Seek Outside Courthouse: How To and Review

- I temporarily got my hands on the brand new wall tent from Seek Outside to test and review. It's definitely a break from the tipi design, but that's not necessarily a bad thing as there are pluses and minuses to both. I'll go through my thoughts and recommendations, as well as a full how-to on setting up the shelter. I'll also give a side-by-side comparison to the Cimarron and the 16 Person Tipi.
Despite being a wall tent, this is not your typical Walmart special. The Courthouse is a lightweight, floorless shelter weighing in at around 12.5 lbs (minus the stove). The design allows you to fit 2-3 people very comfortably with gear and a wood burning stove...maybe even a few chairs. The design will also stand up to 4 season camping with no issue.

Nice job, thanks for the over all look...
You could also cut some sticks/branches to prop up the side guy out points to give the wall the proper shape.
where did you get the sweet bag that everything goes in?
The Seek Outside 8 man tipi will hold three cots, give you more floor space, is lighter, and still costs less money. The Seek Outside 12 man tipi costs about the same, and has noticeably more floor space, and is still lighter than this tent. I'm not saying that this isn't the right tent for some people, but I think for most people, this is just a more expensive and heavier option for other existing tents from the same company.
I have the redcliff, it blew over in a big wind. From what i can tell your stakes/staking looks minimal. Have u ever had wind issues uprooting any of your tipis? If so, what have you done to prevent? I just bought longer stakes and hope this will suffice.
unbdld42 I really haven’t had that issue, and I’ve been in some wind. I tent to pull tight, stake on an angle, and I generally guyout for more space and stability
Very cool tent! How long does it take you to set up normally?
First time was a small learning curve, but after that it seems like about 15 min or so
Thanks!
Why you gotta send it back? Is it a prototype?
Seek is like Sax fith ave , real expensive but only slightly over average quality.
Agreed. And to add to the distress of overpaying for the product. When I received mine, the poles were missing and I had to call them asking wtf? Well they sent the poles but my trip was ruined because I did not notice and ASS U MED!!! Their packaging was complete in my order. Lesson learned...
John Hales, who would you choose for a lightweight tipi manufactured that has the quality you desire at a better price point? Titanium Goat? Kifaru? WildSystems Shelters? All are pretty much the same price, except Kifaru who are more expensive.
bwillan you can buy the same material and either sew it your self or pay someone to you pay less than 1/3 but no "cool" name in it. Things like this are made for people that have more money than scense. But pending on weight and sq foot you demand n require I wouldnt recommend a tipi for other than a heavy weight one. The shape is good for heavy winds but so are many other shaped that with the less material give the same sq ft so they would be even lighter using the same material.
additionaly if you search through all there including nortent are made in china if you want one like made by the manufacturers but with out the name in it search through the Chinese online sites or if you have to have the name buy from Europe they sell the same brands with the company logos for a couple hundred cheeper. the best material already done tents at the best prices are russian made not forsale in USA but you can buy on line, though again if you like a shape and reviews of a tent find out the material and go to the craft store n learn to sew they allow you to use their machines for a small fee and give you lessons.
Heres a great option to a pre built russian tent.. turn your sub titles on ruclips.net/video/tpasVxMndf4/видео.html
This comes does to the age old debate between making your own gear and buying it. For the most part, the only way it comes cheaper is if there is no dollar value assigned to your time to make it. Even if you have someone sew it for you, it is still going to cost your something.
bwillan far cheeper to make and new skills are invaluable
As much as these tents cost , there should be an extended cord for staking.
