One of the things that I like about manga is the authors really know how to show movement and impact. I like western comicbooks (especially from the writer Roy Thomas'), but after the 90s they are like static screenshots of a movie, they don't understand that their characters look like lifeless statues. Comicbooks/manga are more than just pictures on a box, they have their own ways to express movement, sound, etc. Thank you for making the video and adding subtitles.
I recommend checking out Daniel Warren Johsnon. He's an american artist who does movement extremely well. All his work is incredibly dynamic and fun to read.
Urasawa-san!! I'm a 17 year old boy who wants to draw manga and i'm already doing it by myself. I discovered you're channel a few days ago and i'm so happy watching your videos, watching your program Manben and reading your mangas.
Excited to hear about Happy! getting a digital release. I work in a book store where I discovered your works and your stories quickly became a favourite of mine (20th Century Boys and Asadora have constantly been series I recommend to people looking to start reading manga for the first time). I hope more of these releases can come to the western market in physical form some day! There is something special about handing someone a print copy of a book you are passionate about and talking to them about it.
Sorry for being off-topic, but congratulations about the anime adaptation of "Pluto" ! I love the manga series so much ! Hopefully, the same thing will happen to " 20th century boys "
I wanted to say, before coming across your Master Keaton video accidentally, I'd never really read Manga. I liked the video so much that it convinced me to read the Master Keaton series (I have purchased all of them now and I'm halfway through) and then Monster. I then found out about the Manben TV series and watched them all. All of this convinced me to study drawing for the first time in my mid-40s. I've always enjoyed drawing in my life, but never really did it seriously or took any classes. The Master Keaton video was really the spark that has started this journey for me and really generated a deep appreciation for Manga and for your work. Thank you again for sharing your knowledge with us.
Thank you for the wonderful demonstration! The transition in manga from portraying action "in media res" to capturing the action/impact/reaction in a single shot is a tremendous technical achievement, so I'm glad you took the time to highlight its effectiveness here. To any manga history fans, there's a wonderful conversation between Urasawa Naoki and Eguchi Hisashi from 2009 about New Wave mangaka and how Otomo Katsuhiro in particular was a master of this technique (e.g., capturing a gunshot/impact/recoil in a single clean moment). Highly recommend searching it up online for a read.
Thank you for making those videos, and DOUBLE thanks for not speeding-up the drawings. I actually watch to study from how you draw, that is very helpful! Thank you!
Blessing us with a video so soon?! Its a miracle, thank you so much! Also! I hope you come to London again, I didn't learn about your works till a few months after it had happened.
One day I wish to meet Urasawa. He has taught me so much and I would love to be able to properly thank him for all he has done, not only for me but for everyone who has the privilege of reading his works 👑
Happy was such an emotional and exciting journey, one of my favorite manga. I'm glad I could hear a bit about how it was made. Thanks for your hard work!
I wasn't expecting another video soon. I'm so pleased. Thank you Urasawa sensei.😊 Fantastic advice: "It's not the very moment of hitting, but the next moment that you should draw." 🥰🥰
Urasawa Sensei, thank you for your work and this video. Many fans of your work as well as myself wonder if you ever planned to have Manben shared internationally. Many of us would love to see such great work officially. Thank you again. (I'm from France)
Urasawa sensei, it seems like the high-end photocopier and nice guitars are representative of two ends of the personality spectrum ⚖️ . I admire a true nature with equal parts orderliness with an ungovernable mind ✨️🙃😘
I still don't believe that one of my favorite mangakas gives me tutorials for free.
thank you so much.
Glad Naoki Sensei finally read How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way.
urasawa's understanding of gesture and form and how confidently he slaps it onto the page is something else

Because they are no longer hired for how their skill, but rather for their political activism. Don't you appreciate?
These videos are the very essence of a REAL Philosopher's Stone. My Sweet Goodness.

Post your manga online so that I could read it
You can do it! Keep drawing and improving! I believe in you :]]

do you post any of your artwork online?

Your comment brightened up my day and reminded me of my days when i used to review manga w my friends
Thank you❤
Happy!

❤😊
I love Miyuki, glad to see her!!!
It reminds me of studying animation when you do a ball bounce, the frame after the impact is always the most dynamic
Live in my country really mess right now, but your works help me in bad days. Thank you very much Urasawa-san.
This man is so talented that he started drawing the tennis scene with the character’s hair first😂👏🏾
Another great video from Urasawa sensei
thank you Urasawa-sensei!! i'm a 15 yro girl who struggles drawing movements and action poses but this really helps a lot!
Thank you for making those videos, and DOUBLE thanks for not speeding-up the drawings. I actually watch to study from how you draw, that is very helpful! Thank you!

always appreciate you for uploading videos in your busy schedule to teach us sensei !
Amazing, sensei! Thank you for the video and the subtitles!
urasawa one of my biggest inspirations in drawing 😿
Happy birthday, Urasawa sensei
Amazing! Sabrina was my favourite character in Happy!
I would like to watch another lesson using Billy Bat characters.
Greetings from El Salvador.
One day I wish to meet Urasawa. He has taught me so much and I would love to be able to properly thank him for all he has done, not only for me but for everyone who has the privilege of reading his works 👑
I LOVE URASAWA-SAMA
The speedline methods are very useful, thank You Mr. Urasawa!
Urasawa sensei you’re the best!!! Love the stories you create!!!!!❤❤❤
I hope Happy being digitised makes it easier to come out in English some day! I would love to read it!
Gracias por sus enseñanzas sensei 🙇🏻
O Urasawa é incrível.
I like your works. Urasawa Sensei. From India. 🤍
love ur works sir
love from INDIA😍😍😍😍

Gracias maestro ..saludos y te deseo buena salud ,y muchos exitos .desde mi pais colombia
Happy is the one series of his I've never read any of, maybe I need to finally change that...
Feliz año señor urasawa
Happy was such an emotional and exciting journey, one of my favorite manga. I'm glad I could hear a bit about how it was made. Thanks for your hard work!
totalmente, es un total privilegio
I just saw the Pluto Sneakpeak congratulations 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Happy is gold, loved the story. Thanks for sharing this lesson with us Urasawa-san.
i love you Urasawa, 20th century boys is the best manga oat
Thank you for the video, always a pleasure to watch the master drawing❤
Mindblowing!
I wasn't expecting another video soon. I'm so pleased. Thank you Urasawa sensei.😊
Fantastic advice: "It's not the very moment of hitting, but the next moment that you should draw." 🥰🥰
Happy New Year, sensei, thank you for sharing your amazing work to us.
I love your work and RUclips channel.
Regards from Brazil.
Yawara gave us evil urasawa 😂 yawara is very dear to me, it was a fun manga to read ♥️
It's gratifying to hear Urasawa's favorite is "Happy!" Plus, this blew me away: does he rough his figures in pen? Such incredible technique!
Obrigado, mestre. Aqui do Brasil 👍
i want to be a manga artist soon!!
Urasawa Sensei, thank you for your work and this video.
Many fans of your work as well as myself wonder if you ever planned to have Manben shared internationally. Many of us would love to see such great work officially.
Thank you again.
(I'm from France)
How can a man write stuff like Monster 20th Century Boys Pluto Billy Bat and still be this humble and down to earth 😭😭😭
wish Urasawa sensei can make a video of drawing background, like buildings, or inside the rooms, thank you❤
Feliz año urasawa
nicee another video of the best manga artist
「Happy!」
Urasawa sensei, it seems like the high-end photocopier and nice guitars are representative of two ends of the personality spectrum ⚖️ . I admire a true nature with equal parts orderliness with an ungovernable mind ✨️🙃😘
