HP has been making big moves in the 14" laptop scene and their new Spectre X360 and OMEN Transcend laptops prove that they're getting pretty good at it. With an OLED screen, big batteries, refined designs, and a lot of power, Alex is here to open them up to see how they made it all fit.

We received some new info from HP after CES about the Omen Transcend 14: The $2000 price is for the configuration we had at CES and the actual starting price is $1499. Also, the construction is aluminum with a sandblasted anodized finish.
A $50 upcharge from 16gb to 32gb of ram on the spectre 14 is insanely refreshing. Great to see soldered ram isn’t so much of a downside here.
and apple is asking $400 for it lmfao
The funny thing is, they're still making good margin on that price when using soldered RAM. I don't mean they're overcharging, but that it's *still* at a quarter the price of competitors a good money maker for HP. Just puts into perspective how extortionate Apple and Dell are. 50 is reasonable.
@@idontmindu you should see dell later lol
And it's good RAM too at that. Insane speeds. 32GB of this and you will probably never need to upgrade in the life of this laptop. I doubt you will ever need more RAM on a 14" thin and light anyway. This is soldered RAM that finally doesn't get me mad.
@@azenyr It's the best RAM you can currently get i believe, they obviously optimized the trace lengths to get that speed. At any rate it's easily superior to what apple is charging 4x the price for. They're using the same BGA's they did in 2021/2020
*new HP Omen exists in that beautiful white colour*
Dave2D: heavy breathing
Now, where are you @Dave2D
"100% DCI P3 is kinda expected on a business laptop..." Holy crap, we've come a long way in only a couple of years. Awesome.
Same thoughts here. For creator and UX/UI designers, I get 100% DCI P3. For accountants or analysts... ?
@@akin242002a lot of the users in my company work with tons of product samples and pages and they definitely would benefit from accurate displays
@@akin242002I mean if the screne spec is easy enough to hit with the panel tech there's no reason not to 🤷♂️
CES Staff: "There is a party starting!" Alex: "I'll be in the closet over there..."
😢😂
Alex is doing something he considers to be a better party😂😂
I liked the 45° angle ports on that laptop. Needs to become a common feature on all modern laptops.
There has to be at least one artist at Linus media group who could chime in with *some* sort of info on the touch screen/tablet mode/pen support other than "I don't care"
It's a 2-in-1, completely bypassing the tablet mode is like reviewing a gaming rig and saying "it's got a graphics card or something, I don't know. It will definitely run League of Legends."
They've never really covered tablets much TBH, so this is just an extension of that. On one hand, I suppose it could be worth having someone to specialize in covering those sorts of devices; on the other hand, that segment just seems to move at a glacial pace compared to the rest of the industry.
@@RyTrapp0 I don't think it's fair to say that digital art has moved at a glacial pace, it's just been separate for a long time with companies like wacom. I can see that kind of stuff being too specialized. But when main stream 2-in-1s are starting to enter into that space, being shipped with pens and advertised for digital art, I think it's worth touching on.
Obviously this video had limited access and only one person to look at specs and do a brief first impression, I'm just complaining in the comments that I would like to see more said about those kind of art features when companies present them. I know LTT group reads their comments.
Fun review, surprised they let you crack it open. Thanks HP.
Holy shit that omen has a 90W RTX 4070 despite being so thin blows my mind. I guess we need a follow up testing for that one. Anyways damn that's one hella crazy thing!
Yea, HP always seems to screw up providing as much power to components as advertised.
it's actually 80 W, it goes up to 95 with dynamic boots. Still amazing tho
@@pegatrisedmice doubt it can sustain 80W with that cooling
My 2020 omen 15 has an 100 w rtx 2060 but with open hw monitor I see it go to 108 w
Other 14" gaming laptops (at least in the same price segment) have 100+ W TGP for GPU, and they're not much thicker (like 1-3mm at best) so I wouldn't consider impressive. They're more likely limited on this Omen because of that 140W charger (Power Deliver 3.1 only)
Great lineup. Much improved
The fact that they are offering two USB A's is such a win
Gonna be keeping an eye out for your review!
Those screens are wobblin’ with him barely even touching the base. 😮
The 45 degree corner port is great because you can break your charger off from two different directions!
😂
😂😂
seems to make sense for the 360 convertible design which looks thin and llght enough to hold.
At what point do we just have magnetic connectors already? I often think that people overreact when design flaws come up with products and many claim that it's 'planned obsolescence'(I mean, that is a thing, just not like many seem to think), I whole heartedly believe that 'Hanlon's Razor' is the answer more often than not. But I'll be damned if laptop charging ports aren't planned obsolescence, we can't get an ounce of R&D in THIS area lmao.
DC barrel jacks are the work of the devil
@@RyTrapp0 after September 26, 2025 when Apple's patent expires.
I really like the new Spectre x360. Did HP finally come to its senses? They even put back the right Ctrl key, and not the stupid copilot key.
Love Alex laptop videos. My favorites on the channel
Awesome hat, love the trucks
I have an old version of the Spectre and I love it even at five years old!
Laptops are exciting again. I hope they improve the dragonfly as well, love that machine.
Pretty hype for some 14 gaming laptops with dgpu that is pure USB c pd for power. I liked my g14 but the power brick charger does make the overall backpack space more than you'd think. Can't wait to see how it compares with other 4060 4070 laptops.
When I had a G14 I set up an 90W power limit profile in G-Helper for 100W type-C gaming. 25W CPU limit and 65W GPU limit with the screen capped at 60hz to save some power on the panel. Sure, not as fast as the full 85W CPU and 105W GPU, but it was still better than the iGPU-only I had set up on battery with a 15W cap (basically converts to 6900HS to 6800U).
I bought the 240 W SlimQ charger with the asus adapter for my g14, definitely more portable than the oem charger
Huge improvements from hp. Theyve bbeen behind for the last 2-3 years. Love to see it.
That Omen 14 is looking nice. Looking to switch my desktop rig into a smaller 14 inch laptop this year. G14 or Omen...
Did HP happen to have any inkjet printers for 2024 without dynamic security in their booth?
I don't see myself buying any hp product because of that scumbag move
At such a light weight already, I am happy to see the choice for an aluminum chasis.
Gonna start a drinking game: every time Alex says "Absolutely Fantastic" you take a shot! I always love the enthusiasm and energy he brings!
How did crab rave sound on the spectre? Did you check? The speakers are a weak point on the 2023 spectre, but it's otherwise really good (compared to the old diamond cut models).
All of them look sweet but that Omen looks soooo good
Love the Edison hat. That mean you guys are going to go do a video about a hybrid diesel logging truck?
If they're available now how don't we have the full pricing?
Love the Edison motors hat. :D
The omen looks very interesting indeed, i hope you guys will check it out soon
Love the Edison Motors cap.
Is the 32 GB RAM in Dual Channel mode running?
Alex is the embodiment of Chaotic Good.
Does the HP omen have the haptic touchpad? Also thank you for being the 1st reviewer i have seen that mention that the omen 14 doesnt have a touchscreen.
Do more 15 or 16-inchers have vapor chambers this year?
Cuz I swear with the help of a vapor chamber the larger SKUs could sustain 115-125W to the GPU with an 85-99Wh battery while keeping the weight down to 2kg or less.
Sporting the Edison Motors merch, respect
Those guys are a lot of fun. I love the idea and look of the trucks too.
Hey this is Alex, today I'm at CES taking a look at new Vapor Chambers with laptops attached to them.
Nice to see they've gone back to removable wifi card on the Spectre x360. We dropped Spectre (and HP) from our org after using them for 5 years... because they soldered in the wifi cards on the last models we used. Manufactured e-waste stuck in wifi 5 land.
that hp omen transcend 14 is probably the best looking 14in gaming laptop I've seen till date
The inside cooling system looks decent.
Is there any information about new HP Dragonfly or Elitebook Laptops with Intel Core Ultra or Ryzen 8000?
Has hp fixed the self destruction on the x360 where the mossfets get so hot they weld themselves to the first layer of the board?
I’ve also never seen a brand with more spicy pillows and hinges that end up so loose they fall in half after a couple years.
These are great for us that need to use a laptop daily now.
You said one of the best for Omen, so which one us the best 14 inch laptop
Really interested on the spectre 16 😊
I have discovered new hobby of watching CES products I can't afford.
Hy. What is the bes but not spency motherboatd for amd 5600g? Thx
currently have the 2021 model of spectre x360 and i use it with an egpu, the 16 gb of ram has been such a bottleneck so if i can get the 3:2 form factor with 32 gb of ram then im sold on a new hp
When is it going to be available for Europe?
I've had my Omen 17 for several years now and sitting away from it right now I cannot even remember if it has a trackpad. I know it must but honestly have not used it in years.
No backlit keys tho, i always really like that
I'd really appreciate it if the editors added SI numbers when the hosts use USCU (or when they combine SI and USCU).
How many nits on the omen?
Omg
They figured out USB A can fit!
Any 2in1 detached keyboard style in HP ???
Isn't the HP Spectre 16 just a slightly larger XPS 15?
HP does pretty good with laptop keyboards
man HP has really turned it around.
My thoughts exactly. Omens after 2020 and especially after this year have been pretty damn good
HP laptops have turned around. Printers are just as consumer hostile as ever.
I hate that HP locks down drivers for the keyboard and fingerprint reader. I really like my spectre 14 but it gets hot on windows so I run lunux now. Why can't I have a working keyword HP?
Also, they removed an option to charge the battery to 80% some time ago. I paid good money for the laptop and I want that feature.
I wish to see a HP Omen 14 vs Asus Zenbook gaming battle showdown. Heck maybe drop in the Alien and others to see a smart formfactor gaming laptop battle this year!
Nice to see 32gb ram options as but I can't buy without full size HDMI port
Nice HP!
THIS GUY NEEDS MORE SCREEN TIME. ONE OF THE BEST. LIKE A LIKABLE LUCUS
I love your hat, perfect! 😂
How does it compete with m3?
@ShortCircuit Why don’t you guys review HP's Victus gaming laptops?
Whats the best 13-14" 2in1 laptop in 2024 with Meteor Lake in your opinion?
Damn i got to know about the spectre from this video and i didn't know such a good laptop existed on the windows side and that from hp? It's truly funny. I want to know if there's any previous owners of the spectre in the comments is the laptop good are there any issues?
ram soldered ?
The same day as NorthridgeFix released a video called "HP X360 Spectre laptops - They Just Die"...
Damn your yt account is almost as old as me
@@crazya8038 - ah! erm.. well.. don't give up? you'll be old too. someday.
Can you charge the spectre via USB?
They look nice , but there are many 13 and 14 inch machines that are nice daily drivers.
10:44
It actually starts at 1499$ for the base model transcended 14
HP just upgraded their quality. Love that... But still HP, remove any software... Please... I had to downgrade my HP to W10 because there was one driver feature bugged in W11... And my laptop came out 1 year before W11... (and that issue is related to tablet mode for a 2in1 laptop and also modern standby... For this laptop it is a nightmare on W11... Also their AMD support... Really a nightmare...)
Why would you want your headphone cord going away at a 45 degree angle tho? Should have been another thunderbolt for display out
From whatever videos I have seen Zeyphrus G14 looks the best. Some youtuber tested G14 OLED screen can touch 800 nits peak HDR brightness can't remember the window size though. It has great speakers also and full RGB keyboard. When are you showing us ?
The only this window need now is battery efficient like mac but the built is fantastic.
This is my next laptop. Transcend
My worry is that 140 watts over a thin USB C cable is kinda dodgy. especially after lots of insertions and removals in the not too distant future?
Still no news of Snapdragon X Elite laptops?
X Elite is already DOA.
6:53 i thought those are usb2 since they are black :D but they do have the ss logo next to them, phew
How about review on hp zbook fury 16 G10 laptop. It lists for us$9063!
my old hp elitebook 840 g5 also had 120 Hz screen. In a business machine from 2018, sooo...Innovation?
I'm just waiting for laptops with Frore cooling.
Cool !
can we get matte displays back please
I really like the new laptops hp has been making. I'm still using my dv7 from 2011, everything still works including the battery somehow.
Be honest, you might “use” the DV7 sometimes but what computer do you actually use?
Because this comment implies you use your dv7 as your main computer which… yeah no way. I call bs.
@@BahhBahhBrownSheep outside my phone it's the dv7, it's literally on my coffee table right now. To be fair i am in the process of piecing together a PC right now. The dv7 still works great, specifically mines the dv7-6b56nr, upgraded to Windows 10 with the only casualty being I lost my fingerprint reader. Still get 3 hours out of the battery.
Omen transcend 14 ultra 7 white rtx 4050 has became my dream laptop.
You're not sure about the 16's price yet it's available now? Huh?
fingerprint on the power button seems kinda sketchy
People who were thinking of abandoning windows to get an apple silicone Mac have a lifeline now.
Nice to see the MacBooks no longer have a monopoly on well rounded hardware (build quality, screen, speakers, sensible io, sensible and quick specs).
Wow, the windows laptops have had a revolution with trackpad sizes lately.
Please make a tutorial on the new Intel Naming scheme. PLEASE
I am confused
Why? It's basically the same performance, anyway. Unless you count the GPU. That's gone from "can't do sh*t" to "roll the dice if it works".
Hyper X headphone bundle... Does this mean that built-in speakers are not as good? I love listening to audiobooks and podcasts in bed before I fall asleep. Any headphones in this situation are uncomfortable. This could be a dealbreaker to me if the built-in speakers are below average. Could you, please, clarify this in your future review?
Goodies for the one percent
Is Be Quiet better than Noctua?
Force touch? On a Windows laptop? Color me interested indeed!
Ain't no Legion but it's alright. Looks good. We'll see how it performs.
Me who has an hp laptop: ooo another laptop that only gets 5 hrs of battery life. Me want
