Only movies I consider disturbing and depraved are the obvious ones like...
      A Serbian Film
      Cannibal Holocaust
The ones that I dont think you would be able to stomach are...
The August Underground (the whole trilogy)
      Guinea Pig (the whole collection)
      Nekromantic
An honourable mention from our little country, Britain...called Mum and Dad. That one doesn't get enough love. Don't get mixed up with the American one.

Kudos for featuring "Boxing Helena." ! It seemed to be part of a string of disturbing "body horror" films of the early-mid '90's: " Killing Zoe," "The Doom Generation," "7", "Mary Shelley's Frankenstein", and to a degree "The Crying Game." All had the same bleak, industrial lighting and disturbing imagery. Solid vid.

I never see anyone mention Mysterious Skin with JGL. It is extremely well done, and I don’t know if I could ever watch it again. A young boy is obsessed with alien abductions, believing he was a victim. Another boy struggles with drugs and begins hustling. When their paths cross, the tragic event that links them is reviled.
I haven’t watched it since the days of Netflix by mail, but it still lives in my head.

Great film!! Omg - great cast, acting, film work. I miss the old IFC days.
But this movie is NOT A HORROR MOVIE. there is an important distinction between gritty, human based, existential coming of age storytelling, and HORROR. Again - I LOVE this movie, but it's not horror. You need to learn the difference. Let me give u a quick walk-through: John Milton, Edgar Allen Poe, H.P. Lovecraft, Robert W Chambers, Stephen King, Ramsey Campbell, George A Romero, John Carpenter, Stuart Gordon, Victor Miller, Wes Craven, Tobe Hooper, William Friedken, David Cronenberg, Clive Barker, Don Coscarelli, Ari Aster, etc...these are different than Stanely Cubrik or Martin Scorsese, or Howard storm.

It's hard to find these types of dark neo-noir/detective/psychological thrillers in the vein of Seven, Silence of the Lambs, Antibodies, Girl with the D.T. etc. that aren't predictable or sloppy and poorly executed. "Red, White, and Blue" - A love story, wrapped up in a kidnapping and STD transmission situation. It's absolutely THE most disturbing film I've ever endured. Something about how "this could have/really happen(ed)."

Idk if you’ve ever mentioned the film “Trauma” in one of these videos, but holy effin eff, that movie stuck with me big time. I’ve seen so many disturbing movie lists with Salo & A Serbian Film on them and by this point I’m just like 🥱..
“Trauma” tho… omg. That opening scene was awful and then just got worse and worse. It will haunt my nightmares forever.

One of the more disturbing films I’ve seen is the Finnish film Dogs Don’t Wear Pants. It covers lots of taboo subjects. You feel sad and embarrassed for the main character, but then also you can sympathize with him in a weird dark corner of your mind.

I have seen Boxing Helena, and even though it was a long time ago, I remember a lot of details really well. "I'm going to the club!" Paxton was always the best at playing assholes. So you're right, it's pretty memorable!

I remember being in the cinema for "Boxing Helena" and I was distracted by other audience members as they were being disruptive. During one pivotal part of the film, the pair calmed down and began to show signs of behaving. Until one of them just suddenly vomited. The remainder of the showings for the film were shut down for the rest of the day. People were disgusted and wanted the couple banned. The others were disappointed in receiving gift certificates from the cinema.
3096 Days.. I can recall reading all about that story. But never knew there was a film about it.

There is this one movie I watched that just really got to me and I *rarely* seen it mentioned. In fact I watch your channel regularly (only subscribed now, because your videos come up so frequently in my youtube algorithm *almost* every time you make a video, I thought I had already subscribed) and I don't think you've mentioned the film, but it's called "The Great Ecstasy of Robert Carmichael." I watched it once... I think it was posted on youtube a while back, but I don't think it streams. You might have to find a copy on ebay or amazon, but it's another rare traumatically-disturbing film.
I have bought a copy of "Boxing Helena" and it sits on my shelf. I just have big issues with a lot of body horror films, and from what I heard about the film, I just get this "Dead Ringers" vibe from it-- a movie I waited 25 years to watch, and when I finally did I was so traumatized I could watch another film or TV show with Jeremy Irons--and I have watched a lot of disturbing films (A Serbian Film, Salos, Funny Games--or in reality most Haneke films can be classified as such). "Dead Ringers" just really hit a nerve with me. BUT I am a HUGE Lynch fan --David and Jennifer--and I know that one day I will need to see this.

Nonchalantly Psychotic!! Lollll … YES. that’s what, Boxing Helena feels like. The attitudes of the characters are so casual, that it’s bizarre. I loved this movie when it first came out, but I’m a David Lynch fan. The end was still a shock. I loved it! Thank you for the list!
