- Frank Rains of Chattanooga can repeat whatever anyone says almost simultaneously. A linguist, Miss Christiansen, appears and speaks in several foreign languages, which he also can repeat. Carol Burnett substitutes for Betsy Palmer.

I do this in the mirror and I can keep right up with myself no matter how fast I talk.
That's impressive
The fact that he can do it without looking at the person speaking is amazing.
He does it by listening, not sight
This is one of the most astounding things I've ever seen. What a hoot : )
There's another one of these with a young woman who speaks each English word backwards. They had a translator who speaks Finnish translate the questions into Finish, but the woman, who understood the questions just fine, was answering in the backwards talk.
This is truly amazing. How have we lost this incredible talent from shows and such?
It was a pleasure to have personally known this gentleman and taught his wonderful daughter, Angie!
How does this work? In vague terms
That is cool.
Do they train they're whole life for it?
I'm surprised that he didn't have twin daughters.
@@EtzEchad One born a split second after the other.
Frank Rains is still with us, I believe. He turned 90 this year.
Really? I didn’t know anyone was still alive from this time besides Bob Newhart lmao
HOLAY MOLAY
@@byHexted Carol Burnett is still alive.
I miss these wholesome talents that we used to showcase.
I never knew Carol Burnett was such a classy little hottie in her younger years. Wow, what a knockout!
Frank Rains was real and he was AMAZING. He of course is not speaking 'simultaneously' but the ear blends the sounds for us so that the tiny gap (which can be found on sophisticated recording equipment) vanishes. He was a popular act in the Army during the Korean War in Special Services and an all around great guy.
Carol Burnett was SO young and pretty! She has always had a stunning figure.
I always thought Bess was one of the most beautiful women of the era, and she was. She was the first Jewish Miss America. Elegant. Just lovely.
Despite the fact that this occurred 60 years ago, why isn't this guy still famous (even if only by history) and known to us all. He had a unique and amazing ability. He is perceptibly slower on languages other than English, but otherwise he does it so well it sounds like delay slap-back.
Nobody amazed me like this!
Carol Burnett's natural Texas accent was very apparent here!
I didn’t know that she was a Texan.
not sure why Garry said no...carol was right, she just didn't know the technical term for it.
nowvoyage-i agree with you.. in any case--she ,had the basic idea
Yeah, sometimes I suspect Gary just wanted to give them the money.
She asked if it had to do with the tempo, which it doesn't. I think you were correct on what she meant to say because she nodded her head when he started doing it but knowing and saying are not the same thing.
I think he was just confused himself about what she meant.
Could you blame him? haha
That was insane! What an odd yet fantastic talent.
Just watched Frank Rains on Johnny Carson ‘s Tonight show. Amazing!!
Completely for real!
Omg, imagine having the first guy as a brother when you were a child...
This is an amazing skill I’ve never heard of before. Best of the many clips I’ve watched from this skill.
Wow!! This is the craziest talent I ever witnessed!!
Mr. Reverb, he should have been called. Thanks for the post.
I saw this program 53 years ago and tried "simultaneous talking" myself. I could do it quite well (but not as well as this guy)....But It bothered people so much that I seldom did it.
@Just a Girl found the keyboard warrior
😂
@Just a Girl Damm Damm you you rude rude
@Branchporter That’s awesome.
That was amazing! I really wonder how he does that. It is faster than the reaction speed of most humans.
This is insanely impressive I can’t even keep up with myself
I thought this would be a let down but he really was pretty amazing.
Soo much more impressive than anything on tik tok or any of the mainstream social media right now... Astounding Just Astounding ...
With this guy, you could start an endless loop with "I know you are, but what am I?"
🤣🤣🤣👏👏👏 that guy is very good
He’s quite handsome too!
My goodness! Both Bess Myerson and Carol Burnett were ravishingly beautiful. I was too young to notice this growing up watching these shows.
I didn't know that talent existed.
Fascinating! Great sense of humor, too.
Amazing talent!
It's interesting looking back 60 years to see that of the five celerity's of that era, only one, Carol Burnett, probably still has some recognition. Fame is so fleeting. Other than old film fans how many people know about or could recognize John Bunny, Flora Finch, Helen Twelvetrees, etc. of that earlier era of 60 years before this show? Fame IS so fleeting.
This is impressive even after knowing how he does it
I'm 13 and I absolutely love this!
ILoveCarolBurnett I'm 12 beat ya
This madman do be 22 now 😳
This guy attends my church in springfield Tenn .He is in his late 80's i believe.
Did he do this for a living? Not sure how he could turn this incredible talent into a profession.
I guess the sermons are in stereo!
Wow, I wonder if his wife ever gets the last word.
😂
AMAZING.....
WOW!!! How cool is that!!!!
If he spoke other languages, he could be a fine simultaneous interpreter.
I love the fact carol was speaking in riddles ahah she’s the best and carol basically got it she just didn’t say the correct thing
Amazing!
But if I had to be around him regularly, I'd definitely be an avid consumer of the sponsor's product: Bufferin.
That's amazing..freaky..but amazing!
I did not know something like this ability existed. Incredible.
this guy would DRIVE ME NUT!!
Well, I've never seen anything like this before !
Incredible
I so wish I could do that. It would be impossible to lose an argument, and it would be such an elite way to troll annoying people.
That's too funny!
This would have been a great gag on the Carol Burnett show.
The sound strikes our ears as being bigger and louder than just two people talking. Our brains are processing two very similar sounds that are milliseconds out of phase. This is the same technique applied to mono recordings to give them an artificial impression of stereo. In a concert hall, the reflections off the walls, which arrive milliseconds after the direct sound, also greatly alters the quality of the sound.
How could Henry tell that the bandana was red if the show was in black and white?
I think it was b/w for the viewer. Morgan was there in the same room, so he saw it was red.
I hope at least one of you is trolling. Otherwise, it's proof our educational system has failed us terribly.
No, the world was in black & white back then. even color photos are black & white, then the world turned kinda yellow, then color in the 60s. ...you don't need school to have common sense, Poor Finian, I'm sorry you're American. I pity you. :/
🤣🤣🤣
I hope you are joking. Did he think the world was all black and white back then. :-)
I just saw this cause I was watching the show. An how in the world does he do that? I came online hoping someone would know. Lol incredible
I practice this at work while I'm alone & listening to my headphones haha. I'm going to annoy EVERYONE MU-WAHAHA!!
My goodness. Mein Gott! Mon Dieu! He's amazing.
He was born on the planet Fringus, which is exactly 2 seconds ahead of Earth time. He's actually speaking a couple of words behind the speaker, but his Fringian brain makes it appear he's speaking at the same time. You got a better explanation???
Hilarious!
I bet he drove his parents nuts.
he was the first speech jammer!
And the military just created one too.
neat talent
If I were the one with the cloth in MY mouth, I'd be gagging.
This is totally normal to me. I'm a simultaneous interpreter and I can do this between two languages. There might be a slightly longer lag when interpreting into another language, but sometimes I can almost get ahead of the person because of anticipation and context. Just shadowing the language ends up being exactly like he did. I was shocked to see many people can't do this in just one language.
That's amazing!
I used to do this when my child was very young. As they got older, they were harder to predict and I couldn't do it anymore.
I found the article about Frank N. Rains and his Simultaneous talking and it is just as it appears. There are no tricks. He has a special gift. RUclips would not let me put to URL up here. Go to Gadsden Times- January 30, 1977- "Area Native has amazing gift"- Frank N. Rains.
I think the trick and secret is that he has to hear just the very first sound of a word, and he knows what it is, lightning quick. He is probably the reason someone invented echo and reverb. LOL
The newspaper article about Fran N. Rains is hidden. Type in Frank Rains- Simultaneous Talker. Then look down to where it says: Frank Rains- Simultaneous Talker- Michael-Family Friends. THEN GO to the link right below it where it says: "ItIA. Strange World-Area Native has Amazing Gift. The article is THERE!
"No matter what I say - Shut up, will you!"
😆
I use to do this in highschool, the trick is to say it as soon as you hear it, there is a delay but it's not that noticeable.
@ Generation. Yeah and the secret to winning the 100M dash at the olympics is to get to the finish line before anyone else in the race
This is the youngest clip of Carol Barnett I have ever seen but that 1st question she asked was all Carol. 😂😂😂
I believe I saw this guy on The Mike Douglas Show about 15 years later.
@TheMrsProductions Yes, that's the one with Jane Russell. Is there one particular portion of that episode you are interested in?
@TheMrsProductions I will get to it soon, along with a few other requests I have in my queue that I'm about to start on.
Would definitely drive you crazy
I practice this when i listen to my iPod lol
Carol got it right.
I recognized 'little house' from the Danish woman; my dad says that in Swedish 'wee huse'
This is The POWER Of GOD!!!
No way was it stunt. I don't think they had the technology back then to trick people, not like that. The man just happened to have a freakish talent for language.
This is the most annoying and the greatest talent there is.
Pretty cool skill, but I don't know how useful it is! Fun to watch though 🙂
LOL the Subtitles, closed caption couldn't keep up, in fact probably gave up following this chatter one over the other. Rendered YT's CC clueless! haha
I found this to be wonderful but toooooo unbelievable. I Googled it-- it is not aware of it either. I believe this man soooo could it be something “mental”; ESP type of a thing??
This is something I myself have been able to do in years past
I could do this -- with Harpo Marx.
@@brianarbenz7206 hahaha
He is off by 1/4 a second
I used to piss off my little brother by doing that to him. I couldn't quite do it THAT well, but I did it to him alot, when we were kids. I had actually forgotten all about it.
This guy would make the perfect court reporter using the Mask, where you repeat everything you hear onto a tape recorder through a mask. The mask , of course, prevents others from hearing you speak.
Henry morgan was a piece if work
ALWAYS annoying. I never liked anything about him.
This gave me a headache..LOL
The original troll
This guys has the lowest audio roundtrip latency ever.
🤣🤣🤣
I think what his guy has is called Echolalia. A form of autisim.
That’s not echolalia. Look it up and you’ll see.
Tape Face :-D
Extremely talented but it gets irritating after a minute or so,
That is not real. They rehearsed. NO ONE can predict what the guy next to him is going to say.
@Thomas Freeman Lookup Uri Gueller
@Thomas Freeman You COULD be right but I am not buying anything. Frauds are everywhere.
If you notice the echo, it’s because it’s not simultaneous but a second or so behind! Still an an amazing talent.
Ms. "Christensen" was actually German, but in the post-war 50s, they were ashamed to admit it, so they would make themselves pass for other nationalities that had similar aaccets in English and were indistinguishable to the American ear, such as Danish or Swedish, Swiss or Dutch, who were neutral or allied during WWII. Speaking multiple languages was another way to blur out their identity. Many tried to be chameleons. It is a mark to this day.
This reminds me of the Doctor Who episode, "Midnight".

Bill Cullen, father of Jason Borne.
Can't quite figure out how he could make a living off of this, but I bet people paid good money to make him shut up.
Too bad this fellow is not around anymore, h'ed drive Oblamo nuts.
What a moronic comment, and Oblamo? Are you 7?
Reminds me of this episode of modern Doctor Who:
ruclips.net/video/kJUzWhpBEJw/видео.html
Does this man have thoughts of his own? I also wonder how old he was when he started doing this?
I think this was just a stunt by the audio engineers for this to be so.Frank Rains appears to be a find actor but forever the 'echo' whenever he speaks.....is suspicious.
Uh huh, and the Earth is flat, right?
