- Talk's Alex Phillips is joined by security expert Will Geddes to discuss the recent explosions in Lebanon, attributed to Mossad, which killed 12 and reportedly injured thousands.
Hand-held radios used by armed group Hezbollah detonated on Wednesday across Lebanon's south in the country's deadliest day since cross-border fighting erupted between the militants and Israel nearly a year ago, stoking tensions after similar explosions of the group's pagers the day before.
Lebanon's health ministry said 20 people were killed and more than 450 injured on Wednesday in Beirut's suburbs and the Bekaa Valley, while the death toll from Tuesday's explosions rose to 12, including two children, with nearly 3,000 injured.

definitely explosives not overheating battery !! overheating is not a guaranteed or predictable event, these devices all exploded instantly on receipt of a signal . Geddes is wrong.
Expert?? There's absolutely no way that they are just overheating the battery to cause these explosions. There is clearly a few grams of explosive material at the very least. I don't think anyone has ever been killed by a Lithium battery explosion, maybe by the following fire but not by the force of the explosion itself. If these devices are old as well, they won't have lithium batteries - they'll be ni-cad's.

Only one issue with this. I have watched many many lithium battery's "explode" and they don't blow up. They have whats called thermal runaway where they turn into a blow torch that cant be put out with water. They release crazy toxic gasses. But don't go bang.

This so called expert is very wrong, lithium batteries had little to do with the initial explosion, this was grams of military explosive. using the pager/radio network to send the detonate message. Likely the pagers were hacked and disabled prior forcing an exchange with the explosive units. Totally agree about ruining hez's comms. I do think the IDF could have taken it a step further and have troops going into the hospitals to collect persons of interest.

Also to avoid panic, lithium batteries can and do go up, but they rarely explode, its more flare like and smoke, with the lack of smoke this cant be a lithium battery thermal runaway.
Solar panels simply collect electrons and pass them to an inverter, some may have a mini inverter on the back, but they have nothing that can go boom, next time get a decent "security expert" please

I think they did plant extra parts in these devices. I also think we are hearing about it being simply a hack to over heat the battery in an attempt to get bad actors to abandon all battery powered devices.

I have spoken to many people in the tech space that are familiar with Israels capabilities and there is absolutely zero doubt they are capable of taking out a countries' whole electrical grid with the simple click of a mouse. These people are using like 10% of their resources.
