If he sang it with this power in the esc 2011 he would be the winner
Ακριβώς. Τέτοιου είδους τραγούδια αν δεν αποδοθούν σωστά live, χάνονται.
If the song hadn't been lowered in key, as well. This version was perfect.
@Euroviking86 the singer who needs his own song to be lowered down is not a singer! Sorry
If you don't understand that's not french it's Corsican
+On NeRespecte Rien I understand because it's very close to Italian.
so its more french or italian?
It's more related to Italian than French
Isn't it basically a dialect of Italian?
@@tFighterPilot not all:
many words are understandable, others, for me at least (I'm emilian) are a mistery
The best French entry in Eurovision Song Contest...
Greetings from Greece
The best french song...in italian🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹
if his hair was blond, he would look EXACTLY like france from hetalia
He was too good for the Eurovision Song Contest
His live performance wasn't. Don't get me wrong, i really like this song. But let's not act like this lackluster performance didn't happen. Can happen to anyone everytime, to bad it happened this evening.
Agree, this masterpiece was too good to the contest. Is true that he didn't sang perfectly but he had technical issues. However, even having "a bad day" he was miles above from the rest
he sings like an angel and he is so beautiful on an mysterious way.
I love his voice and his face. xx
I loved this song, it was fantastic. It made me stop what I was doing just so I could cose my eyes and listen to it fully ! Truly amazing voice and meody ! I had hoped it would have won,the song, and singer deserved it!
Greetings from Slovenia !
It's a real shame because that year, France was the favourite of the bookmakers. But Amaury didn't have a comeback in his ear, which he did, so he sang off-key. Anyway, congratulations to him .
This song is such amazing and deserved a way better place than it got at the contest!! Awsume singer!!! Greetings from Austria!
He should have won 10 times over. My favourite eurovision song, but then again i dont know thaaat many years.
He didn't perform this well at the finals.
Milos is right. The song is wonderful, this video confirms this guy can sing, however in the show itself he was too nervous and that ruined his vocal performance. It was a real pity. If he nerves didn't kill him like that, he would indeed be the winner, and then this would indeed be one of the best French entries, if not one of the best ESC entries in general. I felt so sorry for him seeing him struggling against his nerves there on the stage. I've never felt so sorry for an artist. I wanted him to win so bad.... :'(
If he had only sounded like this in the finale he would have won...but he seemed to get lost in his own song and did not sound convincing. But in this video he is...fantastic!!
Great song but the live performance was very bad so he did not deserve to do well :(
The incredible beauty and strength of both the song and singer brings tears in my eyes, each time! 🙂🥲
This is one amazing song, and tbh - it's just too good for the ESC.
12 points from Israel.
I get chills every time I listen to this song.... :)) just love it....
@akirasusai
He doesn't sing in Neaples dialect but in Corsic dialect, whis is actually very close to italian and to some of its dialects, so i understand it's easy to be confused if you're not italian... i think it was very admirable of France to present a song in this language!
And thanks for "Italy rocks" :-D hope ppl liked the song of our return to esc!
2 minutes and 50 seconds of pure excellence ....
lindíssima esta canção adorei, foi pena não ter a classificação que merecia!
I think more eurovision songs should be like this one :)
2020?
People forgot what Eurovision was established for. It suppose to be all European countries presenting their culture through a song. I think France did a phenomenal job by presenting this classical piece (history), a real music, real instruments, real talent. It is a part of who they are. No one should say this song sucks..
It is sad that everything is made by computers, even artists voices are polished to sound better.
I am Polish but I give standing ovation for French Eurovision Song!!!!!!!!!
@rex88moser Yes,UK voices were too whispered on refrain, like the singers were tired or having a microphone problem.France singer was very good in my opinion,a little bit of emotion is not bad for such a romantic song and look BUT his song was not for happy children, for people disliking opera-sound,etc,it was not an overall hit to be mass-voted.In my opinion Azerbaijan was dull in semifinal but very soulful in final,I knew they will have a good place even if I had different favourites.
@YouWereBornToServeMe I don't agree with you.UK music is very loved on the continent, there is no political adversion against UK.You had place 5,place 10,plce22,it depends exclusively on the SONG,if is a hit for super-large groups of audience or not.Azerbaijan's song had dance and romantism, appealed to boys and romantic girls, men and women.UK had dance and energy, but it was not for the romantics.France was for a certain age, education, for romantic, melancholic etc,not for everyone. And so on..
@Shaqify32 My country Romania is in the contest for almost 20 years, from the beginning of the 90.This is not too new.I know you said lot a good things about East but I just wanted to point out that East countries are very diverse, sometimes in historical rivalry with neighbours(like Azerbaijan and Armenia or Russia) they are not a block against West countries. The only small voting blocks that could exist are on ethnic basis(the scandinavians, the germanics, the russians in 3 countries, yougoslavs..
@TheOlympe Again, these are just your personal conclusions,i did not hear any stupid or bad song,or shameful singers etc.etc.If a song had some humour this is OK,music is about ALL kind of emotions. The voting system is just for more fun and thrill in fact it is impossible to measure music, music is all about soul and personal vibrations. Some voters are children liking more fun, some are girls liking romantic or man liking more powerful songs,it's not mathematics is just a show, enjoy it!
@YouWereBornToServeMe No more than the Scandinavians, the germanics..However, a group of 2,3 maximum 5 good friends for a country cannot make a winner, because 43 countries are voting.Azerbaijan was voted by everyone,Lena also got votes from all Europe, the guy with the violin from Norway got lots of votes from East, west,North and South.
@Shaqify32 It's only you westerners thinking of Europe in such a discriminative way,West and East.People from East Europe are ethnically very diverse, sometimes not even friends and only split Yougoslavian countries or some Russian republics can vote in a block, otherwise the 'East" block is just your invention.
@TheOlympe Man,people with different musical taste than you are not 'deaf' they are just different.I liked France song,it was in my top 5,but remember 43 countries had their best in this contest and some songs gathered more fans than others that's all! France's entry was beautiful no need to be upset if some songs had more voters.
@palmtreehomonculus me and my dad argue about this language thing all the time, i like the idea of it being in their own languages but the fact of the matter it is a competition and if you want your song to have wide appeal you have to sing in a language that is recognised all over europe, not everyone knows all the languages of europe (as much as i would like that)
@CHRISTIAN6182 dude it is attitudes like this that make people hate the English. BTW, before you start i am English and i have to say that we are pretty ignorant of our european neighbours which shows when it comes to the voting. If we want to be respected in europe we need to join the eu and accept them into our lives as much as they accept each other.
i love it, really want it to win, and Corsican what a beautiful language
@nemanjanjic16 Lol, are you're trying to say that Azerbaijan has more money. Don't be ridiculous France is among richest in Europe. Those are just excuses, also that the country with many neighbors win. I absolutely adore this song and I voted for it but I get that most of the people isn't into opera
maybe one day i will be there too...and i dont need to invite RED ONE or someone other...like russian does. I compose songs myself....and one of my new hits is Alessia Upside down...this song is much better than what this Alex Sparrow sings...dont believe me??? check it yourself...
maybe he didn't win the eurovision but he definelitly won my heart!
@surferstapleton btw i happen to like zombie computer games and i am 23..... nothing wrong with that, you probably like going out and drinking, each to their own dude
This is real Music!!!
Greetings from Germany :)
Beautiful!
this song was huge... huge.... great... belissimoooooo... it gave me goose bumps.. it was so beautiful. Im so sad it didnt get more points :(
he's got a great voice but the song is just..meh... in desparate need of a decent melody.

@BaronWeeren. Monsieur le Baron, YOU are wrong. The islands make an archipelago which spoke a version of Norman French from at least the 1100s until the 20th century. The English language came to dominate life in the 20th Century. The local population spoke D’gernésiais on Guernsey, a dialect of its own, but a patois of French. English is predominant now but now historically, just like Czech is spoken in western Czechia, but not up until 1945...........
@Wardstone99p I just mean that the "East Block" is pretty new in competition and it has been alot of complainments on them. My point is that when a country from the "East Block" wins, you can't blame it on neighboursvoting.
I see Europe as Europe, that's a truth, but countries like Ukraine, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Armenia, Romania, Moldova etc. are pretty new in the contest.
Okay, as alot of you here, i neither like "Running Scared", but still you can't blame everything on the eastern or neighbourvoting as fast as a West land doesn't win. I mean, it's probably 50/50 on East/West countries. The last two years Norway and Germany has won. This year, it was time for East to win again. It's as simple as that. If you blame the Eastern, then you're a bad looser.
Btw, i'm a Swede!
@TheOlympe france doesnt have enough neigbhors or immigrants in other european countries. even if the song is perfect the best place it can get is 8th..same for spain and uk. even blue couldnt change that fact.
immigrants are passionate to vote, cause turkey would never give 12 points to armenia. and germany would never give 12 points to turkey. lol
also the orthodox and scandinavian brotherhood is obvious
@GLambySaur I am French and I agree. If you remember (long ago, in 1962, would you believe !) a song "Et Maintenant" composed and sung by Gilbert Bécaud, which became later "What now my love" in English.
The tempo is a bit like the Clasical "Bolero" of Ravel (another French composer !!! ).
You can hear a performance by Becaed ud much later (1987) on You-Tube:
There was much more energy in Gilbert Bécaud than in today's Amaury Vassili.
@Wholphin100 He started much lower then he usually does. And he is professional , he couldn't allow himself to make such a big mistake. There were problems with the sound, it was clear and poor guy was confused . I still respect and admire him . At least he worked so freaking much, opera is the most difficult type of singing and I respect his choice of style.Everyone have a right to mess up once. And also it's not his fault. Amaury , don't matter what , don't be sad!Peace to all of u guys!
I wasn't really impressed by his performance. He's got a nice voice and he hit the tones well enough, but he clearly lacked the air to hold a tone for more than a few seconds, which a professional should be able to do. The finish in particular was rather weak. As far as the song is concerned: Classical music is fine with me, but I guess it is almost impossible to win the contest with such a song because a large part of the audience isn't into it.
He's actually wasting he's voice on this eurovision, because he has the talent and he has wonderful voice and he probably won't win cause of that. In few years time this will become competition for most commercial song, most boring and usual slimy pop song...I personally think it's time to someone like Amaury wins. Belgium had perfect a capella song and they were really really good and they didn't win...I hope it's gonna be 12 points from Serbia :)
@triffffon I happen to like this kind of thing and this is particularly well sung, but the song is nothing special. It is not the next Nessun Dorma that will take Europe by storm and convert people to opera. This guy has a huge future, but this is a song contest not a voice one and there are far better songs this year. So I don't for a moment see how it is the favourite to win.
Wow guys you're really bad at finding in what language it is. IT IS NOT IN ITALIANO !!! BUT IN CORSICAN , WHICH MEANS A FRENCH LANGUAGE. Go learn History instead of criticizing. And by the way, it was written in the french french also , but it gives something more special in corsican. But i understand that you don't understand the lyrics. Allez Amaury, tu es le meilleur cette année. No doubt about that.
It is a very beautiful song. This young man is a very beautiful, he makes young girls dreaming about tru love( he looks like on of vampyres from Twilight)) He sings very good- he is just 21 yo for Gods sake. I love all about him and the song. But I realize that this song cannot be a succses on ESC. Opera is not popular there... And there are a lot of good songs this year. to hard to choose
@PunkMarg et jessy matador il chialait dans son micro? sérieux ça sert a rien de se prendre le choux on verra bien on va pas chialer si on gagne ça ne sera pas la premiere ni la derniere fois!!
France really entered this?
While I agree that Amaury Vassili definitely has the best voice out of all the contestants (it's like honey
@GAELMIC Czech has been spoken in all parts of Czechia (Bohemia and Moravia) since the 8th century along with German. I do not know where you get your facts from, but they are simply wrong. German was eradicated in all parts of Czechoslovakia following WW 2 as a direct act of retribution against the germans. Every child here knows that.
@GAELMIC Reread your history. The Channel Island were not French until they were invaded by the French in1338 who held some territory until 1345. Before that they were held by Britain after it had been conquered by William, the Duke of Normandy. The language predominating on all four islands has ALWAYS been English.
@Wardstone99p I think he lost a lot of votes because of his nerves that where clearly audible during the live prefomance. I don't think i belong to any of the groups you list in your comment who like him. BTW the UK preformance was also not good live and the azerbeidjan's song sounded and worked beter in de video. I'm sorry we came last so underserved for our entry.
@Wardstone99p
You're very right. The SFRY (Yugoslavia) was a collection of 6 countries that often do vote for each other. The same happens in the Scandinavian 5: Sweden; Finland; Iceland; Denmark; Norway. It's just classic Eurovision, and generally the Eastern side of Europe band together more, whereas we just vote for whoever was random. Good old Blighty...
Love this song, and I think he's the only singer this year(or ever in EV history) that actually sounded good live and recorded...amazing voice, lovely song, beautiful language - only reason why he didn't win is because it's NOT a song for idiots without hearing, I guess you need a higher IQ to appreciate it :)
@crazykickasskate1988 You're right. But it doesn't help that people are not always curious about other languages... It's sad, really - this and the fact that people get all pissed because they didn't win or didn't get the points they want... at least, it should be something done in a rather 'friendly' manner. (I should stop dreaming, really)
@TheMysteriousOswald Well said! For that reason I think he should win. However if he doesn't, I think he should definately be in the Top 10 or Top 5. To be any less would be a travisity because he has more talent in his little finger than the likes of Hungary, Azerbaijan, Ireland or Estonia's entries put together (No offence, Jedward!)
@Mellcsusz Why don't read about a billion of the other comments that have been made here? He is singing in Corsican, which while close to Italian is also a French dialect. Together with the fact that Amaury is French, this is pretty much a French entry. BTW, they tried making all the entries sing in their own languages for a short period in the 70s and it was awful.
Amaury Vassili chose to sing in Corsican because it is closer to Italian than French, and in his opinion Italian is the best language to sing classical music in. However Corsican is a regional language/dialect of France and Amaury himself is French. So this is very much a French entry. I will be voting for this on Saturday! :D
I like this song, i don't know if it's Eurovision material, but it is a very good song.
France always surprises me...one year Patricia Kaas with that slow song, then Jessy Matador and now this. First place for the surprise element but euro fans don't usually respond well to such songs. Maybe it will make the difference...
Why shouldn't France enter a song like this? I'm glad they haven't confirmed to Eurovision profiles this year. The Big Five have done that too often. Thankfully this year all Five of them have played it completely straight... and Amaury's vocals are amazing.
Given also that NONE of the songs this year are a clear winner, something that's different could well win it.
@21JKa Because it's something different. None of the other songs are *clear* winners because none of the are good enough to stand up strongly against the rest. In that climate a song that's different is more likely to succeed. It'll depend on the mood of the audience... but don't dismiss Amaury just because he's different.
wow i didnt watch the eurovision i was just listening to the songs and France should have won because not only is this beautiful its full of feelings and in the country's language lol >-
There's a good reason why many good singers of Eurovision didn't win. Eurovision wants to keep legends for later. So they give it to young and bands that won't last any more than 10 years...
Case and point - France, Sweden, Norway, U.K., Romania, Belarus ... etc.
hes a very good singer but i can understand he didnt win. its not that kind of music people hear through the day. its really good but people want some singers who make the "normal" music. they want kind of mainstream-music.
at least he should be really lucky to have this voice. :)
@emidka Perhaps, because such extraordinary energy and power of this song has not reached to the poor hearts of Europe. This unparalleled talent and an extremely nice person. His work deserves the world's best ratings! But let him not upset, millions of listeners love it anyway! He is divine!
@leekepwn well, it has to be something with the IQ, if ppl don't understand that this is a singing competition, and you need a somewhat good voice when singing, doesn't that show their IQ level :p
but hey, this competition has almost never been about the singing, it's all about the show ;)
@DarkDragonHearts I'm sure if you bribe Greece with cats, he'd do anything... or if you tell him it's just to pwn Turkey. He would.^^ And Austria in a dress would be awesome - I'm worried about Germany though - I feel like someone would just barge in because he's too awesome... ^^
@TheMysteriousOswald Eurovision IS a cheesy competition. Always will be. Too much gliitter, too much fire. I like watching it, but it's a fact. Classical music is not something that everyone can understand. So yes, the song isn't fit for eurovision and I mean it in the best way possible.
I personally tip this song to win the eurovision. But what do I know! i haven't picked a winner in the past twenty years!!
Seriously however this is the best song in the competition and the best singer.
It all depends however who puts in the best performance on the night.
Tony.
Ah, i cant believe all these comments. No - hes not a classical singer. No - this ist not classical music, it´s camouflaged pop. And not even good pop...
Still some people will vote for this wannabe prince charming just to feel intelligent and classy once in their lifetime -.-
somehow too elitist, the song as well as the singer's appearance in this video. therefore both don't have my sympathy.
but of course one can't objectively claim he hadn't a great voice or wouldn't do a good job. however - bonne chance! Amicalement, un de tes voisins allemands!
Corsican is a Romance language and has been influenced by the Medieval Italian cities from 828 - 1768, and from that time it has been French... I saw some Bilingual road-signs, with French names crossed out, kind of interesting.... French is not liked by everyone there I guess
With his shaggy haircut, leathers and denims, the singer's a bit too obviously trying not to be a traditional opera singer... and why does he keep singing over his shoulder? To be honest I find him a bit annoying... but I really like the song, and this is in my top five.
Ohh my God what a song....he has an Angel voise , that song deserve to take from all countries 12 points . Personal i give 10000000000000000000000000000000000000 points to this song. I hope France win the contest beacuse if not will be a really shame !!! Good luck France !!
@TheTheoldgit You don't have to sing in English. i don't know where you got that idea! The rules are you can sing in any language you want. Its just that most countries choose to sing in English as it is the most universally understood language in eurovision.
It's just so beautiful. He has an amazing voice! Greetings from Hungary.
@doomster345
I'm 13 and one of my favourite songs is Giorni Dispari from Ludovico Einaudi ( Which isn't really modern). And I really hate Operas cause the stories are almost never really good. But this was clearly one of the best entries!
@jmojca His language is Corsican from Corsica, it's very similar to Italian but there are many differences, for example:
Sognu (Corsican) = Sogno (Italian) = Dream (English)
Anyway it's a beautiful song, one of my favourite songs at Eurovision
@CssPresentMrmooN
What has Justin Bieber got to do with this:)? At nearly every video from Eurovision 2011 you find something about justin.
Its a great song, i think. i love his voice. Could somebody translate the text in german for me, please?
@Wardstone99p Yes. There are exceptions. And winners are created by a communal vote. That doesn't mean that the 8,10 and even the 12 go to the same block of acts. ESC has become more political in the last few years. That's how the UK hasn't won much...
can't believe that in France was any one more talented ... he has completely ordinary voice, nothing catching or touching at all . Even checking some country's " .. got talent" shows is possible to find somebody much more impressive
Great song - they missed the point and might have won if they had put some attractive schoolboys on stage who can't sing, but have lots of energy and evoke sympathy with embarrassing acts. Check out Ireland if you don't believe me!
@WonderfullSerbia oh, come on...it's not about the religion, why does everything have to be about religon these days, leave EV out of it! there hasn't been room for great songs like this one for many years in this competition, no matter what religion won!
@axintje Now, it's more about doing anything that's remotely catchy in order to win... it's about winning, not about representing your country - and there should be something to make people sing in their own language... not all english.
opera is not eurovision material. it wont win sorry. i know im irish and it may some bias but for us, we have jedward and although they are not professional singers, they do entertain the audience. this will bore people....im sorry
Beautiful song! I'm not sure it will win though - the voters are very unpredictable who knows what will happen! I'm from Ireland so am obviously rooting for jedward but this would be a very worthy winner also - would sound amazing live I'd say.
@Offspringchick29 i would like that too, but that wont happen, because its more of a political contest, and to get the approval of the viewers and the votes from them the singers need to use a language that most people understand - and its obviously english
I'm sorry, but this definetely didn't look really romantic, when he was surveying the photos of his loved at 2.13. Either the singer or the director of the video is not doing a good job. I think Francemen are more passionate than that, am I not right?
That was a fantastic song. When I heard it I was petrified.I can see that people are more intrested in pop songs with hyper beeps rather than a truly marvellous voice.
However, the worst thing about eurovision is the political voting. They are only songs and not a danger to the sovergenity of your nation. If only people would vote based on music...
At least my country Greece voted 12 for France.:)
I had heard the beautiful voice of this young man sing before... - he has risen to a new level. . . This is a beautiful song - captivating... enrapturing with an element of romantic epic poetry which makes you soar. . . However, I would have liked to see him project a bit more as I know he CAN do better than this. Despite this, he has talent and should continue onto the world stage. BRAVO!! APPLAUSE!
