Now if only it were fun. ...kidding, I'm sure it's great, but it bugs me how he just grabs onto everything. I've only ever played like 5-6 hours of Black Flag, so I'm sure I'm just not giving it a fair chance (I didn't like BL2 at first, but love it now). I do wish Switch either had more demos, some sort of return policy under "x" amount of play time, or both. Dunno why I'm complaining, it was on sale for like $10.
God 2007 is still a GOD-TIER year in video gaming. I still think it's the greatest year of releases of all time! Halo 3, BioShock, Mass Effect, Half-Life 2: Orange Box (Team Fortress 2, Portal, and Episode 2 all new releases on that), Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Assassin's Creed, and many more. 2007 birthed more huge franchises, or contained the biggest releases of previously established franchises, than any other year I can recall.
@@Original-Juice agreed. I graduated in '07 and I would've gotten into all sorts of debauchery my first year of college if not for gaming taking all my time lol.

This channel is so far above every other channel in terms of quality, production value, narration, and entertaining/interesting topics that I can't believe it's not a series on television or a paid streaming service like Netflix or Hulu. My only wish would be more frequent smaller releases in between larger ones like this. Keep up the great work👍🏽

It's ironic that Assassin's Creed was born because of the narrative limitations of Prince of Persia, considering that nowadays AC has little to do with Assassins and even less with their Creeds. Goes to show the massive gap in creative integrity between old and current Ubisoft.
Okay but it honestly makes sense. Think about it. The creed hasn't fully formed in most of these games. Even in the newest one that's gonna come out they're still called hidden ones not assassins, the last three games have been showing important events leading up to what i assume is the full formation of the creed and the finalt of present day conflict between assassins and templars. So logically it makes sense that eivor, alexios/kassandra, and bayek wouldn't fight using the creeds rules. Hopeful in mirage as the creed is gaining formation we get more stealth gameplay. Not only this but it's entirely up to the player to play stealthily in these games. You have the option to be a warrior or be a stealthy assassin, this was also shown in syndicate where jacob was built for more head on combat while evie was more stealthy. However i do believe narratively they are lacking in some parts, I also believe they could do without all the constant gear changes as it takes away from the old style of game play. However people complaining saying that it doesn't feel the same because it's not really assassins feels like jusy a nitpick because eivor was raised as a viking not an assassin and alexios/kassandra came before the assassins. Even bayek was a medway, a warriors before forming the hidden ones. Not just that but odyssey feeling so isolated from the creed for me helped me feel like I was someine experiencing the first, for lack of a better word, version of the templars. I don't discredit anyone's opinions but it makes sense the recent characters aren't full assassins.
@@Ruddi031 Except that in the early games it was a couple of strikes or 1 hidden blade and they dead. Recent AC games don't even make stealth takedowns 1 hit kills. You bury a blade into a guy's unprotected neck and he shrugs it off because he's arbitrarily 2 levels higher than you. I remember when in the early ones you'd actually get to be sneaky. Blending into crowds, casually stabbing a target in the side as you pass them so they have a delayed reaction to the wound so you could sneak away. Nowadays it's just a smooth-brained DPS check.
I’m laughing thinking of you clicking on the link to this video then realizing you got here right as it was posted and you’re sitting there desperately trying to think of something to type so you don’t blow your early comment opportunity and this is all you could come up with
In 2008 I knew my christmas present was going to be Assassin's Creed. So when my mom the day before christmas left home, I found my present opened it and took the disc out and swapped it for another game. Played it the whole night on christmas eve. Good times
I think Discovery Tour was a pretty good addition, albeit late into the series. While historical knowledge always played a role, these documentary styled sections were a mixture of cool & informative on stuff the team researched for the games. In execution though I vibed better with Origins' version of it than the way Discovery Tour was redesigned in Odyssey.
Given how Ubisoft began to disregard historical authenticity in favor of progressive politics in more recent titles, it's disappointing that Discovery Tour was conceptualized so late into the series, as the purpose of its creation has already been betrayed.
One of my favorite game franchises, staying home from school one day sick when AC1 was new and I was around 12. AC2 the whole collection (and actually I think Brotherhood is the best) and Black Flag are by far my favorites. Kinda enjoying origins as well, but its not the same. I am also one of the few ones I guess that liked the "irl" segments with Desmond in AC2 and the whole thing with the company in Black Flag, I always wanted to go back to uncover some new secret or detail about the mystery.
I'm repeating them all. Ubi is shutting down servers for online stuff and even dlc for all the ezio games, 3 and liberation. Will shut down on sep 1. Love this franchise. Played them all like you since release. Even the mobile games, ds and psp games. I got the logo tattooed on my right ring finger. This holds a place in my heart cause of my childhood but also hardened my passion for gaming, history, mythology, science and philosophy.
I've never liked the modern day parts of Assassin Creed games. You're there to play as an assassin (which Odyssey doesn't even have) and not normal Garry that is a descendant of someone cool
@@iAmPimmiCue I get that but also love the wider lore of the universe and exploring history. It's a fun and good game. While she isn't an assassin I love the game
@@aliquidgaming1068 It's more that it shouldn't be called Assassins Creed, has nothing to do with them. it's like Ubisoft slapping the Tom Clancy name on everything
@@iAmPimmiCue Desmond was cool and he had potential to be as good as Altair or Ezio, if you liked the lore of assassin's you would also like the present story bits since it adds to the lore, the Animus is the best concept of the saga in my opinion but yeah I know I get it's more fun to play the game than get deep into the lore.
Man, y'all got right fancy with your editing in this one. I caught all those smooth character traversal animation edits you did during the freerunning. Making his movement animations blend smoothly from one scene to another. Lovely stuff. Y'all continue to amaze with your content. Highest quality historical gaming journalism I've seen since I was watching Icons on G4. Love you guys, keep up the good work and keep bringing that sexy voice to our nerdy gamer shit.
I remember watching the trailer for AC 2 a few days after finishing the first game, ever since, I've been through each game to 100%, I saw all the controversy, peaks and valleys this franchise had, and despite losing it's original identity I still enjoy the titles for their historic rich environments. Can't say that I fully enjoy the narrative as much as I did when Desmond was around, the mystery surrounding the game was shredded with 3, but I'm still curious to see where this franchise goes next, it's a shame Ubisoft is such a horrible company. Thank you for such a long and enjoyable journey! It truly brought some nostalgia and memories with it.
Assassin’s Creed black flag was and still is my favorite AC game, I’ve finished it so many times I lost count. The feeling of adventure while traveling the high sea while your crew sings shanties is unmatched in my opinion. And the fast paced hand to hand combat combined with excellent ship combat is so addicting. By far the best AC game in my opinion and easily the best pirate game ever made
in my PERSONAL opinion, i loved every single AC game up until they went full on RPG. and ik a lot of fans seem to like Origins but it’s just not the style of an AC game that i fell in love with back in 2007
Imagine the original Assassins Creed was called Prince of Persia... Ubisoft were smart to change the name when it deviated so much and they should have done the same from Origins onwards.
Listening to the video, when he gets up to odyssey and he’s quoting lead devs, it seems like they started treating the series like a clothing brand and not a series of historical epics. They’ve pretty much lost their passion for making something unique, engaging, challenging and fun. Instead they just go for repetitive, playing dress up and big maps
The narrator’s voice is among the most soothing and professional sounding when it comes to video game documentaries and retrospective’s. Felt like hearing something from BBC, the Discovery Channel and the History Channel
This was an incredible retrospective and easily my favourite GVMERS video so far! I predominantly played AC during the late PS3/360 era and have been thinking of replaying the Ezio saga. I also got around to trying Origins not long ago but it didn't click with me due to its RPG-centric design, although I am tempted to go back and give it another shot.
AC 2, AC Brotherhood, AC Black Flag, AC origins are absolute classics and epics to me. So many strong memories of those games with superb storytelling. Adore Jesper Kyds music playing at the start from the original AC game, still great. Jesper Kyds music is the most AC sounding composer with memorable epic music that transported you to the period, Austin Wintorys Syndicate ost was great too, Sarah Schachners Origins ost was also superb with memorable tracks
The Altair and Ezio trilogy made me love and the series and made my junior high fun. Sadly after 3 the story (specialy the modern day) fall into dissaray because they fired the original writers (they killed the desmon duh) . I've still have fun playing those other AC games like Black Flag, Unity (latest update) and Origins but they've lost the touch they had during Ezio trilogy.
True, they put a lot of love and care to AC1, AC2, Brotherhood and Revelation. I always loved Revelation because it feels like the "True Ending" of the series. The climax, the ending, the moment when old Ezio meeting Altair in the vault is one of the saddest and beautiful moments in my entire gaming experience.
I recently tried to play AC2, 10 years after it came out. One thing that struck me is how unenjoyable it is, given that the same Ubisoft-style open world has become so ubiquitous (no pun intended). While it was lightning in a bottle on release, it bears a lot of design sensibility in common with the AC reboots: climb vantage point, unlock markers, go to marker, do X quickly, rinse and repeat. For some reason, I believed that there was more of a difference between the two series. The only real difference is that the newer ACs are more nakedly cynical time-killers. Beyond the (then-somewhat novel) gameplay loop, AC 2 really had its characters and historical setting going for it, coupled with the underlying mystery. Those Eden puzzles just reeked of style and intrigue, even though it's a very basic gameplay thing. I'm curious if anyone else has gone back to test their nostalgia and been disappointed.
@@47ejecting2 if you tried it for the gameplay (for the first time) you'll be very disappointed given that its a more than 10 years since its release and gamplay is surely dated and a lot of newer games had much more great gameplay than AC 2 (Unity for Example) but for us Playing AC specialy Ezio trilogy growing up is a Nostalgia Trip, from Ezio being born until his death we players have been there and no new AC games give that kind of feeling of invested in the character again. (they attempted at Edward but they've killed him in the Novel and made his Son Haytham a Templar which is a new take on the story but it is poorly executed for me)
@@johndelgado8536 I misspoke: I meant that I tried to *replay* AC2. I played all the AC games (through Black Flag) on release. It's nostalgic for me too, but not enough to hide its flaws - flaws which were just as present then as they are now.
Ezio's family theme is so good 😭 Prince of Persia and AC deserved better Love Desmond's story, Altair, Ezio, Connor's stories are so cool. Wish his story didn't end like that, wish it was longer. I still don't understand why they turned cool assassin games into RPG game with levels. It might be a good game, but doesn't feel like AC game anymore
I think Prince of Persia is in a good state: concluded. The Two Thrones is a nice conclusion for the Sands Trilogy. I've personally liked the 2008 new reboot, but unfortunately it's ending leads to a sequel which has never come, so the franchise is dead. Let it rest in peace instead of ruin it with microtransactions and other bad stuff. The same applies to Rayman or Splinter Cell, better dead than spoiled
I have very fond memories of AC 1- 3 These were my first games that I played through completely and i remember seeing trailers and going to gamestop for them. Thanks for the nostalgia trip
This channel literally feels like mainlining nostalgia! I just love the way these docs never fail to conjure up a flood of forgotten memories from life throughout middle school, high school, and early college. Just for reference, I graduated HS at 18 in 2002. I'm reminded of how special it felt to experience genre defining games for the first time with my closest friends, as well as when we discovered hidden gems that never got the love that they deserved. These are memories that I truly cherish, and always will. Also, I need to say that the research and production value on display here is really quite impressive. Please keep it up and continue feeding our collective addiction to nostalgia :-D
Fantastic documentary, guys! I really enjoyed it :) The writing was superb, and the editing really kept my interest up. Probably your best one so far. Looking forward to seeing more in the future :D
You forgot to add in the part of me waking up 3 in the morning so I could play Assassins Creed 1 before school. Apart from that this seems to be a very thorough timeline of events
This has become my favorite RUclips series. Always makes me miss these great games. Fingers crossed we see Assassins Creed come back some day. I know they still make games called "Assassins Creed" but they're AC games in name only.
11:00 I've got to say, I don't understand all the hate the sci-fi elements always got. The first game frankly needed MORE of it to really hammer it home, and the twist was great (though pretty clearly telegraphed.) Then with AC2 I unlocked every single thing so I could see that little Adam and Eve animation and learn about the precursors, and I loved the stuff in 3 also! They just didn't put enough work into the modern stuff imo, the idea was great. SPOILERS: Also, killing of Desmond in AC3 was an unbelievable STUPID idea. It left the modern day story floundering, and as far as the story goes, they never really killed him off! You're still playing within his memories in basically every other AC game that followed, but now they just hardly talk about the modern day stuff. That whole subplot got a backseat to everything else, but they're still doing everything WITHIN Desmond's memories. So if he's still effectively INVOLVED in every single game that follows, did you REALLY kill him off? Or did you really just get rid of his character model?
It takes a few scrolls down some comments to see why this franchise lost its Identity and now is soley on made because it makes so much money I have no issue with the rpg aspect the way combat and stealth is now is awful no flow in combat stealth is clunky due to the huge open worlds they could’ve done better but its Ubisoft and they’ve been going down ever since examples are almost every ghost recon game flopped failed free to play games lack of care for what players want assassins creed yeah no assassins and no creed in a few games with grindy gameplay with stealth being thrown away
Another franchise Ubisoft is gonna end up killing a new famous sayin with Ubisoft is that they never fail to disappoint they care about mtx more than anything this should be called the rise and fall of AC
I liked Desmond and his plot. I thought 3 was going to be the big finale, the big 2012 thing, the final confrontation between the Templars and the Assassins in the present. everything was pointing to "3 is going to be a full Desmond game, set in present cities, he'll have all the skills he learned in the animus, he'll do the missions and fight the templars in the present". but no, they ruined 3 with an uninteresting setting, uninteresting character, and not making a worthy big finale for the whole story and for Desmond. after the big disappointment of 3, I played 20 minutes of 4 and I hated it, and I never touched the series ever again. I wish we could get some reboot that picks up after Revelations and does "a real 3" completing what the original story was supposed to be.
I really enjoyed the assassins creed games. I started off with 1 way back when and it had it's problems but it was definitely a good starting off point for a huge universe. 2, brotherhood, and revelations were amazing. And I know I have heard a lot of people claim those ones are usually their favs. which is easy to see. I also enjoyed them a lot. So many fun things to do and explore in those games, with a likeable character, interesting story, and amazing places to see. Then 3 came along and I really didn't like it all that much. The main character seemed kinda bland, and the US colonial setting is awful for a place to try to be an assassin. Just planes as far as the eye can see with single story houses with the occasional two story or church. Having to run/travel all the time from point to point just made it worse. The story must have been forgettable since I don't remember it though I know I played through and beat the game. One of it's saving graces was the naval battles which was really fun. I consider 3 where the franchise kinda started to go down hill. I played AC rouge which was forgettable but fun naval combat. I then took a break from the games cause they just kept pumping them out way to quickly and clearly not polished up enough. The series also seemed a bit fatigued so I waited and never got around to playing black flag, or syndicate though I have heard enough good things about it (the past year I ended up getting both for PS4 that I plan to play eventually when I get a PS5 maybe). But then when the fire happened at Notre Dame and Ubisoft gave away copies of Assassins creed unity I grabbed it cause why not free game. I had seen all the meme posts when it released showing how badly the glitches and stuff were because they rushed to release it instead of making sure to polish it up. I didn't get my hopes up but figured at the time its free why not try it out since it's been out for a while now maybe they polished it up enough. Oh boy am I glad I gave it a chance cause I think it is either as good or better than AC 2, brotherhood, revelations. The main character is likeable, story is interesting, setting is amazing, and at the time after enough polishing the game ran so great. I only encountered a few bugs/glitches like previous assassin creed games. Plus the multiplayer was pretty popular at the time cause so many people claimed the free game. It really was/is a fun assassin creed game. Unfortunately ubisoft because of them rushing to push out the games and having unity flop so bad because of so many bugs and glitches they decided they would change the whole way the games play and make them more into RPG games. When I started seeing origins, and then Odyssey, and now finally Valhalla it's clear I wont like the way assassin creed has went. They kinda decided having making mistakes like killing off Desmon Miles and changing up the games they kinda alienated some of their player base. As well as the micro-transactions. Some people like the new games and that's great for them but for me they just don't feel like the assassin creed games that I like anymore. So Unity after it's polishing turned out to be one of the best assassin creed games and yet we wont get a follow up probably ever. And ubisoft is making things even worse by alienating their player base by recently making it so DLC for old games wont be available even if you paid for it, as well as multiplayer even for some games that are still available to purchase right now which you will lose out on in a few months. Plus their push for NFT junk and micro-transactions. I have no plans to support ubisoft anymore and haven't for a while. Which is to bad cause the assassin creed games were fun.
I liked the series since 1. then 3 ruined it. 3 should have been the final showdown between Templars and Assassins 100% in the present. We should have gotten a full Desmond game. with all the skills he learned, doing missions in current cities. Wasn't the idea of the animus to train him?. well. I thought for the big finale we were going to get a game with Desmond being a full Assassin running around in modern cities. Imagine missions in present day Rome, Constantinople, London, New York, or whatever. 3 should have been amazing, instead it was uninteresting. The setting is not the best. Trees or small towns can't compare to what we saw in the Ezio games. It was beautiful to run around in those cities and see the architecture. The setting in 3 was boring. The main character was not as cool and charismatic, I think Haytam was a bit better, but as I said, 3 should have been Desmond as an Assassin the whole game, no animus, just Templars vs Assassin's in the present, the final battle, the 2012 thing, a big finale. I played like 20 minutes of 4 and I hated it, and I haven't touched the series ever since.
Preach brother preach!! Unity was peak AC. Played the first AC in 2007 when I was 15. Couldn't play Origins or Valhalla for more than a couple of hours before it bored me.
@@pelgervampireduck you should definitely try unity one of these days. It plays as well if not better than brotherhood etc. Different main character but he works well and is likable. The story is also interesting. But the setting/location is awesome as well. Having a few of those secret tombs as well if I remember. Seriously check it out sometime.
I agree, unity was the best of the saga, maybe Ezio saga wins in history but unity wins in the rest, gameplay, graphics, settings, if you ignore the few bugs it had then it is the perfect assassin's game, I really loved the "hitman like" mechanic of having different ways of killing the target even cool scripted ones that could make you feel stealthy by leaving the zone being totally unnoticed. Then the new games, I really liked origins, it felt fresh and the gameplay was okay, I think the setting was fun and interesting but yeah it wasn't an assassin's game anymore, the stealth is not the main focus, parkour was used to climb mountains only, then the combat wasn't about cool combos or finishers but about fighting a damage sponge enemies to lower their health bar, all of this got worse in Odyssey and Valhalla, but well these aren't totally bad games just that it always makes me remember all the possible good games that could've been if they took different decisions, anyways that's how life works I guess, it's not always perfect.
Wow. Very interesting to watch. This has also made me want to replay the first few games again together with the many titles in the franchise that I haven't actually played. Thank you for creating this video.

I loved the Assassin’s Creed games. The revelation that your seeing everything as a simulation blow my mind at the time. The beauty of the renaissance period, the sea battles of the new world and revolution in the old. Like a lot of others, we got burnt out and Origins brought a new vigour to the game but Odyssey quickly ruined all that. Ubisoft made a gorgeous world, that was bloated and bland. Stepping away from telling a great, tight, story to stretching it out long past the point of being followable. This pushed me away from the games. Ubisoft has clearly lost their way and what made AC great.
Honestly these newer games have sadly put gameplay ahead of story and it sucks. I'll always cherish the first few ac games from ac1 right up to ac3. Brotherhood and ac2 was truly the absolute height of this franchise.
That's your opinion that Odyssey ruined it, for many like my self it brought be back because AC became stale after Black Flag (well after AC3 if i want to get technical).
@@savirahye Sigh, ahead of story? the only DLC for the original Assassins Creed told you what direction it was going. If you were too lazy to remember then that's on you.
@@strykrpinoy Foreshadowing was enough. Back then the developers weren't as greedy as they are now with their shitty microtransactions requiring anything good to be behind a paywall. I will praise Odyssey for trying innovate the series but I feel like the series need to find some middle ground and head back to its roots in terms of having the next main character actually be an established Assasin and actually bring back stealth properly. The parkour system really needs to go back to how it was in Unity as well.
@@strykrpinoy I will give you this I'd much rather play Odyssey and Origins over Valhalla which was terribly boring apart from the modern day aspects of the story.

Unity ended up being a great game. About 3-4 months after release I bought a digital download code for the game for around $5 off eBay. The big patches were released by then and I loved the game!
I still play AC2, brotherhood, revelations, & 3 to this day. Id buy syndicate on switch if it was available but otherwise i liked those 2 protagonists, connor & especially ezio. Memorable imo
You can use the hidden blade to clear entire combat encounters in AC1, you just have to use throws as your primary method of offense instead of normal attacks. It was the only weapon that could kill anyone either on the ground or attacking you in one hit, and start assassination chains on taunting or cowering enemies to induce additional fear, the original version of the fight or flight system. In many ways, it was more powerful than any other weapon I'm sorry, *what?* The new counter system began in AC3 and ended in Rogue, not the other way around. There are four main counter moves, but the ways you can utilize them give you dozens of options. See my counter guides for examples Is your source for Syndicate's lack of blending GameSpot - How Assassin's Creed Syndicate Reinvents Stealth and Combat in the Series? Cause that's just not true. Looks like it was written five months before the game came out, so maybe the decision was reversed late in development, or perhaps their source just had no idea what they were talking about. Misinformation spreading after these games come out is incredibly common thanks to their poor or nonexistent tutorialization, but this happening before it even releases is very strange
One of the most promising franchises ever, and they've just let it go. ACII is an absolute masterpiece, they stayed true to history when possible and made interesting links between history and the lore of the series when they couldn't. This shit was magical, then they ruined it.
After Ezio's trilogy the series changed for the worse in my opinion. AC3 and Black Flag still had the core elements that made the franchise unique, but it was leaning towards action and open world and progressively abandoned the hiding in plain sight mechanics to become an action RPG with generic stealth elements. I wish the series had remained focusing in historic cities instead of open worlds, playing in Rome, Florence, Venice, Acre, Jerusalem, to me that was one of the most important features of the game, bringing old cities back to life again. Egypt and Greece felt too big and Athens felt small and not as memorable.
You sir are correct. Remember, they wanted to push more micro transaction bullshit and earn more money, that's why they abandon the old formula and pushed for RPG BS to sell booster packs and force you to play a lot of boring grind quests that incentivizes players to pay their way to proper leveling. Ubisoft open world design is the most boring and repetitive crap I have ever played. Quality over quantity any day of the week and without corporate mega greed on top of that. EA, Ubisoft and Blizzard are all complete trashfire studios these days. Make the same boring, buggy, macrotransaction infested shit over and over and over....
@@Powerhaus88 You can't read, can you? The Greek map in Odyssey was too big and felt empty, and in the same game Athens as a city felt too small as a result. The series started as big populated cities, not empty deserts, they can be fun but the urban setting was abandoned in favor of open worlds.
Yes they started to adapt the story to the setting they wanted to do as opposed to just picking a good setting and then telling a good story. It got sucked into it's own mythology.
Interesting detail about Assassin's Creed: Syndicate. Jacob Frye was meant to be the only main character, having a personality that combined himself and his twin. Evie Frye was only added to include more women in the games, and took the intelligent and fast thinking major traits Jacob had, leaving him with his recklessness and strength as his major traits
Up untill Unity i bought every single collectors, special and limited editions i bought the same game twice just to have everything, but origins killed it for me.
I feel this franchise has greatly overstayed it's welcome. Patrice had a beginning, middle and ending for the series, but the end never came. After AC3 it just kept going, with every new entry further diluting the core concepts that made AC what it was and excuses to call what's essentially a completely different game "Assassin's Creed".
I've written the same thing under another video about Assassin's Creed, someone answered me that Désilets' ending is crap. I don't think so. The present days are based on conspiracy theories, some kind of Illuminati, "aliens" and 2012 end of the world. Désilets' ending fits well!
@@SyamDaRos-EndoManno Desmond's ending in AC3 was such a let down, anticlimactic after all the build up from the previous titles. A final AC game with Desmond as the titular assassin protagonist would've been a perfect send off. I understand those who don't like the modern day setting and just wanted to play as a hooded guy in ancient times, but as silly as aliens and spaceships can sound, it's undeniable that those narrative themes where there from the very start. Some people forget AC is a sci-fi story.
Since origins Ubi should have created a new Franchise with these games. They are good, but they have basiclly nothing in common with an AC game anymore...
@@DragonsDogmaEnjoyer indeed, once the connections with the present got more vague and less impactful I quickly lose interest for the series. I get from this video that the last three games have partially brought back the "present day story", is it true? I might give them a try if that's the case

Hell of an intro there. How long have you guys worked on that? Been a strong fan of Assassin's Creed since the first game then-exclusive release on PS3. Kinda disappointed you didn't bring up the RPG elements in Unity but, yeah, those bugs really took all the attention. Odyssey really annoyed my with character select and dialogue tree. It doesn't make sense in the world of the game. And the former was truly pointless. I'm worried about the path the games are following now. If they're good games, I'll still play them but I have no rush to play them anymore.
Great documentary 👏 👏 👏. This franchise at one point was my favorite game franchise, and i looked foward to every installment. But story inconsistencies and bloated game mechanics have made this game no longer a day 1 buy for me.
I remember getting ac 1 for my tenth birthday after begging for it for Christmas and not getting it and being completely blown away the first time I played. I legitimately couldn't beleive I was playing a real game and that it actually looked that good😂 good times!
Damn you, GVMERS! You made me recollect how much I loved Ezio trilogy so I just bought ultimate editions of Origins and Odyssey. It's dirt cheap on Steam right now but still, Ubisoft owes you one.
Immortals Fenix Rising has many things in common with the new RPG games, but sold poorly in comparison, because it has not "Assassin's Creed" in it's title. Is just about money
I feel like when we get a few more games we’ll look back on the rpgs as not that bad because I bet they’ll use the things we learned in origins and Valhalla, for example what if we get a game that based like 100 years before Valhalla and tells the story of the England assassins when they’re in their prime and we get to use the bureaus scattered in England we explore in Valhalla

It's ironic that Assassin's Creed was born because of the narrative limitations of Prince of Persia, considering that nowadays AC has little to do with Assassins and even less with their Creeds. Goes to show the massive gap in creative integrity between old and current Ubisoft.
Yeah, the series has gone from actually doing assassinations to watching health bars chip away so you collect your 1000th green tier bracer armour.
@@PlebNC wait but open combat wise, chipping away health is literally what you do in every ac game tho? That’s a horrible argument
so damn true. they killed the franchise identity instead of create a new IP for the demigods RPG thing.
Oh this gonna be good

I agree, I do miss the style of those early games. I do however still find things I like in the newer ones.

Yeah i agree bro, for me Assassin's Creed 1 to Assassin's Creed 3 is AC in it's purest and rawest form ever.
Ezio's family theme is so good 😭
Prince of Persia and AC deserved better
Love Desmond's story, Altair, Ezio, Connor's stories are so cool. Wish his story didn't end like that, wish it was longer.
I still don't understand why they turned cool assassin games into RPG game with levels. It might be a good game, but doesn't feel like AC game anymore
I think this is the view of 90% of the people who are fans of the franchise, yet the developers stick with the new model

SPOILERS:
Also, killing of Desmond in AC3 was an unbelievable STUPID idea. Or did you really just get rid of his character model?
spoiler from AC Valhalla - Desmond is "alive"
The hate is very understandable if you care to make a few searches on it on RUclips
This is definitely the most intense opening 30 seconds of any of your videos.
The intro looks like something straight out of Game of Thrones! Amazing work.
Accidentally clicked and my heart exploded with excitement at the music, so many good memories.
Its impressive how this brand is still relevant after 15 years from release.
Remember it beeing something new and fresh back in 2007.
This was literally on my mind the other day as I got back into playing AC. Thank you for making my wishes come true
Just gotta say, i teared up at the ending of Black Flag. Great game, not a great assassin game, but great game
Wow. Very interesting to watch.
This has also made me want to replay the first few games again together with the many titles in the franchise that I haven't actually played.
Thank you for creating this video.
This is literally premium level production quality and content, i would definitely pay good money if you open your own streaming app
It blows my mind how underexposed this channel is. Top tier nearly every time.
Origins was built with so much love and attention to detail.
I've been watching your documentaries for a long time. I wanted to thank you for your hard and passionate work. Always so well written, documented and detailed. So well told. Your videos are as always fascinating, but this one in particular, for me, made me love it like never before. Every time, with your videos, i learn something. I hope someday i can contribute to your fabulous work. You deserve it. Thank you GVMERS team! We love you! ❤️
Sir , i have never seen such a beautiful video critique on a series i love so much , youtube is so beautiful because of channels like this.
Unity wasn't perfect, but was very cool and has that unique assassin's creed atmosphere. It was the last real AC
I enjoyed Unity very much. But Syndicate was the last ‘real’ AC.
Everyone forgets Syndicate despite being markedly better than Unity :(
there's no such thing as last "real" AC game. get over it. i hate Black Flag, but don't go around saying that AC3 was the last real assassin game
The parkour and the combat are the best AC ever got in Unity.
@@bobbobby438 parkour - yeah, combat - absolutely not.
Origins has the best combat system since it's not "parry to insta-kill" type shit anymore
This honestly feels like a documentary you'd see on History Channel or something, it's so well made.
For me the two videogames that remarkably gave Assassins Creed franchise a properly name and popularity in videogames industry were Assassins Creed II and Assassins Creed Brotherhood both with excellent two main stories Enzio’s, Desmond’s and the two videogames had both brilliant gameplays.
Have a nice day :)
Damn, not ac1?
@@Dct_Alonze cant blame it, ac 1 isnt as interactive as the ezio legacy, no shops for weapons, no costumes and getting throwing knifes is by pickpocket 😅
@@l4w1nc0l7 still though they could always remaster it and add all of that stuff in, though honestly don't see the point in remaking it if ubisoft is already in the jrpg hype train
@@Dct_Alonze The story and the gameplays of Altrair AC1 were good. Like the rest of his story and old Enzio in AC Revelations but they weren’t amazing like ACII and AC Brotherhood.
Although the first and the forth games stories and gameplays were fine by me I guess.
@@goncalopereiraandrade I can agree on ac2 and brotherhood being enjoyable, but idk... I wasn't really liking playing as ezio rather than i did having fun as Altaïr, but that's just me
The real Assassin vs Templar battle is in the fanbase itself
Old school vs RPG...
I'm appreciative of both. I just love this franchise.
I agree I like the idea of 1 in every 3 games being a big RPG one
I'm similar, I just wish they would give up the ghost and drop the assassin part of the title already. Either split the concepts in to different series or drop one entirely. There is nothing remotely stealthy about the new games outside of barebones crouching and backstabs 😂
I came across this channel unexpectedly and wow I am so impressed with it such thought and research has gone into these videos amazing work I’m looking forward to watching further videos!!!!
Unity ended up being a great game. About 3-4 months after release I bought a digital download code for the game for around $5 off eBay. The big patches were released by then and I loved the game!
Unity is the worst in the series, clunky mechanics, dead open world and the worst story in the franchise
Thank you for these long form video essays. They are greatly appreciated by me ❤️
I still play AC2, brotherhood, revelations, & 3 to this day. Id buy syndicate on switch if it was available but otherwise i liked those 2 protagonists, connor & especially ezio. Memorable imo
Don't have time to watch. Stopped by to drop a like. Love you guys and your content. Keep up the great work!
What an amazing deep dive into the history. Great work!
This Channel deserve a dedicated TV show. Kudos 👌👌👌 more if this please.
In many ways, it was more powerful than any other weapon
I'm sorry, *what?* The new counter system began in AC3 and ended in Rogue, not the other way around. There are four main counter moves, but the ways you can utilize them give you dozens of options. See my counter guides for examples
Is your source for Syndicate's lack of blending GameSpot - How Assassin's Creed Syndicate Reinvents Stealth and Combat in the Series? Cause that's just not true. Looks like it was written five months before the game came out, so maybe the decision was reversed late in development, or perhaps their source just had no idea what they were talking about. Misinformation spreading after these games come out is incredibly common thanks to their poor or nonexistent tutorialization, but this happening before it even releases is very strange
I've never seen a RUclips channel up their game in production so quickly
One of the most promising franchises ever, and they've just let it go. ACII is an absolute masterpiece, they stayed true to history when possible and made interesting links between history and the lore of the series when they couldn't. This shit was magical, then they ruined it.
So excited for this. Been playing through all of the games again, and this is exciting to see
After Ezio's trilogy the series changed for the worse in my opinion.
Athens is in Greece, son.
And Egypt was perfect, I've been waiting for two decades before Origins came along for a game that had massive deserts.
@@Powerhaus88 you’re special
What an AMAZING video. These guys deserve millions of views
I knew I was waiting for you to approach this franchise. Well worth the wait! Thanks so much!
Up untill Unity i bought every single collectors, special and limited editions i bought the same game twice just to have everything, but origins killed it for me.
Origins was the best since black flag
This channel is such quality and deserving of a much higher sub base. Consistently great stuff here.
@@DragonsDogmaEnjoyer exactly!
Best narrator on RUclips hands down no contest not even close.
I played every single Ac game minus Valhalla, Origins and Rogue. Still love the series and just want a Japanese or Chinese Assassin's Creed game before I die.
It exists. It's called Ghost of Tsushima.
I'd actually recommend Origins as better than Odyssey, and Rogue for it's perspectives & tying in of loose ends in other games.

Ya'll are the most entertaining docuseries out there period. Love the narrators voice!
Watched the entire video. Amazing job.
The original was never a ps3 exclusive at any point, it launched on 360 on the same day
@@skimaskedabi could’ve sworn it was gonna be ps3 exclusive. Oh well.
@@SwiftGundam maybe because it was initially a console exclusive, it came out on PC later.

Great documentary 👏 👏 👏. This franchise at one point was my favorite game franchise, and i looked foward to every installment. But story inconsistencies and bloated game mechanics have made this game no longer a day 1 buy for me.
One and a quarter hours of the best voice-over on the platform?
Joyyyyy ❤
The original AC on Xbox 360 was mind boggling.
Then again, so were all the major titles of the 2007-2011 era...
I remember getting ac 1 for my tenth birthday after begging for it for Christmas and not getting it and being completely blown away the first time I played. I legitimately couldn't beleive I was playing a real game and that it actually looked that good😂 good times!

Just in time for my meal: hope you talk about the "you can't play the DLC you bought, period" part
this channel is so underrated it’s criminal
Ubisoft destroyed this franchise. They had gold and the turned it to shit.
wow! congrats for leveling up the presentation! everything now is top-notch!
Is anyone else sad that the new RPG focused AC games are barely AC games? I feel like they should just be their own things.
Immortals Fenix Rising has many things in common with the new RPG games, but sold poorly in comparison, because it has not "Assassin's Creed" in it's title. Is just about money
AC is dead. Simple as that
@@DonDadda45 ur dead 💩
I feel like when we get a few more games we’ll look back on the rpgs as not that bad because I bet they’ll use the things we learned in origins and Valhalla, for example what if we get a game that based like 100 years before Valhalla and tells the story of the England assassins when they’re in their prime and we get to use the bureaus scattered in England we explore in Valhalla
Amazing content as usual!
GVMERS: Connor wasn't driven by revenge like Ezio.

Loved the franchise since the first game. Quitted after Odyssey. Farewell AC, you were my childhood...
And yet another phenomenal documentary guys. Excellent work.
The unending history of Assassin's Creed.
This channel has covered many games/franchises that have never received a sequel or that have stopped being worked on.
This is the opposite, a franchise that doesn't stop, the perfect example when a game outlives their peak.
Modern Assassin's Creed could have continued, but under a different name; in the same universe even.
Amazing video!! Awsome production!! ❤️
"A heroine across a male-dominated war wouldn't be believable"
A shame that they decided to abandon realism since then. And then there's the mythical beasts!
