This isn't the same and you know it. People were upset about stiff acting, and rough dialog after the OT had such loose and flowing dialog between the characters. I mean, try to think about going from the way Leia and Han talked to each other, how Luke and the pilots in the X-wings chatted each other up to the theater like line-reading in the Phantom Menace. It's a BIG jump for people, but the story was still there. The character were still strong. This isn't that at all. The prequels weren't an exposition smothered mess like Disney Star Wars is. You shouldn't brush all criticism under the same rug as if it had no value, that's how we got to this mess.

I think the greatest mistake of the acolyte is breaking established lore rather than developing something from it. That's the reason why fans are so upset about it. We have other shows like House of the Dragon which have character diversity, but are well received and praised because it actually is written well and respects the lore. The reason why the Mandalorian Season 1 was so good is that it is its own story while at the same time respecting the established lore in the star wars universe.

23:59 I don’t think nostalgia is the issue. The issue is that Star Wars is making a hard pivot to a new audience, but they don’t know how to create a good story in this universe.
The best newer Star Wars properties were Rogue One, Andor, and the first 2 seasons of the Mandalorian. They were mostly serious thrillers that focused on characters, story, and world-building.
I think episode 3 of the Acolyte was kind of what the haters were expecting. And unfortunately, the producers do make these shows with the haters in mind. She-Hulk (Marvel) is a clear example of that.

I keep asking who the audience is for this new Disney SW. It can't be the fans with how they are treating the source material. If the goal is to add inclusion and diversity, then they are failing because it is horribly conceived and written. Even a young audience can't be the target because many parents take issues with the darker tone and violence of shows like Kenobi and Acolyte.
I honestly think that the new SW is being made just to sell merchandise and promote the theme park and streaming service. JJ Abrams even said they didn't have a real plan for the next 2 movies after Force Awakens. At this point, it's not even about getting an audience as Disney only cares about selling overpriced lightsabers and Disney+.

Review-bombing MY ASS. Look at the RT scores for The Mandalorian's first 2 seasons and Andor AND The Farce Awakens. Plenty of Disney Wars stuff has been well-received. Even Solo: A Star Wars Story doesn't have a rotten audience score! Where were review-bombers for those? People are seeing absolute garbage with The Acolyte and are appropriately responding to it. How many of the people in that audience score didn't hate it, but merely disliked or were disappointed by it? RT has such a black-and-white fresh/rotten system. No room for nuance. Another point is where are all the defenders of The Acolyte? They only seem to exist with corporate media critics and probably a few terminally online left-wing activists who pose as part of nerd culture, when they probably never even watched an episode of this show. Just a matter of liking the "right" content and supporting a sociopolitical message.

Andor doesn't do anything to upend the lore. It simply tells good stories, and has well acted characters it explores within the established lore. Mon Mothma's character is super compelling but she's not doing anything that upsets the lore or challenges the world of star wars. It's simply just looking at the complexities of what a character in her position would have to deal with.

Because now, Disney can change Star Wars to whatever they want. And by the time they are done, it's not even going to be the same Star Wars fans have grown up to love. Its the horrendous writing above all else that's the issue. Plus I can't speak for everyone but for myself I'm pretty apathetic to Star Wars these days because even when they manage to have something decent like the first couple seasons of The Mandalorian they end up ruining it. Andor is the only Disney produced SW show I look forward too and that feels like its actually telling a story and isn't just cheap fan service and nostalgia baiting. That series has plenty of diversity and no one complained because the quality was amazing. Its funny they only ever use the "bigot" defense when they know there product is objectively bad. @@TheJRP2010this is kind of the real problem at this point I feel. It feels like the Corporate suits who run things are ordering as much Star Wars content (and tbh this applies to most of Disney’s other big tentpole IPs as well) be pumped out as fast as possible with a handful of studio notes about “make sure this popular character shows up”, “include references to this”, “leave openings for X, Y, and Z spinoffs”, “make it fit in this specific 8 episode format”, etc. and the result is that there’s just too much of it too fast for anyone on the creative side to really be able to polish it up and steer it the way it should go. Sometimes this works out and we get stuff like Andor, but most of the time it’s creates works that are OK enough but have this residue that smells like “IP first, art second” and the final product is just not really what it could be, and that missed potential is always frustrating.
Like I don’t think most of it is as bad as so many fans say (I actually liked Book of Boba Fett because I had no expectations for what the character should be since I always just saw him as a blank slate who showed up and looked cool for a few minutes at a time, so characterizing him as a burned-out fighter who wanted to hammer out a new way of living with less strife worked just fine for me), and none of the other shows have been so bad as to make me angry or upset, but they’re definitely lacking in a lot of areas and the whole franchise missing a cohesive artistic vision that should drive the core.

I don't think the Acolyte is terrible (could change before the end) but at that this point even if it was I would assume from the hate it's getting that it's purely getting review bombed by trolls for ideological reasons. Seriously, just about every media property nowadays that features a non-white, non-hetero, non-male as a or the central character gets this treatment now by default. We've had about two years of these concerted campaigns against every major media property that doesn't have a white, straight male protagonist and I get the sense a lot of ordinary people are just kind of tired of it. If something sucks, fine it sucks. If it's ok, it's ok. If it's awesome, hey it's awesome. But these campaigns to deliberately tear down media properties before they're even out, kind of forces people to take sides by default and doesn't allow anyone to make an honest review because you get pushed into picking a side based on whether your "anti-woke" or just "anti-anti woke".

What'worst is what it says about what Disney thinks it's fans are like. In the past when America was mostly white you had less diversity because the assumption is all the white people watching at home wouldn't watch shows with black, latino ,women in major roles outside of sidekicks, comic relief and love interests.
The problem is the studios are still using the same mentality today as then when creating their shows. They assume everyone is racist so they got to play into that. America today is more diverse, especially with younger people and younger people is who they are trying to win over. The impression they have gotten from social media is everyone hates white people these days , especially men so if your young they then will pander to that assumed bigotry even if it's not true. It;s because they think it is true.
It's the same reason why every female character now feels like a girl boss and ever black male character is given the same haircut. . The people making these shows are entitled rich people who don't understand their viewers, no matter what race or gender they are. All they know is sterotypes and what they see in cringe clickbait rants on social media.

@@Bebop8ubby What I described to you wasn't the synopsis it was the GENRE. Also, saying that The Acolyte is Kill Bill meets Frozen is something that writers do all the time to get their general point across. Buffy is My So-Called meets The X-files, Lost is Prisoner meets Lord of the Flies, and so on.

@@jasonvotaw5188 If you don't want Disney to think that you're racist then don't continually act in bad faith when every time there is female or minority lead in your favorite IP.

I watched the first episode. Actually liked it. Then immediately realized how tired I am of completely irrelevant Star Wars shows that take place hundreds of years in the past. We already know how the story ends for the Jedi. Focus on the present.
