Unreal Engine 5: How To Fix Invisible/Missing Faces on a Model (Flipping Normals in Blender 3.0)

- If you've ever imported a mesh into Unreal Engine 5 and you noticed parts of it was missing/invisible, but in Blender it looks correct, you've probably have some backward normals that need to be flipped. In this tutorial, I explain what Normals are, how to view them in Blender and how to fix this issue.

Dude, I won't lie. I was not having any success. That is, until about 8:33, when you said to use a thicker box. My shape is not a box, but I added a solidify modifier to my shape and... boom success!
Thank you!
fixed it for me too
God bless you, this fixed it for me
Man i've been trying to figure this out the last couple days and this fixed it completely. Thanks for the awesome quick tutorials. Seriously a lifesaver
Thanks for the help man! Just a little bit of advice though, for tutorials like this I would recommend putting in chapters if nobody has time to understand why it happens and just wants it fixed. Saved my booty man thanks again!
okay, i'm late to the party but thank you so much i was wondering why it would work and sometimes not
not it's more clear, you saved me :)
thank you so much!! I was having so much trouble with some key shapes and I had no idea what was going on
Thanks for not adding music to the tutorial, it allows me to have mine in the background and doesn't interrupt my workflow
Super important notion for those who didn't know about the face orientation, you saved my life :D thx
thanks! was working for like 20 hours learning blender making my first model then realised half the faces were missing when importing into my game, this saved my bacon haha, really simple too
my problem is different.. i can see the faces in blender, but not in the ue any ideas?
thanks for the tips man the face orientation with the colors really helped a lot
Thanks bro you helped me with this issue!! GOAT
Happy to help
Easy to follow, plus funny laugh
Exactly what I was looking for! Thanks for the quick, fun, smart video!!!
muchas micuhas gracias hermano!!!
Much appreciated for the tip!
You bet!
you are the best 😎
Thaaaaank YOU!!!
everything looks fine in blender but its still partly invisible in ue5
thank you... you already save my life🥰
Thank you so much!... You literally saved my sanity as i had this trouble over 3 months 🤣💔... I worked really hard on a character of my own only to find out that it have this problem on its right arm and leg. Maybe because of the mirror modifier i used. But thanks to you i can now fix it. But i have a question about something.. I am modeling a simple cape from a plane with only one side.. Does that mean that one of the cape's sides will always be invisible?.. Do i have to make it thicker like you said about the box in the video?.. ...and thanks again for your help!
bro help plz
if i go inside the cube the problem will reversed
i cant see face from inside
That's an easy fix. You just have to load the cube into blender, apply a solidify modifier (which gives it some thickness) and you make sure the normals are the way you want them. Essentailly, whenever you need to be able to the faces from both the inside & outside, you need to simply "thicken" the model, just enough so that the outside & inside faces 2 different faces. that way the normals can each be facing the direction you want
Amazing!, fixed the issue!
you the best
Blender 4.1 This is no longer the fix. Tried exporting two of the same meshes, All normals facing outside. One mesh exported good, while the other is invisible. No fix available
Hey is there anyway I can do this face orientation thing Unreal itself, like I want to see face orientation color coded in UE itself.Thing is my data can't be imported in blender but it can be in UE 5 , I have complex intermingled data for which I have to correct normals and color coding makes it easy(in UE5) thanks.
I know how to flip normals in UE5 but this color coded thing would make my life easier.
ty
7:00 to 7:37 is when he ACTUALLY explains how to fix the problem you came to the video for.
fucking embarassing i hope barcode never makes a video again
when i import my fbx to ue5 its no textures is there a fix for that ?
You have to import the textures as well and create a material with them, then you can apply it to the mesh
I... Love yoooouuu!!! +1 sub
too much time
How can i fix it in UE5 ... not in blender?
