When I was first learning how to drive 21 years ago, my dad took me to an empty parking lot with his 98 Toyota Tacoma 2WD manual and said I was not allowed to drive anything else until I could drive it. I was so annoyed by that and thought "why would I want to drive a manual?" Well fast forward a year and bit and my automatic 85 Pontiac Sunbird died on me. My brother just so happened to be selling his manual 95 Honda Civic EX Coupe that was infinitely nicer. My parents asked me if I wanted it and I said I yes, even though it was manual. They bought it off him and let me drive it. I LOVED driving it. It was so different from the truck and was just way more fun. I was so glad I was made to learn to drive a manual. I daily a CVT now (2016 Honda HR-V) for a few different reasons but I do miss driving a manual more regularly. The CVT is very nice for traffic though. I actually drove the old Taco again the other day (yes, my parents still have it) to go fill up a gas can for the lawn mower and I quite enjoyed it. Now, I just need to dig my B16 swapped Civic Hatch out its hole, do a bit of wrenching, and get to enjoying it again.
3:00 Stumbling forwards (or backwards) with just the starter motor actually is a trick to get off a dangerous (railroad) crossing if the motor stalls and refuses to start again. Which isn't ideal and hard on the hardware, but if you have to get out of there now it might be a real life-saver. Though of course keep enough distance so you can stop before dangerous places anywhere you can. Even if that makes you that one driver who keeps too much distance, safety first (but fun definitely second).
This brings back memories of when I first learned how to drive a manual. My parents bought me a car, and left me in the parking lot saying they'd meet me at home. Thankfully staff at the place showed me how to get started but uh...it was still a horrible experience.
This is how I learned. I was an 18 year old know-it-all, wanted a manual, Mom tried to convince me otherwise, but I could not be talked out of it. I learned how to drive stick on the hour and a half drive home from the dealer lol. 16 years later, I’ve owned at least 1 manual car at all times.
@@RogueCowTurd Best way to learn, honestly. Also I was an 18 year old dude, technically an adult and I made an adult choice and had to live with the consequences of that choice. I don't blame her. It's like riding a bike...you fail at it a few times but then get the hang of it. By the time I got it home, I figured out how to get it going at stop signs. Benefit of living in the middle of nowhere: that hour and a half drive home was about an hour and fifteen minutes on the highway haha. Once you're rolling, you're not going to stall it out. It's just starting out from a complete stop that's the hardest part of driving stick.

in Switzerland you're only allowed to drive manual if you did your driving exam in a manual. If you learned on automatic and did your exam on automatic, you're only allowed to drive automatic
ah yes the prestigious nugget driving school where clutches are cooked and siblings are tormented. are friendships stronger than the manual nugget we will find out
The bit where your sister couldn’t put the handbreak down rang so true to me because I taught my sister to drive and whenever I’d drive her car to her work so she could drive back home she would always struggle to put the handbreak down from wherever I’d put it even when I’d purposely put it low so she could pop it back in😂😂
Starting the car in 1st with the clutch engaged is absolutely a valid tactic - just make sure you're giving it some juice at the same time and off you pop!
I think it more depends on where you live with whether you’d prefer a manual or auto. My sister is not a car enthusiast. As an example of this when she was getting rid of her first car she said to me “you don’t have to change your oil do you, you just top it up when it gets low.” She has stated that she’s hate an auto, and never want one (my mum is also somewhat similar. My dad has never owned an auto, but does want an electric car for his next car). Actually on my whole street there isn’t one auto
This is so funny and also brought out many memories. My sister taught me how to drive with our parents 1999 Fiat Panda. I kept putting that thing in 3rd instead of 1st. I scratched the entire right side on a wall and she helped me park it so our dad wouldn't see it was scratched. It didn't work out very well
It's fun teaching someone manual, and I do love having that control, but it really is a lot to think about, especially for someone learning to drive. I spent a year with a sim rig and BeamNG before getting a real manual, and that might be the best way to learn, for anyone interested. EDIT: Grammar
I remember my first manual driving experience after having inly driven automatic. I stalled the car so many times, but nothing feels more rewarding than when you successfully shift smoothly
My first time driving manual was as a designated driver and I didn't know I was going to be driving a manual and everyone else was too trashed to properly teach me what to do.

@@shahmi5727 there are older version of proton saga, so need something to differ them
“Nugget Driving School” needs to be a bumper sticker😂
it's hilarious how similar she is while also being so different
In a similar vein, I'd love to see you and James try to drive a tractor trailer (lorry), which doesn't have a synchronized gearbox and can have up to 18 gears or so.
that left foot braking in the automatic gave me more anxiety than seeing the manual driving LOL. tell her to use 1 foot!
Yea, I was like yikes, just no, stop
@@calebmenker988I've seen Americans who have driven for over 10 years do that 😂
Its weird how I've been watching Wade's content for years now and I'm slowly learning that he has more family than just his mom, Frank and 1 grit.
Train frank to drive the goober, no balls
Love watching her drive the auto with her feet on both pedals, prob explains the suddenly acceleration
The Goober is my fav car. I call him Goob
I feel sorry for that poor car's clutch though
@@OnionChoppingNinja nah that's what Goobs job is tho! To be the car you destroy the clutch on when you first learn to drive :)
In all honesty though that hurt just a little bit poor Goober
Ah the goober will be fine.
Goober-y cars are indestructible, just look at tony!
@@ElectroNicko_ yeah my point! Goober cars are invincible
oh my god your sister has a laugh like yours! speaking as someone who's still on their L's at 29 I relate to the struggle so hard in this video...
“Honey wake up garbage time uploaded!”
She sure screams like he does
Their sibling relationship is _amazing._
This is like that top gear segment. Wade's friends and family in a reasonably priced nugget!
“And you’re Bruce’ing.”
Delivered like the proud brother you are.
Seeing her use her left foot on the brake and her right foot on the gas in the automatic made my soul itch.
16 years later, I’ve owned at least 1 manual car at all times.
sounds irresponsible af to be honest
@@Litestorm17 its like riding a bike only that its actually in a 1.5t vehicle driving at 60+ kmph with many other people doing the same thing
stalling is the best worst outcome but theres many other worst outcomes that could happen because you have no experience with 3 pedals
It's fitting that a talking pair of hands has a sister that's a giggling pair of hands and feet
The goober is the best
As someone that took some driving lessons in 2017 and is just about to start up again, this was weirdly helpful
no joke, no lie, God as my witness, i learned to drive manual on a soviet made T-55 MBT
it was horrible
Most of my father's first ~10 years of driving experience was with an IFA, a T55 and a ZIL and about 2 hours of a Lada.
Ok so I read this, thinking “Oh, it’s probably just a cheap nasty crappy car.” So I look it up to verify and the last thing I expected to see was a tank. I laughed so hard and for that I thank you.
This was amazing and Wade is a great big brother for having the patience to allow her to just brutalize the Goober.
Well done you guys!!
Also the slight disappointment when he didn't get to stick it to his buddies for driving like fools we palpable 😂They showed up.
Your sister is now goober certified
This is all giving me vivid flashbacks to my driving lessons. Didn't really work out but it was a fun experience.
Wade teaching his sister is being kinda like a dad teaching math at the dining room table
This is so oddly wholesome and hilarious. She's so excited even though she doesn't really know what she's doing. Love it, she seems so fun!
I have a sister 13 years younger than me! I'm just waiting to teach her how to drive a manual ✨tha propa way mate✨
My dad never did a good job explaining manual when I was a kid, he used to race motorbikes before I was born so I'd ask him how you ride one and he'd explain it quickly and with some unhelpful gesticulation, then tack on trying to describe rev matching ("blip the throttle" in his words) to a kid who still coulidnt properly grasp the purpose of the clutch, so I only really figured out how they work when I was around 15 using youtube videos, it also helps to know how the engine works on top of that.
Having only just passed my driving test here in the UK at 31 years old, this was a delight to watch.
in Switzerland you're only allowed to drive manual if you did your driving exam in a manual. If you learned on automatic and did your exam on automatic, you're only allowed to drive automatic
ah yes the prestigious nugget driving school where clutches are cooked and siblings are tormented. are friendships stronger than the manual nugget we will find out
I like this teaching method. Let the student intentionally make common mistakes so she learns fast
Left foot braking plus 10 points, she is a race car driver now !
As a blind person with practically 0 chance of ever driving a car, I'm learning one heck of a lot of stuff about manuals from this video.
It's a valid tactic as long as you hate your starter motor
@@Johnny362000 We never had the best of relationships, to be fair. It was very rude to me one time and I've never forgotten it.
Doing this in the dead of the night really gives the whole thing a found footage vibe lmao
SHE SOUNDS ADORABLE
😂😂💀
When there is laughter, it isn't sibling bullying...
Lol
I wish I had a younger sibling to this type of stuff with, Wade sounds like he is having more fun than usual!
Rip their clutch probably
Whoever did Tintin in Penrith, genius. 👏
that water bottle is stressin me out
Lol my dad would kill me immediately if i did the same things with a manual car
