Keep in mind some items labeled compostable actually mean "commercially compostable" so may not break down very well in home compost. So just like the different symbols for recycling, I believe there might be different symbols denoting type of compost suitable. I know our city doesn't have a compost pickup like they do recycling so we compost at our house but some of those compostable sugar cane plastics are in our composter, but I don't think ours gets hot enough to break them down. So I'll wait and see if they ever break down.
Yeah I’ve been learning so much about composting and recycling lately and that has frustrated me quite a bit! Haha I know most people don’t home compost let alone drive to their local composting facility IF they have one. I am constantly looking for ways to improve my footprint and help others as well. It’s great seeing companies push towards a greener future, but it takes the consumers help to make it actually helpful. Otherwise, more landfill space. 😣
Ohh how we miss you guys. Hope you guys see this we miss you and hope everything is going good in the air. Hope you didn’t pack it in on you tube. Best wishes
Hey John. Thanks for the check-in! We are doing well. Took a hiatus to focus on our wedding and honeymoon. I have 3 videos I’m editing when I can. Hiatus is almost over!!
Compostable materials rarely breakdown in landfills because there isn’t enough sunlight or moisture in those giant piles of garbage and bags. It sucks.
I'm learning so much lately about composting and recycling and it's so fascinating, but frustrating also. I long for the day that home composting is more of a standard and normalcy of living.
I strongly dislike Keurig coffees mostly because the machines RARELY get properly cleaned by the owners. My dad is pretty anal about keeping theirs cleaned regularly with vinegar, but still it grosses me out. The pods are a whole other issue haha I only will use the refillable ones with my own coffee at my parents house.
No I don't fly with the nose ring. It's definitely a fact that the water has so much to do with the outcome. I mean, it's 98% or more of the finished product as far as quantity. I've tried using mineral water and the cup definitely came out cleaner, but found that I was eventually just settling for my filtered water because I'd run out of mineral and forget to get it at the store. I also didn't like all of the waste I was producing by purchasing the water that way.
100% ignorance is bliss. I’m not even ashamed to admit that. Haha I most likely would survive after drinking that keurig coffee in the room. It’s only because I rinsed it and saw what was lurking that I decided not to brew coffee there. Haha
We get randomly drug tested, but it's RANDOM. haha I've heard coworkers of mine having gotten multiple randoms within a few months, but I have yet to be tested.
I love the Rachel-goes-green message! More people need to get on board with reusing, recycling when able and composting as much as possible. It’s not that difficult folks!
Agreed. It's going to affect our lifetime on this planet, but for sure the generations to come!! There's an aviation sustainability non-profit called GreenWings I'm apart of and it's all about helping encourage flight crew members to focus on eco friendly practices and sustainability. It's awesome!
Rachel's new podcast title:
"Coffee from Rachel's home - to an airport near you".

do you fly the EMB175? How uncomfortable is it in back for LAX-AUS...3+hr flight.
I do fly the 175. It has a reputation for being bumpier in the back compared to the front. It all depends on the skies!
@@ReyVolare Thanks. I will give it a try. my return AUS-LAX is on either a 320 or 737...just didn't know if the 175 is worth avoiding or not.
@@bohica9203 Oh I don't think you need to avoid it! haha It's not a CRJ or EMB 145. It's much more comfortable in the seats and with the space.
have you tried Philz coffee before? mostly in the Bay Area one of my favorites they use the pour over method
I've tried Philz here and there and I've always been so interested in their whole model! I thought the cafe was great!
Hello from Spain racheldutch
Hello from the US, Ernesto!

Great vid, Rey! Way to reduce the single-use coffee cup use on the trip!
Oh, you know. I try. Haha
you’re brave ! i can never do the hotel room coffee ive never tried LOL
haha I definitely don't recommend it!
Would LOVE a video about how you roast and brew!
I might be editing one of those as we speak..er...type. haha
Ps, I have never had a good cup of coffee out of a Keurig. Farberware perculator all the way.

Have you ever considered a stainless steel mesh reusable filter for the pour over rather than the paper? We switched and it is so much better.
I’ve been thinking about trying fabric filters and I’m testing out a metal one now. Stay tuned. 😏
The water has alot to due with the finished product.
Are you allowed to now fly with the nose ring?

Lobby coffee is probably just as dirty, but ignorance is bliss

Do you ever drink coffee from the galley on the airplane your flying?
Great video as always ☺️
I did today! It's not ideal, but it's free. So it magically tastes about 25% better haha
Hey do u get drug tested often at your job?
We get randomly drug tested, but it's RANDOM. haha I've heard coworkers of mine having gotten multiple randoms within a few months, but I have yet to be tested.
I don't know japan hotel coffee good 😜

@@ReyVolare …great idea to organize on an industry level! If you can effect (affect?) change at this level it would be huge!
Isn’t that too large a liquid for security ha ha
