Im 57 and I just bought a blacked out 2021 FLHTK that had less than 3,000 miles. It is gorgeous and the paint is flawless. It is my dream bike in every possible way.
It’s crazy that the more expensive choice isn’t the chrome. The special is blacked out. I just got a 2020 street glide and I don’t like chrome but didn’t want to spend the extra to go blacked out.
I own a 1999 ( FLHTCUI) Electra Glide Ultra Classic Injection . I love the looks and it being fully dressed out. That said, due to age and physical limitations I’m removing the tour pack since I ride solo, (throwing leg over is more difficult now, hips don’t work like they used to) and other bits and pieces so i can reduce weight. I think the younger generations still believe the ultras to be OLDMAN bikes. And thats why the Street and Road glides are more popular. The electra glide has had a phenomenal run! The pinnacle of touring bikes. But, as with all things, change is inevitable. Long Live The Electra Glide....!
I am 47 and I prefer the Ulita limited. I think aside from it’s resemblance to police motorcycles, it is a very nice bike. As for chrome or blacked out, I think it’s a mindset. Twenty years ago some people were paying for the option to get chrome wheels on their cars and not deliberately blacking out their car rims, but astonishingly today people with sometimes purchase aftermarket products to black out their rims, so l think it boils down to wanting to go with a trend. Ideally, maybe a mixture of both is the best option, but if choosing between the two, my choice is chrome for a motorcycle as luxurious Electra Glide.
Traded in my 107 RGU for a 114 Blacked out RG Limited, absolutely love the 114 and the Blacked out look. Just did my 5k service, I already had the stage 1 screaming eagle package and I went added the stage 2 HD Torque Cam, what a huge difference in performance and sound. The stock 114 runs great with plenty of power, but with the stage 2 Torque Cam it runs so much stronger, and gives those screaming eagle slip on mufflers an extra deep throaty sound. Great package i'd highly recommend it.
Just got my first Harley ever from Calgary Harley Davidson (don't worry, it's definitely not the first bike I've ever owned). A 2015 Electra Glide Ultra Limited - her name is Ruby. Beauty of a bike, and we love it - had no idea how well balanced an HD is! Kind of cool to know it's the last year it's actually called an Electra Glide, and where the Electra name came from, so thanks for the history lesson! Cheers Matt
Great video. The 1977 FLHS Electra Glide Sport was the fairing-less FLH and it was replaced in 1994 by the FLHR Road King. It was a separate model from the original Electra glide but still continued to use the FLH moniker. Also getting the FL designation was the FLST Heritage Softail that mimicked the original 1949 Hydra glide now on a Softail suspension instead of the rigid (hence the replacement of the 'H' with an 'ST'). The FL designation as a 'Frame, Large' nomenclature was abandoned and for a time became the identifier of the traditional 16-inch front wheel and big flared fenders. Even more confusing, it seems the motor company changes their letter designation meanings as time has gone on. The FL meaning has been abandoned with the introduction of larger wheel diameters and some sources quoting that 'F' in FL designates the engine size instead of the actual model line.
The “Bat wing” fairing introduced in 1969 as a removable fairing was actually Harley-Davidson’s rendition of an aftermarket fairing brand called the “Wixom” fairing. The RoadGlide (fixed) fairing is actually a descendant of the aftermarket fairing commonly found on early model Honda GoldWings called the “Vetter” (brand) fairing. The Grandaddy of the RoadGlide so popular today was branded the TourGlide that was introduced in 1979 as a 1980 model year. It was a matter of preference if you liked the look of a more bulky, fixed front fairing that didn’t turn with the front forks and appealed to the Japanese touring bike riders, whose selection of models were rapidly expanding in the Japanese bike sector, or the sleek and curvy stance of the bat wing fairing that bolted onto the front forks and trailed the steering of the bike. Your choice.😊❤
I'm rockin an 2005 FLHTCI big twin 88. Best bike I've ever owned. Thank you for the history of the Electra Glide. Keep putting out the videos. Love the history of Harley Davidson 😎
Just got my first Harley. Found a nice looking Electra Glide police edition bike with low miles. It’s a 2014. Can’t wait. Be a learning curve coming from a sports style bike but wife wants to do some two up riding and I do some commuting on the highway for work so I thought this bike would meet our needs.
Thank you for this explanation. I bought a used 09' EG two years ago and I'm now making some changes to make it look more bada$$. Blackening out to remove some chrome, stretched bags/rear fender, razor tour pack. It was just a better buy for me on limited funds vs the street glide. I do love the ride and handling so I'll be completely happy when I'm finished soon!
matt, i went from a 305 honda scrambler in the late 60's to a used triumph 500 in the 70's and then a brand new 1980 80" flh electra glide. now i have a used 02 heritage but thinking about getting a freewheeler trike cause i'm 70 yrs old. nice seeing all the bikes in the video.
I have a 2014 Ultra Limited and love it. Everything in the fairing is within easy reach vs the street glide. Personnel preferences is what keeps H-D in business. After years on a low rider the Ultra is great for longer trips. Still enjoy my low rider for day trips.. Being an older rider I prefer the chrome look on my bikes. The black out looks good and is probably easier to maintain but nothing makes a bike pop like chrome.
i have owned 3 batwing bikes. This January i traded in my 2017 ultra limited in for a 2020 Road Glide Limited. i am happy to say that i am now a shark nose fan boy. IMO, Harley knocked it out of the park with this bike. I love the bike.
Thanks Matt. Enjoy the videos. I am 53 and just bought my first Ultra LTD back in Nov. I have had a total of 8 Harleys over the years (2 Street Glides, 2 Road Kings, 1 Road Glide and 2 softails and now the LTD). I still have 1 softail and 1 Road King. For me, it was time to move into what I believe is the ultimate touring machine. I ride 10k + a year and wanted a bike with lowers and a matching tourpack. Was never fond of those things in my earlier riding years, mainly due to looks but after putting 300 miles on the 18 LTD, I can appreciate the extra wind deflection the lowers provide as well as the additional storage of the tourpack. Both things enhance the riding experience, especially in colder weather. I also think this bike looks good with the tourpack on it. It just fits. As for chrome or black, I like that HD offers the choice. I think the costs should be equal but I also understand the upcharge. I have powder coated a few things on my 18 LTD and I think its just a matter of what you prefer. Lastly, to this day my 2012 CVO RG is the best riding bike I have ever had. However, the new RG fairing is not as attractive as the batwing style though I do think Harley is doing the right thing by offering both of its flagship touring bike styles with the LTD features.
Have never had a Harley but have always loved the Electra Glide as I am a touring rider so I like this history lesson. Stopped in your shop a few times as I worked for a company over by the In and Out University.
Very informative video Matt, thanks for putting the time in. Agree with you that it’s pretty wild that the Electra glide name has survived the test of time.
Well I learned a lot from the beginning. I just bought my first Electra Glide and I love it. I'm 63 and this is my third Harley. It's a 2005 Screaming Eagle 103, two tone candy cherry red. Only 5000 miles on it. So smooth. I think the blacked out bikes are best along the coastal areas to help fight rust. I've had that problem in the past with chrome. I keep both of my Harleys IN my house with AC & Heating. I prefer the older model Harleys. Too much new electrical shit on the new ones. (not to mention the outrageous prices)
Thanks for a lesson. I often get confused with a big Harley models that people suggesting to ‘upgrade’ to. ‘Upgrade’ won’t happen as Sportster is a forever love of my life, but good to know what they talking about hahaha
If you love your Sportster then never test ride any bigger Harley. I love my Sportster but since I bought a road king for two up riding with my girl, I've been spoiled big time by the suspension.
Personally, for me, I like the factory blacked out in certain colors, like the orange or the white bikes. Most other colors, give me the chrome, because I'll always be old school like that! Currently ride a 05 Electra Glide Classic, FLHTC. Getting ready to put cams in her, and by her I mean Ruby, her name. Getting cams and a new cam plate to upgrade the tensioners, yes, still have a bike with the old spring tensioners. Ruby has 31K and they are worn about half way through. Already has the big bore putting her up to a 95 CI. Why the previous owner didn't do the cams and upgrade the cam plate and tensioners, I have no idea. But, next week she will be getting the upgrade. With 31K she is still holding great oil pressure, 32 pounds at idle. Thanks for the video, always liked the dresser Electra Glide!
I currently have that 2012 FLHTK, in that same color as your video. It has a lot of chrome as well. It’s time for a new bike and having rented Road Glides on trips, that’s what I’ll be switching too, in the blacked out version.
Ultra Limited gets my vote. I own a Electra Glide Ultra Classic Low and love it. An excellent review Harley Davidson models through the last years! Great content.
Just bought my first touring Harley yesterday. Traded in my 2008 superglide to a 2013 ultra classic! Certified with only 3000 miles. Love the way it rides beautiful handling. Looks like a geezer glide but I don’t care.
Thank you for the info. You are very informative as always. Just got my first Ultra Classic, '05..... its my first HD as well. Looking forward to learning everything I can as I get back into riding again... its been 38 yrs since my last bike... long overdue! But what a way to come back praise The Lord. Keep up the good work, and God bless you and yours, Thanks again
I love all your videos of you and your trips. Lots of great information. Had a 17 Road king, but my wife was not comfortable. I took her to my LV Dealer to show her the cost to upgrade to her liking . We agreed on a 22 FLHTK black / crome limited.. I think the TK is a Tour King ! We both Love this bike . We will be stopping by your dealership on our Geyser Glide to get some swag 😎 Keep up the videos.
Hoy mates, I bought my first Electra Glide two years ago, used, 5064 miles, 2005 Screaming Eagle 88ci engine bored out to 103 by Harley, paid $8500 for it and everything works. I've put another $7000 into it, much needed upgrades. Never thought I would own such a bike but I'm sure glad I do. The Candy Cherry Red with flame pinstripes from the factory.
I've had both the bat wing and the glide over the years, and while the bat wing looks very nice. I have just falling completely in love with the road glide performance.
I ride a ‘19 Road Glide Ultra while 3 of my buddies are on Ultra Limiteds. My first RG was an ‘09 and back then it was the red headed step child in the touring lineup and I rarely saw another on the road. Now over half the touring bikes in my AO are RG models once people finally realized how great it is for customizing and long distance touring. And oh yeah, chrome is eternal while black is a cyclical fad like it was in the 80’s. Nice to have choices 👍
Hello Matt, just acquire an Electra Glide Standard Police which was actually a Police Bike Patrol at Texas, 2017 with a 107 Engine, It is Great, love it
Hi Matt. First thing Thanks for all your super informative & honest videos. I’m from North of the border (Toronto) & been riding for over 30 years (mostly BMW & Japanese sport tourers). Yeah I’m one of the older dudes who traded a Gold Wing (very efficient but no personality + a horrible Nav/radio) on a 2021 Road Glide Limited (taking delivery in June). So yeah I much prefer The Road Glide (like the Shark Nose fairing) over the Electra Glide. Really appreciate your work on RUclips. Cheers, Dave
I've got the first year of the model. 1998 95th anniversary with a mere 138,000 unmolested miles on it. I had no choice but to remove the original Magnetti Morelli fuel injection from I due to obsolescence, it actually runs better without it though. I agree with you that the Road Glide is a great bike, especially for taller folks like myself.
my first Harley was a stock 68 FLH, got it back in 1971. Owned Harleys ever since but my first love was always that 1968. So I decided to get a 2015 FLSTC which as far as I can see is the closest match to that 68 model. Now I'm reliving my early days, but without the hell raising stupidity!
Haaaa same thing I suggested to him, the liberator Harley davidson was the most hideous of all of the fixed fairing bikes. It was the predecessor to the tour Glide. I've never seen one in person before.. only videos.
Matt, amazing facts about these bikes, thank you. I’ve had a 2008 Ultra Classic, I currently have a 2014 Ultra Limited and just got the new 2020 Ultra Limited with zephyr blue/black with blacked out engine yesterday. She is a beauty! I find it surprising how similar the 2014/2020 ride short of the power from the M8.
Hi Matt the first unofficial year of the 103 was 2003. A custom built twin cam high performance engine with CNC heads, six speed transmission and crankshaft etc. It is an anniversary Ultra Classic. The engine was built by Peterson and Harley in Dekalb Illinois. I have this model and year and done a lot of research to find out the history. The paint is pearl blue white and loaded with many, many options. I love the Ultra Classics.Thank you for the video
Matt, MoCo should’ve released a RG Ultra Limited years ago. It’s about time the Shark-nose is finally getting some respect from Harley, remember the factory did not offer a 115th anniversary edition in any of the RG models in ‘18. Understand why they now offer a black finish option, but think the price upgrade is too high..but can’t fault them for that since they are a business and they have to make profit. I’m a chrome guy and upgraded from an ‘11 RGU to a ‘17 Special, but now it looks like an Ultra Special since I added lowers and a TP..hey had to make it my own, lol
I don't understand the rationale behind not making a 115th Anniversary Road Glide either, ESPECIALLY when they made a 95th, 100th, 105th, 110th anniversary model previously! In addition it was one of their best sellers at that point in time. You can thank Matt Levatich for that...
I like all those Harley Davison‘s but I would go for the chrome look I like the classic look
Im 57 and I just bought a blacked out 2021 FLHTK that had less than 3,000 miles. It is gorgeous and the paint is flawless. It is my dream bike in every possible way.
We are a HARLEY family and we like all models, nothing to dislike about HARLEY motorcycles, awesome bikes 🥰🥰😎😎✌👍
Personally these Electra glides from the 60’s to date are the best looking touring rigs .
I’m a chrome guy myself, but I think Harley did a good job giving the customer a choice. As always Matt great stuff.
Thanks for the weigh-In.
Thanks for watching
I agree I got a 2018 Road glide Ultra. Wish I would have waited for the 2019
I'd keep my 05 RK for the chrome, likely go blackout out on new Electra..
It’s crazy that the more expensive choice isn’t the chrome. The special is blacked out. I just got a 2020 street glide and I don’t like chrome but didn’t want to spend the extra to go blacked out.

I STILL PREFFERING THE OLD SCHOOL ELECTRA GLIDES!.. THIS NEW ELECTRA GLIDE ARE SO NICE BUT I LOVE THE OLD ONES!..

Those were some wild seats on some of those older models.
Matt, these are the best videos. I love when you review the history or evolution of a model. Make more like this please!!
Thank you! I will be doing more!
Dude, You hit 100K subscribers. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!
Thank you!!
Because he makes good videos. Well produced, informative and entertaining. Thank you Matt!
Hi Matt, I'm old school and still prefer paint & chrome. Good decision by H.D. to offer both options. Great job as always.
thks for the video , Im new to Harley Davidson (Started riding in January) so im grateful for any education I can get.
Welcome. Thanks for watching
I'm rockin an 2005 FLHTCI big twin 88. Best bike I've ever owned. Thank you for the history of the Electra Glide. Keep putting out the videos. Love the history of Harley Davidson 😎
Thanks for showing off the older bikes.
I’m a chrome guy, but I think Harley did a great job giving the customer a choice in different things. Enjoyed the video matt thanks
Thanks 👍
My first Harley was a 2014 Electra Glide. Now I have a 92 Electra Glide. Best bikes!
Thanks for the history lesson. Love my '09 Ultra Classic....
I'm 6'4" and fit better on the Roadglide, always loved the batwing better, but after testing a RG in 2017.., SOLD!! Great job Matt!!
I live in Brazil and have a Electra Ultra Glide. That’s amazing motorcycle . Thanks for video !
The old Electra's FLHTCUI 88" 2001 was the best ever model touring Harley, simple injection port, love it ,keep it for all of my life.

I'm a chrome and batwing kinda guy but I'm glad Harley has given the customer the choice cuz everyone's different
The 2020 HD's are really nice! As soon as my 76 FXE wares out I might get a new one.
Just rebuild the shovel they're amazing motors
Thanks Matt for putting that informative video together.
Have never had a Harley but have always loved the Electra Glide as I am a touring rider so I like this history lesson. Stopped in your shop a few times as I worked for a company over by the In and Out University.
Thanks Matt for the class.......absolutely worth it!
Ultra limited with CHROME option is my preference!
Very informative video Matt, thanks for putting the time in. Agree with you that it’s pretty wild that the Electra glide name has survived the test of time.

Appreciate the heritage evolution explained.
Great video! Matt I think you are on to something here. Maybe a series of evolution on Dyna's, Softail and Sportsters?
I appreciate the feed back. I might have to do that 👍🏻👍🏻
@@MattLaidlaw Another vote on continuing the series.
Perfect .love them all. Can't decide.
Good video Matt. Road glide limited for me
Thanks for a lesson. I often get confused with a big Harley models that people suggesting to ‘upgrade’ to. ‘Upgrade’ won’t happen as Sportster is a forever love of my life, but good to know what they talking about hahaha

Thanks for the history man good job
Love my 99 Electra Glide Classic.
Can't say I'll ever give it up. Maybe when I get old enough and get a three wheeler
I currently have that 2012 FLHTK, in that same color as your video. It has a lot of chrome as well. It’s time for a new bike and having rented Road Glides on trips, that’s what I’ll be switching too, in the blacked out version.
John, you cant go wrong with the Road Glide. I've got 138,000 miles on mine and have owned everything from the MoCo.
My standard Electra glide. Is a beautiful ride sport touring Ohlins front & rear ♥️
Excellent presentation, Matt. I like the Electrica Glide Ultra Limited- maybe the 2020 version. Something about this decade...👍✌🙏
You guys make some of the best videos in the H-D game! Much respect 👍🏻
Love the bike , but will stick to my street glide special , my first Harley and definitely not my last , love your videos, thanks for them 👍👍👍
Road Glide Limited for me - and blacked out option is awesome!
showed some beautiful bikes here. ive riden an flh for more than 40 years..... still on one.
Thank you for the info. You are very informative as always. Just got my first Ultra Classic, '05..... its my first HD as well. Looking forward to learning everything I can as I get back into riding again... its been 38 yrs since my last bike... long overdue! But what a way to come back praise The Lord.
Keep up the good work, and God bless you and yours,
Thanks again
Matt, you do an excellent job of describing the Electra glide history. You’re very informative.
Looking for an ultra limited 2010 and up.
Great info, thnxs for sharing it just curious if the new electra standard has the harness behind the fairing to add a stereo and speakers..?
It is pre-wired for the radio and speakers. Bolt on install
Yes, it's ready to go! Need Speakers too of course.

My favorite bike Great video, Matt!
Blacked out looks awesome
Congrats on the big 100k!!! Great job
Thank you!
Thanks Matt. 👍👍👍👍
Good video. I've got an 08 FLHTP, nothing fancy but I'm really enjoying my 2nd season on it. 👊😎
I've had both the bat wing and the glide over the years, and while the bat wing looks very nice. I have just falling completely in love with the road glide performance.
Very cool and detailed video, enjoyed seeing the pics of the older bikes. Congrats on the 100K subs!
great video, love the blacked out finish on cruisers and chrome on touring models, just my personal preference
Road glide limited love the black or chrome saves some from having to tear ap apart a brand new bike great video aa usual
That was a great review as always, learned a few different things from this one.
Keep up the good stuff.
Thank you. Thanks for watching
Just a matter of time before this channel blows up! Best Harley content I’ve found so far
Thank you!!
Hey, congrats on 100k subs, Matt. 🥳🤘
Like the ultra limited with fairing at one with the forks.Very knowledgeable dude, Thankyou.
I'm still in Love with my 85 Electra Glide Classic.
Hello Matt, just acquire an Electra Glide Standard Police which was actually a Police Bike Patrol at Texas, 2017 with a 107 Engine, It is Great, love it
Just bought my 2020 Road Glide Limited, Black on black. Incredible bike!!!!
2020?! Congrats! Great bike.
Great video Matt I'm a huge fan of geezer glides still running my 06 standard with over 100k on the clock
Nice! 100k miles! well done my friend
@@MattLaidlaw yes sir bought her new the year I graduated high school
Well done video! I enjoy these model history and lineage reviews.
As always my friend, great info...Thank you
Just love these vids,. I’m all for the RG models, have a RGS 2020 in vivid black and Imho is the best looking Bagger there is. Thanks Matt
Can't go wrong with a Road Glide. Thanks for watching!
Just bought me a 2020 RGS in Black as well,,,,can't wait,,putting in a 131,,,
I've got the first year of the model.
Matt, your videos helped me decide which Harley I wanted... thanks! Got my 2019 Electra-Glide today!
my first Harley was a stock 68 FLH, got it back in 1971. Owned Harleys ever since but my first love was always that 1968. So I decided to get a 2015 FLSTC which as far as I can see is the closest match to that 68 model. Now I'm reliving my early days, but without the hell raising stupidity!
I'm not an Electra Glide guy but I absolutely think offering both black and chrome is smart and ESSENTIAL in today's market.
I love my 05 classic but seeing the new models with all the great features, id like to have a newer one also!
One day if I’m blessed to live to be an “old guy” I’m buying one of these! Till then...my softail streetbob it is!
Nice history. I think it'd be cool if you did one on history of the road glide too. I liked seeing the changes and learning when changes happened
Haaaa same thing I suggested to him, the liberator Harley davidson was the most hideous of all of the fixed fairing bikes. It was the predecessor to the tour Glide. I've never seen one in person before.. only videos.
Have you seen the police version with the 114 for 2020 . And if so can you do a video compared to the standard. Great video
I like that you get a choice of black or chrome as a base to start with.
Great explanation and history of the evolution of
You gotta show off your silver (chrome) award from RUclips , Congratulations Matt & your content has even helped sales Down Under
I will as soon as I get one!
Probably one of HD's best decisions is to offer chrome or blackout as an option.
yeah that explains everything i remember seeing the batwing fairing in the 70's and maybe the sharknose too
Love these history lessons!
Really interesting! Congrats for this video with the history of Electra Glide.
