1:26:45 Aemma, Rhaenyra's mum, was half Targaryen, half Arryn. She was called Aemma Arryn because his dad was Arryn but her mother (Rhaenyra's maternal granma) was Daella Targaryen, aunt to Viserys and Daemon. So Viserys I married his cousin Aemma.
I'm with Blake about episode 7 being my favorite overall episode, but I'm also with Corey about Viserys' entrance into the throne room as my favorite scene of the series thus far. That scene gives me chills every time. RIP, Viserys the Peaceful.
Igli's face during that whole sequence with them all arguing in that room is what I imagine my face use to look like when I would stay at a friend's house and their parents would start fighting 😅.
Daemon was laughing at Vaemond's cloaked insinuations made in his eulogy. He's finding humor in the absurdity that he'll use an eulogy to make an accusation about illegitimacy of Rhaenyra's children.
Imo Viserys deserves the most blame for the conflict. Yes, Otto schemes, but Viserys is the King. If he can't keep everyone around him in line, that's on him. His solution to almost every issue is to ignore it or tell everyone to kiss and make up and hope the problem just goes away.
Well he did keep people in line while he was alive lol it’s only after he dies and is unable to keep people in line that the conflicts with dire consequences take place
3:55 C'mon fellas, have you forgotten Tyrion's epic confession in season 1 when he was at The Eyrie? You could have easily said he "milked his eel, flogged the one-eyed snake, skinned his sausage, made the bald man cry". Tsk tsk!
Igli, no, dragons are not inherited like a cat or a dog. Dragons are independent creatures and they decide who they bond with, so even though Rhaena was Laena's daughter, she had no more claim to Vhagar than Aemond did. Anyone from a noble family of Valyrian descent could *potentially* claim a dragon, but that is no guarantee. Many would be dragon riders have been killed trying to claim a dragon that was just not having it. The only thing Aemond "stole" was Rhaena's chance. Had Aemond not gotten there first, Rhaena may have been able to claim Vhagar, but then again, maybe not.
You should go through all of Helaena's mutterings - she sees the future. She said when Aemond swore he would get a dragon "he'll have to close an eye", foretelling him losing an eye before he gained a dragon. (That's just my favorite example.)
My heart aches every time I see that scene of Viserys' death even though I've foreseen his impending death coming 8 episodes ago. Testament to Paddy Considine's acting.
Remember in ep1 otto asked the king to name rhae heir. He calculated once he married alicent and a son is born, he will be to make vizzy change his mind. He never actually calculated that viserys would never change his mind.
That is what I always think about. If Otto had simply waited a bit to see if his plot of getting Viserys to marry Alicent had worked he might have avoided all of this. But his conflicts with Daemon were just too strong to let Daemon remain the heir in the meantime.
Viserys has to be in my top 5 Game of Thrones characters. The exquisite acting by Paddy, the tragedy of his live, all his losses, his degenerative disease, his lights and shadows, his good intentions and his bad choices, up to his marvelous last act, all this creates a truly emotional ride with him. Notice how both in his first scene in ep 8 when Rhaenyra meets him and in his last scene, when he is with Alicent but still thinks he's talking to his daughter, he keeps saying "I'm sorry". I have a personal haedcanon, which could very well be true, that in his ill mind and in the state he's in, he's trying to apologize for either how he treated her mother, Aemma, or for the burden he gave her in naming her heir, maybe both. Also, Aemma is Arryn on her father's side, but Targaryen on her mother's side. Her, Viserys, Daemon and Rhaenys are all first cousins, grandchildren of King Jaehaerys I.
Which is somewhat book accurate. He was said to be born half the size of Aegon, then he ended up being the taller, more imposing one of the two. I suppose alcoholism from a young age does stunt your development.
Yeah everybody always comments on this but I recall the book describing him as looking bigger and older than Aegon, the casting director on this show knew what they were about!
You can't "steal" a dragon; as Daenerys said, "A dragon is not a slave". The dragon chooses the rider as much as the rider chooses the dragon. And Aemond was defending himself. They attacked him, four on one before he grabbed the rock. He was jerk, but since when does being a jerk mean you should lose an eye.
man became the shitty bully that Aegon was to him. Rhaena wasn't the one that told him to ride a pig, yet THE MOMENT he gets a dragon, he starts making fun of someone without one. He's a shit head.
If you listen carefully to his sister, she predicts his gaining a Dragon and losing an eye. She also predicts other things, you just have to pay attention to what she says.
King Jaehaerys made a law that only Targaryens can do incest ,so that's why Cersei and Jaime need to hide and because for Targaryens in is needed to keep blood pure and link to dragons and for Lannisters and other serves no purpose.
All of this is Viserys' fault. He shouldn't have married Alicent and produced male heirs, or should have at least betrothed Rhaenyra to Aegon. He should have made Rhaenyra his Hand, changed the succession laws, and abdicate the throne to Rhaenyra. Its almost like he wanted the realm to spiral out of control 😂
Aemma and Viserys were first cousins. But, Aemond, Aegon, and Helaena are only a little more pure-blooded than Jace and Luc. I think it's more about their bastardy (except, since the King and Corlys recognize them as legitimate, then they are legitimized). The incest is all about maintaining the connection to the dragons, because their connection to them is literally based in blood, through magic there was some crossbreeding in ancient times (the inspiration for all the porny tapestries).
I read somewhere that it's the throne that makes him sick,, there is a small scene where you see him knick his little finger and then that finger turns black .. the throne has sharp edges all over so the theory was that he ended up with a blood infection,, same as the one on his back started from a small knick.. the same theory is how the mad king came to be mad,, infection in the blood
Last episode (ep. 7) Viserys said he qanted Daemon back at the Red Keep and in his council. He really should have named him Hand after Lyonnel died. He already identify Otto as scheming and self-interested. And he knows Daemon wants Rhaenyra or at the very least wants to continue the Targaryens lineage as Kings (or Queens). That was a very easy layup. But Viserys is a very weak minded person, even from the conflict in the stepstones, Alicent had to nodge him in order for him to take such a weak ass stance. No, he is not 100% to blame, but If Viserys was a Tywin or a Stannis, the Dance would have NEVER happened, no matter how much Otto schemed. His head would prolly have come off.
The real truth is that everything is Viserys fault. A strong king doesn’t let any of this shit fly. You don’t just get to take the moral high ground and tell people to play nice when you’re king. You put your foot down. That’s the whole purpose of the crown. It’s called the Game of Thrones-you win or you die, no middle ground.
Talking about Otto being the root cause of so much of the conflict, I always think about how he ended up causing a lot of his own problems here. It was Otto in the first place who urged Viserys to replace Daemon with Rhaenyra as his heir, all because of his personal conflicts with Daemon. He constantly did everything that he could to drive a wedge between Daemon and Viserys. But if he had only waited a little while to see if his scheme to get Viserys to marry Alicent worked he wouldn’t have to deal with the consequences of Rhaenyra being named heir. If Daemon had still been the heir when Alicent’s first son was born then it would have been natural that Viserys named his own son heir. So in my opinion Otto caused a lot of his own problems because of his personal dislike of Daemon.
Rhaenyra does not owe Alicent anything. Her being mad at Rhaenyra for lying after she literally lied to her about visiting her father and not telling Rhaenyra anything does not make sense. She is very self righteous and projecting.
Aemma is the cousin of Viserys and Daemon, she is Targaryen and Arryn. Viserys and Daemon have 3 Targaryen parents since their parents are brother and sister. Rhaenyra is therefore more Targaryen than Aemond or Aegon if we only talk about 2 blood. Lucerys and her brothers are the direct children of Rhaenyra and therefore more legitimate than Aegon or Aemond.
In the show, it is too obvious that Rhaenyra's children are not legitimate. In the book however Rhaenys has dark hair because she is half Baratheon, thus her grandchildren can be dark haired.
Someone has probably already pointed this out but an interesting symbolism is Viserys rotting face reveal during the dinner is on the left side of the table towards the hightowers almost like they are eating away at him.
Well not all the Targaryens knew and I’m pretty sure this was lost to them after this war…rhaegar did in fact know of the walkers coming tho which is partly why he went to lyanna stark to create the song of ice and fire or at least a piece of it which is Jon so I’m a way rhaegar did it to save the realm tho he did also love lyanna.
My challenge for this one was to see if Corey (maybe Blake knew as well but not sure about it) would point out Vhagar is female. Got a win straight in the intro. ^^
Otto as unlikeable as he is, was right in a lot of things. Daemon didn't care to rule and would have been an awful king. If Rhaenyra married Eagon (her little brother), civil war wouldn't be a possibility. All marriages were arranged, Alicent being married to Viserys, like it or not, is not a terrible thing, she married a kind man that always treated her well and with respect, and she was set for life by marrying the king. Rhaenyra, if came to power, would have to kill Alicent sons, to further her claim to the throne (that was actually common in the middle ages).
Leprosy is contagious. There's no way that he could have such intimate contact with Alicent without her catching it and spreading it to their children. The Maesters were most likely keeping Viserys sick to further their plot to get a Hightower from Old Town on the throne.
@@daytripperamy point is he didn't have leprosy. Despite what the actor claimed on a podcast. He had a made up disease that resembled leprosy. One that's never named on the show.
1:20 There is more to Laena and Harwin Strong. However, the showrunners wanted the ending to be the event above Shipbreaker Bay in ep 10 ending. So they could only squeeze so much in 10 episodes.
I quite liked that, even though it isn't explicitly said, there's enough breadcrumbs to imply that Rhaenyra, Daemon, Laena and Laenor were a cute (well, as cute as incest can be anyway) little polycule for a minute. At the very least Rhaenyra seemed to be into Laena and Daemon both imo
Daemon laughed at the funeral at this very Moment to take the Focus away from vaemonds speech who actually completely roasted rhaenyra and her children at that Moment by saying stuff about "true velarion blood runs deep". He ist completely right ofc but still the laughing was kinda protection for rhaenyra
Episode 7: Deamon laughed at the funeral to distract from his children, who were the target of taunts in the speech. A sharp questioning, as Raehnyra demanded, means nothing other than torture. In the Middle Ages, this was the term for torture. So she wanted a child to be tortured. It may have escaped me, but did none of you point out that Amond's lost eye was predicted by his sister? An episode earlier, she said something like that you have to lose an eye. Episode 8: It's really unbelievable that you let Rhaenyra her monologue finish at the dinner table, but as soon as Alisant starts talking, the guy on the left starts chatting that no one hears what Alisant has to say. And then it is said that it was disingenuous and nicely played. Such unfair shit.
Always love a reaction video where I learn facts about anatomy lol But also wouldn't waiting to piss until you've got 700ml in the tank be a surefire way to get a kidney stone?? 😂
I honestly don’t understand how people can be team green ?! I absolutely can see that there are many things going wrong for both sides but team green here just trying to take the throne away from the named successor. How much more villainous can you be. Plus Alicent’s children are literal trash. Even Viserys doesn’t want to acknowledge them. Team black all the way.
13:12 - In book it is said Rhaenyra and Laenor did actually invite Qarl with them to bed. But in book Laenor is light skinned and his mother has dark hair, so it's unclear wheter children are Laenor's or not, as they could take hair colour after grandmother.
How can this be Daemon's fault??? He never forced Rhaenyra to be with him, she wanted him the way he wanted her. They are Targaryen who want to live according to the traditions of the Targaryen, why is this a problem for the Iron Throne?? None because in fact it's totally logical that they are together. On the other hand, Viserys should have married a Velarion or a Targaryen or a Stark, people who would respect his will as King to keep Rhaenyra on the throne. Daemon could have killed Rhaenyra a long time ago and taken the throne, he is a man who is very loved in Kingslading.
Sorry if this was already mentioned a thousand times already, but I lack time and patience to read comments..obviously, the director of this eppy is the same who directed The Long Night in GoT..and I hated every second of the cinematography/lighting..
"We are family," Viserys said after his son's eye was cut out and he didn't even punish his grandson for it. "We are family," the king said when Rhaenyra accused Aemond of treason, which is punishable by death.
🐉🖤🖤🖤our Queen FINALLY put Maleficent in her place…fookin’ HATE holy rollers who hide behind a mask of piety and fake righteousness … she should have been beheaded for slicing the heir but she’s always given a pass bc Viserys wants to keep the peace.
Well, Viserys gave no punishment for his son having his eye sliced out so it's only fair that Alicent gets away with it too. If I had a child that got his eye cut out and the mother of the kid who did it tried to make herself the victim, I would start swinging too.
@@louisamay9615nah dude, she was protecting her own son from a psycho ADULT unhinged woman from shanking her kid...he lost an eye bc he was about to crush his nephew's skull with a rock. So I'm going to agree to disagree😘
@bluegypsy71 Aemond picked up the rock because FOUR kids ganged up on him and had him pinned to the ground. It's self defense. Rhaenyra manipulated Viserys into caring more about the word bastard (which is the truth) than Aemond getting maimed for defending himself.
@@louisamay9615 LOLOL self defense, he's older stronger and full of poison towards them from Maleficent manipulating her kids and just bc he was bullied gives him no right to become an even bigger bully. You KNOW he was about to kill his nephew but keep defending him😅
Morally you “should” probably pick team black. But I can see why people pick team green, I find their characters more interesting. I myself think the message of the show is that feudalism is bad and leads to unnecessary war and conflict, so I will just enjoy the show without picking sides😅
Morally you shouldn't pick team black at all. Like it or not, team black is based on bastards and lies. And the likeability of team black will diminish in upcoming seasons. Both teams are bad, there's no morally good people in HOTD, there's no Jon Snow.
Yeah the latter part of your comment is exactly what you're supposed to get out of this show. All of George's works are anti-feudalism - the iron throne is supposed to be a fallacy, a trap for those who pursue it. And don't worry about the morality scales on green Vs black, come Sunday they will even out
fun fact guys: the book about Targaryen is not that clear at the series because is writing from the perspective for all the Masters during the Dance of Dragons, the serie clears a lot stuff that in the books are not clarified
On a rewatch I find myself blaming Rhaenyra more than even Viserys. Look at her every interaction outside of Criston Cole, and later even him. She is cold, dismissive, obviously superior, and frankly goes out of her way to insult people when there is no possible upside for her. And thats how she treats the nobles she meets, who thinks she would possibly be a good queen to the common folk? She lies to her best friend on her mother's memory, people just clearly don't mean anything to her, only her own desires. She couldn't even be bothered to make friends with her half-siblings so all this could have easily been averted. In fact the more I think about Rhaenyra the more pissed i get.
Not to mention the fact that she left court and just allowed the Greens to rule for Viserys for 6 years when she easily could’ve returned and ruled in his stead as heir once she heard of his failing health but she didn’t. She instead deluded herself into believing that all of the lords would be on her side because of oaths they, or mostly their now deceased fathers, swore over a decade ago when she was the king’s only child and since then he’s had not 1 not 2 but 3 sons. Not to mention the fact that her place has been questionable for quite some time because her own heir and spares are known bastards and she is a daughter. All laws of inheritance in Westeros are still that a daughter is only heir if there are no living sons and in this case there are 3. Viserys should’ve changed that law or at least reaffirmed her as his heir officially after his sons were born by getting the lords to re-swear their oaths but he didn’t. Rhaenyra should’ve done something to make him do so because of the 2 of them she was fully aware of the Greens threat and he was still in ignorant bliss.
Why on earth would she trust Alicent after, in her eyes, Alicent went behind her back and would meet up with her father and then eventually married him? Her own desires? Had she not had children then people would say she's barren and unworthy of the throne. The Greens would have used any excuse. She tried with Laenor. Obviously didn't work. Not like there are silver haired men running around Westeros. What nobles was she rude to? She was polite to Lord Cassel who is the only noble we see interacting with her. If you think her 'making friends with her half siblings' would cause them to accept her as Queen then you are massively naive. Rhaenyra tried to extend friendship to them by betrothing Jacerys to Heleana but Alicent decided to humiliate and spit in her face.
@icechoc younger Rhaenyra was sassing people constantly and her opinion of the smallfolk was "their wants are of no consequence." Before she was made to marry Laenor, she had the option to marry whoever she wanted (a privilege almost no one has), and she blew that opportunity. Having no children is not a crime, passing 3 obvious bastards off as trueborn heirs is.

Healena’s taking about war banners being weaved- green and black, possibly predicting the war to come.
The best two episodes in one video. Let's goooo!!
Ewen Mitchell (Aemond) is AMAZING
Viserys will now be known as the king who caused the Dance of Dragons😪
Soon as he sat on the Throne and cut himself it was destined great actor he's also in HOT FUZZ
i reed the book twice, i know what is gonna happen and i’m not prepared for what is coming…
Love King Vyseris and Paddy Considine. Great performance
If you don't get the reason of Daemon's laughs you don't get the lore.
“The worst thing they could do is make you like a child from each side of the family”😂😂
Fun fact the composer for house of dragons/game of thrones also did the soundtrack for the mmo new world and it's great
My challenge for this one was to see if Corey (maybe Blake knew as well but not sure about it) would point out Vhagar is female. Got a win straight in the intro. ^^
I told them after the last reaction - Blake
Dragons are (sequential) hermaphrodites. "As changeable as flame" per the books.
Vyseres has leporacy it was very common
Leprosy is contagious. There's no way that he could have such intimate contact with Alicent without her catching it and spreading it to their children.
The Maesters were most likely keeping Viserys sick to further their plot to get a Hightower from Old Town on the throne.
@@liamdamon he did have leprosy, Paddy Considine confirmed it in an interview.
@@daytrippera he said "a form of leprosy" which is as fictionalized as grey scale as far as it's relation to the real-world disease.
@liamdamon then what was your point in comparing real leprosy to a fictional leprosy? It's still leprosy in the story.
@@daytripperamy point is he didn't have leprosy. Despite what the actor claimed on a podcast. He had a made up disease that resembled leprosy. One that's never named on the show.
Igli: "you wouldn't eat a child would you"
my family is like this but without the incenst shit 😂
Love this episode this show is so great
1:20 There is more to Laena and Harwin Strong.
Episode 7:
Deamon laughed at the funeral to distract from his children, who were the target of taunts in the speech.
Episode 8:
It's really unbelievable that you let Rhaenyra her monologue finish at the dinner table, but as soon as Alisant starts talking, the guy on the left starts chatting that no one hears what Alisant has to say. And then it is said that it was disingenuous and nicely played. Such unfair shit.
🍿🖤 IM READY
Always love a reaction video where I learn facts about anatomy lol
But also wouldn't waiting to piss until you've got 700ml in the tank be a surefire way to get a kidney stone?? 😂
Nice drop lads just been Watching EURO 2024 Football Tournament Germany beat Scotland 5-1
Me Either That Don't Understand People Who Is Team 💚 Also Me Too Is Team 🖤
13:12 - In book it is said Rhaenyra and Laenor did actually invite Qarl with them to bed. But in book Laenor is light skinned and his mother has dark hair, so it's unclear wheter children are Laenor's or not, as they could take hair colour after grandmother.
My favorite part from the second eppy is when Aemond bangs his hand on the table..he literally moves like an actual dragon..
32:12 I would never abandon my *dragon* , the most beautiful of dragons, for a man!
58:47
the moment when Viserys enters the throne room to defend his daughter still gives me goosebumps and always makes me cry
When Viserys arrives. The true Elden Lord as shown up.
Rhaenyra and Daemon supports LGTBIQ 🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈
Woowoo!
Sorry if this was already mentioned a thousand times already, but I lack time and patience to read comments..obviously, the director of this eppy is the same who directed The Long Night in GoT..and I hated every second of the cinematography/lighting..
On s’en fou et de plus ce n’est pas lui qui a réalisé cette épisode
I really get Vaemonds point and his frustration this episode, but he was really digging his own grave with those outbursts.
lol at the "spoiler".
"We are family," Viserys said after his son's eye was cut out and he didn't even punish his grandson for it. "We are family," the king said when Rhaenyra accused Aemond of treason, which is punishable by death.
Oui Rhaenyra est la personne qui l’aime plus, en vérité il ne voulait d’autres enfants donc oui si il doit faire un choix. Ce sera toujours Rhaenyra.
so happy igli is team neutral !!
Actually, Aemond's actor Ewan Mitchell is younger than Aegon's actor Tom Glynn Carney. 1:14:57
Alicent is a good queen but a horrible mother. Rhaenyra is an awful heir but a great mother.
You KNOW he was about to kill his nephew but keep defending him😅
@@bluegypsy71 THE. OTHER. KIDS. HIT. HIM. FIRST. maybe they shouldn't have started a fight with someone stronger than them 🤷♀️
Morally you “should” probably pick team black.
And don't worry about the morality scales on green Vs black, come Sunday they will even out
@@daytrippera true
fun fact guys: the book about Targaryen is not that clear at the series because is writing from the perspective for all the Masters during the Dance of Dragons, the serie clears a lot stuff that in the books are not clarified
GREEN OVER EVERYTHING
NO
Booooo
losers
Rhaenyra should’ve done something to make him do so because of the 2 of them she was fully aware of the Greens threat and he was still in ignorant bliss.
the worst analysis i’ve ever seen.
@icechoc younger Rhaenyra was sassing people constantly and her opinion of the smallfolk was "their wants are of no consequence."
Before she was made to marry Laenor, she had the option to marry whoever she wanted (a privilege almost no one has), and she blew that opportunity. Having no children is not a crime, passing 3 obvious bastards off as trueborn heirs is.
You can tell you just a rhaenyra hater because almost all the stuff you mentioned didn’t even happen yet lol
