I think my favorite thing about Ice Barriers is that they're the unholy amalgamation. A perfect marriage of everything Stun Andies hate about combo decks, and everything Combo Carls hate about stun. You wombo combo for sometimes quite a long while... to get your walking floodgates to drop on the board during your opponent's turn, then freeze them out of the game unless they have the very specific out to what you're doing. ...then if they DO out your engine... you float into a treated-as-synchro-summoned Trish and banish 3.
Reminds me of one of my all time favorite decks Virtual World. Can combo for 10 minutes to end on shenshen + caliga. It can be balls to the wall synchro climbing or it can just pass with Shenshen + skill drain. Don’t even get me started on calamities .

That's just good card design.
yeah and the newer floodgates are just enough to be ok while not being frustrating, some older cards are still frustrating but imo a optimal list shouldn't main deck them, only use them in the side for some match ups, so it's not a huge problem

Ice Barrier now can easily summon their synchro boss monsters and maintain their niche of being a floodgate-esque deck with their main deck monsters. Against certain decks, they are powerful, but against others, it can struggle. The almighty D-Shifter and Kashtira cards would make this much weaker in practice, but against most other decks, it will fair pretty well.

It’s still hard to believe that Ice Barrier is not only good now (relatively speaking), but it’s actually an interesting deck. Normally I really don’t like floodgates, but the Ice Barriers are just strong enough to make it challenging for the opponent to play without being oppressive. The board it puts up is very beatable, but if they mismanage their cards they can end up with very little gas in the tank. It’s really cool to see.
Any reason why we aren't playing Graydle Dragon? An offensive alternative to Crocodragon that is better at breaking boards going second and Mirror Master makes it by itself
Graydle is best used as a quick synchro target on the opponents turn, which the deck is not very good at, though I do think in this list there’s room for it as a Side card.
I’m always shocked when I see any reference to deck check in the wild because I personally view the show as a tax write off and assumed all the views were bots
I’m not sure how optimal it is, but I’ve been messing around with an Atlantean Ice Barrier list I found on an OCG forum a few months back and the combos are pretty crazy (even though everyone in the comments was just laughing at the guy). Instead of using revealer as your starter you play Deep Sea Diva (summoning Neptabyss). The lines change based on what extenders you have but the basic idea is that you dump mirror master with Spright Sprind and then do the full ice barrier combo after having resolved Minstrel and Moulinglacia.

To hammer the fact that ice barriers sucked, I should point that he played only 3 ice barriers from the original wave of support, which are general and warlock and medallion. So they didnt make ice barrier good, they made it from the ground up
Trishula. Medium in side. Also how many old decks that get playable after legacy support still play several OG cards without being explicitly forced to?
Yeah look at dragunity, only Dux and Phalanx are used between the OG's have you ever heard of Dragunity Primus Pilus, Angus or Militum? Nope. But the upcoming waves of support kept the spirit of their playability as a deck, and that's the point.
You can play Spellbreaker for 1st turn So opponent can't use spell while she is on field. And no need to wait till warlock and 1 other ice barrier on field. Spellbreaker only need discard 1 ice barrier and revealer in gy can banished to become alternative cost.
My question is why are water decks just floodgate turbo? Umi stun, Icejade, Ice Barrier. It's like that's just "the thing" konami thinks primary water decks should be.
Same reason blue decks in magic are almost all counterspell stun/control. When you make one attribute have cards of a specific play style you'll end up making more of that attribute with that play style so set 1 can work with set 2. Also earth and water both are "passive" elements, water reacts and fills whatever container you keep it in, and earth remains motionless in spite of what you do to it
You must be a new player that started recently. Back then we had a strong water deck called Mermail Atlanteons which were definitely NOT a stun or floodgate deck 😂
I thinks it's very funny that this marks the second water tribe from duel terminal lore that got a recent wave of support that was playable in spright. Maybe in a couple years we'll get Nekroz of Gigantic

ice barrier have lot of good card. the only problem is that until the recent support, there virtually no card that actually tie them together as a deck. led to member of the archetype used individually in other deck instead. the other thing is that many player using them wrong way. when using ice barrier, player supposed to fill the board with em, limiting their gameplay and gradually depleting opponent resources and only synchro to push for game. common mistake player do is that they synchro summon too early, resulting in numerous removal of ice barrier floodgating eff
I'm confused what the duelist in the 2nd duel was doing? Could've either banished or attacked over the level 4 Ice Barrier with Fenrir but just leaves it there unless they were under some attack and effect activation restriction then they messed up. Tried playing this with a bit of a ghoti core with Arionpos, keef and shif and some fish extenders for some higher value plays with better followup depending on some hands you can go Arionpos instead of Coral to search keef and three draws if you open the princess alongside speaker, freezing chains, medallion or george, keef itself is an excellent disruptor and advantage generator since Arionpos doesn't care about being synchro summoned to get its search effect, the bricks it introduces are a bit of a pain and accommodating fish does eat into your non-engine quite a bit but it does give the deck options into shifter.
