Simplex female voice-evac message

- I found out that there is a version of Simplex's infamous default 4100/4120/4100U/4100ES voice-evacuation message that is spoken by a female voice instead of the usual male voice. They have this at the middle school near my house (Simplex 4100U voice-evacuation system). It says the exact same message word-for-word, but seems a bit slower-paced than the male version.
The reason why the alarms were going off was because the main control panel has a few bugs in it currently, and they are trying to work it out. After doing some work on the panel, the technician would activate the nearest pull station (by opening it), then let the alarm sound a bit before silencing and resetting the system (it has audible silence, so the strobes continue to flash before the system is reset). Plus I am a friend of the principal here (he was one of my teachers at MY middle school).
I can honestly say that this is probably the quietest fire alarm I've ever heard in my life, in fact it's SO low-volumed they had to put a speaker/strobe in each classroom!
As of August 2011, the Simplex 4100U system was removed and replaced with a Notifier NFS2-640 voice-evac system after it began failing. They even got the TrueAlert speaker/strobes working on it, no doubt using the Gentex sync protocol.
These particular alarms are, indeed, very quiet. When no automated message is used, they are downright ineffective. I’ve heard them go off in a public place before, and they were so quiet that people hardly noticed until they were told by staff or noticed the flashing strobes. The whoop tone was not any louder than the background noise, and could’ve just as easily been some sort of security system.
That's because people don't pay these alarms any mind, but I bet you if she said "THE SELF DESTRUCT SYSTEM HAS BEEN ACTIVATED" or "A NUCLEAR ATTACK HAS BEEN CONFIRMED!!" They'd hear it and they'd run, lol.
yeah speaker strobes are not that loud
This is loud
I really like this message, the female one is slower that the male one, which is faster.
Wait What do you mean slower.
"Thought you would pay more attention to a female voice"
I played this on my PA at work (over night at grocery store) and my coworkers booked it lol
I remembered a time that voice evac in schools (at least in my area) wasn’t very common (especially when this video was uploaded) then several years later, voice evac is now common in schools.
Yep. My high school is planning to undergo an expansion/renovation project soon, and they're obviously going to be replacing their ancient Simplex systems (4040 horns) with a nice new voice-evac setup, probably EST or Notifier. And then when my middle school finally replaces their really ancient Gamewell fire alarm system from 1957 (with flush-mount Federal Signal explosionproof horns), they'll obviously be going with voice-evac as well (but in this case it'll most likely be just Notifier.)
@@ZakWolf Wait, Didn't u say in the description that They Replaced this System with a Notifier/Honeywell Voice Evac Panel. Do u happen to know why they are Re-Doing the system again if the new one was installed in 2011(9 Years ago)

Schools should start using speaker strobes instead of horn strobes. It will be much less startling and it won't scare the children as much.
WAY too expensive.

Actually, newer codes require this.
William Kim yes my true alerts are loud!!!!!
That’s the same female voice evacuation message but I only hear that while wearing my wireless headphones during the Fire Drill at the program I’m in right now
loved the Simplex's infamous default 4100/4120/4100U/4100ES voice-evacuation message it was really good to today's standard code as well. it has the 2001/2120 message too.
i did used ivona to recreate est voice vac from scratch since I cannot find the original one which the actual one was taken down or something.
That setup you described is exactly what the newer suites on IUP's campus have. I don't know what panel they have, the smoke detector model, or pull station model but the rooms themselves have a smoke detector with a sounder and from what my friend told me they produce a steady tone and they use Simplex TrueAlert Horn/Strobes in the halls. Since they are new systems they are all set to do code-3/temporal.
lol it would be pretty funny if it was Sweet Brown's voice. "Oh Lord Jesus there's an emergency! Don't grab yo backpacks or nothin Jesus, run fo yo life! Don't let the smoke get you, you'll get bronchitis. AIN'T NOBODY GOT TIME FO THAT!"

Stephen R *slow whoop or horn sound plays*
spooka770 here’s an example of slow whoop 0:01-0:11
@@csx6025gamer robloxian
That system is set to slow whoop it sounds like they have it set up the way my dad's old place did. They had a pre-4100x voice evac system that did this same message with the male voice but it had the older style slow whoop which I've said actually deserves the name slow. It may just be that this did three whoops before the voice kicked in. It sounds like to plays three times then goes back to whooping just as his did.
Actually Federal Signal does make Fire Alarms as well they are just not very common. The off-campus apartments near the big cafeteria-style dining hall on campus were my friend used to live has Federal Signal pull stations. They are either using federal signal horn/strobes or speaker/strobes but I've never heard it go off. And yes Federal signal does have a voice evac system.
I like this evacuation system!
Best Top 3
@wileyk209zback & the Davis, Huntington, & Raymond Schools still have Simplex Systems.
That whooping sound is great in my humble opinion
dude i remember coming into summer camp one morning as a kid and this alarm was going off for the whole day
Maybe they are using the female voice to make it easier to understand. The typical male simplex voice has been around since at least the late 80s and computer voice technology has improved by leaps and bounds since
@Voyage400 I agree; my high school has voice evac (or possibly a tone generator) tied into Gentex WSSPK24-15/75WR Speaker/Strobes in the Auditorium, Gym, Locker Rooms, and Cafeteria (they do Code-3 Slow Whoop). The rest of the school has Gentex Commander 2 and Commander 3 Horn/Strobes and Commander 2 and Commander 3 Strobes in Some parts like small restrooms.
oh uh just to point out that this has a female voice but it might be still active for newer ones I know to used to be defunct but not anymore they still make these its still active with the male voice of course but whats defunct is the 4003 voice evac box.
Yes; I was saying that the Simplex system in the video is defunct; it was failing and got replaced with a Notifier NFS2-640 system. And yes, the 4003 has been discontinued and replaced with the Simplex 4003EC, which is basically a Wheelock SafePath 4 but with the Simplex alert tones.
@@ZakWolf ouch its ok I still have a newer version it still works and truealert are know as truealert es for newer ones. so in the building was now using Honeywell products such as Notifier. oh one more thing the quickpath panel was a mess to reset I think united technology was not aware how bad that panel was unlike these working ones.
@@ZakWolf keep in mind the simplex was usually by tyco but it is now by johnson controls.
In my 1st and and 2 grade school we had this one and it was so freaking loud I now have ptsd from it
Does This School Still Have These Speaker Strobe.
Unfortunately No, they were replaced by Notifier voice evac system because they failed in 2011.
@@ilovebasketball2359 what do you mean it had bugs in it
@@jacobisworld9516 im pretty sure the system failed so they had to replace it in August 2011
She is so good
If they switch to horn/Strobes, maybe they'll have voice evacuation (or a tone generator) for the gym, cafeteria, and/or auditorium.
Think I had that exact tone at my older school, but it had a much different design and it had no voice. It also had this “eeeeeeeeeee” wheelock exceeder tone
@wileyk209zback I think the femail voice is a bit more plesent. The way she reads the message is a bit creepy but i like her voice.
Awful that they would replace such a good voice evac system like that. My old high school has a Simplex 4100U voice evac and I just found out that Simplex no longer services the system anymore probably for the same reasons as here.

the panels at his place didn't even have LCD's or the red buttons like the current ones do I don't remember the entire reset procedure but to silence it instead of a "System Silence" button you had to flip a switch labeled "OSC STOP" and the panel just had red LED's for Alarm, yellow for trouble, and I think it had one green LED for power/system normal. It was a big black panel that much I remember
Sounds like an old Simplex 2001 system!
When i went to great wolf lodge the alarms went off and i found out that it is the same voice evac message
yeah i know i am really glad we may be getting new alarms this school year
“Uttention uttention uttenion”
That's good. I recently went to an office building lately that had... I think they are called Federal Signal 350s with the open grill. Looked like a Simplex 4040. I examined them for a second, and I was pretty sure they were Federal Signal.
my high school has spectralerts classic even outside but the ones outside are damaged and warned out but the system still works
@wileyk209zback yeah she said when they had the simplex system she said her school had a female voice too and the new siemens system she says it is a female voice too.
Thats exactly what my schools fire alarm is... we have 4 floors and two buldings...
Why cant we have these alarms during a fire drill at school especially when i first started pre school in 2011 the fire alarm went off and it scared the shit out of me but i lived in mass and we had like 4 fire drills a year
You are lucky at my school they have simplex 4030 horns and some other mystery alarm that looks like a Wheelock but sounds nothing like it. The 4030s are loud and the mystery alarms are also very loud so loud that you can hear them clearly outside... and whats worse is that the teacher wont allow us to plug our ears when they go off
Yeah they were the red LifeAlarm speaker/strobes or just the speaker with triangular strobe plates
Gary Beltz 0:23
Woah this is Hotel alarm!
Interesting that the strobes don't flash before the alarm sounds. Most of the EVAC systems are set up that way...
I've noticed when a public place has these there seems to be a lot more in one area than you would think. I've never personally heard these go off other than videos so i dont know how loud they really are. I bet they are really quiet though
That is a different version of the slow whoop than the default one.
Willeyk209zback you can have anything you want on any system so long as the panel uses the proper voltage and amps and the system is the same as old as far as whether it's conventional or addressable. Twoplyboy has a Simplex 4100 bell test video that has white non-labled speakers and the panel is of course a Simplex 4100 but the pull stations are Edwards 270-SBO's
Wiley have you gotten a chance to hear what the Notifer system that replaced this system sounds like with the tone and message?
He never got a video of it because he's no-longer a friend of the principal here
Do you like this voice better than the male voice?
That’s the exact same message at my old preschool.
Cool! I like this one. I have never heard it before.
This is what my college has, though I think the voice is a male one.
@franksusu1 Male or Female voice?
If you can evacuate from the. Noise and get outside and get out of the building and stay outside until the noise. Has been stopped by the. Fire fighters

They should have gotten Majel Barrett (she played Nurse Chapple on star trek and did the voice for the star fleet computers) to record the message.Just a thought.
Bill Slater that would've been cool.
I was thinking that same thing .Yay! :D
Respond to this video... Have you heard the voice message and tone of the notifier system?
This was before the emergency services
Yes, I do recall seeing the video of you revisiting you school's alarms, which is one of my favorite videos. Oh yeah, the 4040s. I own one, just never found out how to wire it up. Do you know how many decibals that 4040 produced by any chance? Sounds like those were real ear destroyers...
That suck's that they have to replace the system.
That is the slower version of the simplex voice message than the other female voice message on 4100ES.
+Riley Bruck Isn't the standard message on the ES "There is a fire emergency in the building! You are to leave the building by the nearest exit or exit stairway. DO NOT USE THE ELEVATORS!"
+Gary Beltz No, according to the datasheet for the voice-evac 4100ES, the standard message is the same as on the 4100/4120/4100U. I think they come with the male version as default, though you can request for a female version or other custom messages.
I stepped on a Lego and died. 🚹♂️. 📺
the same happend at my sister old school for middle school and high she went a christion school they used to have simplex system with ture alert spearker strobs but i think they were haveing problems so in late 2006 the system was replace with a simons system voice they stall had the ture alerts and simplex smokes but in late 2007 they were replace with wheeluck E50 speaker strobs and simons smokes.
They have this same system in a 28-floor bank building I work in. Everyone refers to it as "Mother", in honor of the self-destruct sequence from Alien. It's de rigeur that you quote Mother when they test it after 6 PM.

we have the same alarms where I work the only difference its a male voice that does that evac message
At first I I thought it was someone going AHHHHH!

No
my high school has voice speaker alarm
And also right before the alarm starts, what is that thing you hear in the background.
The HVAC running.
@@ZakWolf what does HVAC stand for?
I think they had alarms like that in my schools.
@wileyk209zback I have a strobe in my dorm.. It's so annoying when I've gotta deal with the smoke alarm and the fire alarm hurrying me out of my room, and now this strobe.. It's a bit unnecessary to have strobes in student's rooms since there's already a (fairly loud) smoke alarm
My old college dorm had this. The system was always weird and malfunctioning. Imagine this siren going off at 6am when you're dead asleep. I've never moved faster.
Just went off at 6:30 Am had a full blown panic attack

Creepy fire alarm!
My high school I go to has multitone true alert horn strobes and normal true alert horn strobes mixed with like 4 spectralert advanced that replaced the broken true alerts
I subscribed! Nice video!
Pinewood?
i have in our school was the same message
Could you give a other update is the new system in and could you tell us what kind of system do they have now.
@wileyk209zback well mine flash because I apply power to the strobe before I hit play on the audio. The sound delay in reality definately has something to do with the system...
I've been wanting to try to find an explosion proof horn, one of the flush mounts but I cannot seem to find the rear flush mount plate on Ebay. An old school near me had the same ones, the flush mounts, but grey. I hope they upgrade soon...
At school the strobes always flash
It would be bad if they didn't...
The same siren as my school but different voice evac and it is quiet at mine
At my school there is a simplex fire alarm but it's just a long, continuous, loud...
*BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP*
TrueAlert horn/strobes or something older?
This is my middle school (Rushe) fire alarm
when bobux stolen:
100-110 dB!? Yikes, almost as loud as a Thunderbolt 1003 Siren, that pumps out a good 135 decibels! I'm surprised not even as loud as a SpectrAlert. Oh yes, I do have a quick question. The Federal Signal Flush Mounts. Besides explosion proof, do they have any other names or number code? (4040, 350, etc)
100 dB directly in front of the alarm. Air raid sirens are measured at 100 ft away.
I think this alarm is around 75 dB at 10 feet making it seem like it's not loud at all as in the Hallways is bad because students can get louder than the alarm which is why NFPA 72 says that alarms need to be 15 dB higher in ambient noise levels but in the classroom it's fine because the classroom isn't loud at all and they adjust the volume by setting the wattage levels just like you can do this on almost every horn strobe
@wileyk209zback I have heard different evac messages the one in this video is the same as what we have on our alarm system
Do you know if Voice Evacuation Messages are already pre-installed in Speaker Strobes or do you put it in yourself?
Speaker strobes don’t have a pre-installed message. You will have to put it in your self.
Thanks. I've just been searching high and low to try to find one of those flush mount plates. There is a place near me with the same alarm system, the flush mounts. They are grey. Don't know when they'll upgrade though...
