That’s the same thing when specifically car dealers hiring now people from same family or friends ( brothers, cousins father/ sons etc. ) they become big group if than they start giving pressure to others to bring more family members. When you keep telling management they ignore you and when I left the company first they start counteroffer which is not work for me. After I left how you like 7 more people left the company . Until now company change 3 GM and service directors managers to fix the mess. I think shop owners should think about this kind of situation also.
Yesterday, I had a conversation with a female shop owner who operates a two-bay gas station. Each time I visit her, she tends to be rather abrupt in our conversations, as if she knows everything. We delved into the topic of the shortage of technicians in the automotive industry and the necessity of caring for the ones we currently employ. To my surprise, she appeared unaware of the situation until I broached the subject. She mentioned having one technician nearing retirement, and when I inquired about her plans when the time comes to replacing him, she admitted she hadn't even considered it until our discussion. From my observation she will have a very hard time replacing him due to that I know everything attitude. I make it a point to highlight to female shop owners that there is support available for them within the community of fellow female shop owners.
6:55 = Jordan , Walter Payton , Montana , Marvin Hagler Those are uncommon individuals , please don't have the same expectations from everyone else !! .
This is such an excellent series and this episode hits home with me. What you discussed in this episode I have lived and bend that Tech, and know what it feels like to carry the shop and not be recognized and not receive the financial benefit.. Yes, neglecting and overlooking your top performer can turn him into a toxic tech or a technician who jump ship . And then maybe all the other remaining technicians starts noticing the pattern, and they all get the same idea, and all jump ship together simultaneously. I have witnessed, and I have personally been a part of it. That really hit a spot when he mentioned $50,000 will not fly or keep a family afloat in most places. $50,000 nowadays is janitorial work.. If I don’t bring home 200 myself I’m looking around like what’s wrong. But I live in San Francisco that’s little more extreme than the rest of the country This episode in series, I will save to my favorites and forward to fellow shop owners, service, managers, service, writers, and inspiring technicians, who wanna become owners.
I really like when David chimes in!
