    Games 5 & 6 of the 2004 ECSF nearly left the Pistons for dead, but they've been relegated to a footnote in history. Here's how we almost never heard of the 2004 Detroit Pistons.

    1 it’s wasn’t too physical like the 80s & 90s but wasn’t a lot of foul calls like 10s and now
    2 it wasn’t defense dominant or offense dominated it was pretty equal
    3 it wasn’t the same teams or players in the finals/playoff
    It was too pure basketball and every game even season seemed entertaining and watchable

    If the Nets win a championship in the next year or two, (a big if of course), ESPN should do a 30-for-30 or documentary series on everything that happened with the franchise from 2000 through now. Starting with acquiring Jason Kidd which transformed their image. The two Finals appearances, Vince Carter, Billy King, Mikhail Prokhorov, moving to Brooklyn, the KG/Pierce would-be superteam, having no future, overachieving, then the juggernaut now. Call it "Raising the Nets" or "Nothing but Nets" or whatever. Make Billy King the Jerry Krause of it. No comments from him, just other people's quotes trying to figure him out.

    I'm rewatching the 04 Finals right now, so this video hit at the perfect time. I noticed the announcers kept mentioning how hard Detroit's road to the finals was. Maybe 04 was actually the best Eastern Conference from 02-18? lol. A year with 3 potential teams goign to the finals definatily seems unusual for the Eastern conference during that time span. And Detroit proved yet again the next year that they weren't just a fluke, but an actual competitive team, so it definitely should make people wonder if the Nets and Pacers that yera were more serious threats than we thought? I've always considered the 02 and 03 Nets to be two of the worst finals teams ever, so maybe actually 04 was the best version of them an dthey just got beat by a better team. (a note : the other challenges for worst finals teams are the 07 Cavs, the 18 Cavs, and the 09 Magic. Sorry to people who I like those teams, but their is a reason those teams were either swept or lost in 5 games)

    • @AlligatorArms
      @AlligatorArms 3 года назад

      I’m a Pistons fan and it isn’t necessarily in my best interest to say this, but I believe pretty strongly that both the Nets and Pacers could’ve beaten the Lakers if they were the ones who came out of the East. Especially Indiana, since they would’ve had home court. Just having my eyes glued to every minute of the Pistons’ series with the Nets and Pacers and how hard each team had to fight to score points on those defenses, and then in the finals, just so many easy buckets for the Pistons…it was truly night & day. The Lakers couldn’t call on their defense to win a game. They never could…but they had enough firepower that they seldom had to.

    • @killerfoxes2909
      @killerfoxes2909 3 года назад

      @@AlligatorArms I might have to go back and watch the Pacers and then Nets seires then (if I can find them) once I finish the finals. I guess maybe it makes since, 05 and 06 were also years where the East had multiple contenders (and I would say 2 of the stronger years for the East, with both Detroit and Miami being great teams both years). so you got weak east 01-03, small time period where teh East was a bit better 04-06 (still not as stong as the west though), then super weak east 07-10 (Boston being really...the only good team during this time period), then like semi okay east 11-13ish (with Boston still kind of there, obviously Miami, and Indiana being decent), then outlandishly weak east (i think this was the weakest time) from 14-18 (in which basically Lebron had no competition in the East; and in 18 when he beat a young team who's two best stars were injured in 7 games...that was the highlight of..pathetic east time) then 19-21 east improving again (id saying this most recent time period is the strongest version of the east since jordan retired)

    the beginning statement that they just popped up out of know where, I disagree with. they went through a lot of growing pains the previous few years. 2002 got knocked out by the Paul Pierce and the Celtics in the 2nd Rnd. 2003 they let go of Stackhouse and got Chauncy and Rip Hamilton. They get swept in the ECF by the nets that season. 2004, they get rid of Rick Carlisle who built up the team to where they were, but then hired Larry Brown, then get their final piece in Rasheed Wallace.

    The Nets losing to Pistons that year will never escape my mind😤😞.Rip scoring that shot killed that chance of winning. But goddamn the Pistons were defensive beasts to the core. I still wish Nets were in Jersey.

    The Pistons started to realize how good they were during this series. In this series, they shortened their playbook for the rest of the Larry Brown era.
