    Lorazepam has helped me get through the stress of cancer treatment. It's not meant to be taken every day for extended periods of time. Best prescribed for someone during stressful life events like cancer or the loss of a loved one. It gets a bad wrap because it's often abused but it has many positive benefits. I'm far more scared of the negative side effects of anti depressants than of benzodiazepines.

    could not have been a caregiver for my mom without it. Anxiety? ya think? she hoarded stuff to extreme due to FTD dementia. had 61 cats trapped in her house! was out shopping daily even during Covid. This med helped her High Blood Pressure become normal. Her legs which were swollen triple size went down no more med for swelling. Dementia caused mom to destroy 4 sets of locks, go to thrift store and steal something, come growling through the house wanting to do harm to family. She went into 24/7 bed incountenance care after taking it but she was no longer making family afraid enough to put all the knives up high and other things. Elderly mobile sundowners can be violent. They give this in nursing homes for those who harm the staff. A man thinking he is young had been in the war and thinks staff are out to get him can be a substantial threat to caregivers. I have huge respect for nurses in nursing homes after experiences with my mom. So very thankful for this medication. She is on hospice care which means she only is expected to live 6 months.

Most importantly, if your taking Ativan, never go cold turkey on Ativan, it is very important to ween yourself off Ativan. Take care!❤

The doctors now have said cause she's been dependent on it since her 40s over 25 yrs she will need to take it for the rest of her life she will litteraly die without it. She overused it for sure taking it everyday I believe one should only take it now and then and not for a long period of time. It's highly addictive and can kill you if you stop taking it all of the sudden.

      non-solicited advice - read my post above and download the Ashton manual for tapering off of Benzodiazepines. No Dr Should ever deny a medication that will induce seizures if stopped without tapering. benzo's and alcohol are two drugs that will put you in the ground without proper tapering. - - read the Ashton Manual by DR Ashton, Benzo cessation expert - ativan is a faster acting/longer half life -dangerous to taper off-of especially if taken for a long time. going from 10mg to 5mg is quicker taper than lower doses to zero...going from 1mg to .5mg will maybe take 4 weeks. .5 to .25 may take 8-16 weeks. .25 to .175 may take 6 months, .175 to.03 up to 9 months. this is based on the ashton chart - prescribed for long periods of time. the gaba receptors -require slow rebuild or withdrawal occurs . quack clinics use phenobarbital over 4 weeks. rebound boomerang 100% guaranteed

    • @raxxtango
      @raxxtango 14 дней назад

      @@gatoperson97 this isn't true.... Doctors are willfully ignorant of these medications and how to correctly taper off and go to zero. it may take years if the duration and the dosage was substantial, but It can be done - Read the Ashton manual, eat the proper foods, exercise and possibly gabapentin/neuroton for calming

I moved to Texas and my primary care refused to prescribe it because it made her uncomfortable. So I had to stop it suddenly and my side effect from that was my BP went up. So she prescribed Propranolol. Well. I got nightmares, anxiety, and weight gain from that, which sbe seemed to think was okay. She is no longer my primary care but I am afrain to stop the Propranolol and now I can't find a primary care. Why do I feel this is going to put me in the ER eventually.

    It's a great all around benzo to be used as-needed in order to deal with "life". I call it my in-case-$hit-hits-the-fan backup plan to deal with transient work-related insomnia; just don't take it everyday. One thing to take note though is that lorazepam can cause derealization (detached, out of body experience) during withdrawal or between doses, more so than with other benzos.

    too often in my experience, if SSRI's, SNRI's, Buspar, or hydroxyzine are not effective for the patient and you inquire about benzodiazepines you get labeled as displaying drug seeking behavior and chastised for even bringing it up. Obviously this is not always the case, but at least in my area I've had it happen personally before and heard countless stories of the same. I don't think a patient should ever be cast in a negative light for merely asking the doctor's opinion if a certain treatment would be appropriate or not. The whole topic can be sometimes difficult to navigate, especially since I know some people really do display inappropriate drug seeking behavior and are dishonest with their provider, so I know they aren't coming out of nowhere with concerns.

    Benzos in general are a bad idea. You don’t have to abuse them to become physically dependent on them. I wish I had known what I was getting into when I started taking them. I tried reducing my dose very slightly but it didn’t go well. I don’t know how I’ll ever get off of them.

    • @steve8803
      @steve8803 Месяц назад +1

      @franksnijders63 they are both benzos. Main differences would be onset of action, and how long the effects last. Xanax is quicker acting but the effects don't last as long.

    That's a minnesota or Wisconsin accent. I would guess southern Wisconsin. That is the treatment mecca and they absolutely hate benzos there. You could literally be climbing a wall and they would tell you to try some guided meditation. Some people, like me, have clinical anxiety and I couldn't function without Ativan

      Naw if that cures you then you didn't really have it that bad. I have been dealing with this crap for 20 years unmedicated. Tried eating healthier, excercise, lift weights, meditation, go to bed early, study philosophy to get a new perspective on life. Nothing works, I truly believe at this point there is a switch in my brain that is flipped. Though this may not be healthy I think it's my only shot at combating this...
