Airline Pilot answering YOUR questions

  • You asked (literally) and I did my best to deliver. I had lots of questions when I was starting my journey to become a pilot. Here is my take on some of YOUR questions, concerns, qualms, and curiosities.
    I filmed for almost 2 hours so the struggle was REAL editing it. I quickly realized this was definitely going to need a second part. So look forward to round 2 of responding to your comments!

    a wannabe airline pilot in my first time pregnancy here, just discovering your videos off of the more recent “I quit” posts video! I’ve been wanting to go into aviation, but was so deterred by this whole future momhood journey in front of me as well as career planning with children! I love how you’re staying so real through your journey and respect all your opinions and insights! Will continue catching up on your videos, hope you stay well :)

    Rachel F the haters! You need to be happy! I gave up a successful biz career to become an airline pilot. I loved flying my jet but hated everything else. Being gone from my wife and kids for a large one. So now I teach for the worlds largest aviation training company. I’m home every night and still get to play w our Sims and meet pilots from all over the world. I teach the fastest and slowest citations! For me,I’m happy!
    It’s all about being happy! Life is too damn short! I appreciate you and being open about what you are going through! Bless you both as you make your way!
    BTW, I started my flying at 39, became airline pilot at 43.

    Good on ya Rachel. I recently retired from an Air Force aviation career - now flying medevac jets. Civilian flying's made me realized I'm not exactly an aviation geek. I can definitely feel now how game changing a good quality of life is so I wouldn't blame anyone for not wanting to put up with the regional airline hustle. There's certainly a lot of life to be had outside of that path.

    I loved your answer to your first question or was it a question. You were very polite with great sarcasm. I couldn’t ever imagine saying such things. I’m the last person that would ever get a tattoo but if someone else wants to that’s fine. I got my private pilots license at 27 but didn’t stay current. It’s been a long time since I’ve flown and I’m 65 now. It was so much cheaper in those days. I love watching your channel.

      Hey! I'm not too interested in flying bigger or heavier planes solely based on those two factors. I am interested in job hunting again in the future, but I'd be looking at company culture, company policy, domiciles, pay scale, etc. before I'd be caring about the types of planes.

    Great video Rachael. Your tats and hair color don’t matter. Your a beautiful person and that’s all that matters.
    Being an avid watcher of Air Disasters I see more times than not a lot of crashes are caused by poor cockpit communication and pilot arrogance. Have you experienced this??

    • @ReyVolare
      @ReyVolare  3 года назад +1

      Thanks, Robert! I enjoy watching Air Disasters as well. To be honest, it's not as big of a threat as time goes on, but I have spotted moments where I could see how threats can creep up on you if you don't have good crew communication. I think the older generation of pilots had this issue MUCH more prevalent in their workplaces. I think the younger generations are much better at leaving egos at the door. Personalities getting in the way of communication and safety is a huge threat in this career, but I don't experience it often. Our airline (as I'm sure most do) has had some bad apple pilots that built reputations for being toxic and difficult to deal with. Eventually those people get written up, investigated, and kicked to the curb if they won't change their ways.

    What did you not like about ATP as a student and/or as a CFI? This would be super helpful as I’m planning on starting at ATP in the next few months! Also, do you have any advice for someone about to start who’s really nervous?

    • @ReyVolare
      @ReyVolare  3 года назад +1

      I've touched on some of the issues in a few different videos if you feel like perusing those. Check out the Q&A I did with Alex last summer as well as my "Who am I and how did I get here" video.
      In a nutshell, most of the issues I didn't actually see when I was a student because I didn't realize many things until I was dealing with management more later. The thing is that I went through as a student from 2013-2017 and things have changed a LOT there since I moved on. Back then, management was run by lots of ex or current pilots. They didn't have as many people in a "secretary/managerial" position to help the CFIs out. It was less organized, but also more flexible and organic. Now, what I've understood is that the company has more business minded individuals running the show so that comes with pros and cons from a pilot/CFI perspective. By the time I left the company had hired individuals to be the "office people" in a sense. They took care of tours, paperwork, CATS testing, ordering maintenance supplies, etc. It definitely helped the CFIs focus more on instructing and less on "house work" around the training center.

    Another nicely done q&a huni & I know how sometimes this job can make you question your life choices. I know you didn't want an office type job (same here) but. What view we have from our flying office. Unfortunately it does come with a price ($ € £ & sacrificing things etc). Also DON'T let any of the negative comments get you down.

    How does Rachel having tattoos affect her ability to fly an airplane? Yeah it doesn't. I personally am a fan of her Ink. And her new look.
    I've been here from the beginning and will remain so until Rachel stops filming. Have a nice day.
    Now more importantly how do I catch a flight with Rachel as the pilot. 😁
    Hi Rachel Dutch Volare 👋👋
    I would be happy flying a Cessna 182 at this point of starting.
    I was on the flight line in an ARFF Station with an Oshkosh 8X8 Truck.
    I wanted something new. I've put them out when on fire, now it's time to actually fly them.
    If I were a commercial pilot, being home every night would not be a care of mine. 😄
