I think it's amazing how the Red Wings have used the exact same logo for decades without making any changes or even minor tweaks. Just goes to show you don't mess with perfection.

Were the playoffs just seeded 1-16 during the 70’d and early 80’s rather than having 2 1-8 conferences. Cause watching this it looks like the two conferences change every year.
Briefly, yes. '75-'79 the 4 division winners had byes and then 5-12 were seeded. '80 & '81 was purely seeded 1-16, and then divisional series returned in '82. (They did also re-align frequently with teams moving a lot during these years!)

Because it was either 4 to 6 team league until 1968. The higher you finish in the regular season often came with a bye in the playoffs. Most of these "original six" teams cups weren't that impressive to win. Sorry Montreal.
