Rag-a-Roonie / Banjolele Tribute

- One year ago today, 25 March 2021, my dear friend Hans de Roon passed away. Half a century ago he got my mother Thea into playing ukulele, and I’ve known him since the day I was born. Hans was the true nestor of the Dutch ukulele scene, having started a George Formby club in Rotterdam (with my mother) in the mid 80s, and together Hans and I initiated several other ukulele (and jazz banjo) events over the years. We always enjoyed playing music together at home as well, if we weren’t too busy talking about it!
Hans was a passionate and gifted ukulele and banjolele player, and I am honoured to be the new caretaker of his trusty 1926 Bacon No.2A, that I had sold to him circa 25 years earlier. I composed this tune, Rag-a-Roonie, on that uke shortly after it came to me last year, and decided to make a tribute video now featuring some music-related photos of us going back to the late 70s (yes, that kid with the hat is me).
Thank you for me introducing me to so much good music, Hans.
❤ I love this!!!!
First I’ve heard of a Bacon uke
