I bought my work truck from a JUNKYARD!! ... Here's why.

- In this video, I begin my series all about my new work truck. I decided to lay the groundwork by explaining the circumstances in which I purchased Grim (Grim Repo is his name!) and answered a very pressing (and annoying!!) question: why would I ever buy a vehicle from a salvage yard.
See the "How" portion here: • Tips for Inspecting a ...
Well, I hope that this answers your questions!! Thanks so much to Pull-A-Part for making this video possible!!
🔧
ALSO, if you are interested, here is the link to my class offerings: www.pistonsandpixiedust.com/w... and I do offer my "How to Buy and Sell a Car Without Getting Screwed" class about 4 times a year.

The amazing (very Texas-y sounding!) music in this video is "Fringe Trimmed Boots" by Bird Creek. I don't think that they require any sort of recognition to use their music, but it's a bomb song so I wanted to include it anyways. THANKS, Y'ALL!!

I don’t see a lot of lady automotive techs in the field, but I think it’s cool to see women gain an interest in the field.
Any trade.
You are so refreshing !! Not only do you have a wonderfully positive attitude, you have a brain, and actually use it to share your knowledge with others !! I have seen you for years on TV, but I also like this format, too !! Keep going, and continue educating us !! Thank you !!
I wish all girls were as cool as Faye thanks for the great vid.
Yo momma is cool
All girls are cool ya freak.
To be fair I work in a well paid job in banking but drive an '01 Camry which I purchased last year for the equivalent of about $1200 USD. Let me tell you a secret from banking:
Often the people who can least afford it who want the latest and greatest cars. Vehicle manufacturers use credit to allow insecure people to buy/lease cars they can't afford to impress other people in some vain attempt to attain social status. It's a completely pointless arms race.
Also never having to worry about exchanging paintwork has it's advantages out on the highway when people try to bully their way into your lane or merge without looking/indicating. At $1200 all in I will show absolutely NO contrition.
Same, I drive a '97 Nissan Maxima, can easily afford something nice and have many other nice(er) cars. Driving junk is the best. I don't worry about SHIT! I don't think I EVER washed this car, just do routine maintenance on it...
same, got a old mini van and it is very good and surprisingly quick. great in the snow too.
Drive it until the wheels fall off !
Thomas TRUE!! Especially when some person thinks they're in charge of the road and drive into your lane on a road that curves!!!
Well after driving junk for the last 15+ years,(87 chevy astro, 90 ford tbird,93 gmc sierra)I finally treated myself to a new tacoma trd off road 4x4. Not regretting it at all!
Faye It's really good to see that you are keeping it real...getting a truck from the recycling yard...
The first 3 minutes of this video are among of the smartest I've ever seen on RUclips. Faye gets it done for pennies on the dollar. Wow.
Awww thank you so much!!!
My daily driver is a 1999 4Runner with 284k. I bought it with 263k and replaced struts, ball joints, rear axle seals and bearings, brakes, u-joints and a few smaller things. Runs great and shifts smooth as new. You bought the right truck.
Very inspirational Faye. You’re an undiscovered gem in RUclips! 👌👏👌👏👏
I think I saw her on All Girls Garage!
Faye, most of us have a story about buying a POS early on, you're not alone. Nothing wrong with giving new life to a tired, old car. Keep it up, I really enjoy your videos!
I always admire people like you, basically turning the impossible into possible👍👌
😅😅😅
Damm girl you is a badass. Much respect to the hardwork
I bought a pt cruiser (first car ever) and it was a total pos. The silver lining is, is that I’ve learned about the cars and I’ve even fixed things myself which makes me proud to be able to say that. Loved this video, you just gained a new sub ❤️❤️

Tell that to my Mrs.....
Beautiful
That service uniform fits you perfectly! Professionalism and style
Young lady, you ROCK and your videos ROCK!! I just subscribed to your channel. Keep 'em coming!
Now this is what I'd call a strong woman. If I had a daughter I'd want her to be just like you
Dude, likewise. I sent my daughter a video as she and Faye sound alike and have similar mannerisms.
You are so beautiful and awesome and most of all so real a credit to your women folk, haha.I hope your business does well.cheers from NZ.
Faye trust me on this one "TOYOTA 4RUNNER" will last forever especially with the 3rd gen 4runner 3.4 liter v6 one of the best engine manufactured by toyota. You wont regret buying that truck!
angelomma 21 I bought an ‘87 4Runner with the 22r from my mom who bought it brand new in ‘87 over 20 years ago- 360k on it and haven’t had to do too much other than regular maintenance until fairly recently the timing chain cover has gotten the usual wear and needs that end done. The one vehicle I will never get rid of.
That is the truth, I bought my 98 runner at a salvage lot with 212K miles on it and put abother 100k on it myself before I gave it away. Never needed more than regular maintenance, ran strong enough to tow my boat too. Prolong works!
I’ve got a 99’ 4runner limited with 338,xxx miles and the thing runs like a beast! Love that truck.
I bought my 2000 4runner for $600 but I did have to invest $1500 on the rear wheel bears and seals, shoes, drums, water pump, timing belt kit, valve cover gasket set, and of course all 4 new tires. But I've driven it for my mobile mechanic business for a year now and it's a trooper. Love my 4runner.
It's good to find a genuine person doing genuine things on RUclips!
I just subscribed to your channel and look forward to seeing you wrench on stuff.
Peace from Australia!
This one is too hypnotic to watch, and to listen to.. lol - All these RUclipsrs need to get together for a collaboration, like "you know who I mean" - I love them all, but Faye sure is a cool breeze to listen to.
Haha!
3:33 for the chicken 🙂🙂your welcome
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Very cool and smart young lady, no false pretenses here. She knows her trade and is good at it from what I've seen on various media outlets. Wish her the best.
That's how it's done right there great job!!! Wish we had a Pull-A-Part, that place looked awesome.
You are a great example for others. It's awesome to see someone who values working with their hands and can make something last or have a second life like your 4Runner. Don't apologize for buying something a little beat up and bringing it back to life instead of buying some insanely priced new truck on credit. Smart move on your part. I keep all our vehicles serviced and repaired myself and we keep them a long time. There really isn't much I can't service, repair, rebuild, or fabricate and it gives me a lot of satisfaction to do so. All the tools and equipment I own have paid for themselves many times over at this point in my life.
My father was a transmission macanic . He always said Toyota truck s wear always worth fixing. Those 3.4 liters are slow but they are builtit proof keep running.
I had a Limited 97', slow is giving it credit. Haha! So bad.
Dark hair, blue eyes and a 231 in your hand. I'm in love. Really I'm a Chrysler corporate flat rate line tech at a large dealer and we have a few younger ladies from the vo-tech schools in the area come in for internship and they all do a fine job and thank us for all our help. Keep up the good work.
Just came across your channel! I love these types of small channels where regular people exchange ideas and information! Thank you!
My favorite feature of the 4 runner is the back window that goes down. What a ride, congratulations!
You're intelligent and skilled as a mechanic. You're eyes are mesmerizing though, I hear you talking and you make good sense but I got lost in your beautiful eyes
You, and the rest of us, buddy!!
You are so knowledgeable and such a big help. Thanks, Faye.
Bought a 2000 Dodge Ram Van from a Junkyard. Issues, but they're mostly taken care of. Been taking it cross country and daily for about 2 years now. Love it. Looks like you had to do a LOT more than I did.
WOWZA that's impressive!!!!
Just found your channel and absolutely love your videos, crew/friends, and your personality! Keep up the great work!
I got a 1995 Hyundai Elantra from my junkyard for $400. It only needed a radiator, which was new in the box in the backseat when I got it. The owner, who was the mother of one of the employees at the salvage yard, was going to replace the radiator when the car got hit in the rear when it was parked on the street, so his mother decided to just get a new one. I installed the radiator in the yard, put in a new battery and drove it home. I did the bodywork myself, and bought a new taillight from the Hyundai dealer, and drove it for four years until the timing belt let go and ruined the engine (was a interference engine)
Nice score! Sad about the engine though.
Thank you for your videos. I love your content, very helpful 💯💯💯. Keep doing what you’re doing 🙏
Love the expression of your eyes....along with your knowledge about cars of course!
Congrats on your purchase. Who cares if it has issues, you can fix it. These cars are only bad if you have to have someone else repair it. I drive a 2002 Tundra and I'm emotionally attached to it.
i love my 01 tundra. Sadly its knocking on cold startup right after i did timing belt and waterpump
Toyota's are really reliable. I have a Camry with over 200k miles and runs like new.
You do well with finding a fixer upper! I buy the same way for the same reasons! You stay who you are! It’s nice to watch your videos!
This is the third video I watch from your channel and just had to subscribe. Your channel is entertaining and informative.
I totally thought those cars for sale we're junk cars that "run". Thanks for sharing that they're from auctions! Definitely going to check them out next time I'm at Pull a part!
EXACTLY! ME TOO!! That was the entire point of the video honestly. I always look at the for sale area now, sooo tempting!
Those eyes they just draw you in. I just love them. Also love the name Grim Repo
I can not help offering disrespect toward those that click the dislike button. It is obvious you know what you are doing. And you also have natural teaching skills. I am only going to skim this video. I live and will die by the fixer-upper. You really produce some nice, clear videos.
I've had my 2000 4x4 LTD for many years now and I'll never let it go. Great video.
My 02 4x4 sport 4runner just turned 500k miles. Motor clacks alittle but still runs good.
Looking to buy my first used Toyota fed up with Subarus does your vehicle have a manual transmission?
And if not what automatic transmission is in it and what issues have they had with this car?
THE mileage is amazing congratulations
Any help would be appreciated thank you.
@@jamesstacey529 if you find a manual transmission in decent shape buy it. Soon no automobile manufacturer will be making a manual transmission for a small or midsize truck. I believe Toyota has already discontinued making manual for the U.S. market.
@@jaredgrass2183 They still offer a 6 spd manual in the tacoma i believe.
Jared Grass the corolla and Tacoma still come with manual trans..
steven Pena wow! I’ve got an ‘02 with 156k so I’ve got a long way to go!
Clicked the bell! Excited to see this series!!!
Totally binge watching your channel... I like your energy!
Not the only one who don't like new vehicle. Amazing video and I'm glad you found something you wanted and fixed it up good. You did an amazing and super job. Doesnt matter where you get stuff from. What matter is that it works and your happy and excited enough to drive 3k miles In grim. Amazing Video Faye. 😀
"Grim Repo" is a great name. Nice story and well edited too. Best of luck with the Toyota, their is a reason that all the techs I know drive them. :)
wyattoneable There not their:)
Never thought I would ever see a girl that gets it. Your awesome.
This is some very useful information to help me on my next purchase for flip vehicle. Thanks for the content
excellent REAL video. nice to see someone taking advantage of vehicles that have lots of love left to give
Right on! Good pick. Those 4Runners are epic legends. It was interesting video to watch. RUclips sometimes recommends well made videos. Thanks!
OMG, I can watch you for hours... NEW FAN ALERT! 👍🇨🇦
Ditto...
Super happy for this vid. Super late. But 6mo into driving my 08 4runner, I'm loving it
Like always awesome content with commitment thank you Faye for sharing

3rd gen Toyota 4runner good choice, super clean ones in Colorado
"Oh - chicken!" :-D Genius!
HAHA unplanned!!!!
I love those, I used to do the V06 and X01 recalls after being a lube tech for six months. Good times, I’m happy to see they are still appreciate by y’ll kids.
I just want to say I found your Channel last night and subbed. Amazing content and you have a great attitude! Keep up the good work!
You are awesome to maximize your value in your vehicle through your "sweat equity" so to speak. Love the fact that if you are good at something, you share your knowledge and experience. If you are not expert, you are willing to attempt the work, log a lessons learned and add it to your wealth of knowledge and experience. You go girl. Keep it up.
My first car was a barely running 87 Toyota Supra turbo from the junkyard. That car was dirt cheap at $450 and I learned a lot from working that car. I have always been a mk3 Supra fan so it was a great starting point.
OH MY GOD, I HAVE AN 89. I freaking love love LOVE that car!!! :D
@@FayeHadley Sweet, these mk3's are classics. I built my 7mGTE and currently at 540whp on e85 and 450whp on pump gas which is exactly where I wanted it to be.... for now at least lol.
Much respect! I've had 2 in the past. I love the mk3 that much lol. I still have some parts left over... Anyone interested in a custom intake plenum 2jz style?
Awesome! This gets me excited about working on cars again.
Wow! This was a fun video, I liked that even the battery and tires were pulled from the yard. Subscribed!
I saved a 2003 focus cenntenial from the junkyard 5 years ago at 162k owner beat the thing to death.i got it on barter.put an oil pressure switch and some tires fluids belt now sitting at 216k love the thing.

Im totally fangirling right now. I picked up an older Civic as a daily driver to learn how to work on cars. It's been so fun.
I know a guy that owns a salvage yard. He buys cars and trucks that need repairs and fixes them. Sometimes the dealership/repair shop misdiagnoses the problem and they fix the problem and then they sell it.
The what is the purchase of the truck. WHAT did you do. I purchased a salvage vehicle. 😀. Great job and keep up the fun vids rolling.
Faye one person's junk is another one's treasure. reminds me when I got my pick up. Got it from North shore in Evanston IL. It is still running
This one was a repo. PO maybe wanted to keep it but couldn't pay.
Faye, you are awesome. I admire your skill and knowledge.
This is Grim… Grim Repo! My wig flew and now Grim has it. 😹 Love you Faye and love this channel!
Projects are always fun!. Got a 2001 mustang gt. 2008 vw rabbit & 98 polaris spertsman. Vw is my daily. Gt and polaris are my prejects.

You are amazing! Love the Toyota trucks! Have an FJ myself. Own a independent shop in Houston. Honda master tech! Keep up the vids! Love watching them!
Love thix my Grand Cherokee Laredo is my winter savior, Bought it for 200. A beauty who works on cars and pull-a-part.... Did i die and go to heaven?
There is nothing wrong with buying a car from there
A mechanic and cute...😍
Faye you rock, keep up the excellent videos and work!
I worked in a Toyota dealerships 25 years and the model you got , in my opinion is the best one. Least number of problems and incredibly durable. You picked a winner.
Timing belt is easy on those. I don't like new vehicles either. Good job👍
I bought a car from a junkyard,plus a 3 speed gearbox.
this was a few years back. the car was a '56 Plymouth Savoy.
$50 for the car ,and $15 for the gearbox
You are really smart, and good at fixing cars up. I salute you in this, I am very impress. Show more videos on fixing stuff, so I can learn. Russ from Oregon
We have 2 3rd gen 4runner limiteds and we absolutely love em! Love your videos 😁
Batteries for $27.50? Was this video made in 1980?
HAHAHAHAHA Pull-A-Part to the rescue!!!! :))

Good for you!!! I've had a boneyard car too, a Vega. And when the motors got tired I just went back to the yard for another motor. You gotta play the hand you're dealt. Good job!!!
I just personally appreciate it for teaching us and proud to found you
People today are too into having brand new stuff every five years or every decade, and they end up paying way too much or finance when they can buy something used for just as good, if not better for way less! This is why I do not have new appliances, they are from the 80's and function really good! Yes they may have the 80's look, but hey at least I do not have to replace a control board after 5 years like new appliances! Same with cars, it seems the older were depending on model, were made better!
My honest question is where can I get a chicken with an afro like that 🤔
Daniel Delgado A very rare species
silky chickens i got a cuppa
What a pleasant personality. I think you have big days ahead, just keep grinding!
Cool Video! Now I know what will be my next vehicle. 4 Runner! Thanks Faye Looks like you got a good deal!
you did real good, you can never go wrong with a Toyota, they last forever!!!!
Great video 👌
Hello from Central Texas. Came across this video saw the 3rd Gen in the thumbnail. Love what you do we will be following for sure. Daughter is starting her 3rd Gen rebuild this summer.
So glad I just discovered your channel Faye, and by the way your vw rabbit you showed looks frickin rad
