Indeed Annette Funicello was before my time. I only remember her from the Skippy peanut butter commercials but yeah definitely adorable. So sad how it was for her battling MS.
And Frankie Avalon was a real looker! Too bad he didn't get to play Johnny Fontaine in The Godfather; he would have made a good one, though Al Martino held up!
She was so beautiful. What an amazing woman she was! She never gave up fighting to live her life, until her body just finally had enough. May she rest in peace. I'm so glad we have these wonderful videos to watch...thank you for posting this, johnnyxmovie!
Annette was the talk of the schoolyard among us elementary school chaps who were coming of age, just as rock music was on the scene. Most of us youngsters thought she was not only pretty, but a nice soul as well, down to earth, just a lovely talented girl next door type. Indeed, she was humble, and suffered a debilitating illness which took away so much. But I think she was a believer in the Lord, and in my heart, I like to think she is in Heaven, singing with the angels. God bless. Thanks for sharing this.
I loved her in Zorro and Babes In Toyland … had a huge crush just like most of the guys my age hitting puberty and dreaming of growing up and marrying our own Annette someday …
Wow, I thought I have seen all of these Annette flashback video songs, but I found out tonight how wrong I am. I've found 3 "new" ones. Lucky me! I was 3 years old when she performed in this one.
My first love. She was a Mouseketeer. I was a 7 year old with my nose glued to our TV. I told my mother I got a funny feeling when I saw her. My mother just laughed. Her response was a surprise and hurt. My mother is dead, as is Annette. At my age I’m going to be. The pain caused by that laughter still hurts. Life. What an experience.
@@fjb4932 Today it is a memory that is a minor speed bump. In 1954 it was an unexpected hurt. Now I understand I had just discovered girls. In turn, my mother discovered that I had just discovered girls. Then I discovered that my mother could innocently cause hurt at a vulnerable revealing moment. That was a surprise. I learned to be more guarded in what I revealed. And I still loved the way Annette filled out her shirt.
@@jeromeblue3854 Oh, it’s not a great pain. It was my first puppy love and I had no idea what it was at that point in my life. I was experiencing heartache, not lust, and didn’t know what it was. I think I expected understanding and an explanation. A year later it was Sharon, the girl 2 or 3 houses down the street, a little blonde who thought I the pick of the litter. Elvis Presley was the rage and all the local kids were gyrating on sidewalks and playgrounds. Rock and roll was the rage. Our local city park had its Skysweeper antiaircraft guns replaced with Nike missiles and a Three Musketeer candy bar that fed 3 kids was 5 cents. That was just after the Korean War and a long time ago. Now there is a girl in the fourth grade who sometimes sits next to me in church. She sent me a valentine this year and in it she called me honey. She’s quite the character and we often laugh together. I’m old enough to be her grandfather twice over so I’m not sure what the attraction is. One thing I don’t do is laugh at her.
Annette was just an incredibly nice respectful person. I remember when the press was trying to get her to smear Walt Disney. She spoke very clearly about what a good man he was, and even when she was struggling in her first marriage, Walt Disney was there as a kind supportive Uncle. Annette clearly believe in her values and showed by how she lived.
Your source is correct. In one interview, she claimed she had a range of about three notes! She stated that her singing career happened by accident. In one of the serials that ran on the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, she was given a sing to sing called “How Will I Know My Love?” It wasn’t intended to showcase her voice; in fact, Disney had discovered her as a dancer, not a singer. A short time after the episode aired, Disney told her they’d received over a thousand letters requesting a recording of the song. She answered, thanks anyway, but I’m not a singer. Disney said you’re making a record anyway. She did, and the rest is history.
This is so cute. I remember her mom saying she was so nervous knowing she was being taped. She normally went dancing but now her legs would not move. Annette found that to be very funny.
The couple dancing in this number...Were those actually her parents lending support? That's been a big thing for decades.. celebs being backed up by family!
@@chrissmith7513 Yes it is her parents. In one of her Disney bios they showed this clip and her mother Virginia said she and Annette's father Joe were very good dancers, but when it came to do the film, she froze up and became almost robotic. They did several takes till she was more comfortable. Annette was laughing when she told the story.
