The/My understanding of Quran telling the people of the book to be judged by their own scriptures, is for the reason that Islam is being respectful and fair to non-muslim (people of book) and if there is no specific punishment then Quran will be the criterion (its like Allah is giving them Dawah to search for the truth within their own book and come back to Quran). Just like Bani Quraida who taught that their book may be more merciful and chose to be punished according to it and later found the punishment is beheading according to their book and suffered their own faith.
Quran 5:47 "And let the People of the Gospel judge by what Allah has revealed therein. And whoever does not judge by what Allah has revealed - then it is those who are the defiantly disobedient." That verse only makes sense if there is a book to be followed

I think muslims choose to not think when it comes to religion. You guys say gospels because there is 4 authors but the Quran has so many authors but yet no one says there is more than 1 Quran.
