Concordia is a fantastic game. Action cards give you a different option to build your trading empire, where area control starts the basis for building and trading resources. Scoring only is made after game is over, which keeps the game fresh during end game. Plenty of replay ability too.
OMG you have Wonderland's War up there. Nice to see it getting some love. Oh and of course Dice Throne. I'm pretty sure it was one of your older videos that got me interested in Dice Throne and it's also my first board game that I really really loved. So, I guess it thanks to you that I discovered my absolute favorite game.
We played Agricola for the first time a few days ago and LOVED it (sorry Jamie). Our first play through we just rushed for time but we're super excited to try out new strategies again hopefully soon!!
My wife HATED Agricola - the Board Game when I got it. I kept telling her how much I loved it and she finally bought the App from the Apple Store. She has now played it 100s of times and absolutely LOVES IT!
I'm with Jeff. Dune Imperium is so good. I love the player interaction and tension in the game. I've played with both Rise of Ix and Immortality expansions and they make a fantastic game even better.
me and my group loved it too, we have a tight budget for boardgames, my 1st impression was bad like "did i make a bad decision buying this game" because it kinda (idk feeling), but after our 2nd game it clicked! like u said player interaction and tension its so fun love the leaders too,,i only have the base game need to keep some money for the expansion :) and yes its better than Arnak XD

We enjoy it at 2 but it’s certainly not ideal as you lose the bidding mechanic, which we enjoy a ton. I wouldn’t buy it if I was only ever to play it at 2 but it shines at 3 IMO

Every year, I watch top 10 videos like this to see what I might be missing out on (if I don't already own them). This year, Dune Imperium and Arnak are currently in a battle to the death against my better judgement, while Wonderlands War just defeated my better judgement last week 🤬 Love seeing The Confrontation on the list! 👍 P.S. I love watching these top 10 lists. There's always a game or 2 that I don't know much about, (Vast Crystal Caverns?). I also always wonder what games they have played - (from which I can figure out which games they HAVEN'T played). For example, there are 57 games in the BGG top 100 that I've never played.
Dune imperium is a tighter game for sure but Arnak is just so much more appealing thematically and aesthetically so I'm with Jamie on that one. Brass Birmingham is my #1 game of all-time though so i'm with Jeff on that one.
both games are good, i agree about the aesthetics of arnak being better its beautiful to look at, but for me and my group Dune Imperium tightness and tension makes us like it more than Arnak and also the leaders too
Definitely a matter of Opinion for sure! I love Dune so I’d argue the opposite of this. That’s why these lists are so subjective though! Something for everyone in this hobby

Everdell is one of my family's favorite games! Theres a bigger depth of strategy than appears at the surface! The Spirecrest expansion adds a whole other layer of immersion into the game too. We never play without it! And we have added a house rule, that once per game, you can choose to purchase 2 of the 3 discovery card options, instead of just one from the Spirecrest board. I feel like it makes the game feel a bit more fun when having working against the annoying bad weather cards. I'm still discovering new strategies to victory every time I play. No 2 games are the same! There are cards I would just ignore thinking they werent that great, to finally giving them a shot and racking up loads of points with them! Getting the big critter Honey paw which gives you loads of berries, and combo-ing him with the Monk card (pay berries for points during production) and the Doctor (a similar card)....AND THEN getting chip sweep and miner mole cards to continue activating the monk and doctor turning berries into points, and you will be surprised how many points you can rack up as long as you have a consistent berry supply. It is a wonderful game that's still dishing out fun and new experiences and it will NEVER leave my collection. Everyone I show it to just gets so lost in the little world of everdell! I could go on and on! Jamie! If you havent played this much and havent tried the Spirecrest expansion, I could see it being one of your faves if you do!
Great List as usual! I think it's time to pick up Res Arcana especially since I pick it up every time my girlfriend and I are at our FLGS, but never buy it (ugh). And the hat is great. It definitely is Ein from Cowboy Bebop which is a perfect gateway into the world of anime. Nice Work!

Guys seriously…I love Catan, but I’m also very new to the hobby. My wife and her family enjoys the game which I think makes me love it even more. What are some good games similar to Catan that I can use to help her and her family branch out?
To my knowledge there is nothing similar to Catan. However, you may want to try other gateway games such as Ticket to Ride, Carcassonne, and Clank. TtR is a route building game. Carcassonne is a tile laying game and Clank is a deck building game. I love Catan and stayed within the family before I branched out. Some recommendations are Rivals of Catan (a 2 player card game version of Catan) and Spacefarers of Catan (has a choose your own adventure kind of feel to it).
@@djseitz425 Make sure you watch how to play videos of Brass Birmingham. On BGG, it has a high complexity rating and the Rulebook is not easy to follow. However, once you learn it, it is easy to teach to others. I'm not a huge fan of economic boardgames but it is highly rated in BGG. If you and your family enjoy economic boardgames, I highly recommend Carnegie. The boards are beautiful and the theme mostly fits with game mechanic. Carnegie was an industrialist but also a philanthropist. The game reflects that in that you and the other players are building (your player board) and growing (the main board) your company. The charities, which are divided into 4 areas, are your end game goals.

Decided on getting Fuji Flush based on this video. Only a German edition was available at my LGS but I'm sure I can figure out the rules from BGG. Heard the game is more interesting with the variant of being dealt one extra card and winner only has to shed down to 1 card. I can't believe Dune Imperium with Rise of Ix can be improved upon, but Immortality makes it even better. No surprise Wingspan is #1 for patreons. It's such a popular game. Would be surprised if it doesn't top DT top people's list again this year.

Dune Imperium expansions are really good.. especially the first one.. something something Ix. It fixes some of the problems of the first game. The second expansion, Immorality, is something you can add later. It's like adding wild cards to a poker game -- you can add it or play without it.
I followed ya’lls advice on going on Marketplace to find games and got Agricola (Rev) for only $20 and it had only been played once. SUCH an addicting game, I don’t get Jamie’s hate 😂

Vast is awesome, but I've only played it 2 times cause can never find the people to play with. You guys should play super fantasy brawl if you haven't yet, is a simple 2 player skirmish game but feel yall really like it

I've had too many bad plays of Villainous at this point. Anything above 3 gets too long, and there are too many rules gaps in how things function in the newest characters, where we end up arguing to figure out what it means.
I love Rosenberg games as well but Like Jamie, Agricola is pretty low on my list. My Favorites are Le Havre, Ora et Labora, At the Gates of Loyang and Nusfjord. To be fair though, I've never tried Feast for Odin due to it's cost and amount of stuff in the box! I think my group would take days to learn it, lol.
AFFO isn’t overly complicated to play. It’s actually super simple. The complexity is in knowing what each space does and how to maximize those spaces for your strategy!

I guess you already know, but there exists this fandom page about fanmade expansions for Villainous. It's not as good as the official expansions, but here you can find a lot of cool characters like the whale in Pinocchio or Oogie Boogie or Bill Cipher. You can print some of them but most of them are only avaible for tabletop simulator. Sorry if my english is bad, I love your videos
Great lists! My taste in games seems to be more in line with Jamie's, and Dice Throne and Final Girl both making her Top 5 put me squarely on Team Jamie. Although I am very interested in this Vast Crystal Craverns game Jeff was talking about.

Do you despise Res Arcana too Jamie? it looked like it. its SO GOOD and the box design is amazing,and integrates the first two expansions perfectly in core box, and both expansions are super fun and easy to add in! Im a huge Race for the Galaxy fan too, praise Tom Lehmann Dune Imperium is my groups fave/most requested game by far from last few years, and have had Dune and nonDune fans love it (though im a fan). and if Jaime loves a fight...i dont get the hate. this game is amazing. and you HAVE to try out the Ix tech expansion asap. spice usage, how you get solari, and the importance of the guild faction all get a good boost and game feels even more complete. And immortlity is super cool but not as essential and less elegant, though does really amp up the deckbuilding options and impact. to me in comparison, arnak was a snoozefest Euro point salad with pasted on generic theme, and the deckbuilding part doesnt cycle much. not bad, but much more forgettable. I see the Dune vs arnak talk alot, esp given the similar release time and overlapping core mechanics. but really? these games are nothing alike gameplay wise. and Dune is AMAZING and the other is a point salad du jour, shrug. sorry not sorry Jaime. why don't you like Dune? ps: I think concordia is dry and overrated myself, but has cool ideas that i hope another game uses better and fires it. I kept trying to like it as much as others and see the appeal, but something isnt right for me after a few plays so ive moved on. Im so over generic trading in the mediterranean themes too.

You can't go wrong with Lacerda so just go with the game that has the theme that appeals most to you. Having said that, following Kanban I would go Lisboa, Vinhos, Gallerist in that order. Of the ones you didn't mention I think you would both *love* Escape Plan.
To me the most enjoyable Lacerda game is Escape Plan! IT is really fun escaping the police and collecting all the stashed-away money! I am not a big fan of Castles of Burgundy, I am ready to sell it, but I do enjoy Agricola.
Attended Niagara Boardgame Weekend and tried 2 games because of you 2. Wonderland's War and Scout. Wonderland's War is so incredible but unfortunately incredibly expensive as well. Scout is fun maybe need to give it another try. Also Lost Ruins of Arnak is superior to Dune Imperium.
Jamie, I too don't like Agricola. Feeding your family is the "not fun" kind of stressful and the I generally don't like games where you have to have your hand in everything. The worse are the the deck of cards that make the game very swingy. Having said that, I highly recommend you try Caverna. It has been referred to as Agricola 2.0. It has more of a comical/fantasy feel to it where you are a dwarf. There are the typical Agricola stuff like farming, raising animals, building your home/family but you also dig like dwarves do and go on adventures. Feeding your family is less stressful and you don't get penalized as much if you did not do a bit of everything. My friend who really liked Agricola, loves Caverna to the point that it has replaced it.
This was a nice little top ten. I don’t have a lot in common with either list, but they’re both good games. The one thing that was KILLING me was her use of classic though. I don’t think any games she called classic were older than maybe 15 years lol It’s not a big deal, I just get very uppity about what is considered modern gaming (I say past 10 years) and what’s considered a class (I say at least 25 years old)
I don’t think it’s something worth getting uppity about. Everyone enters this hobby at a different time. Everyone has different opinions and nobody is more right than anyone else!
The Oceania expansion to Wingspan is totally worth it. It allows you to get your engine clicking earlier, which is more fun and less frustrating.

Yes! But not every time. Usually when we play it it’s on BGA or we are showing it to a new player so just base. But the expansions are awesome

I recommend Concordia. Took me forever to finally get it but it was worth it! Easy to understand, euro-ey game that is a good mix of mechanisms.

Ditto, I just recently was introduced to it and have played it twice. It’s a good combo of deck building, worker placement, resource management.. highly recommend I think you guys would like it.

How does Wonderlands War work with two? I didn't realize it was so dynamic...
We enjoy it at 2 but it’s certainly not ideal as you lose the bidding mechanic, which we enjoy a ton. I wouldn’t buy it if I was only ever to play it at 2 but it shines at 3 IMO
Only 10 seconds into this video and my mouth is already drooling...It may sound like I love Top 10 board game videos, but it's those damn Sour Patch! 🤤 And I love top 10 board game videos too. Every year, I watch top 10 videos like this to see what I might be missing out on (if I don't already own them). This year, Dune Imperium and Arnak are currently in a battle to the death against my better judgement, while Wonderlands War just defeated my better judgement last week 🤬

I love watching these top 10 lists. There's always a game or 2 that I don't know much about, (Vast Crystal Caverns?). I also always wonder what games they have played - (from which I can figure out which games they HAVEN'T played). For example, there are 57 games in the BGG top 100 that I've never played.

Dune imperium is a tighter game for sure but Arnak is just so much more appealing thematically and aesthetically so I'm with Jamie on that one. Brass Birmingham is my #1 game of all-time though so i'm with Jeff on that one.
both games are good, i agree about the aesthetics of arnak being better its beautiful to look at, but for me and my group Dune Imperium tightness and tension makes us like it more than Arnak and also the leaders too

Everdell is one of my family's favorite games! Theres a bigger depth of strategy than appears at the surface! The Spirecrest expansion adds a whole other layer of immersion into the game too. We never play without it! And we have added a house rule, that once per game, you can choose to purchase 2 of the 3 discovery card options, instead of just one from the Spirecrest board. I feel like it makes the game feel a bit more fun when having working against the annoying bad weather cards. I'm still discovering new strategies to victory every time I play. No 2 games are the same! There are cards I would just ignore thinking they werent that great, to finally giving them a shot and racking up loads of points with them! Getting the big critter Honey paw which gives you loads of berries, and combo-ing him with the Monk card (pay berries for points during production) and the Doctor (a similar card)....AND THEN getting chip sweep and miner mole cards to continue activating the monk and doctor turning berries into points, and you will be surprised how many points you can rack up as long as you have a consistent berry supply. It is a wonderful game that's still dishing out fun and new experiences and it will NEVER leave my collection. Everyone I show it to just gets so lost in the little world of everdell! I could go on and on! Jamie! If you havent played this much and havent tried the Spirecrest expansion, I could see it being one of your faves if you do!

Guys seriously…I love Catan, but I’m also very new to the hobby. My wife and her family enjoys the game which I think makes me love it even more. What are some good games similar to Catan that I can use to help her and her family branch out?
To my knowledge there is nothing similar to Catan. However, you may want to try other gateway games such as Ticket to Ride, Carcassonne, and Clank. TtR is a route building game. Carcassonne is a tile laying game and Clank is a deck building game.
I love Catan and stayed within the family before I branched out. Some recommendations are Rivals of Catan (a 2 player card game version of Catan) and Spacefarers of Catan (has a choose your own adventure kind of feel to it).
I’m not sure what would be similar but we’ve had success introducing games like Azul, Ticket to Ride, Clank, Kingdomino.

@@djseitz425 Make sure you watch how to play videos of Brass Birmingham. On BGG, it has a high complexity rating and the Rulebook is not easy to follow. However, once you learn it, it is easy to teach to others. I'm not a huge fan of economic boardgames but it is highly rated in BGG.
If you and your family enjoy economic boardgames, I highly recommend Carnegie. The boards are beautiful and the theme mostly fits with game mechanic. Carnegie was an industrialist but also a philanthropist. The game reflects that in that you and the other players are building (your player board) and growing (the main board) your company. The charities, which are divided into 4 areas, are your end game goals.

@@jokerES2 only reason I think we will get a reveal is because they are going to want to do something for Disney 100th anniversary and 2. Because both Star wars and regular are in targets database with names and prices.

Decided on getting Fuji Flush based on this video. Only a German edition was available at my LGS but I'm sure I can figure out the rules from BGG. Heard the game is more interesting with the variant of being dealt one extra card and winner only has to shed down to 1 card.
I can't believe Dune Imperium with Rise of Ix can be improved upon, but Immortality makes it even better.
No surprise Wingspan is #1 for patreons. It's such a popular game. Would be surprised if it doesn't top DT top people's list again this year.

Dune Imperium expansions are really good.. especially the first one.. something something Ix. It fixes some of the problems of the first game. The second expansion, Immorality, is something you can add later. It's like adding wild cards to a poker game -- you can add it or play without it.

There’s literally nothing wrong with Villainous lol.
I've had too many bad plays of Villainous at this point. Anything above 3 gets too long, and there are too many rules gaps in how things function in the newest characters, where we end up arguing to figure out what it means.

I love Rosenberg games as well but Like Jamie, Agricola is pretty low on my list. My Favorites are Le Havre, Ora et Labora, At the Gates of Loyang and Nusfjord. To be fair though, I've never tried Feast for Odin due to it's cost and amount of stuff in the box! I think my group would take days to learn it, lol.
AFFO isn’t overly complicated to play. It’s actually super simple. The complexity is in knowing what each space does and how to maximize those spaces for your strategy!

I guess you already know, but there exists this fandom page about fanmade expansions for Villainous. It's not as good as the official expansions, but here you can find a lot of cool characters like the whale in Pinocchio or Oogie Boogie or Bill Cipher. You can print some of them but most of them are only avaible for tabletop simulator. Sorry if my english is bad, I love your videos

Do you despise Res Arcana too Jamie? it looked like it. its SO GOOD and the box design is amazing,and integrates the first two expansions perfectly in core box, and both expansions are super fun and easy to add in! Im a huge Race for the Galaxy fan too, praise Tom Lehmann
Dune Imperium is my groups fave/most requested game by far from last few years, and have had Dune and nonDune fans love it (though im a fan). and if Jaime loves a fight...i dont get the hate. this game is amazing. and you HAVE to try out the Ix tech expansion asap. spice usage, how you get solari, and the importance of the guild faction all get a good boost and game feels even more complete. And immortlity is super cool but not as essential and less elegant, though does really amp up the deckbuilding options and impact. to me in comparison, arnak was a snoozefest Euro point salad with pasted on generic theme, and the deckbuilding part doesnt cycle much. not bad, but much more forgettable. I see the Dune vs arnak talk alot, esp given the similar release time and overlapping core mechanics. but really? these games are nothing alike gameplay wise. and Dune is AMAZING and the other is a point salad du jour, shrug. sorry not sorry Jaime. why don't you like Dune?
ps: I think concordia is dry and overrated myself, but has cool ideas that i hope another game uses better and fires it. I kept trying to like it as much as others and see the appeal, but something isnt right for me after a few plays so ive moved on. Im so over generic trading in the mediterranean themes too.

You can't go wrong with Lacerda so just go with the game that has the theme that appeals most to you. Having said that, following Kanban I would go Lisboa, Vinhos, Gallerist in that order. Of the ones you didn't mention I think you would both *love* Escape Plan.

To me the most enjoyable Lacerda game is Escape Plan! IT is really fun escaping the police and collecting all the stashed-away money! I am not a big fan of Castles of Burgundy, I am ready to sell it, but I do enjoy Agricola.

Attended Niagara Boardgame Weekend and tried 2 games because of you 2. Wonderland's War and Scout. Wonderland's War is so incredible but unfortunately incredibly expensive as well. Scout is fun maybe need to give it another try. Also Lost Ruins of Arnak is superior to Dune Imperium.

Jamie, I too don't like Agricola. Feeding your family is the "not fun" kind of stressful and the I generally don't like games where you have to have your hand in everything. The worse are the the deck of cards that make the game very swingy.
Having said that, I highly recommend you try Caverna. It has been referred to as Agricola 2.0. It has more of a comical/fantasy feel to it where you are a dwarf. There are the typical Agricola stuff like farming, raising animals, building your home/family but you also dig like dwarves do and go on adventures. Feeding your family is less stressful and you don't get penalized as much if you did not do a bit of everything.
My friend who really liked Agricola, loves Caverna to the point that it has replaced it.

This was a nice little top ten. I don’t have a lot in common with either list, but they’re both good games.
The one thing that was KILLING me was her use of classic though. I don’t think any games she called classic were older than maybe 15 years lol
It’s not a big deal, I just get very uppity about what is considered modern gaming (I say past 10 years) and what’s considered a class (I say at least 25 years old)
I don’t think it’s something worth getting uppity about. Everyone enters this hobby at a different time. Everyone has different opinions and nobody is more right than anyone else!
