I was fortunate to see her sing Live in London a few years ago at the Hippodrome. As she sang, I thought ‘How on earth is that sound coming out of such a tall and lovely person ?’ It seemed as if she were miming, as the sound was so perfect. She wasn’t, obviously, she is just so well rehearsed and gifted. The people who write songs for her and produce her music are also extremely talented. I hope she becomes a huge star because her voice is something new; it is so pure and unique, and also doesn’t rely on Autotune or Melodyne like so many others. She is a miracle and long may she sing and bring such happiness to so many people.
Many thanks for posting Harriet singing a Carpenters song. I feel Harriet should embrace what she has in the closest resemblance to Karen's range and perform and record maybe tracks that Karen never managed to sing and not necessarily cover but do her own take on. She has a unique talent.
Why isn’t this woman touring everywhere? Karen had the most soothing voice in music history. All incredibly beautiful music. People need to celebrate her talent.
I love the voice from Karen Carpenter. On youtube i came across many singers who had a voice similar to Karen, but never good enough. Then a month ago i hear Tori Holub and she blow my mind. And then by total coincidence i found you. And then i was in OW......your voice is the best. I hope their will be a movie about Karen and the Carpenters and that you play the role of Karen You are 🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
I'm so glad she did this, I just discovered some of her original songs and was amazed at how close to Karen she sounds, I really hope she covers more of the Catpenters
Very nice! I did set the speed to 1.25 and it sounds more authentic to the original recording. To my ears it was dragging. Lovely, lovely voice and great interpretation. I picked up a bit of Celine Dion as well. She looks a lot like Celine.
I will admit that when I was first notified of this song being sung by Harriet on this YT channel, I refused to listen to it, despite LOVING Harriet's voice. NOBODY other than Karen has given this song a proper interpretation until now. I FINALLY listened to this version almost 9 months later and I sit here mesmerized and THRILLED at what I just heard. This is a bitch of a song to sing due to the long phrasing using only one breath on certain runs, and making it sound effortless. Harriet just did the same damn thing on the same phrase/run that Karen did in her version, but Harriet took a quick breath at the very end of the phrase, but it gave it Harriet's stamp, not Karen's - and both versions are exactly as they should be, individually interpreted and perfect for each singer. This particular arrangement may sound stripped if compared to the C's version, but Steve just gave us is Harriets gorgeous voice as the leading instrument, not overshadowed by an over-the-top building full of instruments shoving Harriets singing into the background. This is a GREAT arrangement featuring Harriet as the lead instrument throughout the song, yes including the lightly overdubbed ending. Well thought out and executed guys! Harriet 'gives' us the sound quality of Karen's voice through a gorgeous blonde and truly gifted singer, who in my opinion, is every bit the level of talent of not just Karen, but a singer/songwriter that really understands the crafting of a song, and most importantly, it's delivery sounding genuine. Harriet is in many ways, delivering us songs and a new interpretation of what, I like to think, Karen might sound like now had she worked with producers other than Richard (who I think is beyond a brilliant musician himself). Anything that Harriet sings has that quality and dedication that is instantly recognizable. Consistently excellent music that we are being gifted with from the one and only, Harriet. I am a HUGE fan and Harriet has become my go-to music on a regular basis and I know she will stand the test of time, God knows she has the talent! Thank you for sharing this with us @SteveAnderson, Continue to keep working together the way you are, the musical synergy comes through instantly in what your team presents us, the listening public. You are all a true class act!
Thank you so much for your incredibly kind words - we obviously put this off for a long time but felt when we finally were to do it we needed to put our own spin on it as the original is pure perfection. So happy you enjoyed it.
@@joshlymon I kind of figured that Harriet was NOT going to sing a 'Karen' song, due to the obvious and instant comparison flack she would have to endure. She may sound somewhat like Karen in her lovely low tones and vocal burn in phrasing, but it's unmistakeably Harriet giving us her best self - and it's of the same high level and caliber of the best singers on the planet. I've been a C's fan since 1970 and until Harriet let us hear her voice only a few years ago - we had nothing of Karen's quality on the airwaves since her passing. Now we do, and it's Harriets turn and spotlight. Keep it up Steve and the gang - just one request, please don't let the pace get too frenetic when Harriet's fame spreads worldwide on a huge scale, she's got the chops to be a world class celebrated singer, for the rest of her days and doesn't need to run through the fame as though it's going to disappear, her public will always help keep her voice and dream alive! Thanks for your reply Steve, I wasn't expecting it!
Yes, it should last a little longer. Cuz she sounds brilliant, more encore. Bows, and praise. I'll air this from April on like hell. On on all our stations.
Absolutely beautiful ! Love her voice and her writing. My most favourite artist right now. I am blown away by the number of people who have heard of her. The world deserves to be fully exposed to this remarkable young lady!
Harriet needs more exposure, not just as a Karen-sound alike but in her own right. I’ve bought all her music since I first heard Reach and she’s not a bad writer. Can’t wait to go and see her live post-pandemic!
Sounds somewhat eerie- Beautifully so. I love that she sings it straight and simple, with the first five words an homage to Karen Carpenter. Harriet sings with a hurt and innocence the song implies, and makes it her own. I wish she had ended it with the final word in the song, trailing off with its heavy reverb, echo. As it is the chorale ending is neatly done and sounds like a cry (intentional) But it’s too canned. Overall, it’s extremely effective and that’s very hard to do with a Carpenters hit. Well done.
I love how she sounds so much like Karen Carpenter! She can now sing all the songs that Karen would have sung if she had not passed away! Cannot wait to continue hearing Harriet sing other covers but her originals as well! How old is Harriet? I cannot find any bio info about her.
When I first heard you on the Graham Norton Christmas Show, I was struck by how close you sound to the late Karen Carpenter. I am glad you waited a few years before covering one of her songs. You stand on your own talent.
I just discovered Harriet by being refereed to another Karen Carpenter want-a-be. That one who so many proclaimed to be so good, I found fell well short of the great Karen Carpenter. Now Harriet comes so close that there are only minor differences. The one thing with The Carpenters is that she had extraordinary breath control and Harriet offers us the same. Plus the pitches she can control is wonderful.
Hi Harriet, I'm enjoying all your Carpenter's covers and wondering when you will cover Merry Christmas Darling? Also wondering why a half-step lower in the key?
Why the hesitation, the holding back? She's singing this song beautifully and very much like Karen. But it's one song and it's not like she could ever have the patience, talent, drive, or sometimes annoying brother to record the entire oeuvre. And in the recording studio magic happens. Actress Nicole Kidman sang for the movie "Moulin ROuge" but I learned first hand that her singing was spliced together word by word. She is no singer. This lady is. Kudos. - Frederic Kahler, Apalachicola, FL
A lot of people out there singing Karen’s music. And they’re all very talented. I see a lot of people comparing Tori and Harriet. The difference in only my opinion is Tori is trying to sound like Karen too much. Copy her i guess. Harriet isn’t doing that yet she sounds an awful lot like Karen. Her lower register really hits it. Tori is super talented as is Harriet. I prefer Harriet. More “natural”? 🤷
What a fantastic artist..I worked with Karen and Richard for about 6 years 1976-1982 and this blows me away..Great job
❤🇧🇷🇧🇷
awesome. what did you do with them?
Artist relations A&M Records
@@rck60s very cool...what an era of music back then
I have been following Harriet's journey for over 5 years now. I am so happy she did this. A tribute to two of my favorite artists.
Only just discovered Harriet. Wow, what a voice and the control. Harriet, you're just magic.

By far, the best cover of my favourite 'pop' song - a wonderful tribute to Karen Carpenter - absolutely superb - thank you, Harriet!
Love to see Harriet play Karen in a Carpenters film . Wow Wow Wow !!
Many thanks for posting Harriet singing a Carpenters song. I feel Harriet should embrace what she has in the closest resemblance to Karen's range and perform and record maybe tracks that Karen never managed to sing and not necessarily cover but do her own take on. She has a unique talent.
Oh my, how lucky are we to be blessed by this beautiful voice. God bless Karen Carpenter and Bless you Harriet😢❤️
Why isn’t this woman touring everywhere? Karen had the most soothing voice in music history. All incredibly beautiful music. People need to celebrate her talent.
She's touring in the UK now.
Amazing voice. Never tired of listening over and over again.💝💖💞
Such a talent. She should be a HUGE star and a household name. She has a terrific voice. Her lower register is so unique and melodic.
I'd love to hear her sing Superstar.
Absolutely
Beautiful, you have a privileged voice, Harriet.

Amazing
I don’t even know what to say. Uncanny
Très bien cette reprise, je ne connaissais pas cette chanteuse.
Great voice. If I’d have been producing this I would have picked up the voice and had her throw more emotion for longer runs.
Bello Harriet

I couldn’t even listen to it all the way through. It’s not cool to be sitting at work bawling like a baby😢
Gorgeous! 😂
Hi Harriet, I'm enjoying all your Carpenter's covers and wondering when you will cover Merry Christmas Darling? Also wondering why a half-step lower in the key?
. .if you could sing for me before sleep every night........
I grew up listening to The Carpenters because my darling Dad loved Karen's singing. This song always makes my eyes leak.
#Carpenter
WHEN was this song recorded???
Does Richard Carpenter know about you?
i only found this cause a girl i like is called harriet
Sounds so much like Karen Carpenter ❤
She sounds almost exactly like Karen Carpenter
Only 80% sound alike

You know if I close my eyes I SWEAR it is Karen that is singing.
No
Harriet voice is very identical to Karen....

I think Karen has been reincarnated
