How fun that you stumbled upon Lovejoy! I think they named the band after their friend, whose last name was 'Lovejoy'. They got a lot of exposure through front man Wilbur Soot's streaming/online career and were able to keep retention outside that, it's fun to see them grow with every release. I think this is their best production quality so far, it sort of solidified for me that they've got that 'something', but maybe that's just my craving for catchy indie tunes. Notably Wil's lyrics set them apart too. His writing skills were evident in his comedy/solo songs, and very leading for his (internet cult status) album 'Your City Gave me Asthma'. Now another great example would be Lovejoy's song 'The Fall' (which also features a brilliant monologue).
Wilbur Soot, the lead singer of Lovejoy, also has some solo stuff! both serious and comical. I highly recommend the "maybe I was boring" EP by him. Incidentally, Wilbur is also from Suffolk!
i really think lovejoy's gonna get Really big (more than they already are lol) soon , and im so happy to have been there since their debut :D thank u for checking them out , and im glad u like their stuff 💪 them being number 32 on the official charts to start it off ? i think this is gonna be their year for sure (at least i hope so) !!
I vote for a reaction video too! Might be a little long since her vids go on for a bit, but would be fun! And also, Justin should critique her singing in the future on top of it ( if he can find some footage or her singing/performing- or maybe he can special request footage from her), which may get some of her followers to follow Justin too! It would be interesting to hear Justin critique opera . . . and hilarious to watch Justin making tasteful, silly jokes like my dad apparently did when mom once took him to see The Nutcracker (which is ballet, but the same point stands). You can imagine my mom elbowing my dad every two mins with all the split and pirouette impressions from his seat and later at home. My dad appreciated culture, but he just couldn’t take that sort of thing seriously. I’d have to imagine Justin would be in that same “appreciative, but silly” camp. So we would get a dose of opera . . . and some silly fun! I’m sure The Charismatic Voice would find it fun and silly - like picture Justin doing impressions of her charming facial reactions to his music and then doing his own animated reactions to her singing opera in a second video! I don’t believe I’ve ever seen any of her performances. I’m sure there must be footage somewhere. Or maybe she can make a special video for the occasion with some of her students and colleagues. 😂 Okay, it’s settled. Justin is doing a video response to TCV’s video of him. Then he’s doing a critique of her. Yay! 👍🏻😬
Oh, and maybe he can interview her sometime. It would be interesting to learn how about her and her channel. And what she REALLY thinks about metal, punk, rock, etc.
Really enjoy lovejoy! Saw them live back in october and they were incredible! Even got to speak with the band and they were all so lovely! Great video Justin!
@Justin, in an unrelated topic you should definitely get into contact with Elizabeth Zharoff of The Charismatic Voice RUclips channel. She is fascinated with your voice while she was checking out "I Believe in a Thing Called Love". She's a fan of Rick Beato too! I am sure she would love speaking to you about your singing and have a spot of tea! Oh and by the way, she loved the "Space Kraken" on the ship in the video (as do we all, I am sure).
I was so happy seeing lovejoy on the thumbnail and was so happy with the progress they have made as I've stuck around to wilbur soot (watching and listening to him online) for years so seeing him and his friends get on so many channels just makes me so happy how much progress he has made
Just come here from The Charismatic Voice channel, where classically trained opera singer Elizabeth has just analysed your voice. She frikkin' LOVES you! I think she might like to have you as a guest on her channel, and / or vice versa. Everyone's talking about your channel over there too.
Last comment for today, I promise…Elizabeth on The Charismatic Voice has ‘I Believe in a Thing Called Love’ on today! I was only able to watch a few minutes (I will def finish it this evening) but I did see the comments and people are wanting you two to collaborate! I think she’s down for it! She’s so lovely, a collab with her would be so great!! Please check it out! ❤
The note that stays constant through a melodic/harmonic shift is often called "pedal point" or a "pedal" note. The term comes from the use of an organ's bass pedals independently from the keyboard.
If you haven’t watched Elizabeth ( The charismatic voice) react to I believe in a thing called Love yet, you should. She absolutely loves you voice but watching her try to make sense of what’s going on in the Vid is really funny
I LOVE Lovejoy and The Darkness and it makes me so happy to see you taking a look at Lovejoy! I think their lyricism and techniques on the guitar, bass, and drums are just so amazing. Must be something in British rock music that keeps me loving it!
Justin, your Indie vibe and dancing just made my day!! You are so hilarious! A request to you and your prrrrrroducer, if I may… Would you consider making the episodes just a few minutes longer? Not necessarily the song breakdown/analysis, but maybe a bit of just talking, or anything, really. You are so interesting and hilarious! I bet I’m not the only one who would enjoy that!! Have a great day/night!
That intro hit different today; the chord played while singing "again"... oof, that was *chef's kiss* It all melted together like a musical cheese toastie.
3:50 it is suspending, fsus4 to be precise. however, on the G#, you can see that as an augmented 4th since it is a semitone above the 4th relative to the chord, it is not a diminished 5th because the rhythm guitar plays the 5th of the chord. Edit: as far as I am aware, the main songwriter, Will Gold, did not attend collage for music, he was self taught. I don't know about the other members but Mark was a session musician so he might of picked some stuff up from around the Brighton scene, and Joe and Ash seems to be rather knowledgeable with music, I might be wrong but I think Ash has an interest in music theory. Edit 2: The half spoken bridge is heavily inspired by Los Campensinos' debut album Hold On Now, Youngster, specifically the tracks You Me Dancing and This Is How You Spell "HAHAHA..."
If I had just acquired that gorgeous guitar, I'd be constantly holding it up to the camera saying "just look at it!" (I mean, it also probably sounds really good.)
Growing-up in Haverhill, where some Lovejoy scenes were filmed, it was also a favourite. My Mum once saw Tinker in Haverhill Sainsbury’s. I’m not sure if Ian McShane was there too
Thank you so much, Justin! 😘😘😘 I really needed an episode like this one, and not for the reviewed genre but because of the hilarious moments 1:25, 1:34, 8:30, 9:07 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Superb!
Just watched a reaction to I believe in a thing called love by Elizabeth on the channel “the charismatic voice”,she’s interviewed many singers and she loves your voice
I love all these uploads… its like having an old friend you can check in with when you need cheering up. Thanks for all you do Justin (and Miss MoneyPenny!)
Indie never went away. Pat the bunny is a great example ao many dif prpjects icluding ramsackle glory, wingnut dishwashers union, johnny hobo and the frieght trains. Ani difranco is a good example, sh started her own record label Rightous babe records. That dance brings back memories. Can you give any advice on voice lessons? Im having a difficult time finding someone? Last thing do you do any live streams? I really enjoy your content!!!!
I'm sure you were told, the creator of The Charismatic Voice and The Singing Hole channels did a vocal analysis of your performance of *A Thing Called Love*. She is a very sweet lady with multiple degrees in music and voice, ex-opera singer that performed in 19 different languages! ...and she loves your voice @Justin, said it's incredible Happy Valentine's Day ❤️
Hi Justin, check the video about you from “the charismatic voice”. You will like it 😊 About your other video “Limp Bizkit”, my son opened for that band a few years ago in Luxembourg … Atomic Rocket Seeders (it is a metal trio from Luxembourg).
Yes, I love the radio presenter voice from the olden days! Weren't the Indie dance moves even less livelier? Ian McShane also played Blackbeard in Pirates of the Caribbean that's where I know him from. I have to say I love the enthusiasm and the uncontainable liveliness! And the dramatic pause lured me into suspense before the 'Or maybe not' catapulted me right out again. 🤣
Justin, you will never know the insane pleasure I get from watching a widely recognized Guitar God such as your good self fluffing and buzzing notes in a desperate search for musical truth. All part of the process!
Just checking in Justin. I would truly appreciate your take on my band The Micawbers. We wrote an album about the radicalization of Europe and the madness of the current cultural climate and I still stand by my opinion that it will eventually be seen as one of the most important albums of the past 5 years (regardless of how many/little streams it gets). I started writing our follow up album this week and I know it's going to be even stronger. Much love from a Norwich born guy who ended up in Los Angeles. The album is called "Aim Low, Get Sold" xxx
"The diablo from the root" lol My best recordings were off my boombox. Because our PA wasn't loud enough I would put the boombox right-up on the PA speaker for the perfect mix. I hated studios because it killed the spontaneity. I liked the bleed. Everything out of the studio sounded sterile. Good job mate.
Justin, I've just watched a video reaction by The Charismatic voice on The Darkness' I believe in a thing called love. it was very good, and she really loves your voice!
Justin, was it natural hair locks in "I Believe In A Thing Called Love" music vid, asks Elizabeth of the really big vocal coach youtube channel "The Charismatic Voice" as she reviews your music vid in the brand new episode
Love the channel, JH! Please do a vid on The Peept Tempel, maybe their song "Carol"? They were truly one of Australia's coolest bands and never got the recognition they deserved. Every song is basically a portrait of Australia's underbelly.
I would absolutely love to see you do a review of Voiceplay especially their cover of Nothing Else Matters or Dream On. The arrangements of these are epic! I'm always in awe of your ability to pick out the chords/time signatures/ etc. so quickly! I thoroughly enjoy your channel!

Absolutely love Lovejoy. Got introduced to them through my daughter, who followed Wilbur Soot on RUclips. We’ve been listening to them for a few years. We saw them in Cardiff in October and they were awesome live. Pretty good lyrics in their songs. I do hope they make it big, they deserve it. I relate to Soot’s Jubilee Line. “Your city gave me asthma, so that’s why I’m fucking leaving.” 😂
Hey Justin, just another Charismatic Voice fan here, encouraging you to check out her reaction to IBIATCL, Her videos can be long but well worth watching. She’s like the Rick Beato of voice expertise. (I desperately want her to cover Ren!). Love your channel…
You're so funny 😂 Do Heilung please, I'm so curious how you'll analys them and what you think of them. They are nothing like you've (that I've seen anyway) ever looked/listened at in here before. Thank you in advance from Oslo Norway 💓 Love The Darkness as well 🎶🎶
Hey the RUclips Channel “Charismatic Voice” did a breakdown/review of “I believe in a Thing Called Love”, you should do a collaboration with her?! Also, can you please check out the Mars Volta song “Cerulea” from their latest Self-titled album. The song reminds me of something & I can’t place it, it is just out of my grasp, & I have a hunch you’ll know what it is that it reminds me of, so I can get rid of that itch I can’t scratch, thanks!
I discovered Lovejoy late last year and they've quickly become one of my favourite bands. I don't know about the rest of the members but Wilbur (the lead singer) is a self taught musician
love you Justin, thanks for taking the time to check us out 😊
ASH!!!
Omg a wild kabosu!
here you see an ash in his natural habitat
hi Ash! :D
HI ASH!
How fun that you stumbled upon Lovejoy! I think they named the band after their friend, whose last name was 'Lovejoy'. Benedict Lovejoy gets a shoutout.
Yea Will is amazing at writing lyrics. "Since I saw vienna" is one of my favorite examples.
Wilbur Soot, the lead singer of Lovejoy, also has some solo stuff! both serious and comical. I highly recommend the "maybe I was boring" EP by him. Incidentally, Wilbur is also from Suffolk!
Surely worth checking out

no doubt, they are getting more mainstream it’s so cool and funny to me to see people being surprised when they discover wilbur is a streamer lol
@@firewhite its literally the opposite of how it used to be , people being shocked that wilbur made music LOL -- they rlly went a long way
JHRA: The only channel that covers pop culture, music theory and technique, and syntax and grammar. I love this man.
And dance moves 💥

just saw the Charismatic Voice covering the Darkness. She loved your voice.
I just watched this and now I REALLY want Justin to do a reaction video to her video! Would be amazing! 🤩
It's really cool I hope Justin goes and checks it out
It would be really cool to get a singers feedback on one of her videos, so I hope Justin goes and does a reaction video on it too

Yeah be great to stream a chat with Elizabeth like you did with Rick B
Her viewing of Stevie Ray Vaughan was an awesome video.
Double Justin! Just watched The Charismatic Voice react to The Darkness! Good day...
I wanted to tell him!!!!!! 😠
I believe "The Fall" by Lovejoy also has a dramatic monologue type segment? So that might be one to look into too!
I was so happy seeing lovejoy on the thumbnail and was so happy with the progress they have made as I've stuck around to wilbur soot (watching and listening to him online) for years so seeing him and his friends get on so many channels just makes me so happy how much progress he has made

Love the confusion between Boon and Lovejoy with Ian McShane classic lol ❤😅
Ian McShane! That's it!
5:09 - the bass line reminds me of The Cure's Love Song more than anything Blur did
The inidie dancing and the character search about a tv show has won the internet today. Always fantastic, Justin!
And 05:29
@@youropionmattersnot Hahaha...yes!

The fact you could tell that bit about music college from the guitar blows my mind a bit, I think one of their members went to BIMM in Londkn
Thanks for the indie dance lesson.

just watched: First Time Listening to The Darkness! Vocal ANALYSIS of "I Believe In A Thing Called Love" by The Charismatic Voice
well, not anymore!
I quite recommend the fall and yeah, you wanna cry? As they are my favourite songs by them :D

Happy Valentine's Day ❤️
That second verse riff could very well be inspired by The Cure's Lovesong.. Very similar
Charismatic Voice loves you. What a great breakdown of your voice.
"Antiques driven crime fighting". Yeah, it was pretty niche, wasn't it?!
Oeuvre!
Should check out the charismatic voice's reaction from today! I think you'd enjoy her reaction to your voice
I cannot believe this is where we're at! Lovejoy getting commented on by Justin Hawkins is just the best timeline I could hope for!

just watched this to see what people just finding lovejoy thought and I am thoroughly entertained, definitely laughed a few times while watching :)
Jeez...I LIVED that dance lesson 🤣 Thanks for the reminder Justin, good memories, those!
Justin, you will never know the insane pleasure I get from watching a widely recognized Guitar God such as your good self fluffing and buzzing notes in a desperate search for musical truth. All part of the process!

Much love from a Norwich born guy who ended up in Los Angeles.
The album is called "Aim Low, Get Sold" xxx
Dude... that guitar of yours here, sounds like the John Frusciante Niandra lades and usually just a t shirt acoustic... a lot!!! Super badass... 🤘
Justin Fucking Hawkins Rides Againnnn! 🎶🎶🎶🔥
Big Will/LoveJoy fan here, just discovered your channel and I am in love
The minimal part of the melody reminds me of Lovesong by The Cure.
"The diablo from the root" lol My best recordings were off my boombox. Because our PA wasn't loud enough I would put the boombox right-up on the PA speaker for the perfect mix. Just got done watching The Charismatic Voice going full Fangirl over you!
Winston of The Continental rides again \m/
Hopefully their new album will bring something good to the table, i genuinely think they have the potential to make an impact on the music scene.
I'm so glad Lovejoy is getting the recognition it deserves❤
6:00 completely reminds me of the intro to "escapade" by the sherlocks they sound almost identical
Ahh watching Love joy reminds me of after school , the fam all sitting watching TV. nice indie dancing BTW 🕺
Justin, I've just watched a video reaction by The Charismatic voice on The Darkness' I believe in a thing called love. it was very good, and she really loves your voice!
@5:10 Immediately I hear The Cure - Love Song
that is the most gorgeous guitar i have ever seen
I remember the shoe-gazing Indie dancing days too! Yeah, I'm *that* old!😂
Justin, was it natural hair locks in "I Believe In A Thing Called Love" music vid, asks Elizabeth of the really big vocal coach

I liked Lovejoy too. Starred Ian McShane. Who also starred here in the US on Deadwood, which was another favorite show of mine.
“The charismatic voice” just did a great analysis of “ I believe in a thing called love”, check it out Justin, she loved you!
Love the channel, JH! Please do a vid on The Peept Tempel, maybe their song "Carol"? They were truly one of Australia's coolest bands and never got the recognition they deserved. Every song is basically a portrait of Australia's underbelly.
Haha half the comments are about the Charismatic Voice :D love it.
This is sick! Lovejoy are one of my favourite bands
Really, or do you prefer the wombats 🤣
Same for me i think Lovejoy is a great band and i love the vibe of them
I hear some New Order after the chorus, as the mid-range chord pedals and the "Bass" moves around
I would absolutely love to see you do a review of Voiceplay especially their cover of Nothing Else Matters or Dream On. The arrangements of these are epic! I'm always in awe of your ability to pick out the chords/time signatures/ etc. so quickly! I thoroughly enjoy your channel!

@askseren ッ what’s that mean??
@askseren ッ ah I see! Aww thanks for the compliment then. 😊 x
That baggy jumper worked perfectly for the Indie dancing demo 😂 Thanks Justin X
I blame Mumford/Lumineers for the every beat kick thing. Like bearded men with acoustic guitars stomping their heeled boots 'gainst the barn floor.
Hey Justin, just another Charismatic Voice fan here, encouraging you to check out her reaction to IBIATCL, Her videos can be long but well worth watching. She’s like the Rick Beato of voice expertise. (I desperately want her to cover Ren!). Love your channel…
The Indie dancing and that “Indie look”were perfect!! haha!!
That verse part is very similar to The Cures Love song .
Reminded me of Cure once it opened up
C'mon Justin, 5:13 and 6:00 onwards is 'The Cure - Lovesong'. Thought you would have nailed that similarity ;)
Justin ..... that's a gorgeous guitar ❤️
Probably one of the biggest reasons they’re so popular is cuz the lead singer Wilbur Soot is a very popular Minecraft RUclipsr/streamer
Wilbur soot, seriously 😅🤣😂
Not his real name....it is a gaming tag. His real name is Will Gold
Sorry but it is absolute drivel, lyrically and musically but please keep watching
How many "classic" songs through the years have lyrics that are absolute drivel? Lots.....
Perfectly phrased thumbnail Justin. Quick wit and instant repartee.
Killers -jenny was a friend ......meets Lloyd Cole and the Commotions.
Hahaha the dancing... honestly LOL
You're so funny 😂 Do Heilung please, I'm so curious how you'll analys them and what you think of them. They are nothing like you've (that I've seen anyway) ever looked/listened at in here before. Thank you in advance from Oslo Norway 💓 Love The Darkness as well 🎶🎶
Al Swearengen (Ian McShane) was great in Lovejoy and Deadwood!
Justin. At :42 an orb flies up from your left hand. A spirit enjoys your podcast as well! 👻 🎸
There's some Sisters of Mercy in there, too.
The Cure- Lovesong but with short sleeve jumpers and beanies
Enjoyed the dance lesson.
Very like Pulp, just without a decent melody and gud words!
The music video reminds me of Bright Eyes at the bottom of everything
