- On 27 April 1521 Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan, at the time employed by the Spanish Crown, sailed to the island of Mactan in the Visayas region of the Philippines in a bid to subdue the local population. After easily forming friendships and converting leaders into catholicism, Magellan was defied by one of the Datu's of Mactan - Lapu-Lapu. Lapu-Lapu's resistance and victory of Ferdinand Magellan during the battle of Mactan went on to inspire a country and earn him the accolade of First Filipino Hero.

Thanks for sharing this historical fact of my beloved Sugbo.
Wrong, sorry but it is not a "fact" as you falsely mentioned. It is a historical massacre.
Very concise and informative, commenting for the algorithm :)
Short, concise, accurate. From the descendants of Lapu lapu.
False and only ignorant will believe a force of 1500 verses 50 is a fair fight. The end result is the true history. Lapu won lopsided massacre but LOST the big battle of the islands which the Conquistadores won by eventually ruling all the islands of what is now the Philippiness. The descendants of Lapu now live below Zamboanga.

Berdugo ka talaga. Spears and arrows vs guns 🔫 . Who you think win?
@@suskagusip1036 This always depends on numbers.
I am phillipino Mexican Indian and European and African in my genetics I haved read about megallan
Some Filipinos but not All are desperate for a hero. So, they make one up. Lapu died in the battle and nothing more was ever heard about him.

Lapu lapu not lapo lapo
The "massacre of Magellan and his men", cannot go down as a major victory. It was a "massacre". Nothing heroic about it Just an act of defiance.
EVERYTHING heroic about rising against colonizers.
Magellan was naive narcissist who believed in his supremacy motivated by the smell of his own farts. He fucked around with the wrong one and found out, Didn’t he ?
So Lapulapu must be the first foreigner considered a Filipino hero for killing another foreigner.
before being natives, all people were foreigners
Lapu lapu is a Local Chieftain of that island 🏝 . He killed your Magellan. Philippine history by Yoyoy Villame.
@@suskagusip1036 He came from Borneo and settled in Cebu to become a datu. That's why I consider him a Foreigner and not Filipino. Yoyoy a historian, you must be joking, he was a singer and comedian.

People in those chains of islands have the same blood.
Magellan has a last wish to his Mom. Listen to Yoyoy .
@@b.baggins8893 True. He was a Muslim and not a native. He is a fake hero.
