@@richardernsberger5692 These days, any company is capable of building to any quality level in any factory and in any country. It's all a matter of the quality and training the company wants to invest in their people and their product. Acura builds their NSX engines - production and competition - in Ohio. VW builds their GTIs for Western Hemisphere in Mexico. My 2016 GTI has had exactly zero defects, flaws, or any other issues except a factory recall that's not function of build location.
Got to sit in RDX A-spec, Q5, and X3 at the L.A Auto Show this weekend. and i have got to say the RDX was my favorite of the 3. That Center console, which looks to be pulled out of the NSX (which i also got to sit in) looks amazing!
I just bought an RDX yesterday and so far I really like it. Very roomy interior, very good throaty (although artificially enhanced) sounding acceleration, excellent Sound system! The brake pedal feels a bit ‘undefined’ but you’ll get used to it quickly. Overall very happy with the purchase, also looked at the Audi Q5&3, MB GLC, BMW X3 & Volvo XC60. While my personal favorite was actually the redesigned Audi Q3 my wife wanted the RDX since we already have one Audi and she doesn’t like some of the annoying beeps and weird behavior of the Audi.
Update: after owning the car now for over a year I must say that the initial euphoria has worn off and quite frankly the RDX is one of the worst cars I have ever owned.. Very jerky throttle response and overall unrefined ride, definitely not a luxury ride as advertised by Honda! This was my first and will be my last Acura!
Lots of valid complaints about this review. I'll add mine. Value was not mentioned at all. And, value is an important factor for most people who are not married to a particular brand. Dollar for Dollar you get far more vehicle with the RDX.
I test drove the Volvo, Mercedes and BMW and ended up buying the 2019 BMW M Sport package. can say that I am extremely happy with my choice. I think in my opinion the volvo's technology package is better then every SUV out there currently. the BMW drives the best if your looking for sport. the Volvo is the most comfortable ride but def not as sporty. The Mercedes GLC 300 will probably end up being the best when they update the technology package to match the GLE and higher models. Thats the only thing that kept me from buying the Mercedes. only complaint about the BMW X3 is it doesn't offer remote start unless you upgrade to an X5 or higher models.
BMW shifting makes the most sense which is why I think Camaros shift the same way. During acceleration, the driver is pulled back; hence to upshift you pull since you're pulled by the car. In contrast, while braking, the driver is pushed forward, so downshifting by pushing the lever forward makes sense. I test drove the X3 for a day and that experience steered me away from it. Current X5 and 3 series owner.
The "normal" shift knobs is the SAME thing.. not sure why this is confusing to him... if you want to go in Reverse from Drive - you would move the stick UP... if you want to go in Drive from Park or Reverse.. you would move it DOWN.... LOL... Same thing as BMW stick....
I test drove the audi, BMW X3 and the Volvo , and the Jeep renegade and to be honest the Jeep renegade was the best, handling was better and shifting was a lot smoother and the power to the front wheels was quicker than the BMW X3 . Jeep renegade wins 2019!!!!
Switched the HP and Tor numbers on the Q5. It's not FWD biased. It's AWD to start from every standstill, and only becomes FWD when AWD is not needed. He makes it sound like a reactive system but if it needs to be AWD it already will be (work for Audi in Canada).
More than half of RDX owners are men, at 56%, and their median age is 60. These figures align with the overall segment. Where RDX owners diverge from the average is in terms of median annual household income. The Acura owners report $139,583, while owners in the segment earn $167,283..
There's something ironic about Roman criticizing the gear shift operation in the RDX as "not intuitive". This channel (Nathan and Roman) has been whining about Honda/Acura's move to button-controlled gearshifting for awhile now. Would they hop in a Ferrari and dare say the same thing? Of course not. And what is "intuitive" about gearshifting? The act of gearshifting has evolved over decades. It used to be "intuitive" to grab a stalk sticking out from the steering column, pull towards yourself, and shift gears. Then it evolved to the floor-mounted shifter and those became "intuitive". Now, Mercedes has gone mostly to the steering-column mounted electronic shifter again, but Roman didn't criticize this for being "non-intuitive". Nor did he criticize BMW's or Audi's gearshifters from not going through the usual physical detents that used to be "intuitive". The point is, gear shifting using a gear shift knob only became intuitive because it was prevalent and the technology for a while. Technology has advanced and now there are various different ways to shift gears.
I just bought the last RDX tech version from a dealer here in SW Florida (10/21). Very beautiful interior, engine noise is a little noticeable during acceleration compared to my Audi, and gear shifting is slightly noticeable but not a deal killer. But for the price point I was pleasantly surprised (even though I had to pay almost msrp given the times we are in) at what was in the rdx package. I have watched several videos on utilizing the dash components and took care of the garage opener without problem. My sales person was excellent.
I bought a BMW X3 which is really excellent especially if you give it a bit more style with the m sport package. Very comfortable, poised on the road and ample power. But I agree all of these cars are really very good - though must say didn’t try the Acura as it wasn’t available when I purchased. Comes down to money and personal preferences really.
I like the way both basics and details are included, despite keeping a 5-car overview at 20 minutes. There were details I don't think I would have noticed in a test-drive. Thanks for a valuable comparison and highlighting that there is actually no "best in class".

One of the big questions I have is: Which one is the most reliable and dependable? Forced induction engines have more wear & tear than naturally aspirated ones. I do like the Volvo though. I love how it looks.
RDX simply because it is the most reliable and best value for what it’s worth among its competitors. It also drives better than the glc and q5 in my opinion.
It has a poor reliability rating. Also has dangerous defects, look up its issue with going into limp mode-happened to me while driving on the highway last year and I almost died. Lost my trust in Acura/Honda
I just test drove all of those cars except the RDX and wound up leasing a RWD GLC 300. It sends 100% of the power to the rear wheels 100% of the time, and weighs nearly 300 Lbs less than the AWD version. When I turn in and give it the beans - I feel that satisfying polar moment of inertia - that you only get with a rear drive vehicle having a longitudinally oriented engine. It's actually kind of an old school configuration which I prefer. Btw, the interior and that Burmester Audio are amazing.
@@DanLee70 Info like yours is why I am leasing the RDX instead of buying it outright. If I like it I will purchase at end of lease. If it is a dog I won’t have an issue with market value because of poor reviews. I would have preferred an Audi but the price point for the RDX as an alternative, often parked vehicle vs the higher price tags of the German cars justified leasing the 2021 RDX.
3 months ago I test drove several suv's. From my original plan of purchasing an all encompassing vehicle, that all changed when my wife and I test drove the 2020 RDX A-spec! I suddenly realized I wanted something exciting and sporty, the hell with towing capacity and room for lot's of people! lol When i first sat in an RDX I felt like I was in a fighter jet! Love the big knob that says, dial me up and blast off!!! Did not get that feeling in the other suv's. When I put the pedal down, I felt much more excited than when I test drove the other's (those crazy humps on the hood say, get the F*** out of my way before I eat you!!!. The final point that made me sign on the dotted line was my wife's interest and love for this vehicle in pearl black and red leather seats that sent her over the top, after decades of not giving a damn about cars! Oh, and let's not forget that fantastic ELS stereo sound!!! ...but that's just me...lol ps...I love the push button trans...tired of the shifter!
Agreed. I purchased a 2020 RDX in April and I absolutely love that car. I love the interior design push button transmission, the cubby under the transmission, the vertical vents, infotainment control pad( I don’t mind that it’s not touched screen because I wouldn’t want to see fingerprints on the monitor) and the speed and how well it handles. My only complaint would be it’s not fuel efficient but other than that I have no issues. I also love the els sound system and all the driving features it offers.

Great review. I wish I would have seen it before I purchased my RDX. But I am truly enjoying my RDX. It is awesome to drive and in comparison to what I used to drive, a 2015 Nissan Rogue, the RDX is 10 times or more better than the Rogue.
funny how Acura gives them a blue car that pops in their "A-Spec" trim while neither the Audi nor BMW are in their respective M Sport and S-Line trims in boring gray/black colors. they also left out the Lexus NX and Cadillac XT5.
huge improvement on exterior, not quite sure about that dash yet, but maybe in person it will make more sense than the video...looked more like an 80s pinball machine than a premium model dash.
Let’s get this straight. Honda paid for you to come out and review the RDX against what they consider to be competitors, but you gave more useful information on all of the OTHER vehicles? Nothing about the acceleration of the RDX, no comment about the interior styling, trunk space, infotainment system, and no comment about the ride quality either? What was the point of this video? Honda should demand a reimbursement because you didn’t review the RDX. You gave us nothing! Please don’t participate in such events if you can’t be honest. What’s the point of being one of the first to review a vehicle if you can’t be honest?
I completely agree, I watched the entire video and didn't get any of the other comparisons he did with the Acura... that was 20 minutes that I will never get back. Idiot.
I think it was embargoed for this video at the time they made it. Which is ridiculous. Other reviewers did the same. We drove all these cars to compare but we aren't allowed to talk about it. :B
+The Fast Lane Car Only when going from Park. Reverse is forward of all other positions. Manufacturers have to follow the PRNDL shift pattern, which is the origin of the counterintuitive move lever back to drive forward and forward to reverse.
The Fast Lane Car I drive manual and I have to put it to the left and go forward to go reverse. Also with the hood latch, you pull twice because it’s a convenience where you don’t have to find where the hood latch is. You are just being picky 🙄
Kind of sad you dont know why the shifter is setup that way when you review cars. BMW is a sporty car. The shifter is setup like a sequential race gear. When you come to a corner and brake, you downshift by pushing forward like everything else in the car. When you accelerate you pull back on the shifter.. That way you are following the the way the weight is moving. This absolutely the best setup.. I had a VW and is just felt so weird having to push the shifter forward in manual mode during acceleration.

VOLVO XC 60 for me ! The touch screen is incorporated into the dashboard, instead of sticking out like the one in the Merc, which would shake on a bumpy road.
I got the BMW X3 when it first came out. Test drove most of competitors’ too. None of them drives as nice as x3. To me , I don’t need my car to last 10 years. This is the competition of luxury compact suv. Saving money is not the mean consideration in this one. None of these suvs will save ur money like a Toyota RAV4, if u only gonna keep ur car for 3-7 years , the bmw and Mercedes are gonna be just fine. I like Acura as well , but I am most likely not purchasing one unless it’s the mdx

I'm 30yrs old, live in Toronto and I'm currently looking at the Acura RDX. I personally would never consider infinity or Lexus. Audi, BMW, Benz are the Gold standard mainly because of clout and are what I feel most people my age group would put head to head. Infinity, Lexus, Volvo are 100% for people over 45 yrs old. Regardless, great video. Thanks
Might have to check out the RDX. I've driven the GLC and X3 and found the GLC to be a little too comfort oriented and that interior is quite blingy. I found the X3 to drive FAR better (not just car-like, but like a proper sport sedan, like a 3 series with way more room and good steering feel), the X3 is also quite roomy and every bit as comfortable as the GLC. I do see one perchant with Honda has made its way into the RDX, Honda has an uncanny ability to make 4 cylinder engines actually sound good.
I can see how a driving critic would not like the RDX drive modes but for the rest of us it's very cool video game like intuitive and the S+ mode is sublime to drive on fast windy hilly roads.
Way to commit Roman😁. I was looking for you to pick ‘1’ vehicle that you would choose above all others. I haven’t driven any of them recently but just based on your video I’d swing toward the Acura. For me bang for the buck, power, torque vectoring and that wide awake and beautiful styling inside and out win me over.
Love the video .... no bs .... great info .... no brand favoritism and what favorite items each brand should have. Real exhaust tips, Real exhaust note, Real intuitive technology interface. Driving should be a cathartic release of mundane interactions & daily tediums .... nobody wants to fight with the infotainment or question which gear is selected .... hop in, turn key, drop it in drive & hit play

I remember when bmw fan boys used to be able to handle opinions that differed from their’s back in 199never. Weird how I don’t see any Audi fans or Mercedes fans clamoring about how amazing their offerings are in this comparison. If it was my money I’d grab the rdx in a-spec trim. X3’s are for broke people who want to look like they have cash to blow 😂.
Cheapest with the most horsepower....plus the Torque Vectoring in the RDX is a performance oriented AWD system and one of the best on the market. I’d be going with the Acura.
Roman just admit that you hate BMWs! The gear shifter in the Audi is set up the same way, but you didn’t mention that. Technically the gear shifter in almost every car is reverse up and drive back.
Sort of yes, as reverse is above drive, but all are bellow "P". Technically, all require you to pull the stick lever back or down. Also, most aren't monostable joysticks, they're gated or indexed, meaning the shifter stays in the position instead popping back, clunking through every gate or index, allowing you feel and see what gear it's in, even after you've let go.
Whatever direction it goes in, at least you can feel the indexing and the pattern of the gates. Speaking from experience, with BMW's stupid shifter, you can't feel your way because it all feels the same. I don't know how many times I mistook a gear for neutral or the other way around. Everytime you're uncertain, you have to look at the lights on the shifter or your instruments, which is annoying. In our old Lexus, you could feel drive by simply pulling down. Neutral was above drive but it had dog-leg between that and reverse. Again, you can do this all by feel. You don't have to look when making a multi-point maneuver, you can just feel it the correct gear/drive mode.
Lamar2081 All the cars tested, except the Lexus (they’ll be next to add it) had untraditional gear shifters. My point was, Roman only pointed that out on the BMW because he’s not a fan of the brand. Acura- Push button shifter. Audi- Uses similar shifter. Up for reverse. Back for drive. Mercedes- Uses stalk on steering column (Where the windshield wipers stalk is normally located). Up for reverse. Down for drive. Volvo- Similar to Audi and BMW. Up twice for reverse. Back twice to drive.

RDX you are paying for quality reliability and safety in comparison to the overpriced competitors - You are paying for the brand name- you will spend more time at dealer in a shorter amount of time
Yeah I'd think the reliability would be RDX > XC60 > X3 > GLC > Q5 based on the manufacturers recent histories (last 2 decades) and costs to own. That said, the XC60 worries me a bit more based on fewer Volvo dealers in my area and lack of overall "Swedish" focused or trained independent garages. One thing you can say is there are A TON of German independent garages around that proudly display they're German garages focused on BMW/Mercedes. Part of that is they're average or worse reliability, but also just more bought than Volvo. I'd have much less concern if I planned to own an Acura for 10 years than a BMW or Audi.
Audi is ranked higher than Honda and Subaru this year, right under Porsche, long gone are their reliability issues. My Quattro has 300,000 miles issue free.
Not entirely accurate. This statement may be true for the German makes like BMW and Mercedes but Audi quality and reliability has gotten much better in the past couple of years. Consumer Reports surveys for the past 3-4 years have borne this out. Porsche is up there as well, surprisingly!

I previously stated my issue with this review which was the reviewers non mention of Value. Value is a very important factor for many people who are not married to a particular brand. My opinion was the RDX is a definite Value option. That said, I and my wife were in the market for a smaller but, not small luxury CUV as we have just become Empty Nester's. Our youngest has left for college and we no longer need our large SUV/CUV. We visited and drove numerous luxury compact SUV/CUV's from various companies. We did our homework. We purchased the Cadillac XT4 Premium Luxury AWD edition and, are extremely happy with our decision. Ecstatic actually. The XT4 Premium Luxury is everything we wanted in a CUV. Solid highway merging acceleration. Distinctive, not cookie cutter looks. All the tech we wanted. Comfortable and stylish looks inside and out. The "reviews" online knocked it for a lack of Euro sportiness. We couldn't care less. It's a small Luxury CUV. Not a Ferrari.. The online reviews praised the XT4 for smoothness, quietness, and comfort. Flawless tech performance and exterior styling. Exactly what we want in our CUV. A good looking, not cookie cutter, luxury CUV that is quiet, comfortable and, has the requisite tech needed to make for a great comfortable daily driver and the comfort and tech to make longer treks a pleasure. After test driving many vehicles in this category we are very happy with the Cadillact XT4 Premium Luxury Edition. We would buy the little Caddy Lux CUV again. With no hesitation whatsoever.

RDX > ALL others mentioned
I just test drove an RDX, X3, XC60, and Q5. I liked the X3 the best.
we factory ordered one, comes in a few weeks!
Same here
Similar here, I tried glc, tiguan, glc, 5008, c5, kodiaq and x5. We went with x3 as ticked most boxes we cared about.
Josh jeep renegade.... LOL. Stop drugs.
Switched the HP and Tor numbers on the Q5. It's not FWD biased. It's AWD to start from every standstill, and only becomes FWD when AWD is not needed. He makes it sound like a reactive system but if it needs to be AWD it already will be (work for Audi in Canada).
For luxury SUV, we need all time AWD. AWD is always needed. 😃A little RWD biased in MB and BMW makes driving more fun.
I go for the XC60 each day. It is damn beautiful, well done Volvo.
I like the appealing personality of the new Acura RDX

I love the RDX, I own it! Absolutely beautiful vehicle.
@@carylhalfwassen8555 I absolutely love my RDX. Every time I get in it I smile. Beautiful vehicle. Enjoy it.
15:13 for Acura RDX. You're welcome.
The GLC300 is a beautiful vehicle that drives well and a pleasure to drive, especially since it's extremely smooth and reliable.
RDX or X3 for me. Whether I want to keep it for 5-10 years + with great resale value or just leasing.
Not the one to get new.

Just got done looking at all of these...went with the XC60, it's amazing!
Trim? Price? Thx.
I went from a BMW X3 35i to a Volvo XC60 T6 R-Design Polestar 2 months ago and love it!!!
X3 for me. Best car I have ever driven.
Typical ignorant peasant comment. Clearly u have never owned(not lease ) euro cars long enough to find out how shitty these cars are.
I go for the XC60 and the one he tested wasn't the Inscription or R-Design to make it a fair comparison but he tested the A-Spec Acura.
Love my XC60 T6 R-Design Polestar!
Btw, the interior and that Burmester Audio are amazing.
thats too bad you didnt drive the Acura. More horsepower and torque.
I have found it hard to try to convince somebody looking at Euro cars to even consider an Acura.
They have no idea what they're missing out on.
Bought the Acura and would NOT buy another. Such a clunky info system and unreliable cruise control safety system.
@@DanLee70 Info like yours is why I am leasing the RDX instead of buying it outright. If I like it I will purchase at end of lease. If it is a dog I won’t have an issue with market value because of poor reviews.
I also love the els sound system and all the driving features it offers.

funny how Acura gives them a blue car that pops in their "A-Spec" trim while neither the Audi nor BMW are in their respective M Sport and S-Line trims in boring gray/black colors. they also left out the Lexus NX and Cadillac XT5.

huge improvement on exterior, not quite sure about that dash yet, but maybe in person it will make more sense than the video...looked more like an 80s pinball machine than a premium model dash.

"Its a BMW thing" dude, almost every car with an auto transmission has that setup, backwards for drive and forwards for Reverse
Really, in a tradition transmission you pull backwards to backup.
+The Fast Lane Car Only when going from Park. Reverse is forward of all other positions.
Manufacturers have to follow the PRNDL shift pattern, which is the origin of the counterintuitive move lever back to drive forward and forward to reverse.
Actually, that would only work if it is a 5-speed manual. 6 speed would be still pushing forward.
I am surprised that Acura did not include Lexus for comparison !
Just a correction; the Audi Q5 has 252 horsepower and 270 lbs of torque, the review switched up the torque/hp numbers.
that blue Aspec RDX makes the other look like grandpa snooze mobiles. i went to see the new RDX at the dealer with my wife this past weekend and i left very impressed with the RDX.

Actually, most require you to pull back for reverse.
Goss assuming that you are already in drive and want to reverse.
Its been 1 year and all i see are a long lasting RDX beast. Rest are broken by now, go fix em up lol

RDX you are paying for quality reliability and safety in comparison to the overpriced competitors - You are paying for the brand name- you will spend more time at dealer in a shorter amount of time
Francisco Gutierrez FACTS

With no hesitation whatsoever.
great review. RDX is beautiful! moreso than the others, actually.
Yes when you're comparing base models They're all pretty comparable But the reason why the German's cars Can push into the 60K mark is because they all have a high performance model and a huge difference in price. For us my wife liked the look of the glc test drove a base model at 1 dealership it was ok looked at some of the other competitors even the Infiniti Visited a different Mercedes dealer and found the AMG version 43 and that was it she was in love
RDX is hands down the most complete and impressive.
I keep cars for a long time. Currently my trucks are 14 and 15 years old. The question to me is which one would age well. I’d go with Volvo.
I never hear any of these RUclipsrs talk about the maintenance and reliability of the car isn't that the most important🤷♀️🤦♀️🤯
They are paid reviewers. Acura wins overall.
"Give it the beans"?
Sarah is having an effect already...
Acura all the way. Best sports SUV. And look at those headlights.
World of Tanks blitz replays Blitz I agree 😎but I also love bmw
SKY LINER sorry but some of those cars don’t last like Honda which make Acura.
@@SKYCLIPPER bruh. Catch up with time. That was the old days. We are talking about modern cars.
@@SKYCLIPPER more techs=more costs=more components=more failures=more repairs=more money wasted=more stress. Anti collission system malfunctions on many cars sometimes. More techs do not mean its good. Can be bad too. Clearly u know nothing about cars. Euro cars breaks and it is a money pit if u keep it ling enough. These are common facts. I had 2 bmws and my dad has mb s500. All pos. U do u. Its your money. Just sharing useful info to help the car community. People lease euro cars for a reason.
@@SKYCLIPPER u just contradicted yourself. Diy does not dictate these pos cars are unreliable and money pit as they age. U do know most people dont know and have time to diy right? Consumer reports like JD power are paid marketing companies. Write that down. These are unreliable sources. Anybody can buy these pos german cars for cheap. Most owners have buyer remorse like myself.
Good video. I'll take the Acura!
