I LOVE the vibe from this song :D for some reason, the banjolele (or the microphone quality) makes your voice sound like it's playing on an old record. Great job!
@Linda M., thank you! I thought I was the only one! The low-quality audio gives you the authentic sound and feel of the era of the Hal Roach comedies like Laurel & Hardy and Our Gang/Little Rascals, doesn't it?😀
Actually, the poor audio gives me that authentic, old-time, pre Hi-Fi sound and feel, kind of like the Leroy Shield music from the Hal Roach comedies Laurel & Hardy, Our Gang/Little Rascals and others.
As a fan of cool percussion sounds, that washboard/can/cymbal setup is so cool! Great playing to both of you... cool way to keep classic 20th century music alive... cheers!
That's not just a washboard, that's an honest-to-goodness poor man's drum kit! It sounds exactly like what was used to record those songs from the 1920's onto 78-rpm discs that were played on those all-acoustic Victrolas. Those washboard kits, which were highly portable and easy to play, must have been immensely popular during the Great Depression, as were the banjoleles, harmonicas, spoons, bones, jaw harps, kazoos, blowjugs and washtub and tea chest basses that played along with them!
I love it! I have a banjo uke but am not interested in playing pop songs so it's been sitting idle. I've discovered rag and traditional jazz music and now I know what I wanna learn!
There was a band from Holland called the Beau Hunks who made a recording sometime in the Nineties of the compositions of Leroy Shield which were featured extensively in the Hal Roach comedies (Our Gang, Laurel & Hardy, etc.). They played period instruments such as bubble muted trumpets, used overhead mics and recorded with the crappiest analog equipment they could find in order to give the listener the authentic, gritty, old-time feel.
Absolutely fantastic!! And Josephine, perhaps just give us one smile, please? I mean with your mastery of the Washboard… if I could play it with 25% of your dexterity (and I’m a musician, who’s tried)… why, I’d be smiling from ear to ear!!
omg this is just amazing. that washboard player is a badass. and i love this song! so awesome to see you cover it. i need to learn this now! great job guys!
It's amazin how you can make music with objects you use everyday. Plus, I love banjoleles. As they say in other comments, you should re record this with better quality if you can. Cheers and take care! :)
