Hey Emma, can you do a list about movies you didn't like but now do or vice versa, like "movies i changed my opinion"
wow 28 thumbs up! might have to!
@@spookyastronauts omggg thank u so much for responding and taking in consideration my comment ❤️❤️❤️
@@spookyastronauts 138 now ;)
These lists are always better than any WatchMojo top 10 stuff. Such a large variety of films with this channel.
Nice to see The Witch on here. As always, your diverse knowledge of horror is commendable.
thank you so much!
But witch was a pretty average movie tho. For korean movie standards btw
Hey dude! Lol
@@ugrammveeram534 I disagree completely
@@DerykRonk nobody cares
Emma,
A few other great foreign films are: "Baskin" (Turkish), "Der Nachtmar" (German), and not so much horror as it is a thriller (with some potentially disturbing scenes) from your homeland, Australia, "Wake in Fright" 😉 Enjoy!!!
I’ve reviewed Baskin! So good! And of course I’ve seen wake in fright, it’s a big deal here
Baskin was really disturbing but oh so good!!
@Josh Canaday Definitely!! I stumbled upon it one day and BAM! Yeah, a trippy, creepy ride for sure!
"Der Bunker". What the hell did I just watch? David Lynchian weirdness abounds in this madhouse.
" Ratsasan " from Tamil language South india. Its bout a guy who wanna be a horror movie director but ended up becoming a cop. Suddenly alot of teen school girls gone missing movie is pretty well made and have really emotional and terrifyling scenes too.
Emma, I must say when you say “you’ve never heard of” you actually mean it. From this list, I know Severence and that’s it. Thank you for being so obscure.
I try! 😊
I love The Nightshifter, from Brazil. I'm a brazilian desairologist, and I binge watched it with The Autopsy of Jane Doe and The Haunting Of Hill House.
I have a little bit of trauma to be honest.
“Terrified”
It’s Argentinian, really managed to creep me out
Terrified was super good!!!! And scary! I don't hear anyone really talking about this movie either...but it sure scared me. Loved it!
I think she already reviewed it but I could be wrong. Look it up in the search option.
This is the one I was going to comment! Such an amazing film, haven't been that scared of supernatural horror for a long time!
Tierrified 2 is also coming :D
@@mrkos87 oooooh can't wait! 🍿🍷
Hey hun! I've been following you pretty much since you started, and have chatted with you a few times both on here and BookTube. I just wanted to drop by the comments and let you know this video, as always, was an AMAZING. You're commentary is absolutely FLAWLESS! You've grown so much over these past few years, and have gotten an amazing following behind you. You're videos - and their content - have continually improved and is seriously second to none. Also, our tastes, both in film and literature, are insanely alike! I don't comment much at all on RUclips anymore, but I really wanted to let you know just how much I appreciate you spreading these amazing movies, and how much happiness it brings me to see how successful this channel has become. You've worked so hard and it shows in every video. You deserve WAY MORE subs though... Just saying. I hope you and your loved ones doing well hun and, again, thank you (truly) for these awesome videos! Take care and please stay safe.
thank you so much for recommending "der bunker". i just watched it and it was as strange as i was hoping. i loved every minute of it!
Nice to see you included Left Bank in your list from my home country Belgium!
Thanks for the recs Emma!
thank you Emma!!!
First of all, your hair looks amazing 😍 also, I am adding all of these to my Letterboxd watch list, Left Bank looks so good!
Great selection, some interesting recommendations. Can't wait to work my way through!
Thanks for your great recommendations, you have put some terrific films my way that I would never have seen if it wasn't for you
I'm glad you mentioned Strangled. It's actually a very famous film here in Hungary.
That makes me so happy!
Thanks for another great list! You always look fabulous, but the new hairstyle is definitely gorgeous!
Thanks for helping me fill up my watch list, Emma! Btw, I checked out "The Beach House"... Wow. Took my dog outside afterward (I live right on the coast) and the fog was starting to roll in. Im like "Zylo, piss. Now!" 😂 great watch!
Lol 😁
Your presentation style is really engaging. Nice work!
Yooo a lot of these titles have skimmed my radar, so it's good that you point them out, because I'll hone in on them. Thank you!
Yay
Digging back three years and you still pull movies I've never seen. You point blank have the best horror channel on youtube
Thank you !
Thanks as always for the list, Emma. I haven't seen any of those films, but I am curious to see both "Strangled" and "Severance". As for foreign horror films that don't get much attention, the only one I can think of is "Busa (The Booth)", which you reviewed a couple of years back on 31 Days Of Horror. "Tell Me Something" is also a good Korean thriller from 1999, but I don't know how unknown it is.
Love the waves, Emma!
I’ve only heard of half of these which is wonderful! Looking forward to checking these out. Thanks Emma!
Hell yeah 🤘
I ❤ your foreign review and different hairstyles 👏
Oh my goodness! Never heard of any of these before, very excited to check them out. In particular Der Bunker
High Lane (or Vertige) 2009 (France)
Calvaire (or The Ordeal) 2004 (Belgium)
Baskin 2015 (Turkey)
Snowtown 2011 (Australia!)
Wow I havent heard of any of these and they all look awesome! Thanks Emma I'm definently gonna check out most of these.
Thank you!
This one's gold for Emma quotes: "Strap In!" "You're not foolin' me, mate." Great vid.
:P
Gonna definitely watch Severance...you had me at "if you liked Mayhem and Belko Experiment" lol
Severance was one of my favourite horror's when I was younger! I'm so glad it got a shout out.
Also now I miss The Worst Witch haha.
You should really watch and review Dead End (2003) it’s incredibly underrated and never talked about. I probably would put it in my top five favorite horror movies easily. It’s in english but it’s produced in France so it would be good for a foreign horror list.
Anyone who likes Twin Peaks should watch this and think of it as a Leland Palmer spin-off movie..
Ya, its really good......
I can vouch for "The Witch" (pt. 1), it's excellent and really hoping for 2&3.
samee!
Left Bank! I've been trying to remember this title for months, thanks! And also it's great to come across a list of lesser known and unusual horrors that I haven't seen, other than Left Bank and Severance. Plenty of hot tips in the comments too, so here's mine: Tumbbad. It's a fairly epic Indian horror, available on Prime.
Everybody should watch " THE ORDEAL", (Calvaire) though.
Such a great video. There's a plenty of horror gems out there!
HOW did I not already know about Left Bank! thank youuuu for this list I can’t wait to dig in !
Enjoy!
Thank you for another great video I dont know if you have seen Thr girl who was fond of matches but Ive never seen somebody talk about that movie
this is exactly what i was looking for i no longer have to do all the work struggling to find global horror movies to watch and love. thank you Emma for your work on this site.
Thanks for making this video. I have more horror movies to add to my watchlist. BTW, your hair look beautiful.
I'm so glad you talked about The Witch Part 1!! NOBODY knows it but it's SO GOOD I mean the protagonist acting is AMAZING !!
Wow I haven’t heard of any of these! Thank you Emma for the suggestions 🖤
One foreign horror movie I stumbled upon was “Carved: The Slit-Mouthed Woman” it’s a Japanese urban legend film, it’s definitely creepy and worth a watch !
Hi Emma , hope you’re doing well. I’m so hooked on your content and I’m the same fan that’s been recently trying to locate the foreign lists you’ve made but in particular the one where you briefly examine the Argentinian (terrified). Would you happen to know which of your vids I’m speaking of? I wanna say it was also a foreign hidden gems. If you can’t track it down no worry I’ll keep just combing along 😅
Awesome. I haven’t heard of any of these!!!! Thank you 👻 👩🏻🚀
Enjoy!
god damn you've just added a lot to my movie list. thank you
Try to watch Left Bank with a friend years ago but due to some issue we couldn't get it subtitled, and then I forgot about. Thanks for reminding me because I was very excited to watch it at the time.
I never heard of the Korean Witch movie but now I have to see it.
I did see severance several years ago, and I agree it was great.
Thanks for the video. This is why we watch.
Geat list! My watchlist just got longer.
I always recommend people the spanish horror film Julias Eyes. Very underrated.
It would be awesome to see you talk about Italian horror. Loved the video
Great list, as always. I've held off buying Der Bunker for so long, but this may have just given me the impetus to pull the trigger on it.
As for recommendations, there is one that I'm starting to believe that nobody else has seen, that being Shadows in the Palace (South Korea, 2007). Part period piece and part murder mystery with a heavy supernatural element. A predominantly female cast, a woman director in Kim Mi-jung (who hasn't directed a feature film since, which based on this is criminal) and is an absolute delight and a real oddity for Korean films of the time (just post quota slash, which steered away from films like Oldboy and more towards My Girlfriend is an Agent... which I may or may not have seen... Don't judge me). Well worth a watch if you can track it down (if you haven't already, of course).
Here is a foreign horror no one seems to talk about: Dream Home from Hong Kong.
It isn't foreign if you are from HK 🤔
That film was cray, but at the same time I really wanted her to get that place lol.
Dream Home was awesome!!
Home Sweet Home is another HK horror film from like 2005 that was pretty interesting. I think in some countries it was called 'monster'.
Severance yes! Very good comedy horror, I will need to check out some of these other ones, Thanks Emma
Enjoy! I hope you like them!
Great video Emma 👏. I love foreign horror thanks for your recommendations♥️📀📺🍿🍕🛋️🙌
Thanks for watching
One of my favourite horror movies of all time is “The Cremator” from 1969. It’s a czech movie based on a book by czech author and it’s so weird, twisted, kinda hard to understand in some parts! I believe it’s on Netflix (it definitely is here in Czech republic) and I definitely recommend it, if you enjoy Hitchcock and generally older movies!
Hi Emma!
Just found your channel and I have to say, I love it. You don't say to much and yet you still manage to say enough to make me wanna watch the movies. Thanks
A foreign horror no one ever talks about is "A Chinese Ghost Story", it's a 1987 movie. I have watched it when I was 6 and fell in love with it and still am.
Hey!!! I’ve seen it! Great movie!
I loved Severance! As usually I've put all your other recommendations in my watchlist.
I'm gonna watch all of these. Surprisingly (for me that is), I have seen none of them, although Der Bunker and The Witch has been on my list for some time. Thank you! I especially appreciate the movie from Hungary as I don't think I've ever seen a movie from that country. Should be interesting.
Severance was a lot of fun. I was actually blown away to be honest.
There are quite a few in here that I haven't seen and are now on my short list. Thanks! I'd love to see that To Watch list, especially the hard to find ones. One relatively obscure movie is Vlci bouda (Wolf's Hole) a 1980s movie by Czech filmmaker Vera Chytilová. It has such a unique feel for a horror flick in my opinion.
I've always loved horror movies, but the last few years practically everything I watch is horror. This channel has opened up so many amazing movies so thank you.
I haven't seen the others, but I have seen Severance & I had a great time with it! There are quite a few memorable & darkly hilarious scenes in this one!
I'll look for the others you've listed.
Hey Emma, have you ever seen Taxidermia? It's also a horrific hungarian classic in the same vein as Pink Flamingos, but with more political satire. I'd also recommend Kontroll, which is not really horror movie (more like noirish thriller-comedy), but certainly has a spooky dreamlike atmosphere thanks to it's subway (not the fast food chain - it's not that dark) location. Anyway, good video as always!
LEFT BANK ( LINKEROEVER ) , is a Belgian movie with the actor MATTIAS SCHOENAERTS, who will later shine in BULLHEAD (RUNDSKOP ), that was nominated for an OSCAR for best foreign movie in 2012. He since acted frequently in a lot of great movies and seems to choose his roles very well.
Severance and Der Bunker have my attention, thank you for those.
Not sure if I'd call it underrated, but there's a French horror called Among the Living that came out in 2014 that takes the slasher genre in a totally bizarre direction. Not all of it works but there are scenes in that movie I won't be forgetting.
The Witch was great! Hope part 2 comes soon
Haven’t watched any of these, looking forward to it
Loved Severance! It was a blind buy amongst a stack of DVDs I grabbed based on the coverart which I didn’t watch for a while then kicked myself for not watching it first after having such a fun time with it when I gave it a spin. I
Keep up the good work!
Thank you!
Hey Emma, I would like to recommend the german horror film Der Nachtmahr to you. It is very weird but also very effective. I know it is a cliché to say that, but I believe that many people do not get it at all, comparing it to E.T., while it could not be further away from that in regards of tone and meaning. I really hope that it will get more attention in the future and maybe become some kind of a cult classic. It is literally one of my favourite films ever but, even in Germay noone has seen it, which is very frustrating.
Another underseen foreign horror film is Hagazussa from Austria. It is again, very weird and extremely atmospheric. It might be considered boring by some because the story is not the focus of the film. You could compare it to The VVitch in some ways, but I believe that it's even darker and really does it's own thing. Check it out, you won't regret it!
I bought Der Nachtmahr on dvd and loved it.
oh my god. severance. i didnt know what is was called bc i watched it in german on the plane back from my school exchange and i have never forgotten it but i couldnt remember what it was called in german let alone english. it is hilarious but also a good horror.
Great list Emma. Have you ever seen the French / Georgian film 13 Tzameti? It was remade in America by the same director, but the intensity is in the French language version. It's a thriller but it gets very very bloody and absolutely nerve wracking. Thanks for more films to consider and for exploring the fringes for us.
What’s the remake called?
@@CorbCorbin It's just called 13. It's not bad. But the original has a very different vibe.
Interesting!!! thanks for the recommendation!
Just watched Left Bank. Actually pretty good. Got a great tune at the end which I found out is Beth Gibbons - Mysteries (Portishead). Made the ending quite sad.
I've got The Witch Part 1 on blu-ray, so can easily recommend it. As for unexpected horror, check out Bacurau (2019) Brazil. The best part is the Google synopsis; it's completely false and doesn't classify anywhere as a horror.
Thanks for the recommendation!
Hey Emma, I would love to recommend to you two horror movies from my country (Brazil): Friendly Beast and Good Manners (the second one is not full horror, more like a werewolf fantasy, but I would still count)
Awesome recommendations, allow me to add another Brazilian one, The Trace We Leave Behind.
Thank you so much!
Good Manners is SO. GOOD.
The Father's Shadow is another Brazilian film I love, which felt like Possession meets The Babadook to me, and this might very well be the highest level of praise I can give any movie. 😊
Great recommendations guys! Can't wait to watch these either 👍
@@spookyastronauts Hi Emma, def check out Good Manners if you haven't yet, it has one of the coolest endings I've seen in a film in years.
Got to see der bunker with the director here in Edinburgh at a film festival it went down well. Severance is a lot of fun! One of my favourites
wow that would of been fun to see in a crowd haha!
I've only watched Severance and I love it, I own it on DVD, but I'm definitely gonna look for some of them on this list
I really enjoyed Der Bunker, haven’t seen the witch, I’m looking for it tonight.
I love slow-burn movies especially when they are set in a foreign location/culture to me. I enjoy the little details of how life is different. I would watch back-to-back movies in film festivals and feel like I've been on a vacation.
Well at least I made it before a 100 comments. Anyway thanks Emma. I’ve only seen 2 of these so I have something to look forward to. I also watch about 10 times as many foreign (that includes Aussie) films that domestic (U.S.). I just find them more satisfying.
Enjoy!!!
So funny! I saw the title and Left Bank immediately came to mind!
Left bank was amazing. Took a chance when it was released on dvd and it stuck with me.
Greetings from Hungary :) Thank you Emma :X
Thank you for watching!
Emma, every time you upload a new 'underrated films' video, I'm always waiting to hear your thoughts on Possum (2018). Even though it's an extremely slow burn, this film has always stuck with me since I watched it and I'd really like to know what you think
I've just watched Severance! Great list
hell yeah!
Hey Emma, I am a new visitor on your channel I have a question that what's your favorite foreign language mysteriously horror films?
I've heard of The Witch Part 1 and Der Bunker, but never seen them. A huge YES to "Severance"! Watched it multiple times. It's the same director/writer (Christopher Smith) of "Triangle", which I liked quite a bit as well.
Plus, Laura Harris in "Severance" was also in one of my (short-lived) favourite shows, "Dead Like Me". 😁
She was in The Faculty too.
Ironically this video had been uploaded for three days before I knew it was there... a true hidden gem 👍🏻
I have seen none of these. Well maybe Severance many years ago, but I don't recall. The images just seemed familiar. Looks like I have a few films to track down. ...... Who the hell would ever give you a thumbs down?! I mean the effort you put in alone deserves recognition. I don't know when you find the time to watch all of these and I watch A LOT of movies. Lol
I like your channel and your hair
I'd recommend The Invisible Guest. It's not exactly a horror but it's a foreign crime thriller.
ohhh interesting!
@@spookyastronauts I'm not sure if it's on Australian Netflix though.
Hi, you're having a great hair day. Me, I am holding onto the last 3 precious hair that I have left. Could you do a review of 'Ju-on- origins'?
I’ve seen it and loved it! But I don’t think I’ll be reviewing it, still thinking about it
Hi Emma , I just saw & enjoyed Strangled ! This reminded me of Zodiac but was far better. No Hurdy Gurdy Man 🎶 though.
I agree, it was really well done.
I’m from Hungary, so happy you mentioned Mártfűi rém, “Strangled”. It’s a shocking and sad story, people still mentioning the serial killer, Péter to this day. The movie itself is very accurate, raw but accurate.
Im glad it does it justice
Oh my goodness Severance! What a film, loved it so much. I almost cry laughed at Gordon (played by Andy Nyman, the genius behind Ghost Stories), he was brilliant.
Emma Morley-Haven't seen Severance in years but i remember really enjoying it & actually finding it surprisingly disturbing for a horror comedy, will need to watch it again. Also you're right about Andy Nyman he's brilliant, I really love the movie adaptation of Ghost Stories. I had tickets to see the play last year which I was really looking forward too, but unfortunately it got cancelled due to the pandemic, really hoping Andy Nyman will try touring with the show again once theatres reopen.
@@kirstyfairly4371 oh my gosh, that's epic! I'd love to see something like that live on stage, although if the film is anything to go by, I'd be hiding for most of it 😂😂😂
@@emmamorley138 -Yeah horror works surprisingly well on stage. I've seen the play of The Woman In Black about 4 times & it's terrifying on stage so i can imagine Ghost Stories would have been every bit as scary on stage as the movie was, still really gutted they had to cancel it. I've been a horror fan since i was a kid thanks to my parents, they used to watch a lot of scary movies with my brother & me when we were growing up.
Hey Emma
What do you think about : man bites dog, a Belgian movie from 1992 ? A great movie to really think about. Greetings Lucy
Severance is one of my favorites!👍
hell yeah!
I LOVED Severance, much more than Belko and Mayhem. Another goodie is a Russian film called, Why Don’t You Just Die. Not sure if I’d classify it as horror, but rather a super bloody, off the wall dark comedy. I had a lot of fun with it.
Oh yes that came out a little while ago! I remember that, I didnt watch it but I got the press info.
Nice list! If you would like to check some horror movies from Polish directors I would recommend: "Devil" ("Diabeł" 1972 by Andrzej Żuławski) "Possession" ("Opętanie" 1981 by Krzysztof Kieślowski) - two most controversial and considered classics; "Werewolf" ("Wilkolak" 2018 by Adrian Panek). There are not too many polish horror movies (thriller genre is way more popular), due to former censorship, lack of strong local horror literature, and elimination of folk tales during middle ages by the catholic church.
I hope you find the movies interesting.
I'm wondering if you have seen Atterados-Terrified 2019. I went into it without watching the trailer and I was really surprised. That was the first film in along time that the jumpscares actually scared me. Give it a watch I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
I reviewed it last year :)
