    Great basic info. I would warn you as an experienced photogrammetrist in a past career a big question to ask your clients is: do you need your product tied to an existing coordinate system? If no! You can eliminate expensive survey grade equipment and workflow. Simply lay your control targets around your project area and software will tie and orthorectify imagery and your project is mapped and true to scale! A lot of folks overlook this.

      So I don't need to record the GPS coordinates of my GCP? I just need the color points on the ground to reference ?

    • @pnwxplored
      @pnwxplored 2 года назад +1

      @@AlpineHiker depends on your project accuracy. I lay my targets, add a PK nail or paint pavement and don’t Immediately survey if client does not need a specific coordinate system. Collect imagery, ortho rectify without gcps, see if your accuracy is good enough for client. If not survey your gcps, won’t need to re-fly, and then reprocess ortho with gcp coordinates. Make sense? Design projects will always need gcps but planning and development projects without high accuracy, may not. Key is ask your client give them 2 estimates.

      @@pnwxplored This client is mind is a landscaper, He doesn't need highly accurate maps, but good enough that He is using them and seting the Opacity to 50% and then creating a top down landscaping plan off them.... To me It sounds like he doesn't need GCPS with GPS.... Just the image needs to not be warped and a lot of his jobs are hilly.

    3 years later would you still stay away from the mavic for mapping? The Mavic 3 enterprise rtk bundle to be more specific.

    I am just starting out with a DJI Mini 2 SE, how can I build up to a proper drone and what do I really need? Is there work I can do with my current dorne? I am not accepting the point I am sunk at the outset, though I may have to work more than I really want to.

    Exactly what I was looking for as a beginner. I have recently started a 1958 Buick restoration into daily driver. Has recently turned to mobile construction services drone mapping vehicle. Very interested on what would be required for drone docking and charging. Will be adding mini PC monitor and changing the sonomatic radio to a 6inch display because why not it fits!

    So you guys have a hands-on class for mapping? Now do you know of one around Huntsville Alabama because otherwise I’d have to fly out there I’m guessing for a week which wouldn’t be so bad but I would love to learn hands-on when I’m ready for that and I’m glad Joe kind of describe what all it entails in here because it’s a lot more to it than what I realized I’m going to start out with real estate and construction progression and family reunions and birthday parties and family portraits

    Is there an RTK drone without the need for a base station similar to the Leica viva using GSM networks? Is there any advantage aside from saving a step during processing. We have 6 Leica GPS units. I'm honestly tired of GPSing my targets in the field. Would this be the only benefit?

    I was always of the understanding to NEVER say "survey grade accuracy". I got seriously attacked when asking a question, including the phrase I stated above, on one of my mapping groups I'm apart of on FB.

    • @souocara38able
      @souocara38able 4 года назад +2

      Those Facebook groups are full of people who like to attack. Even one of the groups that has the word professional in its name has a lot of babies that just wanna put others down. There is even an admin or 2 in the group of babies on FB.
      I think there are also a lot of really good people but they're not as active, they're out doing more work.
      If you're not a surveyor you can get yourself into trouble using that phrase and maybe even legal trouble depending on your state law. I guess maybe you could paraphrase it and say "I want to get accuracy as good as a surveyor" or something like that or maybe just say as accurate as possible

    • @MrJKillarado
      @MrJKillarado 4 года назад +1

      @@souocara38able your 💯about that! And I'm going to call out the group that attacked me cause it's a huge mapping group on FB. It was the Pix4D FB group. For the most part it was all surveyors and architects that attacked me saying I had no business aerial mapping cause I didn't know what I was doing lol. My only question on the group page was how to check the accuracy of my map. They said there was no way to check it with the quality report and I had even mentioned that I had a tape measure pulled out to 20ft in my map as a scale constraint which was exactly how I checked my accuracy. After real time measurements my scale constraint accuracy was dead on! I think they were all just trying to scare me away and deter me from taking on the task of Aerial Mapping as a DSP cause they're threatened by Drone Service Providers doing this type of work. Hell I did everything right, I used 5 GCPs all marked with a Trimble unit and took those coordinates and implemented them into my Pix4D project and the correcting at least 10 images per GCP. My ellipsoid error was nearly perfect for all 5 GCPs with only 2 that were slightly off vertical and not even worth correcting any further. In the end my Client was very satisfied and has planned on using my services for future projects.

      @MrJKillarado 4 года назад +1

      @@souocara38able my client just wanted to see if I could beat the accuracy of a mobile LiDAR unit that was used and provided an accuracy of +/-1-4" which is horrible. My accuracy was within
      +/-1.6cm or about 0.5".

    Not bashing just giving some feedback. I might be the only person that thinks that?
