this video was 100 times more helpful than literally calling the UKVI centre 🙃 thanks for going into so much detail! question: how soon were you able to book your biometrics appointment in ottawa? was there a lot of availability or was it weeks before you could go in? also, still waiting on part 2 of this video 👀
😂 So glad to hear that! I got my appointment 4 days in advance, not sure how it is with covid but I imagine you might need to book more in advance. Part 2 is in the works!
Thank you for this informative video. I have a question: Can I submit an online application form for a Youth Mobility Visa while I am in the UK, or do I need to be outside the UK to do so? I am okay with submitting my biometrics in Canada, which is my home country. Currently, I am in the UK on a different visa, so I want to know if I can submit the online application form from the UK and complete the process in Canada. Or do I need to be outside Canada even to submit the online form?
Hi! You need to be outside the UK to apply for this, which I think means for the biometrics appointment not the online application, but you could apply from France or somewhere in Europe, you just need proof that you're legally allowed to be there (tourist visa is fine, just have scans/show the stamp in your passport as proof).
Oh my, thank god I stumbled across this video... THANK YOU. I was planning on travelling Europe for 3 months prior settling in the UK - I had no idea there was such a narrow window to activate. Could I still do this, activating the visa after that window (despite 'wasting' three months of my visa)? Or do I need to be in the UK within a month? Super helpful video, thank you🙌
Haha you're welcome! That's what I hoped this video would help with, all the little intricacies :) If you don't activate the visa within the window you would have to restart the application and have to repay the application fees - what I would do is either a) hop into the UK within the window to activate during your first month in Europe and continue travelling, or b) to maximise your time, do your 3 month trip, but finish your trip with 3+ weeks in France or somewhere else with a visa processing centre, apply from there and then move to the UK once approved
As a fellow Australian, I had no idea you were Australian, your accent has turned totally Canadian! Im trying to get a youth mobility scheme in UK after living in Germany for a year, and I’m hoping to pick up an apprenticeship whilst I am there, but idk if it’s legal haha. Anyways, I’m from Newcastle (1.5 hours from Sydney)
I tried for a while to hold onto my Aussie accent but now I've just given up and let it go with the flow 😅 With the apprenticeship I would figure it out once you get here. No way! I actually grew up in Newcastle
Hey Lashan, Thank you for thé vidéo! I want know if i apply online today, i need to wait 6 months before i travail to UK or i can go before 6 month if my visa is ready ? Thank u 😊
Hey there, you're welcome :) You don't need to wait 6 months, mine got approved in 3 weeks - it's just the earliest you _can_ apply is 6 months in advance, you can go a lot earlier if you want!
It’s really subjective indeed the places we like. I am from Europe, I love that part of the world, mostly. I visited Australia, Sydney & Melbourne, thought it was nice, the sceneries and weather mainly but found some of the people edgy, the remoteness is unnerving too. I moved to Canada a year ago to live and work here, I do not think it’s above any of these places in any way, and it feels isolated and dreary at times, though it’s continental location is a plus. Make a video to compare the places where you lived, pros and cons, from your point of view.
If the goal is to secure a position before entry. Would you suggest getting a job offer prior to beginning the process? (it seems like the application is relatively quick)
Depends on what industry you're in but applying for jobs in the UK while abroad is unlikely to go anywhere, the application may be quick but I didn't even get a single callback from a recruiter until I got a UK phone number
Wait they keep your passport for up to 3 weeks? And you only have 30 days to activate the visa once you're approved? This is not mentioned on the visa application website at all!
Hi Lashan, I was wondering if I could go to the UK for the 6 month free visa and during the first few week is it possible to apply for my youth mobility visa? like do I have to apply for it where I'm at or can I do it during my stay in UK. I know you said in your video that your not a UK foreign immigration officer that knows everything, but I was wondering if you knew someone who had done something similar to what I'm asking of you. hopefully you can respond to this please and thank you. wish you all the best btw and love the videos and info you've given on your platform.
Thank you, really appreciate it 😁 I think you need to apply from outside the UK for this visa, so if you moved to the UK on that 6 month tourist visa, then dipped over to Paris for a few weeks to apply for the visa and then come back that would work
Funny video mate. So much of the comments I related to having to fight with immigration in Thailand so it was funny to hear it being said about my home country
How long did it take you from applying for your visa to the time you entered the UK? I read that you should apply 6 months in advance however, I am traveling to the states from Canada next month and will need my passport. I am planning on moving in January.
It takes 3 weeks from submitting your biometrics (along with your passport) to get approved and your entry visa in your passport, which is a month long visa to enter and get your real 2 year visa. You can pay extra to keep your passport during the process
@@LashanR So i accidentally have a duplicate application. It has not been paid for at all and not properly submitted , do you suggest calling up to get this withdrawn ?
Thank you! The age limit has been increased to 35 for New Zealanders (now) and Australians (from January 2024), but if you aren't from those countries the other options are traditional routes - work sponsorship, student visa, marriage etc
Hey lashan , im an aussie with not slot of money , would love to do a working holiday next year and plan to save very soon , how much money do you recommend having , 10-15k ?
Hey Chris! So I came in with about $6k and it took me about 6 weeks to find my first job, savings went down to almost zero before they bounced up again. That was 3 years ago, London is even more expensive now so I would say at the bare minimum $8k to be safe, anything more than that depends on how much of a buffer you want to give yourself, how comfortable you want to be, whether you want to go travelling immediately etc
@@LashanR thanks for getting back to me appreciate that , yeah trying to figure out everying like that immigration surcharge flights and all that jazz. Might be hard but sounds like fun and different ! 🙂
I wanted to work on a farm in seasonal work they require a certificate of sponsorship. I don't actullay know how to get that one. Any help you would provide it's going to be helpful. Thank you 😊
Just a question, not sure if you know the answer! I want to apply for this visa soon, but I want to travel in 4/5 months instead of 6 (the site says you can't travel until 6 month after your application). Can I travel to other countries in Europe before I touchdown in the UK to work? Or do I have to stay in my home country until the 6 months is up and then travel?
I spent 3 weeks in Paris right before moving to London (also travelled to Guatemala and Mexico 3 months before) so I don't think this rule exists 😅 The only real restriction is not being able to travel while your biometrics gets processed if you pay for the regular option, as they have your passport.
They asked a question about relatives in the UK I literally have 8 cousins/aunts/uncles do I really have to put their names? I noticed those options weren’t even in the drop down list
hi lashan. is it multiple-entry visa (i mean tier 5)?! for example, i have to stay there six month straight, or i can leave uk 1-2 days on weekends if i want to
Hello! Do you remember how long it took for your passport to be sent back to you after receiving the email about the decision on your visa? :) many thanks!
hi, im currently looking into this visa as well, they say on the official website it can take up to 3 weeks or a little longer after your submitted the application
wont you get an email saying your passport has been dispatched to you whether you get a visa or not? or do they tell you right away that’s it’s been approved or not?
When I had the issue with my bank statement the visa office emailed me about it directly, then I fixed that and then I got my email saying the passport was dispatched. Considering there's not that much to this visa, unless if you just didn't have enough funds to meet the requirements the email should basically mean it's approved
Heya. Yesterday i just get to know that in dis list india is IN now . I wanted to know that the balance we needs to show in our account is okay if we shows in our parents account?
Many people have been rejected for that. The account has to be in your name and the required funds need to have been there for at least the last 2 months
Where's that follow up video I really need it.. I literally applied for my Tier 5 visa today from Montreal too and my biometrics appointment is in a couple of days in Ottawa. Wish me luck

I remember the immigration section of the gov.uk website being utterly confusing in 2016. Sounds like they've made improvements!
Maybe that's why it's so good now 😂
3p days to enter the country????? Far out i was hoping atleast 3 months hahahaj
