Provide egg cartons and fresh veggies such as greens, carrot, and potato. Make sure the container is a decent size. I’d look into roaches, they last longer.
You mentioned that mealworms should be part of a varied diet, I have been doing one feeding crickets one feeding mealworms and occasionally throwing in other feeders but for the main part that is what I do. Is that too often should I change that?
Hello! I recently got a candle as a gift and I really wanted to burn it in my room it's scented lavender and pine it said it was good for reducing pet Oder. I just bought it cause it smelled good is it ok to burn?
It’s crazy because my gecko is a month or so older than Maui (he officially weighs 51g yay!!!) but they’re the EXACT SAME morph so it’s very cool to watch him grow up as it is to watch mine!
For leopard geckos: Live crickets, roaches, locusts, silkworms, and black soldier fly larvae can be fed regularly. Mealworms, super worms, and hornworms can be fed occasionally. The more variety in their diet, the better. For baby crested geckos: You can feed small crickets, roaches, silkworms, and black soldier fly larvae. They can have small hornworms once they’re big enough (hornworms get very big, very quickly).
dude you totally should, just do enough research before you get one, as long as your changing lightbulbs once they go out thats all good for heat, and my gecko is on a diet of only crickets, mealworms and such can make them sick if they have too many, its like equivalent to a human eating a cupcake basically, but they’re good for little treats!! and for young leopard geckos your gonna wanna feed them every single day, but once their older you should start feeding them like twice a week. i feed mine on monday and thursday :) im still a first time gecko owner and its awesome having one!!
I don’t know any specific good breeders, but check morph market, just research the breeder before buying. Avoid BHB, underground reptiles, LLL, backwater reptiles, snakes at sunset, and cb reptiles. Aim for smaller hobbyist breeders rather than large scale breeders. You can also check Craigslist, there are many geckos that need good homes (just make sure they’re healthy).
Okay so I know this isn’t a crested gecko video, but I was thinking about getting one and I want to know why your food can’t contain synthetic d3 if you are providing uv lighting? Will something bad happen?
My crested gecko is seriously underweight I’ve fed him waxworms crickets everything and he hasn’t gained any weight he seems ok as he’s very active. Can you please help?
What’s your feeding schedule? I have one albino gecko that I tong feed (he has bad eyesight) mealworms on mondays and thursdays. I usually feed 10 mealworms. I feed crickets and super worms occasionally because he’s very picky
@@nightinggale6470 super worms are better than mealworms because they are bigger and fill up your leopard gecko more easily so they don’t have to eat like 20 of them. Also their keratin exoskeleton is less thick and more easy to digest. But yes variety is the best option.
I suggest if he’s picky just stick to that. And maybe one day try to get him to like new things Like offer a different kind of food. But also, instead of feeling like 10 mealworms to your leopard gecko feed super worms which are healthier and easy to digest.
@@Onionair22nd super worms are high in fat and therefore not a healthy staple, they should only be fed occasionally. If fed too often the green will become overweight, if not obese.
Im sorry but can i just feed my leopard gecko mealworm? Well thr thing is, cricket are quite hard to keep and they could all die all at once and dubia roaches, i just can't stand them. Mealworm is my only option but if my gecko not seem to eat them i might have to go with dubia roaches. Another question, how many time do i feed them per day?
Mealworms aren’t healthy for their main diet and should make up no more than 25% of their diet. Live crickets, roaches, silkworms, and black soldier fly larvae can be fed regularly. Mealworms, super worms, and hornworms can be fed occasionally. The more variety in their diet, the better. Crickets aren’t too hard to keep. Just give them a decent sized container, veggies, and egg cartons. Feed once daily under six months, every other day between 6-12 months, and 1-2 times a week over a year.
I can understand that. I hate keeping crickets. They suck. They smell, their dirty, loud, hard to catch, and not to mention if they escape. Ugh. I fed my chameleons dubias for a couple months, but they grossed me out. They were very easy to keep and very cheap (if bought online, in stores they’re super expensive). Silkworms are another good staple food, but are pretty expensive. I’ve been considering breeding them, but otherwise I don’t think I’d buy them. Black soldier fly larvae are my favorite. They’re cheap, take up very little space, very nutritious, and don’t move much (which can be taken as a pro or a con). The only downside is that they turn into flys after a few weeks if you don’t keep them at 50 F. This is fine for my chameleons because chameleons love to catch flies.
HI, just wanted to thank you for all the great videos, me and my daugther got the reptile frenzy recently after her pet hamster died of old age. So we have been doing research for the last 3 day like 5 to 6hrs a day on youtube because for us its very important to care well for our animals. We made our choice that a Leopard gecko will be our next guess in our house. Im slowly buying the supplies before we get the Gecko so we have everything we need. We have a local pet shop that specialized in reptile that open recently but I'm torn. all their animals seems healty but some of the information they gave me seems iffy. Like using calcium sand as a substrate when pretty much everybody on the internet says I shouldn't. But I'm also not to keen on getting one at the local big box petco. Whats your take on it. The small pet shop have an amazing looking tangerine baby for 120$can (like 70 pounds) does that sound fair. Anyway thx again for the great info. We subsribed of course.
Awww, it's good you're getting all prepared beforehand. So if there's a baby thats only a few weeks old, it seems healthy (and maybe if they breed their own they can show you the parents), then I think that'll be fine, you don't have to follow their advice, certainly not about the calcium sand :)
Make sure RUclips isn’t your only source of info, there’s lots of misinformation on RUclips. The care guide on the website reptifiles has good information. Where to buy: Avoid chain petstores. Check out reptile expos and Craigslist. Look for reputable local petstores and breeders. Check morph market, just research the breeder before buying. Avoid BHB, underground reptiles, LLL, backwater reptiles, snakes at sunset, and cb reptiles. Aim for smaller hobbyist breeders rather than large scale breeders.
Absolutely! Just make sure they’re not too big for the gecko, they grow very big very quickly. Also don’t feed wild caught hornworms, since they’re toxic after eating tomatoes.
Not necessarily. The fear is that they will eat their way out of the gecko but they are mostly chewed up/dead by the time they make it to the stomach and even if not, stomach acids do them in quickly
New to the channel. Great Videos!! So far they have helped me out with my Gecko that was left on my door step to say. One question, Do you ever show your face???
Aw thank you :) It was left on your door step :O And no I don't, there's like the odd pic of my on instagram, but I prefer to keep my geckos as the main focus :)
@@leopardgeckotalk I know I see this on one of your videos but on the UVB light for a leopard gecko, is a 5% 26 watt UVB ok? That is the only thing I am confused on. Right now I have a 10% 13 watt uvb light for my little buddy "Bob".
I got my first leopard gecko a few months back, don't worry I have done much research, and he has grown quite a bit. Although I feed him a good diet of a cricket or two with a few meal worms and the same with dubia roaches but I would really like to know if that is a good diet for his growing stages, (he is about four or five months old at this point). I do supplement with calcium powder that doesn't have D3 and a vitamin powder with his food. I just would like to know if there is anything else I should feed for his growing body. Also, his belly is growing chubby and his tail is a nice size, am I over feeding him possibly? I feed him every other day.
Keep in mind that mealworms aren’t healthy for their main diet and should make up no more than 25% of their diet. You can feed him small silkworms and black soldier fly larvae. You can also feed him occasional super worms and hornworms if you can find ones small enough. The more variety in their diet, the better. Do your multivitamins contain d3? Also, what’s your dusting schedule?
@@Elena-jj6eb I usually recommend the same thing (daily under six months, every other day between 6-12 months). But the Leopard Gecko - Advancing Husbandry group (a group that goes off of factual, scientific evidence and up to date info) recommends feeding every other day from 4-6 months. And it sounds like this person’s gecko is at a healthy weight. So I don’t think they need to feed more often.
@@nightinggale6470 ah ok, I probably didn’t make it clear, I was more saying it because they asked if they’re overfeeding. What I meant was that under 6 month babies are recommended to be fed every day, so they’re not overfeeding anyway.

As long as he isn’t losing a significant amount of weight I wouldn’t worry too much. What’s his hot spot temperature and how is it being measured? What heat source are you using?
@@nightinggale6470 His hot spot temperature is 89 and I use a a laser heat gun to measure. His heat mat is regulated with a thermostat . He has a cool hide and a humid hide along with the hide that is on his hot spot.
@@marciacoco9549 ok. Bump the hot spot up to 92-95. Heat mats aren’t a good heat source. A halogen flood bulb connected to a dimmer/dimming thermostat is the most natural and beneficial option, Arcadia’s deep heat projector is the second best option. They produce IRA and IRB like the sun, heat that penetrates deep into the skin tissue and heats them far more effectively than heat mats. Whereas heat mats only produce IRC, which only heats the surface of their skin. Once you bump up the hot spot temperature and get a better heat source he will likely start eating more.
@@nightinggale6470 Hi thank you so much. I forgot to mention that I do have a ceramic heating lamp above the hot side of his tank. I have heard of the deep heat projectors. I hope someone can answer my question. Otherwise i have to cancel the idea on getting a gecko..
Leopard geckos only eat live insects. Crested geckos eat mainly Pangea/Repashy (a powdered diet), and can technically survive without insects, but they really should be given live insects 1-2 times a week to thrive.
So I have a question ( pls reply). I am getting a Leo soon, so I have been doing research. I am getting a baby. On my list of things to buy I have: soldier fly larva. horn worms, wax worms (on occasion) crickets, mealworms. How often to I feed each of these to my Leo? are there some to avoid feeding too much? Question I’m kinda afraid of bugs could I use tweezers to pick up the bugs or something like that
Yes, you can use tongs.
It’s crazy because my gecko is a month or so older than Maui (he officially weighs 51g yay!!!) but they’re the EXACT SAME morph so it’s very cool to watch him grow up as it is to watch mine!
Can u please please please do a video about the Hibernation and how u do it? 🙏
What is the bug in the caption?
Minnie is a looovely colour 🥰
My gecko is about the age of Maui but a smaller is there any way to speed up growth?
What’s their diet? As long as they look healthy I wouldn’t worry about them being small, every individual grows at a different pace.
How big is maui
How many crickets are you feeding maui per day?
What feeder would you recommend best for leopard geckos and baby crested geckos?
For leopard geckos: Live crickets, roaches, locusts, silkworms, and black soldier fly larvae can be fed regularly. Mealworms, super worms, and hornworms can be fed occasionally. The more variety in their diet, the better.
For baby crested geckos: You can feed small crickets, roaches, silkworms, and black soldier fly larvae. They can have small hornworms once they’re big enough (hornworms get very big, very quickly).
@@nightinggale6470 Thank you so much! Very helpful!💚
Minnie! you doughnut! lol
can you do a video like this but for lyra and drogo? talking about staple insects, treats, variety, etc while also feeding them?
Can gecko eat chicken raw meat? Cricket is a little bit expensive
I want to get into geckos or want to own one but im bit worry about the heat and the food and stuff. and how offen to feeding it
dude you totally should, just do enough research before you get one, as long as your changing lightbulbs once they go out thats all good for heat, and my gecko is on a diet of only crickets, mealworms and such can make them sick if they have too many, its like equivalent to a human eating a cupcake basically, but they’re good for little treats!! and for young leopard geckos your gonna wanna feed them every single day, but once their older you should start feeding them like twice a week. i feed mine on monday and thursday :) im still a first time gecko owner and its awesome having one!!
Are you dusting your food?
Hey do you know of any good breether in the US by any chance
I don’t know any specific good breeders, but check morph market, just research the breeder before buying. Avoid BHB, underground reptiles, LLL, backwater reptiles, snakes at sunset, and cb reptiles. Aim for smaller hobbyist breeders rather than large scale breeders. You can also check Craigslist, there are many geckos that need good homes (just make sure they’re healthy).
Hello! What substrate do you use for your mealworms?
I recommend using soil. Or, if you want something they can eat, pollard or mill run. Oats and wheat bran contain phytic acid, which binds calcium.
Can a wax moth larva be its main diet?
Okay so I know this isn’t a crested gecko video, but I was thinking about getting one and I want to know why your food can’t contain synthetic d3 if you are providing uv lighting? Will something bad happen?
Providing both artificial d3 and UVB risks overdosing them.
@@nightinggale6470 Oh okay thanks!
My gecko also does the same thing where he eats 2 superworms then doesn’t want anymore
Can I use Dubia roaches?
My crested gecko is seriously underweight I’ve fed him waxworms crickets everything and he hasn’t gained any weight he seems ok as he’s very active. Can you please help?
Give him Pangea/Repashy and keep feeding him healthy feeders. Waxworms shouldn’t be used for weight gain. Is he currently losing weight?
I didn’t know
How much to give them so I had crickets loose in there habitat. I’ll give them spaced out feedings
What’s your feeding schedule? I have one albino gecko that I tong feed (he has bad eyesight) mealworms on mondays and thursdays. I usually feed 10 mealworms. I feed crickets and super worms occasionally because he’s very picky
Mealworms aren’t the healthiest staple. I’d feed mainly crickets, roaches, or silkworms.
I was always curious can my gecko eat raw meat? In very small chunks
No.
I cleaned my geckos cage and changed the substrate. Is it normal for him to be a little stressed when getting back into his cage?
Yes.
Is it ok to feed them horn worms (also known as tomato worms)?
Absolutely! Just make sure they’re not too big for the gecko, they grow very big very quickly. Also don’t feed wild caught hornworms, since they’re toxic after eating tomatoes.
I was wondering what species of crickets you use? Because I don't know what ones are silent. Thanks!
Only winged males chirp, so technically the females and immature individuals of all species are silent.
@@nightinggale6470 thank you!
I've heard you're supposed to cut the heads off superworms before feeding. Have you ever had digestive problems with them?
Not necessarily. The fear is that they will eat their way out of the gecko but they are mostly chewed up/dead by the time they make it to the stomach and even if not, stomach acids do them in quickly
New to the channel. Great Videos!! So far they have helped me out with my Gecko that was left on my door step to say. One question, Do you ever show your face???
Aw thank you :) It was left on your door step :O
And no I don't, there's like the odd pic of my on instagram, but I prefer to keep my geckos as the main focus :)
@@leopardgeckotalk I know I see this on one of your videos but on the UVB light for a leopard gecko, is a 5% 26 watt UVB ok? That is the only thing I am confused on. Right now I have a 10% 13 watt uvb light for my little buddy "Bob".
@@jim3148she never answered your question :( oof
Babies under 6 months should be fed every day, every other day after that :)
@Miss Squiggles But also, if you’re worried (not that it sounds you should be), maybe weigh every week or so? I like to weigh my baby each week, to monitor her health and to see if she’s gaining weight
Hi new sub here. I have been watching your videos a lot for research. We just rescued a leopard gecko from my Veterinary clinic and I will be adopting her ( I think it's a she, but I can always check). I wanted to know are insects the main diet for these geckos?
Should I be adding anything else for food? Also, I noticed the mil worms had white powder, is that calcium?
Hi my leopard gecko who is ate years old and he hardly eats anything. I had him to the veterinarian a few weeks ago and the doctor said he’s healthy weighing 55 grams. He will eat Dubai roaches once in a while , he doesn’t like crickets and turns his nose up at meal worms. What should I do ? Thanks
I will bump up the heat mat temperature, would that be ok ? I’m also wondering if he’s thinking that he’s going to get wax worms all the time. He eats those but I don’t give him those to often. He is still snubbing the meal worms and ate 1 roach the other day ugh. Any other advise would be helpful 😊
@@marciacoco9549 ceramic heat emitters and heat mats only produce IRC and aren’t good primary heat sources, I strongly recommend switching to a halogen flood bulb connected to a dimmer/dimming thermostat, or at least a DHP. I also wouldn’t give him any more waxworms
I'm a 62 year old grown man and consider myself rather manly...however....I'm terrified by handling insects! You are my hero!!
I'm planning on getting a gecko but my mum won't allow to have alive animals to feed at home... are there any otver options to feed to geckos or is it a bad idea to give them other food than alive insects? I hope someone can answer my question. Otherwise i have to cancel the idea on getting a gecko..
Leopard geckos only eat live insects. Crested geckos eat mainly Pangea/Repashy (a powdered diet), and can technically survive without insects, but they really should be given live insects 1-2 times a week to thrive.
I put my crickets in a 10Gallon tank and they live way longer with egg crates stacked on the sides:
So I have a question ( pls reply). I am getting a Leo soon, so I have been doing research. I am getting a baby.
