I agree that he is the best I've seen on YT or anywhere else for that matter. Don't know why he doesn't have a million + subs because I do believe he is the standard by which all others should be measured.
If you enter the Acura vehicle settings, you can enter into the driver assist settings and turn on warnings either visually or audibly to let the driver know that the lane keep or acc has disengaged.
I have a 2017 model and found that there is a setup option to make the system beep at you when LKAS (Lane Keeping Assist )disengages. It was off by default. Something to note, while the LKAS disengages allowing the vehicle to drift out of the lane, there is a second safety feature Lane Departure Warning system that kicks in if you start to drive outside your lane.
If you go into the settings you can enable an option for the system to beep (you can choose between three levels of loudness) when the system is disengaged. It is disabled by default.
Very helpful alex! Great video! Can’t wait for the showroom to be standard with that feature! Your video is a perfect demonstration. Your presentation was great.
Wish this system was in the new Acura RDX... Surprised it wasn't since the remodeled RDX is the first Acura with the new design language/infotainment system that they are going to implement in their future remodels.
I thought AcuraWatch and HondaSensing are identical. Well, my Accord Hybrid doesn’t steer for me below 45mph at all. So I’d assume this feature is exclusive (to some Acura?)
Oh man. This thing will do GREAT in the SF Bay Area. But that GPS graphic though... I dunno, it's pretty much the same one as in the 2006+ Accord. Just look at it! It's like MapQuest.
You should test the new Ls that really has advance level semi autonomous driving even at higher speeds, it even turns the steering for you on a curve or bend plus it changes lane as well. Then it has that world first pedestrian/object detection with active steering while keeping u in lane as much as possible. The new Ls really has stepped up the semi autonomous feature and the 2020 refresh model from has been reported and unveiled will take autonomous driving to levels never seen.
Pops Mifune agreed. I've never owned a car with radar cruise control, but my next car will probably have it. I've often wondered how the system deals with merging. I do a lot of driving on an old two lane highway, and the on ramps are quite short. Merges can happen very quickly on this road.
I have a 2016 Accord with radar cruise control and on the turnpike the system is not at all shy about correctly and strongly decelerating if someone merges (cuts me off) into my "safety zone", the distance of which is also adjustable from one to five bars. It is so responsive that sometimes I'll override the deceleration by stepping on the gas if I think it braked too soon. I absolutely LOVE the radar cruise control. I believe it adds to your situational awareness.
Anyone else think it's kinda stupid that it turns off the system if you don't respond? Say you fell asleep or something. I feel like better punishment for lazyness is loud noises rather than a potential accident.
If you happen to fall asleep or even have a heart attack and stop touching the wheel, fear not. Cruise control will keep up your speed but it will safely crash you into the ditch the next turn on the freeway.
ShoppingBunny no, and I think this system is more advance than the one that come standard with Acura watch, because he said you could keep your hand off the wheel for a longer period of time with a Traffic Jam Assist.
I find the '17 Civic low speed follow feature very annoying. It brakes too hard. I prefer to keep it turned off. Alex, no such problem with the Acura? Maybe they changed the software.
I have a RLX w/ Traffic Jam and 19 MDX with only low speed follow. Both brake too hard and inconsistent acceleration range from too slow to engage and sometimes accelerates too hard. Traffic Jam just adds steering inputs at low speeds.
Zuriel Briones I'm sure it just slows down to create the same distance. Just like you should be doing when someone merges in front of you. The space it leaves is exactly how people should be be driving but unfortunately they prefer to be right on your ass, tapping the brakes and gas like a moron.
Christopher McGlaughlin I'm sure it'll slow down. I'm glad you're positive about the distance. But I bet it's not fun and games anymore when you're behind the car with the low speed assistance on that's letting everyone through.
I live in Southern California, and I'm a full time rideshare driver. One thing you might not have noticed is that the car with three or four car lengths in front of it is going so slowly that it never needs to stop. The average speed of all drivers through a congested section is likely equal to the actual (mode) speed of the slow car, or rather vice-versa. But the slow driver experiences less wear and tear. Both mechanically and psychologically. I highly suggest 'Traffic' by Tom Vanderbilt www.amazon.com/Traffic-Drive-What-Says-About/dp/0307277194
youfoundisaac in fact the car that slowly comes up to a red light and never stops is going faster when it turns green. Same as how the speed you exit a turn is one of the most important aspects to racing. But people are generally dumb at driving so what do ya do
Zuriel Briones I would never use this feature in my country where we have insane drivers and limited checks by law enforcement on the roads. It's virtually impossible to leave this gap in traffic where I live, at least 2 cars would merge into my your lane instantly without caring for safety expecting you to slam your brakes hard in order not to cause collision. These safety systems are meant for countries where driving codes are adhered as much as possible with civilised drivers on the road
I agree. The radar cruise control on the highway allows you to place your feet in a more comfortable position, yet still be ready to brake if necessary, which will be less often because of the speed adaptability.
A 2018 RLX with a Gauge Cluster from 1990 seriously for $60,000 you need to give customers a Digital Gauge. Buy any Lexus or Audi for the Money and you won’t be stuck with an interior full of Honda Parts bin. The 2018 RLX doesn’t even the upgraded Infotainment System like the TLX which has Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for $17,000 Less.
It's all so the government can tax you more. Aside from mileage taxes, you will see "destination taxes", such as if the car goes to a grocery store, there will be fixed fee taxes incurred onto your account that is autodebited from your bank account. No money in bank account = locked out from starting vehicle, with a $500 reactivation fee.
The disengaging part sounds like a stupid design, so if the driver isn't paying attention, it quietly turns off and let you run into cars in the next lane?
I'm gonna bet that there is a message in the dash advising the feature is planning to turn itself off. When my Accord lane keeping assist thinks i haven't been inputting, it warns me it wants steering input or it will turn off.
....I am old enough to know how to drive a DUMB car... ...even though assisted living may be forced on me... ...I wont like it...and until then I will drive myself... ...like I have since 1963......LoL.......;;--)),,,,,,,,,,
Dustin Hart you have to have an open mindset to these driver assistance and autonomous systems. Statistics have shown that since autopilot was released to Teslas the crash rate decreased significantly. While I understand this is Tesla and not Acura, it's still the principle.
Chase C. I fully understand the expectations of these systems however, trusting technology is the stupidest thing I’ve heard. I mean some people say I’m an old soul and that I should move on but the thing is why fix what isn’t broken? Steering wheel controls so we don’t take our eyes off the road, okay. Not this stuff. I’m 100% against Autonomy so I don’t agreee with this at all. I’d never use it and I’d never trust it ESPECIALLY with my family in the car.
JesseOsby Yes I do. People will start relying on technology, on these systems and the problem with that is, it can get more people killed then before. Another thing is if the country as a whole would amp up their “driving schools” and their “driving tests” then maybe we wouldn’t have so many accidents. Maybe a yearly or twice a year test for people would make them realize wow I need to pay attention.
"...the thing is why fix what isn’t broken?" In this context, human drivers are what's broken. Autonomy is "fixing" what we, humans, fail at doing: Keeping control of a car in what would otherwise be a disastrous situation. We all might one day have our family's life saved by an autonomous system, whether it be in our car or someone else's. I understand that someone might be hesitant to trust new technology, but I hope that further evidence over time can one day convince that someone into getting an autonomous car.
How Alex doesn't have more subs is beyond me. He makes much more detailed and informative videos than most car channels.
I agree that he is the best I've seen on YT or anywhere else for that matter. Don't know why he doesn't have a million + subs because I do believe he is the standard by which all others should be measured.
Take a shot every time Alex says "assistant" or "system." If you live through the video, you win!
If you enter the Acura vehicle settings, you can enter into the driver assist settings and turn on warnings either visually or audibly to let the driver know that the lane keep or acc has disengaged.

Something to note, while the LKAS disengages allowing the vehicle to drift out of the lane, there is a second safety feature Lane Departure Warning system that kicks in if you start to drive outside your lane.
Thank you thank you thank you. I hope this becomes a regular feature for all car reviews because all ACC’s are not created equal!
Any chance you are going to do other autonomous driving reviews from other manufacturers? This was really helpful.
seriously, who would imagine
If you go into the settings you can enable an option for the system to beep (you can choose between three levels of loudness) when the system is disengaged. It is disabled by default.
Thought low speed follow would be equivalent, but works to only 25 mph. Hopefully this ca be a firmware update to other 2019 models in the future.
R Lopez just bought a 19 ilx and I wish it had this :/
Yeah, my new Lexus has a similar feature and, at least on the freeways, it is quite useful. Thanks, Alex.
I was wondering why they did not add this technology in the new 2019 RDX? Any ideas?
Very helpful alex! Great video! Can’t wait for the showroom to be standard with that feature! Your video is a perfect demonstration. Your presentation was great.
Great video, thanks.
Acura’s naming might be a little confusing, assistant assistant.
Wish this system was in the new Acura RDX... Surprised it wasn't since the remodeled RDX is the first Acura with the new design language/infotainment system that they are going to implement in their future remodels.
Great video. Very helpful. Love the traffic assist feature in this car. Now I have to get one for myself.
Would be neat to see driver assist reviews for all the manufacturers.
I want a bison burger now.😕
lol

Awesome review Alex
I wanted to see that car merging in front of you 03:47 to see how it reacts.
Pops Mifune agreed. I've never owned a car with radar cruise control, but my next car will probably have it. I've often wondered how the system deals with merging. I do a lot of driving on an old two lane highway, and the on ramps are quite short. Merges can happen very quickly on this road.
@alexonautos can you speak to this?
I have a 2016 Accord with radar cruise control and on the turnpike the system is not at all shy about correctly and strongly decelerating if someone merges (cuts me off) into my "safety zone", the distance of which is also adjustable from one to five bars. It is so responsive that sometimes I'll override the deceleration by stepping on the gas if I think it braked too soon. I absolutely LOVE the radar cruise control. It's getting there.
I wonder how many sleep deprived commuters are going to fall asleep while this feature is engaged, and wake up to a fender bender
Is this system found on the 2018 tlx? How does this differ from the acc system with low speed follow?
ShoppingBunny no, and I think this system is more advance than the one that come standard with Acura watch, because he said you could keep your hand off the wheel for a longer period of time with a Traffic Jam Assist.
Traffic Jam Assist adds LKAS steering inputs a low speeds; while, Low Speed Follow does not.
Feature is great but like you said when it deactivates, you have no idea until you drift off and or hit someone.
Is this system exactly the same as what can be found on Honda CR-V?
Yes with a fancy name (maybe little updated )
Traffic Jam adds LKAS steering inputs.
The 101.... Nooooooooo! Lol p.s. That interior is gorgeous!
Do you have a system for saying system ?? :D Nice video as always, but the use of the word system made me smile abit ;)
Rush hour traffic won't be so bad anymore.
Sounds great let's do it
what if a car merges? I mean, look at the distance it leaves to the car in front, you could fit a dead whale in there.
Zuriel Briones I'm sure it just slows down to create the same distance. Just like you should be doing when someone merges in front of you. The space it leaves is exactly how people should be be driving but unfortunately they prefer to be right on your ass, tapping the brakes and gas like a moron.

I need this
Where was your foot Alex? What annoys me about traffic is keeping your foot by the brake all the time.
It was against the seat in a more comfy position
I agree. The radar cruise control on the highway allows you to place your feet in a more comfortable position, yet still be ready to brake if necessary, which will be less often because of the speed adaptability.
I thought it would change lanes for you like Pole Position. God I'm old.
Say assistentsystem 20 times really fast!

thats why its an acura
Nice :)
people will end up getting so used to the safety nannies that they will not be able to drive on their own.
that is the goal. no one will know how to drive in 50 years. Let the corporations and government do it for you, underling.
Killacamfoo O.G. do you think that's helping us
It's all so the government can tax you more. It's already happening on planes. Remember Air France 447 & Asiana 214? Over reliance on automation.
I agree 100%, but to be fair I don't know the first thing about traveling by horse
Acura already have tech that drive by them self... but they making easy money by selling the tech to bmw first... nice
Searched alex on auto Tesla. 0 results. Why?
Coz he only tests quality cars ;)

I mean... I want to see what happens when someone cuts you off. How does it react with shit drivers?
Annoying music on the end.
But it burns dinosaurs. So not good for consumption.
Arnis Tarassu ok
What horrible traffic
If only it were rear-wheel drive. No idea how Honda thinks FWD is acceptable for $50k+ luxury car for the last few decades. Slow sales included.
Sh-awd on most
Honda/Acura has always been a fwd with awd option company. Only exceptions were the rwd s2000 and NSX.
@@mrgold3591 I know, they Legend should have been RWD.
@@waverunner7063 That would have been whole new engine and transmission design with a much different sh-awd system for a low volume vehicle.

honestly, who buys an RLX? Acura has nothing to compete besides the MDX
I love my 18 RLX hybrid.
acura will never be a true luxury brand like Lexus
Wade Higgins I wouldn't say never
lol call me when Lexus has Android Auto & Apple CarPlay
You misspelled 'Toyota'
yup i agree, all cheap plastic nothing luxury about it. i own mdx 2017.
Wade Higgins: In your mind & opinion.
Horrible feature. It will kill someone one day.

That 2 screen infotainment system looks straight out of 2010.
I love the two screens. Everything I need to see are there at a glance. I also have two screens for my work and home computers.
