After watching about 50 of your videos I just realized there isn't any cursing or profanity, just pure RC planes. Thank you flitetest for giving safe enjoyable content. Please continue doing such an amazing job.
A little tip with gas engines: Set the prop so that it rests parallel to the wings when the piston is at Top Dead Center (TDC). This way, if you get a dead-stick, the prob won't be stuck and down, and your landings will easier. It also helps when starting these bad boys up! Anyways, great job getting the old plane to fly. :) My dad actually has one just like it, although his is blue and while.
I'm feeling old at 50, I have never flown electric only gas and nitro 30 years ago, that plane looks easy to fly and runs good too. Thank you for bringing back memories.
ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! 2 things the R.C. world never thought we would hear....David saying,"this is my first time......" (16:28) and, "that thing scares me" (16:50) ALL of you guys are quite simply amazing, informative, entertaining, and absolutely BRILLIANT!!! Flite Test is very instrumental in restoring my passion for R.C. flight!!! Thanks guys! You've given flying and understanding all the facets of this hobby an "Easy Button"!!!
This is a special episode, seeing the uncertainty in their actions, people looking a bit amateurish. I mean this in a good way, the feeling of everyone coming together, sharing bits of knowledge and helping out to make this thing fly. It was really fun to watch, nice one guys (I know its old). You really need to do another gas episode. Maybe get a gas expert in to explain the fundamentals, then do a a team scratch build amongst all your crew. Could be fun. Also get David back, we don't here enough AWSOME at the moment, haha. With David, can you do a review on the UMX Whipit (how far from a gas plane could I go) people what to see that review from you!!!!
This brought back memories. I flew RC back in the early 70’s when all we had was 2 cycle nitro engines and 4 channel radios on the CB band, 27 MHz. My favorite plane was the Ugly Stick. It was a 72” wingspan pulled by an Enya 60. My first radio was a Heathkit, which I had to completely build, including the servos. Fly some more of the oldies. I think even the younger audience would like them.
I'm late to this party but have some interesting history for you about the Road Runner! It was designed and kitted by Frank Gunsaullus and he lived in Riverton, WY. My Father and I met him in 1956 in Guymon, OK. He and I were flying free flight and Dad was flying RC . Dad taught him to fly RC and they became best friends. I started flying RC in 57 and we really had a good time. Then in the early 60s Dad and Frank and 2 other guys bought a full scale 1946 Taylorcraft and Frank got his Instructor license so I became his first student when I was 16. I got 27 hours in the Tcraft and then they sold it so I didn't get my license until 1968. (BTW, they paid $800 for that Tcraft and each guy put in $200...I don't think any had enough on their own to buy it outright!) Later Frank and Dad sold go karts together...they were truly best friends. But in the late 60s or early 70s Frank moved to WY. When I retired from the Army in 94 I put in a Hobby Shop in San Antonio and drove to Wyoming to buy out another friend who had closed a hobby shop in Alabama. Since I was so close I went to see Frank in Riverton and we caught up on 30 years of lost time. I told him I had a friend looking for a 1.2 to 1.6 sized Ugly Stick and he told me his RoadRunner was that size and he thought he had a kit in his shop. I bought it and brought it home. My friend built it in 95-96 and flew it on an OS 1.60 glo engine. I now own it and fly it with a DLE 35cc gasser and it is awesome. It has oversize control surfaces and flaps and is very aerobatic. Wheel landings are beautiful. I fly it several times a month. If I could figure out how I would attach a picture of mine. Enjoyed your show and while many have given advice here's mine. You can put the fuel tank on the CG so the plane doesn't change from full to empty. The pump on the engine will pull the fuel just fine. You can make a cork fit the carb and use it to choke the engine. Put it in the venturi and use the spring starter until it fires...it can't run with the choke in so it will try to run and stop. Then take the cork out and it should start in 2-3 runs of the spring starter. Keep that gasser going...mine does flat Spins, tumbles, pop tops and point rolls just fine but as I said all surfaces are oversized! 👍🇺🇸🙂

I have to say I really like the behind the scenes type feel of this episode. Its nice watching a video and not being directly talked at the entire time. Good stuff!
The carburetor on that has a built in fuel pump that works with the pressure in the engine crankcase. The fuel tank can be below the carb and still run. But, carburetors with a bowl on the bottom of it needs the fuel tank to be above the carb because it gets fuel using gravity. You would need an external fuel pump if the gas tank is below the carburetor with a bowl in order to run. So, you're fine with the fuel tank. Hope this helps
A few years ago I bought a Great Planes kit the Ultra Sport 1000 and it suggested a Super Tigre 2500 for the engine. I put a Zenoah 38 gas engine in it and yes it was very nose heavy. I put a lot of tail weight in it and it flew like a dream. The guys at the field loved the way it flew. The landings were a little fast because it was nose heavy, but it flew great. Great episode and really good to see how everybody was involved! I cant believe how far Josh Scott has made it in such a short time of flying RC planes. Well done.
I love planes like this. Big, reliable, and easy to fly. No muss, no fuss, just go fly. And with gas you can fly forever on a tank. Do more gas videos.
Hey guys, finally a gasser ! I`m building a Senior Telemaster to use as a FPV platform with a FS120 4 stroke gas engine and would love to see you put some FPV equipment on this to see if the ignition messes with the FPV gear. I`v looked all over and no one knows if it will or not. If it does, maybe just need to shield the ignition. Would be a great build for all of us gasser freaks out there ! Also how about a GP Siren build ? Just a couple things a faithful watcher would like to see....
Awesome video guys! FYI don't use Klotz Benol two stroke oil if you fly in the winter, temps under 40 degrees F when combined with Benol can result in cylinder damage. Natural castor oil doesn't perform well in the cold, for all temp protection try Klotz Super-Technaplate.
I just got my first gaser yesterday! It has an evolution motor (which I love). My TRUE first was a texan with an old OS 70, but it wouldnt light. I love my new (used) VMAR vans rv 4!
Great video! Loved the added behind the scene stuff. I'm an avid electric guy but do like the occasional foray into the gas realm. About the motor, I spent my late teens as a small engine mechanic and can tell you that those two stroke motor carburetors have build in fuel pumps. this is so that they can run at any angle (think of how chainsaws and weed whackers are used).
Ha ha! That was Awesome! I did think that the plane was going to nose over either on landing or taxiing but to my surprise, it did fantastic! Way to go guys.
This was awesome. You really did capture the feelings we have flying these. I think thats why I give away plans for my little rc models. Just love to fly and help others to get the bug too. Great hobby! Thanks for this and subbed!
Agree with some of the other commenters here. Would love to see some more behind the scenes in your videos where appropriate. Great video. Please keep up the great work.
another good one guys. I'm sure you can figure out something very creative to do with it. like, how many cameras can you put on one plane? or how about a revisit of mid air package exchange trailing the package far behind this huge plane to avoid turbulence?
So cool to see Josh B. Getting so Into flying this gaser! Love your shows!!! I request more reviews in future shows. I wind up buying almost everything you guys review! All the best to the whole crew!
Being a small engine hobbyist, I spotted a few things I would say differently. The engine doesn’t “suck” per say, it draws. The primer bulb doesn’t shoot fuel in the intake, it primes the system. A servo-actuated choke would definitely help that engine start easier. You can’t flood a two stroke by tilting it with the engine not running. They run on fuel pumps, so no gravity feed or float bowl, aka no way for the engine to flood out. A fuel pump, especially diaphragm carburetors, don’t need the fuel tank in my specific position, they’ll draw fuel no matter what, running or not running. Primer bulb and choke is the best way to start a two stroke engine. Also, David cutting his finger on the prop. That happened because the compression pushed the piston backwards, spinning the prop backwards, and whacking David’s finger.
That is freaking awesome, great video guys! I really prefer the casual videos, it's really interesting watching how you all work together. You sure did grease that landing Josh! Good work!
I´m and old gas/nitro era dinosaur!! so loved this " jurassic" episode, okey, may be im not thta old, but started my career when nitro was only option ( same did josh), then switched to electric, was a good option when family grew and not too much time left on sundays for preparation /engine care/ cleaning. This video was a good inspiration for getting some of my "old" nitro T rex back into the air! thxs guys. Gas is awesoe, just take a look to everyone faces when that thing started running!
I still come back and watch this episode from time to time. When I was a kid I dreamed of building one of these out of an old weed eater that had a broken shaft, but the engine ran great. Someday, maybe.
Great video. Really enjoyed it. What I would say though is that now I understand why you guys havent done more gas stuff; most of you dont know much about it! No disrespect intended but its amazing to see how new school Chad and David are with their knowledge of RC gear. All electric and mostly built from foam. Thats obviously where the hobby is going more and more.. At my local field we fly 90% nitro. Please do more gas and nitro planes!!!
love this episode i feelt like i was there, really! All you guys seems to have such a good time together! Love when everyone gets to fly it and you change pilot in mid air, crazy.. keep the good work going dudes
Great episode guys! It would be really nice if you could do some videos with the basics of gas engines for those of us who only have experience with electric flight. Like the FPV videos you've been doing. Love your show, really fun and helps us learn a lot!
Excellent work guy's it's so good to see you starting to cover other power systems especially Gas engines as oh yes they sound the poodles plums, cant wait to see you guys get your hands on a radial engine then you will really see some smiles on flite test... my next project will be a gas powered bird as they just have something that all other power systems just lack...
Worth a second watch or third or more. Great work flite test.
Really enjoyed that episode! I really liked the documentary/behind the scenes feel. Switching up the formats really livens up the show!
another good one guys. I'm sure you can figure out something very creative to do with it. like, how many cameras can you put on one plane? or how about a revisit of mid air package exchange trailing the package far behind this huge plane to avoid turbulence?
You guys are amazing. Thanks for this video, these are the ones that make FT what it is!

Beautiful landing Love the 2 stroke motors AWESOME plane all together
So cool to see Josh B. Getting so Into flying this gaser! Love your shows!!! I request more reviews in future shows. I wind up buying almost everything you guys review! All the best to the whole crew!
Excellent show. Really enjoyed this episode!
I wanted to see this FPV so badly
this is my favorite episode of flitetest
It sounds super sweet, WWII grunt!
I watched the video a few times just to enjoy the engine sound.
Love the "fly on the wall style". Keep it up!
Loved the episode guys! I really liked seeing what goes on behind the scenes!
Good work!
I'm watching this at 11:22 STOP!! You guys are out of your mind!!!!!! I like it!!!!
This video had a very nice format. Keep up the great work!
I want more videos with the Roadrunner in it! I love its sound!
You guys bring out that old Polaroid Land camera in a fit of nostalgia? Seriously, you got my mind on the weed trimmer gathering dust in my garage....
I guess this is one of ur best videos..i like the shooting style
I love the intro a lot, so clean.
OMG... the memories.... old Kraft radios, Fox engines, push-rods made from coat hangers and cloth hinges on the control surfaces...
I still come back and watch this episode from time to time. When I was a kid I dreamed of building one of these out of an old weed eater that had a broken shaft, but the engine ran great. Someday, maybe.
ive been waiting for you guys to come to the world of the gasser!!!!!!!!!!!my world!!!!!!
This is one of my favourite episodes.
I like behind the scenes videos like this
Great episode guys! It would be really nice if you could do some videos with the basics of gas engines for those of us who only have experience with electric flight. Like the FPV videos you've been doing. Love your show, really fun and helps us learn a lot!
Finally FlightTest takes up a real r/c plane!
That moment when engine runs, all the people glowing with bright smiles! 😇😋✌
Keep up the good work guy's A☆☆☆☆☆
Josh Bix is soooo happy in this. love it :)
Awesome video with great sense of humor!
Great plane and flying. Sounds real.
Well done guys! Loved this episode :)
I really felt like I was there hanging out with you guys!
Gass-a-ROOO !!!!
I love the classic stick look. It would be nice to have a classic stick speed build kit.
Do a mid air refuelling
Yeah that would be cool!
That’s a good idea
Yeeeeees!
I love the big gasser, and I really love seeing Chad rocking the Polaroid. :)
WOW, so interesting. Nice with the "behind the scenes".
