Ford Edge - How To Change Your Spark Plugs & Ignition Coils | Pass Smog

  • I performed a tune-up by replaced the spark plugs, I had to remove the intake manifold on a Ford Edge. I need to change the spark plugs and ignition coils to turn off the check engine light. The car was running sluggish and would hesitate, now both problems are fixed. A major tune-up will solve most problems including resetting the check engine light. The car had a few OBD2 codes that got fixed with this procedure. ( p0300)

That's why I don't go to stealer ships anymore. It's an easy DIY project, just take your time, I replaced mine plugs yesterday & took 5hrs, I took plenty of breaks and used 3 cans of carb cleaner on the intake, don't forget di-electric grease and anti-seize on the threads

Great job on the demonstration. Seeing the parts separately really helps explain and makes it easier to understand what goes where. I’ll probably be doing this next month or so as preventative. No problems now but I’d rather do this when I’m ready instead of when there is a problem that needs immediate attention. I’ll definitely be watching again when I get there. Also great idea to swap coils as a test. Cheers.

I'm getting ready to replace all my coil packs and plugs on my 2009 Edge. I just bought this car 6 months ago and right now it has 145K on the clock. I'm a courier and I put 2,000/month on this car. I've been getting little jerks and hesitations at various speeds and they are intermittent. I've not put on a code reader. Given the mileage I'm going with my gut on this one and just doing it as at this mileage point it wouldn't hurt to do it anyway. I do pretty much all my own wond on all my cars but I always go to RUclips when performing a task on a vehicle for the first time. Your presentation is well thought out, delivery is nicely done and comprehensive on every aspect of the task so I give you top thumbs and you, my friend, have earned another subscriber. Thank you!

This is an excellent video. I have had several vehicles that all seem to have ignition coil issues. For those who are inexperienced diagnosing issues, it feels like your call is literally dying. But its a minor issue. Unfortunately its getting harder and harder to get to the coil packs. Thank you for explaining/showing how easy this can be to do it yourself. Also one other comment, it looks like this is a Ford Edge w/3.5L engine as opposed to the 3.7L. After looking under my hood the components all look the same.

@@oxmanagain It went well. I actually have a 2008 and I already have a K&N cold air induction, so I did not have to take off the airbox. But it was similar enough that I knew exactly what needed to be done from your video. The big thing is that I never would have found that bolt under the throttle body (big thank you). I used your safety tip and covered the intake openings with a towel. I have also heard that the back ignition coils can fail sooner than the front because of the heat they are exposed to so I moved the front ones to the back and back to front. Thanks again.

Make sure you torque to factory specs. Intake manifold bolts are 89 inch pounds and there is s specific sequence to tightening them to guarantee the manifold does not warp. Even the spark plugs have a torque spec. I believe it is 11 ft pounds. You can find the specs/sequence online.

I need your assistance on some of the same issues in my Ford edge 2011 sport is doing. It’s also running with hesitation taking off at stop sign stop light go on up and down hills have no power. I had the spark plugs and a coil or two changed I’m not sure what and which one they actually did but I too would like to perform the same procedure you just did here. The only issue I have is not knowing the correct spark plugs to change out I did go onto Amazon and found the right coils that I needed. But I also have no engine light coming on so it’s kind of tricky because we thought it might’ve been a throttle issue. But I’ve had a throttle cleaned out and worked real good for about a couple days and then it started back up with the same thing. Is it anyway you can get back in contact To help me with this issue thank you.
