The thing is Damon was trying to calm her down, but she didn't. Sire bond affects your actions, not your feelings. He couldn't told her to feel better or calm down, she would explode. He can't even force the sire bond to work this way because it doesn't work like that. The only way to help Elena was through action - turning of your humanity.
Yeah because a vampire without Humanity isn't going to hurt anyone and isn't going to rack up a body count that she's going to feel twice as bad about on top of her own personal grief. There were other things Damon could have told her to do, such as to hold it together because that's what Jeremy would want her to do because that's what Jenna would want her to do that's what John and Grayson and Miranda would want her to do period to hold herself together and to realize that the grief is finite and that there's a chance that Bonnie will be able to bring him back into hold on to that chance until the very last second

You have to figure this was Elenas breaking point, after she lost her parents and Jenna she had to keep it together for Jeremy. Then Alaric died too and now Jeremy plus her heightened emotions as a Vampire all came crashing down on her at once.

I didnt even realize..her breakdown isnt just losing jeremy, but losing him too soon. It's like the realization that she was gonna outlive him and didnt cherish every moment when she should have been. It's not just grief, it's guilt. And also that once again a loved one dies bc of her, legit EVERYONE of her family died bc of her. So she feels empty, lost, scared, guilty, sad, panicked...hell i'd turn it all off too😣
I've always wondered if Candice's concern was also real in the scene where Nina breaks down. It seems genuine then again she and Nina are both really good at facial expressions.
I always knew that Nina was an amazing actress, I mean she already played 2 big characters in this show but that crying scene made me just bow to her, she really deserved her main role.
Elena's breakdown scene still gives me chills to this day, even though i've seen it a hundred times. It's pure perfection, from the slow buildup to the soundtrack to the character's reactions and most importantly Nina's acting. It's beauty and sadness and just perfect!

I feel like Damon turning off her humanity also has a double meaning, when he says, her brother died I’m not enough, to me it shows that if Stefan died Elena wouldn’t be enough for Damon to be fine and shows how much he cared about Stefan, but that’s just how I interpret it :)

That look of pure panic on your face when you realize he's dead for good, my God! When it comes to Nina's acting, that's my favorite episode, absolutely phenomenal! I had chills the whole episode, the denial phase was so awful and painful to watch, wondering when Elena is gonna realise he's gone and was heartbroken when she did. And don't even get me started on the scene where Matt sees Jeremy's body and when he cries in his truck! There's this one moment after Damon's tell her to turn it off and she no emotions, chills everywhere, that was actually quite scary! Well, she does actually looked like Katherine! God this episode has me crying so damn much!

I just love Matt, I have no idea how people can hate him. I always start to tear up when Matt sees Jeremy's body, I think maybe because of how close Matt has been to the Gilberts, I think Matt has known Elena and Jeremy the longest. This episode is absolutely amazing though, one of those episodes that show why this show is so good.

people just don't like humans or people who can't be deemed 'useful' i've watched a lot of reactions to tvd and a lot of men (obviously not jer), in particular, a lot of times don't like characters unless they are 'powerful' so the go-to is to hate human characters because they don't have abilities i also think people dislike matt because they didn't give him the best plot lines and kind of didn't know what to do with his character at times i feel like the books utilize him better even though he's just a human in those too but yeah, that doesn't mean he's a 'bad character' i love his heart to heart scenes he has with elena a lot of the times, some of the best scenes & to the person above, bonnie also doesn't love vampires but it doesn't mean she's not an amazing character as well

Honestly turning off your emotions and having an “on off switch” is one of the best powers of being a vampires imo. Especially they portrayed it as you having more control over it like they do sometimes. More that true control of “switching it on and off”

I don't want to make light of this situation, because Elena is truly destroyed, but every time I watch this episode I think of when Lisa Lefteye Lopez, from TLC, burns down her boyfriends house (IRL). She was so hurt about something that he did that she burned a pair of his shoes and kept putting stuff on the flames, until the whole dang house burned to the ground. I think Elena did the same thing, she was so hurt all she could do was burn that house to the ground. (Can't blame her with two sets of dead parents, a dead foster parent, and a dead brother). It is a hard episode to watch but a good one...
Nina’s acting was phenomenal here. I often go back-and-forth with whether Damon had much of a choice in telling Elena to turn it off. In one way, I think that he probably could have talked her down. But on the other hand, if he lost his brother he would probably want to turn it off too. When it comes to Elena, Damon will often base his decisions on what he would do if it was happening to him. What would be less pain for her right now and then worry about consequences later.
Well her plotline in this season is actually interesting, but it's just sad because it's about her basically being manipulated. Would have been nicer seeing Bonnie actually process what the fuck happened to her mind this season..

There's so many good episodes this season it would be hard to choose! This episode was one of the slower ones plus super sad so personally i don't really like it, but it does have one of the best performances of show!
Meh. At this point in watching the show, Matt didn't really bother me. He was just kinda there. Occasional annoyance but that was it. It just occurred to me that Tyler could have called Caroline anytime. Could have switched phones or at least called from random phones from time to time. I already hated him but that made me hate him all the more.

This person is almost impossible to avoid, you see him everywhere. I think this person is a troll honestly who wants to messing up the comment section. Jeremy should have mods, I think this would be more cool for him to read the comments and for viewers to not have a notification of a troll when you just want to talk with others about the show and the episodes.

Usually you can interact with people and any time you get a notification you know it's someone discussing the video or show. It may sound silly but I actually quite enjoy the little community that these reactions have created, I love seeing the same people under every video and people who wouldn't interact outside of this comment section having a conversation. Hopefully trolls don't become a common thing, we'd done so well to avoid them for so long!

There's so many good episodes this season it would be hard to choose! This episode was one of the slower ones plus super sad so personally i don't really like it, but it does have one of the best performances of show!

Meh. At this point in watching the show, Matt didn't really bother me. He was just kinda there. Occasional annoyance but that was it.
It just occurred to me that Tyler could have called Caroline anytime. Could have switched phones or at least called from random phones from time to time. I already hated him but that made me hate him all the more.
Not sure if there's anything you could do about it even if you wanted to,but just so you know there's a person called "Nishant Kumar" who's commented on the past few videos, just so you're aware majority of their comments contain spoilers. Not sure if they're doing it on purpose or not, but just so you know!

This person is almost impossible to avoid, you see him everywhere. I think this person is a troll honestly who wants to messing up the comment section. Jeremy should have mods, I think this would be more cool for him to read the comments and for viewers to not have a notification of a troll when you just want to talk with others about the show and the episodes.

@@pyxelly0506 yeah it really puts on dimmer on the usual amazing atmosphere going on in the comments. Usually you can interact with people and any time you get a notification you know it's someone discussing the video or show.
It may sound silly but I actually quite enjoy the little community that these reactions have created, I love seeing the same people under every video and people who wouldn't interact outside of this comment section having a conversation. Hopefully trolls don't become a common thing, we'd done so well to avoid them for so long!
