The "lies" manga artists tell about the position of the face of the conversant reminds me of theater. In theater, the actors also "lie" with their body language, making sure to face the audience even when this wouldn't make sense in terms of their positioning to the other actor they are talking to (or rather, the character which their character is talking to). It is for the same reason as the manga lie, clearly showing the face communicates the feeling of the character.
I love you Urasawa! Thanks for existing. Your stories are part of my life, and now you’re teaching us your craft! What an amazing human being. Your legacy will live on forever!
This is basic stuff I’m aware of, but seeing Urasawa Sensei sketch out these examples is incredibly informative and inspiring. As I watch this, I can think of many instances in the comic I’m currently drawing where I’ve failed to utilize these techniques. I want to redo these pages now, but the deadline looms.
Interesting how manipulation of perspective is a "lie" given how secondary it becomes for reader/watcher. Think of how often we see/play stuff in the 3rd person perspective to better understand/be able to play stuff easily. But you showing how the "flow" of scene is affected by such really shows what a important skill it is.
Thank you for the upload. I am very excited for the anime of Pluto and hope that maybe one day Billy Bat would get an official english translation. I want the set of it haha
I always look forward to the videos you post. Thank you for sharing your insights! This was an extremely helpful video; I had never noticed how the flow worked like this for Manga!
(Hello Master Naoki Urasawa!) I've only just discovered this channel. It's a pleasure to watch an artist's creative process, to see characters and situations come to life and gain expressiveness through his mastery of techniques and his sensitivity. I have a question I'd like to hear Naoki Urasawa-Sensei talk about. I notice that in many works (particularly anime) the faces seen from behind in 3/4 are very deformed. The eyes are drawn more as if they were in profile (2/4) and the perspectives of the nose and mouth are completely disproportionate. 8:36 - Here's a good, well-proportioned example of 3/4 from the back, but many drawings I see end up with "cubist" faces. I don't know if it's just a technical difficulty or if the fact that the eyes can be large makes it difficult to draw faces from this perspective. All I know is that they look very strange and spoil not only the overall quality of the work (whether it's manga or anime) but also distract the viewer from the story. It's as if the viewer/reader has been slapped and, alerted to this physiognomic disproportion, is distanced from the story. I'd like to know what the technical difficulties are in depicting faces in this 3/4 perspective from behind. Could Urasawa-Sensei draw some examples? (Thank you very much.)
Thank you for your wisdom, Urasawa-sensei. I fell in love with your art and storytelling styles many years ago with 20th Century Boys and am grateful for your teachings.
I'm trying to become the first foreign mangaka to have a series in either Jump SQ or Ultra Jump, so your videos help me a fair bit. You also wrote three of my favorite manga serializations of all time. Thank you, Urusawa Sensei :)
how old are you my friend, we seem to share the same dream in our lives, i am aiming for monthly afternoon or big comic spirits, do you have any social media id? let's be friends!
thank you urasawa sensei! i'm always curious about how manga and comics can be made to clearly communicate certain ideas and learning from a master is so great. we are truly blessed to have you on here
Congratulations on your career! 🎉So many years of drawing! Good for us! 😊Thanks for the lesson on composition and tempo. It was very interesting. The do's and don'ts were very illustrative. 😃 Have a nice day Urasawa sensei! 🥰
Eu feichei os 100! "👍" kkkkk

I fully agree! good luck on the story!
Knowing about the lie and not treating your framing as reality makes it a lot easier and I always focused on the reality.

I've read a ton of manga making advice and never came across to such lesson, you're a true legend, Urasawa Sensei! Huge thanks from Mexico!
It leaves me speechless the speed in which he draws!!!
Your videos are great Sensei! Easy and thorough explanation makes them the best!!
I love your All Rosewood Telecaster! George Harris! Lovely!
Thank you for this Urasawa. You are a very big inspiration!
Hello, Urasawa Sensei! Thank you for your time and gave us valuable lesson on tips and tricks in making a manga panel composition. So inspiring!
Thank you for your generosity Urusawa Sensei!
You are the best! You show what others dont. I want to draw more after watching you
We love you! See you in Lucca 2023..i hope!!
It's been 2.7 years since I first watched monster and still it's one of my favourite show and for me best show ever created.

Great video ! I am hopefully expecting next video is about drawing scenery and background.
Urasawa The GOAT
Thank you for your wisdom, Urasawa-sensei. I fell in love with your art and storytelling styles many years ago with 20th Century Boys and am grateful for your teachings.
thank you for the videos Urusawa, keep doing what your doing
love from india , want to meet and learn all the great techniques from u sir
He is 60 and is still working on asadora
Obv it will be late
Dibuja muy bien mis respetos!!
Thank you for the video, Urasawa sensei.
Absolutely going to be looking for these from now on when I read comic books.
Just finished Billy Bat, you are amazing Urasawa-sensei!

Thank you very much for those videos, they’re always extremely interesting!
Thank you for all Urasawa-sensei absolutely genious 🙌🙌
Thank you Urasawa Sensei, what an useful lesson!
I love naoki urasawa❤❤❤❤
Thank you very much for your advice, hope you have a great time at the award event.
A very good video! Thank you very much!❤
You made my morning, Urasawa sensei. Thank you for the video!!
These videos are always a treat to watch!
Thank you for the knowledge, Urasawa san.
I look forward to the next MANBEN
