You have a special place in my heart, Lana. Anyone who can take old school Cuban favorites, like Ropa Vieja, and give them the nouveau tweak of current technology with the latest cooking methods...well...you have my heart and my respect! I am a Gringa who grew up in south Florida and in Tampa Bay. Delicious Cuban food was everywhere. It is a favorite part of my family's culinary history. We eat traditional Southern, Cuban, Puerto Rican, Jamaican and Jewish foods in my house. We are the classic Floribbean family! Thank you for the inspiration your videos provide! I see Ropa Vieja coming soon to my Instant Pot now!
Sorry it took so long to reply. Usually I get back within a day, but for some reason I wasn't getting email notifications of comments. Oh my gosh I can;t believe I didn't see your comment earlier! Thank you so much! I am a Jewban and my mom is 100% Gringa. I don;t know if you have seen my blog but I also have my family's Jewish recipes for Instant Pot. I am currently editing my video for my gradnma's Pot Roast int he Instant Pot as we speak. It's so nice so nice to talk with a fellow Floridian. We are waiting until my son graduates high school and then we are going to work on heading back to Florida. We lived in Sarasota for a few years, so that';s where I would go back to. I miss Siesta Key!
Yay I am so glad! I wish when I was pregnant I craved yummy food like Ropa Vieja. Instead I just wanted fried clams and McDonalds ice cream cones, lol.
Omg 🤤🤤🤤 5 am here in Miami and I'm just dying for Publix to open so I could get a flank steak😁😁 I'm from PR but as soon as I tried Ropa Vieja it became my favorite cuban food. Thanks for the video👌
I LOOOOVE Ropa vieja!!! I make it all the time in the slow cooker but I think this is what I'm going to Make when I break in my new duo evil. I've never been a instant pot fan But a RV In only 45 minutes maybe its saving grace? I also have a huge Chuck roast that I need to get rid of S well so I definitely will be introducing the to tomorrow. Unfortunately I was raised by a Cuban mother who Wanted to be a gringa And although She Is great in the kitchen She only cooks snooty Gringo food. Thank God for Cuban recipes On RUclips! Lol
Haha my mom IS a Gringa so she only cooked American and or Jewish food. My father and my abuela were the Cuban cooks. So glad I could help out and I really hope you enjoy the ropa vieja!
Thank you ! Love the way break things down in detail. Especially about the tomato’s burn notice . Very easy recipe. Look forward to seeing your other recipes. Keep up the good work .
I love it! Reminds me of being back home in Miami. The only thing is I add green olives (por q that’s how I grew up eating it). I’ve altered it to make this recipe in the crockpot. There’s just something about slow cooking this meal and letting the scent draw you in all day. It makes that first plate true ecstasy.
Iam new to pressure cooking so it's a learning curve. I tried your recipe tonight - it was simply fabulous. I listen to all the tips you spoke of - there's so much your basic manual doesn't cover. Thankyou for the knowledge that you and others pass on to newbies as ourselves. Looking forward to more great recipes. I started out almost panicking at the thought of using my machine -which is a Pampered Chef but I am gradually getting my confidence using my machine. Thank you!
I love your style! So straightforward and also full of details! Great work! Please keep updating more Cuban recipes. I wanted to cook for my Cuban husband
Thank you so much! I have a lot more recipes on my blog. However, I will be creating more videos. I just started teaching high school math to help out during the pandemic and it really cut my time.
Hello, can you explain more about how to use the slow cook function please? I want to know if is less time than your regular slow cooker for example if I have a pot roast and I make it in 4-6 hrs using a regular crockpot do I cook the pot roast the same time with the omni plus?
Hi. The show cooker is more like putting an oven on low. However a crock pot heated food at 200, so you can use the same time in the Omni of you use the same temperature range.
@@campanitabonita69 I would do 6 hours at 200 on slow cook in the Omni and it should be good. A crock pot keeps it at a steady temperature for a long period of time. The Omni will do the same thing. Make sure you check it with a thermometer of course.
I've tried to meal prep ropa vieja for the week several times and always got the burn warning and it never tasted right. Being originally from Miami I had to do Cuban food right. Only recently did it occur to me to look on RUclips for how to do it right. I saw your thumbnail and said "She looks like she knows what she's talking about." I was not disappointed. Using your video I modified my recipe so that it came out deliciously the first try without a burn notice. Thanks, Lana.
I'm so sorry it took me so long to respond. Usually I get back within a day, but my internet had been out for 2 weeks due to the tropical storm. Oh wow, I cant even tell you how much this means to me that I could be of help. I'm so glad you found my channel and you like my recipe. I wish I was organized enough to meal prep. It's something I have always wanted to do.
It looks so good! Can I use tri tip?if so how long would it have to stay in the Instant pot and do I need to double any of the ingredients or leave that as is???and can you do a video using tri tip???if you don’t mind
Sorry it took so long for me to get back to you, my internet was out for 2 weeks due to the tropical storm. You can absolutely use tri tip and I would follow the directions exactly the same. Happy cooking and stay safe!
Lana, I’m going to make this for my family this weekend. I have the DUO NOVA 10qt. How many lbs of flank steak can I cook in this instapot? I cooked your Piccadilly recipe for 40 using your recipe and following your video. Huge success! Thank you so much.
Oh boy, I'm so glad you liked it. As long as they are steaks and not ticket than usual, you can put in as many as will fit without over crowding and still have room for liquid. Maybe 3 or 4 large steaks?
Thanks for your video, I was afraid to use the instant pot for this but I did it your way and omg it turned out so great I made it two days in a row to be able to give some to my neighbor.
I don't have an instant pot, but another digital cooker. Can it work on there ? I nedd an instant pot when it is dirt cheap sale maybe next yr, but why when I have a digital pressure cooker it has rice, etc settings all I need, saute, etc ? Oh ok glad just heard you say other pot while writting this. I have tp buy other stuff that could not b4. Do I need wood square ended spoon or can my plastic one I use not work well enough? Ugh now gotta add that to my list. Lol you mean white cooking wine different then wine. I just got confused. Lol good tips. No wonder got burn notice. Lol I have the same little pimento jars. I use all good goya & good brand ingredients. Lol tpu did not scrape the bowl at the end. Lol
Hi. You absolutely can use another electrical pressure cooker. I started out with Instant Pot and so that's just what I use, but I also have a Mealthy, which I love, and there are other's that are just as good. You don't need a wooden spoon. You can use a silicon or cooking grade plastic spoon just something that won't melt and can be used in a hot pan.
A good trick is to not rinse your rice. The more you rinse the starch off, the stickier it gets. But honestly, I don;t make white rice in the IP. I make it in my rice cooker.
By the way, I'm a "real Cuban" who wants to learn how to cook "Ropa Vieja". Note that I consider "real Cuban" as a person born in Cuba and came to the US at least after he or she spent from 6 to 28 years living in Cuba. So with that out of the way, I would like to know what's the difference between flank steak and skirt steak since I heard someone using "skirt steak" to cook "Ropa Vieja". Besides, I hope I don't offend anyone with my remarks about "real Cuban", for I came in 1980 to the US at a "tender age" of 27 going to 28; thus, I lived in Cuba until I was 27.
I don't take offense. How you want to label yourself is completely up to you. For me I don't think someone has to be born in Cuban to be a "REAL" Cuban at all. Just like pasta doesn't have to be made in Italy for it to be REAL pasta. Or a child who is adopted is no more a real child to their parent just because they weren't born to them. I consider myself Cuban-American. That's how I label myself. And because my family had to leave, it is important to me to continue those traditions and culture....maybe even more so since I WASN'T born in Cuba. Either way, I hope you like this "Fake" Cuban's recipe that came from her "Real" Cuban family. :)
@LanaUnderPressure hamburger is high at almost $6 a lb but I can feed 4 people with left overs on 1 lb. But Flank steak 1 lb is about $13 and I made 4 oz steaks so 1 lb feeds only 4 but the c steaks shrunk in grilling my family needed 2 steaks to feel as satisfied. So that's $26 per meal for 4 people versus $6 per meal and even if I do 2 lbs of ground beef that's still only $12 per meal. I look at the price per meal cost. I was at Costco yesterday and looked at the crab legs. $78 lb. I can eat 1 lb by myself. I have many times but noway that's going to be a meal at my house anymore. We use to be able to buy them once or twice a year but nit anymore.

Still my favorite recipe after all these years 😌
Thank you!!! Pregnancy craving satisfied 😍🥰 came out perfect.

Me too. One of my favorites!

Yes you can!
Do you have a recipe list anywhere?
I sure do. I have a blog of recipes, www.lanaunderpressure.com
Can I put olives in the instant pot too
Sure!
Keep doing cuban/Puertorrican recipes I was just gifted the instant pot and have no idea what to cook lol
Absolutely! Cuban and PR food is the best (ok I'm biased but still, it's true, lol). I have a lot more recipes on my blog than on RUclips. :)
Can’t wait to make it 💕
When should I add the olives?
Hi. If you want to add Olives, you can either add them with the Pimentos or if you like them to have more texture, just stir them in at the end.

Can you make a insta pot Cuban chicken 🍗 legs or thigh

Can you list the ingredients please with measurements

I seem to remember my Yaya adding red wine vinegar to her ropa vieja. Have you ever used vinegar in your recipe?
I've seen vinegar added. Usually instead of white wine. Definitely try adding a tsp of it and it see.
I did master the picadillo watching different videos I kinda got the idea of what ingredients my Cuban 🇨🇺 restaurant use 😂
I love picadillo in the ip. I have a recipe on my blog.
No olives or capers??? confused

Flank steak is $12.98 a pound at Sam's club. So this is not a meal that is price friendly.
I can cook 2 lbs Flan steak this way and it can feed 8 people... so that seems very budget friendly.

Goya 👎
I agree. But I made this before the Goya scandle. Now I use my homemade seasoning.
