How did you guys get past that sketchy ledge?! It looks impossible to get on. Was there another way around it ? Will possibly go very soon. Other than that nice video!
We just pulled ourselves up by hand. There is another way to the lighthouse. There is a trail you can take that spurs off the main trail right behind a picnic table at the base of your first real climb. People said it was longer so we opted out
Is there any camping allowed? I’m new to Texas and stay in Amarillo, I am looking for some local spots to camp. I am in my early 30’s and haven’t camped since I was 10 :(
Yes camping is allowed in certain areas. I don’t think the lighthouse is a camping area though. Any google search for a map and you will be there in no time. 👍🏻 have fun!
I was just thinking about this same topic today. It took me about 4 pairs of hiking shoe returns before I found the ones that I loved. It’s going to vary from person to person but “merrell Moab adventure lace” has been my favorite by far. I’ve put a lot of miles on them and they are great. I was really impressed with the grip that these things have. It takes a lot for my foot to slip in these and that’s what you need on steep inclines. I highly recommend!
But this hike is not that bad. Fairly moderate hike unless they want to explore up a steep area. It’s relatively flat until you reach the lighthouse base and even that could be done in any tennis shoe.
How long did the hike take you to complete? We’ll be lodging at Caprock Canyon SP but would like to day visit and do this trail at Palo Duro. Thanks in advance. Beautiful footage!
It depends on the person but I will say this...the trail is super easy for about .8 of the mile. The rest is the more difficult part. Very steep terrain at the very end. You can see some of it in the video.
Flying a Drone in that park is illegal. I asked for permission and was denied. I've been told Texas only has two state parks where you can obtain permission to fly. Other than that, good video. That's a neat place.
Drones are not allowed in Texas State Parks without a permit except for in two parks with specified zones for flying remote-controlled aircraft (including drones): Lake Whitney and San Angelo. You can request a filming permit for your craft at any park by contacting that park. Allow several weeks for the park to review your request.
Thanks for sharing. We are heading out there this week. Happy trails
I love Palo Duro!
Awesome video! My family visited last week. We didn’t get to do any hiking, we just drove through.
Thanks...you should go back and explore
We hope to go back when my little one is older!!
Awesome video
Thanks
Texas always feels like this to me since I grew up watching Tex Avery, Charro and as well as looney tunes lol
A lot of it is just flat
hah. nothing like the woodlands where im from
Loving the drone footage. We recently visited this park and it's amazing. Have you hiked the Rock Garden trail? Thanks for taking us on the trails.
No I have not. I keep saying I want to head back out there and do the garden trail
@@codybrichard We recently visited Palo Duro for the first time. Rock Garden and Light House are the trails we did. Planning on coming back soon :-)
Really high mountains there in the Canyon

Do you have to get a permit to fly there? Visiting soon and would love to get some ariel footage
What type of footwear do you recommend for this hike? I plan on doing this hike with my kids who are 19, 14 and 9.

I think it took us 4 or 5 hrs. We took our time with this hike because it was the only hike we had for this day so it can be done a lot faster
@@codybrichard great! Thanks for the response. Appreciate it!
how hard would you say the hike is. I have heard everything from a Sunday stroll to professional only

@@codybrichard Thank you so much for your help
You got this! 👍🏻
at the 3:40 point in the video... at what time of day was it?
I’m not 100% but I thinks it’s safe to say somewhere between 9-12 noon.
cool... thanks... just want to make sure I have good sunlight for pictures..... and of course the sun at the right spot....

Even without a permit, doesn’t site a statute. Its more of a policy than a law
Nice video, make sure you put that dog on a leash next time
