For anyone interested in getting their hands on this, I just sent a request to Grizzly tech support. They asked for my planer serial number and shipped me the kit for free.

Nice to hear an equipment manufacturer listens to the people who use stuff on improving the products. Nice vid on doing the repair.

Thanks for this follow-up video. I saw your original video when I was deciding to buy the G0891 planner and still decided to get it. I hoped I would not experience this issue, but I did. I've just been living with the issue, but after seeing your video today I called Grizzly and they are shipping the kit for free. Once again thank you, your video really helped.

They now manufacture this model to include the idler assembly they are sending you. Glad the video helped.

Excellent video and presentation on both the review and the feed roller fix. Very helpful . Thanks.

Thanks so much for the video series. I eventually also had the same problem after adjusting the feed rollers. I install the idler and tightened the chain like shown and then I had an issue with installing the cover after installing idler. If I tighten the chain too much then I couldn't get the cover on, so I had to settle for minimal adjustment. Hope it works. Again thanks for the videos.

Thanks for the detailed video. I am downsizing from a commercial machine and would like to buy a good quality 15 inch planer. Don’t wanna spend a bunch of money on something that’s fundamentally badly made, but this looks like it should fit my needs. Again, thanks.

Glad you cared enough to suggest a fix and glad Grizzly made the effort to actually attempt to solve the issue. Is this chain a standard size that's easily available in the US? Or is it some metric size?

I honestly don't know. I'd call Grizzly tech support for that question.

Thanks for sharing all this information. After a few years are you still satisfied with this planer. I'm considering the 0891 and the next step up that has a different helical cutter and steel feed rollers. Thanks

Yes, since the feed roller issue was fixed, it has served me well.

Thanks for this video, I’m going to make this fix. Have you had any issues with the headstock rising when making cuts? When making a pass even with only turning the handle an 1/8 of a turn the headstock will rise, you can see the handle turning backwards. We have throughly gone through the machine and spoken with tech support to no avail.

No, I can't say I've experienced that issue. Hope you get it sorted out.

Thanks for the tips, I just bought a jet jwp-15bhh that's just like your grizzly and noticed the amount of slack on my chain. Definitely going to get this for mine. I have mine dialed in pretty well but still getting a little snipe, do you get any? I'm probably getting to particular but it's very minimal

    • @SalemWoodworks
      @SalemWoodworks  3 года назад

I get little to no snipe if I have proper support on the outfeed. Glad you found it helpful.

@@SalemWoodworks thanks for the fast reply! I cannot locate the part with the link, I will try to email them and see if I can get it. As far as the snipe, its really minimal and I have the same cast iron bed extensions as you and set dead level, I also use a jointer to flatten before I plane. I was just curious.

      Glenn,
I have a 1980s Grizzly 15 planer, which is very similar to their current iterations. With the machine set to specs there is still light snipe as the end of the board exits the planer.
I have found that if you lift up slightly on the board as it starts to exit the planer, while simultaneously pushing down on the board at the outfeed end as the last of the board exits, the outfeed snipe is eliminated.
