Skateboarding RUclips has gone for so long with non-pros leading the way. It's insane to see how a pro like Tom Asta is on such a different level. The number of skaters that can flip in or flip out is so small yet this content is fire!
Also cuz he approaches tricks differently. He's explaining how he thinks about approaching a trick coming from a true professional level. U wouldn't want to learn how to play guitar from someone who's just learning, would U? Makes WAY more sense the way Tom approaches and explains cuz of his EXPERIENCE, board control and MANY, MANY hours of doing these tricks for YEARS. He also doesn't have to worry about views, cuz his profession is NOT being a RUclipsr. He's a skater first. This is what "how to" videos should look like. From a PROfessional.
i agree, thats why ill always put in almost all of the trys if not literally every singele one depending on how long it takes...i think thats huge on understading tricks THANKS for watching
Tom, you're a natural at this type of content. Please keep going! You have a really great way of explaining things in a way that most people will understand. And it's sick to see someone with your skateboarding talent helping out the community.
I freaking love the way how you stick your back hand out for kickflip back tails. Your Strange World part is still one of my favorites. I also love how TJ Rogers actually bigspins in and out of tricks. Love it!
Damm, Switch heel grind first try...nice tips and tricks man, keep up, knowledge to pass to other is the best thing to do G, all the best my favorite "eat ledger"
Shame that the rain came at the end but your video is still full of information and solid skating! The generation nowadays are lucky to have your channel to enjoy watching you skate and give advice while learning. 🔥
Perfect timing posting this video! my kickflips recently became the most controlled they’ve ever been and I can finally start confidently flipping in to grinds and slides. Thanks for the tips!
Ronnie Creager was one of the first skater to do flip in and flip out,so when 'es video coming out i watching his part his part and skating all day trying that stuff:very good memories. At this days you bring it to another level.
I feel like mentally we look at a lot of tricks in the same way. Even the way you learn tricks is so similar to how I do it too. Your explanations of the tricks are so on point and help me understand what I need to do to complete it and land it.
When you were talking about kickflip noserginds, and how people dive the nose too much, a good tip I think is to think of the lock in part as like you’re trying to lock into a kf nose manual. That always helped me get up onto the ledge better
Brotha your mystery color theory part came out my freshman year of highschool & I've been watching you skate ever since. Keep killing it man wish I had these videos available when i was starting out skating
I think this is the next step in my skateboarding progression, i randomly started trying varial flips into 5050s one day and landed quite a few nice ones now that i got a small fix i need more
Man I have so much respect for you East Coast skaters having to deal with insane weather... not just for skating but just daily life too lol. I can't imagine the heartbreak every morning you wanna skate and then you see the rain out the window. You all have strong willpower
That sw heel 5-0 was Clutch. I hope you never stop skating. You're a Ledgend!! Get it? Seriously tho, we don't deserve these videos. Props to you for giving trick tips for the love of it. Beyond your steez and trick selection, you have such a good attitude man and that is the coolest thing about you
Thanks Tom. These videos really motivate me to get out there and start skating again!! I miss the feeling of landing a new trick. Especially something tech on a ledge. If I can get back to the level I was at 20 years ago, I really want to learn how to flip out. I had kickflip backside tail slides down, and kickflip frontside/backside nose slides down. Kickflip frontside tail slides are hard af. I’ll even post videos haha.
Not necessarily a ‘flip in’ skater but I love it when Tom Knox flips into tricks, always such a quick flick, POW!!! That guys is so sick, much like yourself!!
Loving your videos man! Even though I'll probably never get to flip in or flip outs now that I'm mid 30s, still love watching you skate in this format. Your style is beautiful. love from Aus
Thank you for this! Definitely provides confirmation of a lot of things I've noticed lately when experimenting more with flip-ins. Particularly the flick speed and getting the board over the ledge before moving it into position (not "diving" it in, etc.).
Amazing tips Bro, thanks so much! I'm gonna try your tip for the 50 putting front foot on the curb next session for sw kickflip bs 50. So hyped on it Man!
Tom, love ya! Im an old school Jon Allie style skater, back when we each had to figure it out. Gotta say, I think I got flip in's better lol thanks for the video. I check the fllip outs.
Dude the process is the best. It’s great to know pros like yourself don’t land everything every single try. In the most humble way. Things take time, especially dope tricks with amazing style. Good stuff again my dude. Much love from Vegas.
Thanks so much for this Tom! I’ve done front heel tail slide , been wanting to do Kickflip in as well. After watching this you broke it down and it makes alot more sense approaching it now! 🙏🏻
Absolutely insane! It's so good to see someone of your skill level breaking this stuff down and the editing, and jump cuts in the beginning monologue is something alot of people don't think about but really helps pacing. Keep it up brother!

P-Rod and Greg Lutzka are my two favorite Kickflip-in skaters. P-Rod’s bag of tricks makes him more confident and clean flipping into almost anything. Greg Lutzka is so quick with kickflips that when he flips into a trick, the flick looks like it never happened. Magic. PJ Ladd is really good with them too. PJ just flips out of tricks better to me than his flip-in tricks.
I totally agree with what you said about kickflip boardslides (I’m thinking kf front boards mostly). I do flip ins a lot, and one of my fav rail tricks is kf back lip, but I have probably done less than 20 kf front boards in my life. Hell, even kf front feeble, or front blunt on a flatbar is less scary to me than a kf front board. It could be just that I skipped that trick growing up, but they have never felt comfy for me
haha i feel you, i was always cozy with kickflip back lips as well, just the way the board flips into it or something seems safer...and alot of those other tricks makes it easy to get a foot on the rail or something if the flip goes bad...boardslides just feel so exposed haha...THANKS for watching
Tech skating is definitely my favorite genre of skating, it takes a ton of precision! Been flipping in for a while now myself, I struggle with heelflipping in, though I just recently got treflips into 5050s, next move is tre front nosegrind, and treflip noseslide in my case. Wish I could kickflip nosegrind, def one of my fav tricks and you have the best one I've seen! Love the content big dawg!
Sick video was hoping to see the nollie flip crook hopefully next video you cover that and my favorite kickflip in is probably Antwuan in Baker 3 when he does a kickflip crook and doesn't even move his arms above his waist

My bff Nyjah taught me how to flip in. After a night of drinking titos we decided to skate this really cute ledge. After Jah did his yoga which include the splits because he's soooo flexible, he went straight to flipping into all the grinds. I wanted to try.
