I actually started out as a vegan in March 2011 and was strict vegan (including no honey or animal products in clothes and toiletries etc) until June 2017. I had an eating disorder though (anorexia nervosa for many years) and being so restrictive was challenging when I was trying to recover. I added back small amount of dairy and eggs in June 2017 but felt it wasn't quite enough and I was having low iron and B12. I added back fish in December 2017 and have now been officially pescetarian for just over 4.5 years. I feel this is far more sustainable for me and my health has improved a lot over the years, though iron deficiency is still a battle (and yes I eat a lot of beans, leafy greens, nuts and seeds, tofu and other products with iron in them). I eat some kind of fish 1-2x week, otherwise would be considered lacto ovo vegetarian. Mostly I stick to fish like walleye, salmon (wild caught and local as I live by Lake Superior and many inland lakes), lake trout, occasional cod or maui maui, sardines and very rarely oysters or mackerel. Tried herring a few times. I haven't eaten any other meat besides fish in over 11.5 years and still do not miss it. If I were to give up anything again at this point it would likely be dairy before I would give up eggs or fish. I feel far more satiety now than I did as a vegan. I always felt hungry even with adding in some oil and daily nuts/seeds, avocado etc as a vegan. I feel a higher protein and more moderate instead of high carb intake works well for me. A pescetarian lifestyle just feels more balanced and social eating is easier for me now.

Great video! I became a pescetarian 2 weeks ago now too, after I wanted to try cutting out meat for several months now. I tried veganism, just as a test for a month, tried vegetarianism, and after all the pescetarian diet fits the most to my eating habits and goals. I mostly eat vegetarian though, but I do like to eat salmon and shrimps every other days. These two are also (alongside a very little amount of white fish & tuna) the only types of seafood I eat regularly

It’s crazy because I jumped straight into it because one night I just watched how meat is bad for you then I went to my dads the next day and was like I don’t eat meat anymore. It’s only been 1 time since I started that’s I eat a burger at a cook out only 1 time then I did eat sea food here and there but I haven’t eaten any meat soo I’m doing good it’s not that hard it just no meat I eat cheese and eggs but I stated drinking almond milk and it’s been 2 months now but I do see my self getting smaller me and my family see it

I want to go PolloPescatarian and eventually vegan but I am allergic to four fruits and dairy but my parents are heavy believers in that you need to eat meat, when I get asked what I want to eat I always choose the closest option to vegan any advice?

I love your story, Sis. I actually became a pescatarian w/o having any knowledge about it. Near the tail end of 2018, I decided that I wasn't gon eat fast food anymore which obviously eliminated meat, dairy and poultry. Just a challenge to test my willpower. I have one cheat item which is tamago nigiri. I make my own sushi so being pescatarian gives me enough wiggle room to satisfy my taste buds. I'm actually working towards becoming 100% plant-based (plant-based diet). I think we all know what's up w/ the meat industry. I'm a little older than you and I remember when my lil' friends and I would go to Taco Bell and somebody would just bust out w/ "YOU KNOW THAT AIN'T REAL MEAT AND THAT'S REALLY RAT TAILS!" Or just something ridiculous like that. We'd pick up that Burrito Supreme and be like, "Ummm, this rat tail sho' do taste good!" Sorry, that was a random 7th grade moment.😜 But anyway, I'm proud of the progress that I've made on my wellness journey. I'll get there. I've acquired so much knowledge over the years.

I'm vegan. There's times where i wish to be pescetarian because I'm not going to lie i loved seafood specially cuz I'm from Spain and my home town is a beach town so seafood and fish is are specialty but the guilt won't let me. I started pescetarian but then end up vegan more cuz of the cruelty and how human are starving animals like polar bears, whales, penguin's, etc by denying them there food resources. I don't force ANYONE to be vegan it's there choice just like i made the choice of being vegan is it hard no it's not people think being vegan is hard and it's really not i always tell my friends and others to give it a try do a one week vegan diet so you can try and then maybe decided you want to go vegan but plan it out cuz most people won't and then end up not really experiencing the full experience if being vegan.

Hi there! We agree that there are many unsustainable ways of sourcing foods and nutrients, so it can be hard finding eco-friendly methods. Since you were pescatarian, you were probably able to reach your omega-3 goals through dietary sources. Now that you're vegan, we recommend a vegan omega-3 supplements sourced from lab-grown algae. This kind of supplement is 100% eco-friendly, sustainable, and free of any sea pollutants such as mercury.

Watch a commercial fishing documentary and see how the fish you buy is hauled up from the depths, often with internal organs ruptured before being left to suffocate on deck or be gutted alive. Not to mention the bycatch.
