"the kids that no one else can work with, the kids that no one else wants..." OKAY. Here's the thing. Autistic people are some of the most lovely people I have ever met. Don't you dare speak about these amazing people in terms of them having some sort of disease. I can't stand it when people who don't actually understand them speak about them as if they are burdens.

ur friendly neighborhood turtle Thank you! Im autistic too and honestly i agreed! People today need to understand that we're all different and handly different situations and sounds etc. differently. People need to accept eachother for who we are instead of constantly having to walk around with a mask struggling everyday to be like them when the truth is that we can be oike them cause we're just us. We're just who we are and we can't help it!

Autistic people are misunderstood, I think this video is focusing more on how the parents try to cope with their child being autistic than the child itself. Yes, it requires a lot of patience and love but they are great people and show progress over time. Sending all my love out to parents with children on the spectrum and the children themselves ❤️

Why is autism always pictured as this awful illness, that destroys families and needs to be cured?...
Autistic people just have a different view of the world and cope differently than most of us.. it's nothing bad and it's nothing that needs to be "cured"...
Our society just has to learn about, accept, understand and appreciate those who are "different" so we can help everyone feel safe, accepted and loved!

Because it destroys families and NEEDS to be cured. Especially when the child in nonverbal and has tendency to violent temper tantrums. There is a difference between misunderstood soul and child screaming nonsense. I get they see world in different way, but this is not an excuse to quit being productive member of society. I do not expect much, just the basic like going to work, talking with people, taking care of themselves, behaving in appropriate way. Autism needs to be cured not for us "normie" but for autistic people.

This video is not about 'autism awareness' it is about parents coping with something that has put a strain on them. This is not raising awareness of autism and how it affects people who live with it (I mean live with it, not live with someone who lives with it).

I remember my first diagnosis of autism. The parents' reaction when they heard I was diagnosed was the same reaction my parents made, they didn't understood the meaning or what must be done. But when they read the books and watched movies about it, they began to prepare themselves of what they might experience as parents with an autistic child. But there are 3 levels of autism: mild, moderate and severe. My autism is a mild leveled case. So I had a little hard time understanding the world more, I am more good in English and Reading skills, but math skills are not my specialty. I never throw tantrums, I don't overreact to loud sensory, I began to understand the world more growing up. My parents never gave up because they knew there was hope in me that I can function like a normal human being.

I remember when my daughter started school i took her a school and they knew she was autistic and was so willing to have her. I was happy. I just found out that my daughter had autism. So that made me feel great. And within 2 wks they kicked her out. They couldn't handle her. I was confused. I told them everything. And i spent so much $, money i didn't have to make sure my baby was in good hands and getting a wonderful education like every child deserves. I was heart broken but it just opened another door for her at another location and im glad now looking back on it that i went thru that. I feel bad for my daughter because she was tossed like trash but now she loves her school. And the staff is great. Teachers amazing. Couldn't ask for more.

Mom was right. The kid needed to be in institution at least until when they figure out how to get to the daughter. That is called caregiver role strain. People need to stop romanticizing autism as a misunderstood genius syndrome. It can present severe problems in communication. Parents often cannot do it by themselves.

My whole 12 almost 13 years of living, my grandmother and both my parents believed I have autism. When I started middle school, I started to notice that in different from the rest. Going back to when I was 8 years old, I started to act psychotic and bipolar. I had terrible anxiety and paranoia. I suffered for 2 years until when I was 10 I tried self harming. My parents filed for a psychiatrist appointment and when the day came, I’ve been diagnosed with severe bipolar disorder, depression, and anxiety.
One day when I was 11, I was ranting about how I don’t like being touched or I hate loud sounds and pointing out my weird, strange habits. My parents looked at each other stunned....my mom started tearing up and my dad said in a shaky voice that he, my mom and my grandmother believed for the longest time that I have autism.
I have had horrendous experiences that had changed my life for the worst.
I’ve been ‘restrained’ by my father who suffocated me. I have had homicidal thoughts to him and I can’t love or trust him much. So a week ago, I was diagnosed with PTSD. I experience nightmares, I’ve been more depressed and distant and I have a crippling fear like no other.
On April 1st, I start autism assessments. I have a para teacher who is really nice and helpful and she told my parents that she believes in autistic.
Fortunately, with the help of my girlfriend in our LGBTQ relationship and my close friends, life is becoming slowly easier!!✨✨✨

Autism looks very different from person to person. Some people in the spectrum can graduates school, hold jobs, get married. Others will never be verbal, struggle with basic coordination skills, and have no ability to care for themselves. For some families an autistic child makes their family a little different for other families, depending on what services are available to them and the level of severity, it can be nightmarish.

On the spectrum myself. This whole horror-show "film" could have ended right at the beginning with 30-year-old technology (speech synthesis software has existed since 1977). They didn't quite stoop to the level of Autism Speaks (using badly physically/mentally retarded individuals), but they didn't fall too short of that mark.
This a money-making ploy. It's similar to the staging of children with flies all over them for the "feed the starving children" charities. Put simply, why would a child not brush away an insect from its face, unless directed not to do so? Madness.
Certainly they will say "why is it bad if we help people?" Perhaps you do, but you hurt many more. People think autism is practically the black plague because of these misleading videos. It's atrocious. Often people misunderstand that autism is the least of the people's problems who are featured in these "films". Autism is a developmental disorder, it does not cause serious physical deformities. A person on the spectrum may have them, but they are completely unrelated.
The fact is that there are very easy solutions for non-verbal people on the spectrum. If Hellen Keller could learn to read & write, do you really expect me to understand that lack of verbal communication is tantamount to a death sentence for an entire family? Seriously, go watch "The Theory of Everything", then come back & tell me this video makes any sense at all.
My wife & I have been trying to have a child, but have been unsuccessful. Do you know the one reason it makes me sad to be looking into adoption? Because I probably won't get a kid on the spectrum. I hope we do get a wonderful child on the spectrum. If we don't, that's okay too, but I hope we do. Autism doesn't make parents "give up" on their children, shitty parents are the only thing that even CAN make them give up.
The recent claims of an "autism epidemic" are also ridiculous. The fact that diagnosticians are better at detecting it does not mean it just started happening. Again, some groups (not going to point a finger at Autism Speaks...oh shit, I just did) have latched on to this "demonize the autistics" stratagem because it pulls people's heart-strings, which pulls their wallet-strings.

    • @TheMaxmax5454
      @TheMaxmax5454 3 года назад

Hi Durham, I produced this video based on my daughter and my experience, she is 25 years old and still is non-verbal and has severe behaviors. These experiences are all based on actual events that happened to my daughter. As far as diagnosis being better as the reason for more cases, I say bullshit, my daughter would have been tagged with some label due to her severity. As far as it not being a bad thing, in my case I would do anything and have done everything at great cost to "cure her" and it is a bad thing. Many people with mild autism do great things, that is cool but don't put my daughter or people like her in that group, severe Autism sucks for my daughter and it sucks for her family, but we will not give up. Max

Hi this is based on a true story! I am sorry her story offends you. She was diagnosed and was constantly turned away by everyone (autism is a spectrum as you probably know) until she came across a school that would work with her. She spoke at one point and then decided one day to never speak again... so she did suddenly start declining with speech therapy as well.
It is also hard to get kids to "act" at the age in which they are normally diagnosed. If you know some kids around 1 or 2 that will portray and listen please let me know, thank you! Also there are times in which people are diagnosed later in life so please do not think that is not realistic.

This video shows a very sad depiction of autism. It shows a medical model of disability rather than a social model of disability. It doesn't aim to educate the people who misunderstand the child but merely try to "save" the child. The child doesn't need saving. The child doesn't need to be "cured". The child needs society to accept her for who she is. How about something that educates society, rather than stigmatising the spectrum, hey???
