mate after seeing the rear end of that 98 corolla I got some very specific at least USA true facts about that Corolla and after having had a 96 I know a lot about them, the fact that it has the 1.8L motor which is the toyota 7A-FE 4 cylinder which came in ONLY THE LE OR DX trims of the corolla makes this an AE102 Corolla, built off of the E100 chassis, man this thing is timeless and simple, there is a beauty in its simplicity, and honestly if the cost to import one to the USA wasn't so high I would, have one imported probably from Japan, I would actually target the AE101 Corolla though with the 1.6L 4A-FE and 5 speed manwell transmission, I will be swapping out the 4A-FE for a custom 7A-GET, which takes the 7AFE block and puts a 4AGE 20V Blacktop head on it and a turbocharger, with a standalone ECU, aiming for 230 to 350 wheel horse power, and of course like your wonderful nugget I will be finishing this corolla in Toyota factory Teal Mist metallic 6N1 I know my favorite pant when I see it mate and that is Teal Mist Metallic I absolutly love those little Corollas and miss mine dearly and to see someone else that I watch regularly enjoying and taking care of one make me happy to see someone else enjoying their car
I would put rubber mounts on the Amp if you are mounting to the box because of the vibration. And I would recommend tuning the Amp because how it is set up now is going to kill the Amp and the subs quick. After that, enjoy the beautiful setup.
I also put a Kicker setup in my 95 Corolla but you're going to find out like I did that the rear parcel tray and C-pillar trim rattle like crazy when you turn the bass up and you'll have to insulate them like I did. Love this little car, this and the Donkey Van are my favorites

A couple audio engineer notes re: the subwoofer Obviously if you're happy with it, there's no need to mess with it, but If you're having issues where the subwoofers are creating a lot of noise, hum, buzz, etc, you might want to try turning down the gain at the subs and turning up the volume at the bass knob (or elsewhere up the signal chain, idk what kind of EQ controls or whatever you've got on there). Analog cables are noisy, and cranking the gain at the end of the signal chain (the amp built into the subwoofer cabinet) means you're turning up all the noise introduced along the length of the cabling, so for purposes of signal-to-noise ratio, it's best to boost the signal level as early on in the signal chain as possible. You would get a more focused response (read: more low end) from the subs by turning down the cutoff frequency. The advantage of subwoofers is that they allow you to split up the frequency spectrum into ranges and send those ranges to speakers so that each speaker can just focus on its own range. 250 Hz is pretty high for a subwoofer cutoff frequency, and setting it that way means you're feeding stuff that isn't really low end into it, meaning the subwoofer has to worry about not only the low end but also some low midrange, thus splitting its focus and reducing the amount of low end you'll get out of it. It's definitely a balancing act, because setting the cutoff frequency too low means you're forcing the main speakers to handle some of the stuff that the subs should be handling. At the same time, if you're getting 120 dB SPL out of your system, you probably have nothing to worry about, but if you're looking to really put those speakers to the test, you might try playing with the cutoff frequency.
Initially I was gonna tell you to shush and let people have fun, but this is a genuinely good comment for giving that sub even more gutbusting bass. Good comment :)

My dad used to have a big subwoofer in his 2002 honda jazz/fit. He always blasted it on high levels. This made the whole car rattle, but when it got rear ended in an accident, the rear window just fell out clean without breaking, because it had been separated from the glue, because of the subwoofer. @@sandror3841 the funny thing was, we had just fitted a new double din Pioneer radio into it, which was a pain to install, but it finally worked. Shouldn't he run no cutoff on the sub and just do everything in the head unit? That's a valid config right? Otherwise thanks for explaining that quite well
My dad used to have a big subwoofer in his 2002 honda jazz/fit. He always blasted it on high levels. This made the whole car rattle, but when it got rear ended in an accident, the rear window just fell out clean without breaking, because it had been separated from the glue, because of the subwoofer. Great times😅
That crash wasn't an accident, someone was jealous lol
@@sandror3841 the funny thing was, we had just fitted a new double din Pioneer radio into it, which was a pain to install, but it finally worked. It played dvd's, had bluetooth and it could be controlled with a remote in my hand, not on the steering wheel. Wonderfull radio, we still have it, but the jazz was totalled. We sold it on, now it's fixed and has a new owner. Our new 2012 Jazz has a standard radio now and my dad doesn't want to change it because it works very well. Might have to convince him to change the speakers one time. He's an hifi nerd(just like me) so that will be easy.
P.s. the accident happened because of an angry maniac, not a jealous guy.
4:42 HUH??
Now you can replicate the experience you had with tony while going up the hill with those speakers!! Bonus points if you overheat it
+1 for James's professionalism. He seems just as happy working on your nuggets as he would working on a classic car restoration.
I imagine he likes the challenge of it.
@@ruffethereal1904 And, honestly, goofing off with your friend making dumb shit. The cars are practically inside jokes between them - and the rest of us too!
In my experience the wing mirror spiders are like the adoring fan from Oblivion, no matter what you do to be permanently rid of them they always return three days later.

In case you ever want to snoop a faded receipt, if you get an iron or well, something hot an open flame works you just have to be careful, and gently apply it to the receipt it will give you a negative of what was printed on it, could be helpful!
never been a car person but for some reason I can't stop watching this channel
It's modern Top Gear
Hey man, you'd already managed to get me into ipods, and now I'm also about to get a tony of my own, who knows, when I have a little more room I might pick up a drum kit too! Your enthousiasm works on me like a good teacher that makes you fall in love with their subject.
Thanks for doing your thing
That was a really nice touch testing that new "sound" system with good ol' Scarlet Fire XD What a ride!
I believe you meant to say “ear-shattering noise” instead of sound, might want to fix that typo

mate i have rarely laughed so hard. nice to see that you finally take responsibility and put the effort into the important areas of a car!
Hey Dank! I do automotive trimming out my garage and I’d be more than happy to fix up that interior for you! Im at the other side of town but it would be an honour sir.
I can just imagine the endless possibilities

Gotta love the effort you put in this videos, you even flip them upright so us "North hemisphere" Folks.
George is unironically my favorite non-human recurring character 🤣
As someone who works on a lot of Numatic products, including the George, this video makes me happy. I recently put a cable on a Henry that was from 1997 and it's still going strong. Also, this makes me miss the stereo I had in my VW Caddy I had in South Africa.

I swear you are teasing us by not changing spark plugs.
What's the bet that a new set of plugs would immediately snowball into another rebuild though..
