). You might have to leave the country for a few months, and then re-enter as a student in the summer term. Then, while you're a part-time or full-time student you could focus on finding a job.
As a side note, I was in a similar situation as you while I was doing my exchange in Barcelona. My exchange was 5 months long, but due to my visa issue I could only stay for 3 months and they were going to kick me back to Canada. I then spoke with the embassy, and went to the Spanish customs / Police station and they extended my visa so that I could finish my exchange. I just had to fill out a lot of paperwork explaining how I'm a student and why my case is special/unusual. I'm not sure if this information helps... But maybe if you call the Australian Embassy here in Canada, or speak with customs they can help you. I successfully applied for an extension to my Spanish Visa, maybe you can apply for an extension to your visa here in Canada as well?
I'm a business student so if you want help with the job search let me know! (Shameless plug lol) There's also a video on my channel called How to Get Your Dream Job or something like that. It may help with the job search??
If you have any questions feel free to message me! Rooting for you!
apply for the express entry, is the fastest way
That's a tough situation... I really hope you can find a way to stay! Maybe apply for jobs outside Montreal until you get permanent res? Or apply for stuff outside your line of work for the time being? Good luck!
Yeah I'm trying everything I can atm, I hope so!!
Good luck bud, I plan on doing a working holiday visa in Canada after I graduate and it's been very interesting seeing your how journey has gone. Wish you the best!
Thank you Lee!
Hi!! V good to have ur vid but sad to know ur in this situation. I wish I could help.. I hope many people will come up for you. Good luck!
Thank you!
I am rooting for you!
Can you apply for Express Entry and get a PR straight away? Seems like you're eligible for it.
0:33 Hey look, its Darren from Yes theory
It’s so sad he’s getting kicked out of Canada 🇨🇦, I thought Canada was more welcoming. He wanted to start a nice life in Canada only to be shown the door.
Wishing you the best!
Good luck mate!
Thanks Lou!
Good luck Lashan :(
Please do an update video!! Thinking of starting a life in Canada aswell starting with the two year working visa. It would be so upsetting to really feel at home at a place to only be kicked out :(
I'm sorry for the wait! Finally made one ruclips.net/video/AHof-bztT1A/видео.html
Wishing you all the best lashan.
Thank you! 😊
Have you expanded your search to the whole of Canada school and Job wise. Because even if you need to leave Québec and Montréal for some amount of time. No matter where you go in Canada, you are adding to and biding your time until you can hit that arbitrary number government's care about, then you can apply for Canadian citizenship and or permanent residency and return to Québec worry free.
For schools I think it's too late for the January-May Winter semester, but I can still apply for the summer semester so as a backup backup I think i'll do that. That's the goal! Once I can get my hands on that permanent residency card I can relax a little
Express entry is your best bet. As someone who's been through a journey similar to yours (from India to Ireland). Believe it or not, having some stability is the best way to go. The Canadian PR atleast prevents you from getting into situations like these. Give it a shot.
Seeing how many people have suggested this I think I'll have to at least try it, thank you 😊
We hope you stay in Montreal.. you can bring a lot ... we need more ppl who likes the city, who wants to work and who has make the effort to speak french
I work for Canada Post so I would say apply to Canada Post but you just missed the best chance at getting hired before Christmas rush...
Really hope things work out for you.
Can you tell me what is wrong with Australia? That surprised me a bit. Good luck.
Hey, Lan why not apply for express entry system. Look you have good English, you know French, you have some Canadian experience so please why don't you apply and get permanent residency and you close the Immigration chapter for good And then you start applying for the jobs you really want
This
Lashan, I hope you have started this process!!
I don't think he can do this. He may not have enough points to do so. Typically you'd need a bachelors degree and 3 years of work experience to stand a chance.
Sorry about what happened to you, but this kind of situation is the reality for many Canadians. Maybe it’s not so bad for older people, but those of us who recently graduated are having the same difficulties as you. Going back for more education doesn’t help, it only increases your student debt......
Lashan what did you study? For possible job employment
It’s been 2 month now since this video. How are you? Where are you?
This is so similar to what I'm currently going through but in your case, you're moving/moved to London while I'm currently in the US and planning to escape to Montreal...and after watching your videos, I'm really starting to ponder and re-assess my decision.
Montreal is just an amazing city. it's the Berlin of North America. I am originally from Toronto.would never go back..I learnt french before moving here.
Montreal is a bilingual city you must learn french, period.
Hey , how are you doing? Have you gone through this situation? Don’t lose heart, please.
This is too much. I mean this isn't your fault really they didn't had the 2019 budget.
I'm really sorry and I hope some miracle happens that you can stay in Canada
Yeah it was just a ton of bad luck honestly :( Thank you, I'm trying everything I can 🙌🏽
I'm not sure how I ended up on this video but hey did everything work out?
I finally posted an update if you're still curious ruclips.net/video/AHof-bztT1A/видео.html
Have you extended the job search to Laval? Would you be willing to work two low income service jobs?
Unfortunately service jobs won't be able to secure me a closed work permit :/
Hello,
Can I just say I completely empathize with a lot of your videos. I am from the UK and after being here 6 months I have never felt truly stable from complete highs to dehumanizing moments to working 60hrs weeks in a job I can just supports myself in. I just want to feel welcome. After applying for jobs in my field to getting no call backs then going to interviews starting on a disadvantage due to my broken french. Then language racism from the separatists I feel this is only a small part of the city but it's enough to make my life problematic. There is a way for you to be nominated for permanent residence in Quebec through the nominee provincial program its not the express entry program its by the province. The application cost $2000 dollars. Please see if you meet the guidelines but honestly, many of my friends on visas that I made have left montreal now because they felt not accepted. I am sorry you sound like you truly love it here.
Hi Sir, hope you are doing well, i have a question for you. Did you complete your higher education from canada or somewhere else?
In Australia
Hey lashan, what a bad new.
If you drop by Paris during your world tour.
Come and say hi haha
hahahaha if it comes to that then sure 😅
PLEASE UPDATE US!
Sorry for the wait! Finally posted an update ruclips.net/video/AHof-bztT1A/видео.html
Dude try Express Entry, all you need is a English test and some paperworks. Plus it won't take long to get PR. Look it up.
Find any and all Australians in Montreal on LinkedIn. Talk to them, there definitely is a way. What about language courses?
Why don’t you apply for permanent residency? Especially with the field you’re in, it seems like you’d get a lot of the points for the Quebec system
Wasn't eligible because I didn't have 1 year of _continuous_ work experience in my field
I hope things work out for you...
Life does that to ppl who work n try hard
C’est la vie
Have you tried finding a ”survival jobs”, such as Starbucks, Canada Post, Second Cup...?
I have my current job until mid January till the end of my contract, and unfortunately a survival job like that won't be able to get me the closed work permit I need
3 months, what happened?
Finally posted an update, sorry for the wait

Get a real job. It’s a golden time in your 20s to get a chance to switch different careers. After this, you are toasted. I work for in international company in UK and got an internal transfer to Montreal this year. Don’t waste your life. 20s will pass you by like a blink. You already wasted 8 months job searching. Think about your competition in the 20s. Get work experience in any countries first if civil engineering is your thing.
Study
Maybe you should further your education more
Hey yo Im from Montreal too, come hide yo ass in my basement 😆
I would marry u but I live in America
hmmm...I have a friend that has a company, he might be able to help you. If not, im so down to marry you! I mean I watch your videos like a religion over and over again. I can also ask my aunt who knows someone that does have a hand in the citizenship here. And, give us an update!
That good
Hi Dae, i need your help...
Are u a civil engineer??

Move to Europe.
Like it's any easier. You've got to be kidding me.
