I had no idea Le Touquet was still running. Back in 1982 I bought a 490 Maico that had been built to run the beach race, (A&S Racing, Portsmouth UK) It had 63 bhp and weighed 243 lbs. Only MX/Enduro bike that ever scared me when riding in the woods .It was geared for about 130 mph, only ever had it over revving in top gear one time ,a firebreak that normally made front end get a bit light , flat out was about 40 ft in the air. I thought I was never coming down and had plenty of time to think what would happen if I missed the sheep track and landed in the gorse, At 'altitude' the track looked like a pencil line on the ground (probably 3ft wide though) Took it home and fitted standard motocross gearing, about 85mph max seemed so much safer
I love it ! At 6:50, after rounding a corner, the camera is angled so you are looking at the riders from behind, and all you can see is every bike throwing roost, you can hardly see then riders for all the roost being thrown up !
Yes it's in France.. i went there in 2010 from uk ,and couldn't find anywhere to park ! So i got back in my car and drove to the nurburgring and had a great weekend there instead 😄
Unbelievable , need more races like this in OZ. Great riding by the bloke making others look like theyre standing idle. GreT spectacle for the punters in the crowd
Fastest I saw was 157kph. That is just shy of 100mph. I seem to remember a record set by a KTM 495 2 stroke of about 128mph in Baja or somewhere. I am not sure if anyone has beaten that speed.
I was wondering that same thing. Seems like this track could be somewhat compatible with older bikes. That whoop section wouldn't be so good for an old machine, but seems like everything else could be done. (To me anyway)
Imagine it for 3hrs... being a pro, trying to win, getting tired, risk of fall because of shit condition and sand, worrying about competition, potential engine probleme, riding as fast as you can and having to care and be super careful with these 900 other amator rider than you have to pass always asap for 2h50 of race... because dont mistake out of 1000 riders, 100 are professional and here for the win and are super fast, the rest are amators here to complete the challenge of trying to finish that race. Every single amators are completdly inpredictable and could ruin your race so quickly cause they dont see you coming super fast behind them... such a cool race. Between pro and amators, that the beauty of that race
Imagine being first for 9/10th of the race then hitting a slow rider you lap, and coming off! A hindrance when there’s so many 100s of riders competing!

After watching a recent FortNine video all I can think about is how much carbon monoxide the racers are inhaling at the starting line. I'm curious what a carbon monoxide meter would read in the middle of all of those bikes.
It's completely fine, carbon monoxide does not do lasting damage. It doesn't do any damage actually, it's just that red blood cells prefer it over oxygen... As long as it's kept at a minimum it's fine, but even if things were to go wrong, someone would pass out and be brought to cleaner air. The particulate emissions are probably worse for health in that situation

The exhaust fumes for the guys sitting in the middle of the pack waiting for the start must have been epic.
